Morning Devotional...

John 4:32,34 Jesus said, "I have bread that you don't know about: to do the will of the One who sent me."

The bakers in Germany are magical. In my opinion they're the best in the world. Dark bread, light bread, oat bread, bread with all kinds of seeds, they are simply the best.

When some people read the words from Jesus about 'another bread', they don't think of good German bread. They think of tasteless, dry, stale bread. When Jesus spoke of that bread, he wasn't trying to be super-spiritual. He was challenging his disciples with a truth about life: there is a bread that is nutritious and fulfilling, of a different substance and texture than the kind found in a normal bakery.

In his book, To End All Wars, Ernest Gordon wrote that as a prisoner of war in Burma, he experienced first hand that 'bread alone' could not keep the suffering, downtrodden prisoners alive. Once they began to live according to the ways of Christ, to care about one's neighbor and to make their 'living hell' a little better each day, a fortifying substance entered the camp. Through acts of compassion they rediscovered the goodness of life. In giving they found the bread that Jesus spoke of. Real life for every human is more than having enough food or enough money. There is bread for the spirit and soul that is beyond what even the best German baker can create.

When Jesus spoke of this bread, he had just encouraged a woman from Samaria - a woman who had been living in survival mode. As he gave her water for her soul and food for her life, Jesus also ate of the amazing, fulfilling, sweet bread of the Father's will.

We know of this bread. We've eaten it, yet we often forget how nutritious and tasty it is. To treat others as you want to be treated, to love those who, in large and small ways, are part of your life, and to be outrageous givers of mercy: this is the will of God - that other bread. Don't turn your doing and giving into a dry, tasteless duty. Cut off a big slice of God's bread this week. Taste and remember that the ways of the Lord are simply delicious.

I got back home at 4:15 after a ½ hour delay  where they are  redoing the road  north of Crescent City. There was fog sort of laying on the ocean  all the way down the coast. You couldn't even see the ocean, just the  fog, like a cloud laying there.

Keith tells me there is a light rain going on right now in your area Nita and I really like your new picture.

Judy and Pat I send my condolences also at the times of your grief, I don't want to call it a loss after what Judy said, for you know whence he has gone

HI everyone.  I am awaiting time to leave for coffee at McDonald's, have had breakfast and done some kitchen choirs such as make the morning coffee and empty the dish washer.  I am meeting a group of men at 1 pm for lunch and today we are going to Baby Jane's, an inexpensive but pretty good buffet.  I like it because I can make a big salad and watch carefully what I am eating.  We select a different place each week.  Our group is growing and now we can have as many as 7 men joining us, although know one man said he was playing golf.  However, we are suppose to have 1-2 inches of rain from Faye today and more tomorrow so it is not likely he will be playing golf today.

The lady who cleans our house is going to be here today as this is her day off this week from her other job.  With our daughter here and all the extra things she requires for her treatments the housekeeper is going to have her hands full.

Marilyn, glad to see you are safely home.

Janet, thanks for the weekly devotional.  It is a good one.  Janet, the next time you are searching don't forget there is usually a "find" or "search" function  associated with your e-mail program.  You can put in some of  the key words and it will usually identify all the emails you have.

Ruth Ann, sounds like you had a most enjoyable day out with friends after attending church.  I am sure that was a treat.  We also enjoyed our luncheon out after church yesterday as we hadn't been able to go for 2 or 3 weeks because of the attention we have had to give to our daughter.

Etta Sue, do you know that you probably can turn off the touch pad on your laptop and use a mouse.  I have a little lap table that has enough room for a mousepad and I use a USB mouse as have never liked the touchpad function.  On my computer you can turn this off for a booting session or on a permanent basis, which I have done.  I didn't realize this on my Tosiba laptop and put one of those fake credit cards we sometimes get in the mail over the touch pad and held it down with a couple of strips of Magic Tape.  When I took it in to have it cleaned the tech showed me how to turn off the function.  I guess I didn't read your prior message closely enough as thought the picnic was at your place.  Glad you were able to attend.

Hi Al and Judy.

Pat and Judy:  Sorry for your personal loss of your brother, Murray and I send prayers for his family.  You will miss him dearly but you know where he resides and is at peace.

