A sad day for Clarksville Christian Church.  Our minister, Steve Fair, had a heart attack night before last.  He had the angioplasty, had a stent put in and is doing quite well.  He may get to come home Sunday but isn't to do very much for four weeks.  I am sure his lifestyle will change with more exercise, a different diet and all.  So I guess it turned out to be a great day after all for Steve.

While he was in ER, one other member was in the room beside of Steve getting a stent put in also.  Both are only 55 years old.

Then a lady member that is in her 80's fell on the ice.  She is in the same hospital as Steve with a possible broken hip.  No one has heard about her other than she fell.

So I guess me staying upright yesterday on the ice was a very good thing.  Maybe I should have tried ice skating years ago...hmmmm!

Today is 60 Chix.  It is cold but no wind.  That is a great thing.

Etta Sue More young people are winding up wioth heart problems.  I do believe it is a society related thing, more sedentary and higher "bad" in diets.  Our parents put more veggies on the table and less meat and sweets.  that seems to have changed with moere meat less veggies and more desserts.  It has and will continue to take its toll.  I hear kids say "I don't like veggies, I'm not eating them!"  Unfortunately the parents go along with this.  This sets the kids up for problems in their future.  I watch Heather tell her 2 that they have to try everything on the table, even if it is just a teaspoonful.  They are getting a taste for different foods and are starting to enjoy them.

I am off my soap box

Gotta run

I am not sure what the weather is like at the moment.  Have been in too much pain to venture far from a chair or bed the past few days.  Not a good thing as due to go to the Sarah Brightman concert on Sat. and to visit for three days at my friends home up island on Tues.
So if anyone can spare a prayer for the pain to end, will be most grateful.

Read all the posts and love the graphics....surely does make Christmas special.  Finally read my email and this little blurb might interest someone:

December 12 — The Full Cold Moon
Sky watchers will be dazzled by an exceptionally high, bright, and large Moon. In fact, this Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons this year. Why? The Moon is both in its full phase and at a point in its orbit that is nearest Earth, called its perigee. When these events occur together, the Moon is closer to Earth than usual. The effect? The Full Cold Moon will appear especially large near the horizon as the Sun sets.

The Moon is also high at this time of year; when it's overhead (near midnight), it will light up the landscape. Take a magical stroll and see your world at night. You won't need a flashlight

I am going to look outside tomorrow night and see if it is true!
Going for a shower now and will try to have something like a normal day....cards to address and notes to write.

Marilyn, that is a cute baby.   :)

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Thanks everyone for the comments on my new Great grandson. It looks like he has the red hair of his father and grandmother.

I am here in Oregon, doing  few household chores this morning and checking myemil and the sites that I usually visit online.

Liz I am sorry to hear of your pain.  I am praying.

Thank you for the info on the moon.  Good opportunity for our photographers to take some pictures.  We likely will be overcast as that is all we have had lately.

Janet

Thanks, Liz!  I saw that moon this morning as I drove to work before dawn.  It was huge, and beautiful!  I will be praying for your pain relief.

Darrel is waiting for me, we are going to go to the fairgrounds to eat chicken and noodles with the Mennonite ladies.  They are also having a bazaar.  Since he's in the mood to go, I'd best not keep him waiting!

Hi Everyone...

Just not that long in from Winchester, VA where we've been since Monday with no internet!

We're leaving for Guelph in the morning or at least as soon as we can leave.  We're both very tired.

I haven't read all the posts in here yet but I saw the photos of the dear little baby, Marilyn.  Lovely

More from Guelph.

(Gord, who are you shouting at?  :)  All the capitals are what we consider shouting on the internet! )  ;)  Luvya

I hope that we can see that full moon tonight - we will have cloud cover today and then another  Artic Storm will pass through probably will go right to Janet and then Etta Sue  :-\

I will be packing today to stay with granddaughter for 4 nights and Don will come for two of those nights. If I take our laptop, I can get on CP but if I don't bring it then it is impossible for me to get in here.

Janet:  You are an early bird this morning.  I was up before six and did the treadmill in the basement where we get few channels on t.v.  How silly the local early news is -

Etta Sue:  When I was 28 years young, we moved to St. Paul, MN and I taught myself to ice skate.  A favorite story is the young girl next door ran in to tell her mother to come and watch "the old lady on the rink trying to skate".  We laughed for years over it.  Wobble Wobble.  Everyone is the family skates - even play hockey.

Liz:  Sorry to hear that you are in pain - may it pass quickly.  Have you heard of an area called Naimo? Spelled wrong, I am sure.  We are going there next summer.

I have been cutting fabric for a King-sized quilt top.  That is ready to assemble and I took in a dress for g-daughter as she is in a school event tonight, and yesterday sewed a new tree skirt (my old crocheted tree skirt bit the dust when we moved).  Gifts are way more simple and less expensive for all this year - I think Don and I bought new tires for us or at least we should consider them as our gifts.  There is a box in my closet labeled "Small Projects" and it needs my serious attention - all of these sewing ideas and patterns waiting forever.  If only regular housework and cooking didn't take so long.

Gord:  It was nice hearing from you!

Pat:  Take care - it sounds like a lot of work.

Pat

Thanks Carol....

Yes, we're unpacking the "builder's truck" and changing it into a drivable van and then packing it and after a little trip to Trader Joe's to pick up a few things, we'll be headed north.

Silent Night, Holy Night
(Click to hear music)

There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby,
keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord
appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them.
Luke 2:8-9

Stanzas 1 & 3 translated from German to English by John F. Young, 1863;

Music: Franz X. Gruber, circa 1820

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and Child.
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight;
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love?s pure light;
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Silent night, holy night
Wondrous star, lend thy light;
With the angels let us sing,
Alleluia to our King;
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!

Good morning!

Carol, have fun staying with that granddaughter.  I am feeling sort of bad because my Abby is in "that age" where she really doesn't have the time or desire to spend time with Grandma.  I hope it passes quickly; I miss her and our good times together.  Same thing is happening with my youth friends, who are the same age as Abby.  :-\

Gord, good to see you again!

I need to go to Hugoton today to pick up a jersey someone wants me to frame before Christmas.  Nothing like a little lead time!  :o  But I will try........

Pat and Paul, have a safe trip to Guelph, and please don't drive when you are too tired.

God bless you all today.

Truthfully, I have never had on a pair of ice skates.  And roller skates?  My sister had a pair and I skated around in our kitchen.  No sidewalks out in the country in my day!  All gravel roads and driveways!

I am late getting online today.  I finished printing my Christmas Cards for church members and made a Get Well card for Pastor Steve.  And a Christmas Card for my Secret Sister.  I have been to the mailbox already twice today!  Also took some Spaghetti Slaw to Ivalou.  A new recipe I tried.  Delicious!

Tonight Ivalou and I are going out to eat with Tony and Charlene.  He sent me a picture this morning of a baby eagle that was where he works.  He works for Irving Material Incorporated...IMI...and runs a loader at a stone quarry.  You can tell it is a bird...he said he was 150' away!   :whisper:

Then tomorrow at 1:30pm we are to be at the church and about 13 of us are going to Purdue University to see their Christmas program.  Love these trips in the church bus!

That's it!

Would love to see that picture Etta Sue!

Etta Sue

Judy you can barely see the bird and it is a very small photo.  He took it with his cell phone.

I also posted the recipe for the Spaghetti Slaw in the Recipe section under Salads.

Larry, you should get a reminder for the Recipe Index.

Carol - Liz can tell you all about Nanaimo, but I'll just mention that it is north of Voctoria just a little way, and it's where the ferry boats come in from over on the mainland.

Marilyn

Good Morning everyone, I am still here in Oregon and it is sure cold, I have been out back gathering kindling and bringing in a few pieces of wood for the fireplace before the rain starts. They cat is going   . we bought him some Purina cat chow for inside cats and boy does he love it. When he was down at my house he  want to eat the dogs Purina for seniors. This morning I gave him some of the chow and a little of his canned food and he went straight for the chow. But I sure do miss my dogs. I did a little mending of Keith's pants pockets and the cat helped me.

I baked a French Vanilla cake this morning and I am not going to eat any cake this trip. I don;t want to keep on gaining eight.

Hi, friends, I'm here but really don't have a lot to say. It's been snowy since last night. That snow was wet, so after it was on the ground, the temps dropped and it got a crust of ice. There's a hill at the first intersection from the house, and we saw some vehicles that had wrecked trying to go up the hill.

I'm SO thankful for a warm environment - yes, it's topsy turvy from packing to move, but still warm.

Larry, I'm also very thankful you provided us with knowledge of Pandora internet radio. I really enjoy listening to the hymns set up for me.