Janet:  Those babies do get heavy.  That is why we have children when we are young.  Did you read that a 61 yr old woman gave birth?  When that child is a teenager, how is she going to keep in charge?????  LOL

Etta Sue:  Thank you - I really am interested in your description of your new Toshiba.  Amazing.  Have fun.  I know you will.

Today, we are taking turns walking as we are expecting someone this morning.  Have to shut off the computer most of the day and since we use Vonage, that will shut off and the phone will ring on the cell phone.  All this newfangled technology? ;D - I don't even know what happens but I do know that I had better pay attention to keeping the cell phone on and with me.  #2 & #3 sons will be over tonight to move a heavy piece of furniture into the house and install a light/fan over where our bed will be - we like the slow-moving fan in summertime and these people didn't even have a light in the room for overhead.  I washed all the blinds yesterday, outside, dried them in the sun & breeze & Don installed them again.

Oh, on his morning walk yesterday a pack of 5 or 6 coyotes crossed his path.  They were running so fast.  We are used to seeing lone ones but a pack is another thing.  They deserve to live in the wild, I just don't see it as being so wild around here - now that gets to be a concern.  We have found two Wolf spiders in the house & I had almost nightmares last night - must bug bomb the house again and now to spray the perimeter today.  These are huge - almost 2 inches across.  (Screaming......)

Janet:  Thank you for the message today.  It was most interesting about the war prisoner story that said "bread alone" couldn't sustain the people.  It was a faith and care.

We move on Wednesday and have lined up coffee date and dinner date on Tuesday with good friends.  Take care.

Good Morning everyone. I do pray you are all in good health today. Liz I am praying for a swift recovery for your problem.

Larry I am praying for Stacey.

Janet I am praying for Beth.

There is a lite rain falling here this morning. At Curves it seemed to be muggy, we had the fans on and the door open and it was still too hot.

Good Morning Carol you posted while I was writing.

Hi, friends, the physical therapist just left (and left me breathless!).  8)

She was amazed at the range of motion in my new knee, then took me outside to learn how to go down the steps without a hand railing. She decided I was doing so well I only need to use my cane, now. It has temporarily stopped raining, so we walked up my street past 3 houses to the mailbox and by then I was a bit breathless, so we stopped a few moments, then returned to my home. That's far more than I could do prior to the surgery! Praise the Lord.

It's 2 more times of home pt, then 3 times a week for the next 6 weeks at an outpatient rehab place.

Larry and Janet, I closely follow your conversation about Stacey and Beth.

Carol, moving isn't much fun, but after it's over then life will be much easier, won't it.

Y'all have a great day.

The picnic was great.  I really think there were more there than what was in church yesterday morning!!!  Remember this is a small church with less than 100 in attendance on Sunday mornings.  I also let them know that I would like to change my membership and how was I to do that.  I will probably get a call from the pastor this week.

Larry ~ I went to Toshiba User Guide online and learned a lot from it.  But today, I unplugged my wireless mouse, pad and pen from the desktop and I am using it here on the laptop.  I like that better...more control.

I went to Noblesville earlier today.  I was looking for a glare screen for the laptop so I could see the screen when I went outside but Office Depot, Best Buy or Staples didn't have any.  Said to check online.  But I saw a neat printer, copier and scanner.  HP and wireless!!!!  Maybe have to check that out more one of these days.  My old printer is old.

Ruth Ann I have continued to pray for you.  I am pleased to hear that you are progressing so well.

Larry and Janet you too are prayed for as are your daughters.

We are finally having some really good weather, the nights are cool but that is to be expected.  Signs of autumn coming.....the trees are turning various shades of red and yellow.  Seems we have gone from spring wo autumn without passing through summer.  We had no summer this year.

Must run lots to do

A beautiful day here.  Marilyn, even with the rain, and we had it again last night, it was warm.  I slept in my computer room last night, where I have a day bed.  I had the window open, my head laying right beside the open window.  It felt so good.  Then today the sun is shining.  My flowers are loving this. (weeds too)

Thanks for your comment on my new picture.  I decided it was time to take my "Miss Beasley" one down.

Pat, I tried to click on your Paypal link and got a message about the wrong language or something like that.  How do I donate to you through Paypal.  Just use your email?  I got my first check for babysitting for Maycie, so I feel rich. haha

Ruth Ann, I'm glad you are doing so well.  I can't imagine you doing otherwise with your positive attitude. :)

I didn't hear about Pat and Judy's brother, but I give my condolences too.  If he is with the Lord, going is a wonderful blessing even if we miss them.

Gotta go and play with Miss Maycie who is laying on the bed behind me squeeling and "talking" to her toes.     Nita

Good evening!  I worked today, went in at 6 this morning and worked until 2.  My new shoes are helping so much that my feet barely hurt at all today!  :)

Thanks for the prayers, Marilyn.  We still haven't heard anything from the Amarillo doctors...... :(

Beth's birthday is Thursday.  I don't know what to get her.  She wants a Kindle (electronic device you can read on, can download books directly to it.)  I did some reading about it online and think we should wait until the next generation comes out, maybe in October, to buy it.  This one seems to have some problems.  And it costs around $300.  Beth loves to read and is no longer able to hold a book and turn the pages.  :'(

Carol, soon the move will be completed, and I look forward to that with you.  Do you have any pets?  We have had several cats and dogs killed by coyotes.  We live in the country, and there is a pasture across the road from us where they live, or at least they are there at times.

Larry, glad you are back to enjoying your outings with the guys.  Our cleaning lady will be here tomorrow, too, for her two hours.  Thanks for the tip about searching emails--that would have saved me hours!  :-[  And maybe will in the future, if I don't forget!

Glad you enjoyed the devotional.  I really struggle getting them posted.  Last evening I was trying to post a different one I had ready and lost it somehow.

I am getting the painting bug.  My youngest daughter mailed me some sunset photos, she wants me to do a painting for her.  So I need to find out what size, etc.  Sunsets are really fun to do!

Judy and Pat, we will all be remembering your family during these next days.  May God keep you all in the hollow of His hand.

Nita, enjoy that little one!  (I know you are.)  It takes a lot of energy to take care of a little one, but such fun!

Hello, Melody!  Our nice, cool weather went away, and it is hot here again, too.

Hi, Etta Sue!  Sure can't leave you out!  How are you doing?  8)

Very early morning here.  Miss Maycie decided to wake up at 1:30 and wouldn't go back to sleep.  I finally got up with her, fixed her bottle and held her while she drank and we listened to beautiful music on Pandora.  She was lulled back to sleep after awhile, and now I'm awake. :)

I held her and watched her little face relax in the safety of gram's arms, watched sleep overcome her, listened to an occasional sigh as she gave in, and I thought of God and how much He loves us, His little children.  I understand Maycie's need, because I love it when I sense my Daddy holding me while I melt into Him and rest.  The safety of the Arms of God is compared to nothing.  Just think!  The All In All lets me climb up into His lap.  He is never in a hurry; never makes me feel I'm interrupting His important God business.  He is just Daddy.

We are so blessed.  I remember a phrase in a song, but can't remember the song......"The God of the universe calls me friend...."

Larry and Janet, your sharing about the trials of your daughters is touching and painful to read at times.  My heart is with you, as parents,  and I pray for the girls.  I believe God has something special for people who seem to suffer so much on earth.  I want to cry "It isn't fair!"  But I know so little about what is fair and what isn't, I mean compared to God's knowing all.

I guess I need to decide to drink a cup of coffee and stay up or try to get some sleep.  I'll get off the computer and make that weighty decision. lol   Nita

Hi everyone.  Again I see that I am first to post for today.  I sure didn't want to get up this morning as it is raining and so peaceful.  We are finally getting rain from the Tropical Storm Faye  and it is suppose to rain a lot more today.  Hopefully this will help fill our Lake Lanier and ease the water shortage we have had for the last couple of years.

We had six men met for lunch yesterday and had a very nice time.  Next week we are switching to Tuesday because of the Monday holiday here in the USA and it appears to be a better day for some of hte men.  It really doesn't matter to me.  We meet at 1 pm and the lunch rush is over by that time.

Today I just have a meeting to attend and then a very quiet day.  Tomorrow I have to take our daughter back to Grady hospital to see the surgeon and try to get her prescripitons renewed.  I dont look forward to the trip and know it is going to be extremely tiring to her.  Just moving around the house leaves her breatless.  However, it is someting we have to do so we will.