Y'all have a great rest of the day!
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

JudyB

Well it is sunny right now.  It was snowing this morning.  That makes snow every day for the past 2 weeks or longer.  Monday we are to have rain and freezing rain!  UG  that can make things tough.

We are having a luncheon on thursday evening at work..  I am trying to make the room we are going to eat in more festive.  I am feeling like it is a lost cause.  Well Candles will spruce it up some and with the lights out it will be better.

Must go

Liz

We are having terrible rain and a extreme warning that snow is going to dump all over the island.  So the much awaited Sarah Brightman concert may not be possible.  The Malahat is terrible in a snowstorm and not possible to risk going.  Amanda would be driving as SIL has to work.  So many $$$ will be wasted unless a small miracle happens.

If it gets too bad, may not even be able to get to the train on Tues.  Snow on the island causes so many more problems than it does on the prairies.  Looks like the Grinch is trying to steal our Christmas.

Carol, Nanaimo is about a one hr. drive from Mill Bay.  I go thro' Nanaimo to get to my friends in Parksville.  It is an interesting city and I used to go there to walk the sea wall, when living in Chemainus.  Please come see me if you have time.  Would love for you to see this part of the island and Victoria is (ahem) even nicer than Nanaimo.  You go right past Mill Bay when driving from Nanaimo to Victoria.  Right Al :)

Pain is still bad, but not making me so ill today.  Went to the store with Wendy to get stuff before the snow arrives.  I have severe Arthritis, Osteoporosis and Fibromyalgia and when they all do their thing at the same time..... :'(  The pain makes me very ill and the headaches are terrible.  Guess it is good that people can't usually tell, unless I can't walk.  Have lost a lot of friends over having to cancel stuff....hope that doesn't happen this time.  Thanks for your prayers.  What would we do without prayer!

I had best get off the computer now.  Love the Christmas graphics and music.  Loved Santa's sock.....

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz
CHANGE NOT THY FAITH WITH CHANGING TIMES

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.  It appears I forgot to post here yesterday or even read postings.  Don't think I have a reason, guess I just forgot.

This has been a very full day.  After coffee this morning I stopped at Walmart and then Barnes & Noble to find Golden books for our great grandchildren.  Then went on to the Senior Center for our SeniorNet Computer volunteer's monthly meeting and we had a lovely party provided to the volunteers with live music.  We had a great catered meal.  I was able to bring a meal home to Pat, which she is eating at the moment for her dinner.  She had another commitment so wasn't able to attend today.

After the meeting I went to Kohl's to return a little shirt that we got for the 3 year old as we ended up with two of the exact same shirt.  I found something different to go with the trousers.  I came home and rested a little bit and then wrapped up all of the presents for the great grandchildren.  If our son and DIL get here tomorrow they will take the gifts back with them to Augusta and we won't have to mail them and that will be a pleasant change from most years.

Etta Sue, I got the notice of the new recipe and will update the directory.  It has been quite awhile since there was any new recipes.

I have read all of the postings but will not respond to individual ones this evening.  I am tired.

Jane Walker

Well, Larry I have read all the posts and even posted a reply this morning .... and it has disappeared!   :o  I know I seldom comment but, at least when I finally do, looks like it'd stick, doncha think?   :idiot:

I was replying to Carol and Al re: Nanaimo ... I have been there.  It was in 1985, to be sure, but we took a ferry/car trip all the way up the BC coast, crossing fjords and stopping all along the way at little inns and cafes, then crossed over to Vancouver Is from Powell River and toured on down the island to Victoria.  Stayed there a couple nights and then took the last of the steam ferrys to Seattle.  From there we went on to stay a couple days at Mt Raineer and continued on to our home in Sacramento.

The reason for this trip was for me to "connect with my roots" which my husband thought was a necessity!   ???  I was born at Friday Harbor on San Juan Is.  My mother always commented that she could see the lights of Vancouver island from our home. It was a memorable trip, but one I doubt seriously I will ever repeat.

Janet

Hi, Kids!  Just checking in....Pat and I went to Hugoton, then on to Liberal this afternoon and I just got home.

I will be away all day tomorrow at my painting meeting---IF the weather permits.

Etta Sue, those Christmas graphics are so cute!  Thanks again for them.

Wish I could travel more easily.  Can't right now with these legs and all, but y'all have me wanting to travel up to Puget Sound area and Victoria.  We love San Juan.  Went to a park there and there were wild rabbits wandering around the lawn!  From Nanaimo, past Mill Bay, you can get to Butchart Gardens, which is more than worth while to see.  Late spring is a wonderful time to visit up there.

Nita

Hi, all.  I got my computer back today. :) :)  I was going to wait until after Christmas, but my daughter decided that the repair would be a good Christmas present.  I had to agree. lol

I've just been through soooo much email.  It made my brain tired.  I've been trying to reinstall programs this evening.

Could someone give me the link to Pat's other site for Sn refuges?

Jane, I'll see you sometime tomorrow if we don't get blown over or snowed in. :)

Hi, Marilyn.  What will happen if you get stuck in Oregon? We're supposed to have some snow by Sunday I hear.

Blessings to all of you.  It's nice to be able to pop back in here. Nita

Hi everyone.  It is chilly here today and it was cold in McDonald's this morning.

I have to leave in a very few minutes to go to our dress rehearsal choir practice with the orchestra.  I am really looking forward to this as remember the last time we had an orchestra to accompany us.  It is a special occasion.

Our son called last evening to confirm they plan on coming over this morning and should be here shortly after lunch.  We are going to go to Long Horn's steak house for lunch after they arrive.  I am looking forward to the afternoon.

Jane, I wonder what happened to your posting?  Sorry that it disappeared.

Nita, glad you got your computer back.

Time to leave.

Etta Sue

Dinner with Tony, Charlene and Ivalou was great last evening.  T and C took us to Muncie...about 45 minutes away.  I don't even remember the name of the Mexican restaurant but it was something O something.  Sounded like an Irish pub name!  But it was delicious.

When we got back Charlene wanted a couple of recipes and I gave her a bite of Spaghetti Slaw.  So she wanted that recipe also.  And Ivalou says I have to bring Spaghetti Slaw to her Christmas dinner.  So ya'all need to take a look at the recipe that is in the recipe section.  Larry has it in the Index for Recipes!

Today Ivalou, Jane and I are going with others from church to Purdue University to their Christmas Show.  Everyone I have talked to has said it is a fabulous show!

Charlene told me that her and Kevin, her son, are going to Indy tomorrow evening to see 'Lion King'.  Now I am wishing I could go.  I went online and there are still tickets available for tomorrow!  I may call Kitty and see if she would like to go!

Kind of gloomy today but suppose to get above freezing.  That's good!

Carol

Spending a nice morning at daughter's home and we have things to do before the latest artic storm hits here - brrrrr coming.  They leave on a plane tomorrow morning immediately after a hockey game for Minnesota which will be another brrrr.  Yes, Sunday morning - it is terrible that too many of the Lord's Day hours are being taken over by sports.  I had a wonderful chance to talk to my grandson about the will of God in his life.  These moments are few and precious and it is a balancing act to not overdo these conversations but to let them know our feelings.

Hi to Liz, Jane & Al & thanks for the info on Nanaimo.  I am trying to remember how to spell it by going in my head with Nan ---aim ---o.  It should be beautiful.  Liz - I will check it out as we get closer to the dates.- I so pine for the Pacific Northwest & hope to get to my HS party.  A sad note that a fellow graduate lost his wife at Thanksgiving and he hasn't told me yet.

Here, I brought two books and some knitting.  We have an errand to run.  This house is really active & very organized (our daughter's touch).  Loved the great show last night & they actually sang "Merry Christmas" and "This little light of mine" plus an Israel folk song.

Etta Sue:  Am going to check out that slaw recipe.

Janet

Etta Sue, was that Carlos O'Kelley's?  I like eating in those.

We didn't get the predicted really hard winds, in fact it has been nice today, a little windy, but not bad.  I was up and out early, drove about 80 miles to my painting meeting.  We painted snowmen on wooden shovels, cute.  Had a gift exchange, ate lots of good food, elected officers, adjourned and went to a craft show which was almost over.  The hostess made Gumbo, and it was wonderful!  The recipe will be in our next newsletter.  My friend Winona met me at a feedlot 27 miles East of here and rode with me; so much nicer than going alone.

I am really sleepy, so think I will take a little nap, because we are going to the movie Fireproof tonight.

Larry, hope you have had a good visit with your son.  Wish I could hear your Christmas Cantata!

Carol, it is wonderful that you have those moments with the grandkids.  They will always remember Grandma's advice.  (Anyway, we hope they will!)

Hi, Nita--glad your computer is home and behaving itself again.  ;)