Janet, I have never seen one of the Kendell electronic books but that might be very helpful to Beth.  You probably would be wise to wait for the next generation since they will probably make it better and perhaps less expensive.  Glad your new shoes helped you while you were working.

Nita, Maysie, sounds like a lovely little doll.  I am sure you have any laughs with her.

Melody, I have thought about trying to use a wireless mouse on my laptop but have never done it.  My wife uses a wireless mouse on her desktop computer.

Thank you all for your continued prayers for our daughter.  She seems to be making very slow progress but considering how long she was not allowed to be on her feet it isn't surprising that she is weak.

Etta Sue, the new laser printer that the Golden Games bought for me to do their paperwork is wireless but I found it much easier to install just using a USB cable.  However, my friend Rod bought the same printer model and he did get his installed wirelessly.  If I ever eliminated my desktop and just used a laoptop, which I may do someday, then it would be nice to have it working wirelessly.

Ruth Ann, your rehab appears to be going great guns.  Keep up the good work.

Carol, I think I would be a bit frightened to have a whole pack of coyotes cross my path.  I am sure you will have a busy day today as you do those last minute things before moving.

Time to leave for coffee.

Janet - you said,
QuoteI am getting the painting bug.  My youngest daughter mailed me some sunset photos, she wants me to do a painting for her.  So I need to find out what size, etc.  Sunsets are really fun to do!

To me sunsets are indeed God's paintbrush, God's glorious artwork.  That being so, then when any earthly artist paints one, he/she is indeed doing God's work - exhibiting God's artistry.  To me, that's what true artwork is and does - it exhibits God's own artistry.  Oh how I would love to see your finished work!

I too am glad your new shoes did so much for you.  It's truly amazing how important to our well being our feet are.

That's Miss Maysie in a few months!!

I had so much fun yesterday on the laptop.  Kitty had bought me a Paint Shop Pro Photo magazine and in the pages was a coupon from Borders so I could download two games free.  So I downloaded a Mahjongg game...which I love...and a Sudoku game.  I can actually get the Sudoku one solved!!

I also ordered and anti-glare film for the laptop.  I should get it this week since it is coming from Michigan.  The email notification showed my street number wrong so I replied back with the correct number.  They replied back thanking me.  Computers do come in handy!!!

Today is Euchre at Kitty's home.  Ivalou is playing also but we have to leave promptly at 4pm to go to Beef and Boards tonight.  One of the ladies that goes has a visitation at a funeral home tonight so my growing up best friend is going in her place.  Jane and I werecloserthanthis growing up!  And she lives just down the road now and became a widow in April.  Oh, yes!  We are seeing 'The Producer' tonight.

Off and running>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm stopping in on this very busy errand day to greet all my brothers and sisters!  Greeting!  :)  I have lots of errands I need to get done today, as my friend Pat wants me to go to Garden City with her tomorrow, so doubling up!

Al, thanks for the comment about the painting.  I always say there is only ONE Creator, the rest of us can only do at best, a poor copy of His handiwork.  But I really enjoy trying.  Kerri answered my email, so I know the answers to my questions now.  And.....if I can figure out how, I will post a photo of the finished painting here on CP.  Sounds strange to say that, when it hasn't even been started yet!

I am going to the care home to talk about BEDS.  Surely we can find something to help Beth.  And since I am going with Pat tomorrow, I will try to find something Beth can use or enjoy, for her birthday.  The monthly birthday party for the care home residents will be on Thursday, her birthday!  So I will attend that, too.  Beth cannot even open her own mail or gifts any more.  :'(

Well, time is fleeting.  I did go swim this morning, got my half mile plus five today!

Etta Sue, have a blast at Beef and Boards tonight.  Do they always serve beef?  ;)

Later!  And prayers continue for Pat, Judy, and Murray's family, and for Stacey.

Hi, friends,

It would be indeed wonderful to see a picture of your painting when you've finished it, Janet. In fact, I also enjoy watching the public tv show where the artist is showing how to create paintings similar to the one he's demonstrating on tv. I suppose I'll just need to sit nearby while you're painting, playing soft hymns on the keyboard. That way we can enjoy each others talents. :)

I had been thinking for months about trying to fix nachos here at home. My son's headaches keep him away from noisy restaurants, but he truly does love hispanic-style foods. So, I figured out how to make the cheese dip using a melting cheese I found at the supermarket, then warmed up part of a can of fat free refried beans, browned about 1/4 lb. of low fat hamburger with one of the little "weiners" of chorizo sausage, got out the no fat sour cream and the mild chunky salsa. Placing modest amounts of each ingredient onto some tortilla chips made a wonderfully good lunch. For certain, that will be our biggest meal for THIS day!

And, praise God, he walked with me down the street. This is serving 2 purposes, of course, to get him out to walk a bit, give Shelby dog a bit of a sniff down our street, and he's there in case I get into trouble trying to walk. This time I walked maybe 6 feet further. Maybe each day I can add just a few feet until I reach the therapist's goal of walking 1/4 mi. twice a day. The pain is still needing medication to keep it in check, and I'm doing the exercises faithfully.

Believe me! It's a good thing I had this work done right at retirement - at least I'm not yet out of the mode of waking up fairly early and getting busy.  ^-^ To do all the arm and leg exercises will be a full-time job for the next few weeks.

Hey, Nita, is Pandora a website for beautiful music?

Y'all have a wonderful day with our Lord.

Good evening all,

This is a switch, usually I am sound asleep by this time but I am awake, sort of and getting sleepy. I have caught up on the posts and I am praying for everyone.

My husband Frank continues to improve a bit at a time and he is getting better. Good things do come to those who wait on the Lord. Michael is doing wonderful, we will tour a school the end of September and see if he can go at least part time and get some socialization in.

Well, I got my new right knee yesterday afternoon, the doctor told me when I woke up that it had been a mess in there, guess I really did a number on it over the years. Anyways, will try to get out of bed tomorrow, it didn't work real well today since they gave a morphine epidural and it numbed the left leg as well. That is out now and feeling is returning, yay.

Nuff said. I hope and pray you all have a God filled rest and blessed night.
Still Trusting in Him,
Jeannine

Good morning all from N. Ireland. The weather is not great but that is nothing new here!

Dear Jeannine I will say here publicly what I say to you many times in private...you are a wonderful friend and I am so glad you visited me and saw some of my homeland. I am so glad you got some rest and respite here and some relaxation. God did surley bless your visit. The weather was beautiful and we had such a great time of fellowship.
You know I have prayed for you many times and indeed God has answered and is answering our prayers. It is wonderful for what He has done for Frank and Michael and I know He has His healing hand upon you as well.
You take it easy my friend and get the rest you need. God bless

Take care everyone.

Hi everyone.  I think the heavy rain is over in our area, at least for awhile.  We have had somewhere close to 4 inches and there appears to have been some tornado's yesterday afternoon.

Today is our trip back to Grady Hospital so our daughter can get the rest of the staples taken out from the surgery and see the surgeons.  Hopefully we will be able to get the prescriptions she needs as well.  She may have to have some blood drawn as well to check the level of the antibiotic.

Jeannine, glad your surgery is over and you can now get into the recovery mode.  You and Ruth Ann can compare notes.  Glad to hear that your husband is doing better and that Michael is also doing well.

Time to leave for coffee.  Hope all have a good day.

Good Morning everyone. Colin and Jeannine it is so good to hear from y-all again. It's been awhile.

Not much  is new here same old , same old things going on every day. work and home walk the dogs , do laundry, clean my clients house , clean my house. etc etc.

Monday I had a whole bunch of dishes to do at my client's house they had a family dinner on Saturday night I had to unload the dishwasher and reload it and wash all the  big stuff by hand. It was a busy morning. they are talking about hiring  another caregiver who can lift her husband as he has deteriorated so much that he has lost the use of his legs. I do not do lifting at all, so that job will be coming to an end for me.I was hired to help the wife and free her up from the housework so she could care for her husband, but that has become too difficult for her. So that has been on my mind quite a bit.  I will be glad when  the job is over but still will need another hopefully without all the housework and just caring for a patient.

A COUNTRY LANE

In tranquil peace of country lane
Hedgerows crowned with lofty trees
Gentle breeze delighted in tossing leaves
As friends together prayed on their knees

One journeyed long from American soil
Across Ocean waters deep and wide
On soft Irish grass of sun kissed green
She knelt with her friend side by side

Primroses smiled at bluebells nodding
As butterflies danced that summer's day
Sweet birdsong drifted in the pure fresh air
When God came near to hear them pray

No chapel wall stones closed them in
But hedgerow and trees growing high
No ornate ceiling covered bowed heads
Just mighty dome of deep blue sky

Sweet was the time yet so tearful too
As their prayers from lips so heartfelt
Ascended to their Saviour up above
From flower sprinkled bank where they knelt

Two friends know since that wondrous day
Their prayers together were not in vain
For God has blessed since they prayed
And talked to Him in a country lane

Colin Moffett

Just a little poem inspired by Jeannine's visit. Thank you Marilyn for the greeting. Yes Larry..Ruth Ann and Jeannine should exchange notes on a KNEED to know basis. I know.. :uglystupid:

Take care.

The musical was funny...a little racy but funny.  And yes, they do serve roast beef each night...I wonder if that is why it is 'Beef and Boards'?  Wonder what the 'boards' are?  It was late getting home....11:30pm...long musical.

And Euchre at Kitty's was really nice.  She really spruced up her house with fall decorations already.  We all had a great time and met some new friends.

This evening Ivalou and I are going to Jane Biggs.  Jane and I grew up together...best pals until around the time we started dating the boys.  She lives about ¾ of a mile from me.  She asked us to come have dinner with her.  She lost her husband in April.  She's trying to find her place right now.

That's it.  It is bright and sunny in Indiana today.  Love it!!

We are back at Pat's.  I will leave the details of the funeral to Pat.  Suffice it to say that the gospel was preached and no one left without knowing the Way.

Met up with many old time friends, and cousins.  Many pictures taken.  I will be back.

Good evening, friends, The exercise session with the phys therapist was a very good one, but when she left I was experiencing pain. By the time I could take another pain pill, it was out of control, so I had to finally go to bed, knee wrapped in an ice compress, and lights out.

I guess that was about 4 or 4:30 and have just now awakened.

Thanks be to God, the meds are working now and the supper of chicken chow mein I fixed earlier in the day was delicious.

Since I left my glasses in the bedroom, I won't attempt to go to SeniorNet to post this evening, but if any one wants to go onto the sites I participate in and give them the good news, please let them know that our walk went a bit farther today, the exercises much more challenging, but I was able to do them before that "pain attack."

Y'all have a great rest of the day, friends.

Good morning!  I came in to read last evening but didn't feel like posting.

I did talk to the DON at the home about a different bed for Beth.  They have two different kinds of the ones that air up, varying the pressure on different parts of the body; Beth agreed to try one; the Director told the maintenance guy to get the beds switched.  He is a nothing of a maintenance man, so one of the head nurses told me that if he doesn't get it done asap, she will be on him daily until he does do it.

We are ready to go swim.  Today is Beth's birthday (46th) so I will attend the party at the home this afternoon.

We have a new baby!  She is an adorable little Dachshund puppy, not quite six weeks old.  Papa Darrel is staying busy starting to train her.  I think she has him trained already!  Anybody have some cute name suggestions for her?  She is half long-hair, so she has wavy ears---well, I mean the hair on her ears is wavy.  Darrel has missed having a dog since Cookie died.  Problem is, we will have to find a puppy-sitter when we go away.

Ruth Ann, it is wonderful you are doing so well.  You have a lot of 'grit' and will continue your therapy, I know.  God bless you!

All this "star" nonsense at the DNC makes me sick to my stomach.  Calling ANY man a messiah just doesn't sit well.  :P

We girls had a nice day shopping yesterday.  I found a few good bargains on some shirts, blouses, tops, whatever you call them.  ;)

Time to go swim!  Later!

Dinner with Jane was so nice.  Later we watched a video tape of 'Carol Burnett Show--A Reunion'.  They just don't make comedies like that anymore.

We were home by 9:30 so I watched some TV and did some things on the laptop.

This morning I woke to fog.  I took a walk around the house taking pictures of the fog.  Neat shots.  But won't brag until I have seen them on the monitor and Corel.

I have to mow this afternoon since I am going to a Cincinnati Reds baseball game with Clarksville Christian Church members tomorrow night.  And a 97 year young lady passed away in the neighborhood so I will be going to the funeral Saturday afternoon.

Also the Clarksville Christian Church minister called me this morning about changing my membership to Clarksville.  That will be official Sept 7th.

Busy!

Good afternoon, friends, I've been a "busy beaver" since I finally awakened. Yesterday that bad pain episode really kept me down and quiet the rest of the day. I was up and down throughout the night, then ate some cereal and laid back down "to watch the news." Well, of COURSE, the news watched me instead.

My bedroom closet is beginning to shape up, now. There are rods on 2 levels - one "way" above my head. So, that's where the out of season clothes are going and another bag for Goodwill is beginning to fill up. Oh, my, how good it feels to be able to get it done, even if in just a few minutes at a time increments.

And, I bought through Sams Club on line a steam cleaner. Have researched them for several months and finally decided to take the plunge. It's truly amazing how well it works, and since I can no longer scrub the kitchen floor on hands and knees, it promises to be a really great asset.

Etta Sue, I would imagine that you're beginning to feel much more at home in your new church. And am just as certain that your former church members are really missing you. It took me quite a while to decide to change my church membership, but am certainly thankful that I'm in the church now where I believe God wants me to be.

Happy Birthday to Beth! I really hope the maintenance man will quickly make that bed change so that possibly Beth will be more comfortable. Please take hugs and love from me to her when you see her this afternoon, Janet.

Y'all have a great day.

Hi everyone.  I didn't have time this morning to post or even read before leaving for coffee.  Following coffee I went to the home of our organist at church to help her with her computer.  She is truly a novice.  She uses AOL e-mail and didn't have a clue on how to use the Address Book.  So I helped her with that and some other things for about 90 minutes.  Her printer wasn't working because a tech she had had to try to get her Internet to work had unplugged it.  When I plugged it back into the USB port is worked fine and started spitting out page after page that had been sent but didn't print.  I got that stopped.  Hopefully I can help her on the phone and suggested she download LogMeIn and I would be able to help her from home.  That is a project for the future.

This afternoon the home care nurse came by to change the dressing on our daughter's PICC line.  She will be back next Thursday, probably for the last visit, as the PICC line will probably be taken out on 9/11 when our daughter has an appointment with the cardiologist.  She has three more days of IV antibiotics to take.  She is really going to have to baby her foot to see if her foot condition improves and the infection is conquered.

While I was out this morning I had a few spare moments so stopped at Staples and they had a notebook wireless optical mouse on sale for $10 less than the regular price so I bought it and am using it on my laptop.  So far I really like it as it is small and doesn't have the cord attached to it.  The cord was always in the way as it was plugged into the USB port.  This mouse has a USB wireless transmitter.

This afternoon I brought my computer into the bedroom and am setup here as I want to watch some football games this evening and know that Pat and our daughter don't want to watch the games.  I think I will pass on the convention today as have watched very little of it.

Ruth Ann, sorry to hear you experienced so much pain but hopefully that will lead to fast improvement.  It sounds like you have been busy with projects around your home.  Isn't it nice to have control of your time?

Etta Sue, I remember seeing the Carol Burnett reunion show when it was initially on and in the last few days I saw an infomercial on a DVD of favorite moments from the show.  That is one of my all time favorite series.  If you haven't checked it out you might be interested in a website called www.hulu.com as it has many of the old TV series and it works very well with high speed Internet.  I have been watching a number of the Mary Tyler Moore shows, Dragnet, etc. and really enjoying them.  You asked about the "boards" from "beef and boards".  I believe that is a reference to the stage floor.

Janet, sure hope the different bed will give Beth some relief.  Nothing like having a new "baby" in the family.  Dogs give so much love.  I also send Happy Birthday wishes to Beth.  Hope she had a nice party.

Colin, nice poem and I am sure Jeannine can relate to your written lines.

Marilyn, it sounds like it is time for you to have a new caring position.

Larry we are thinking  when this job ends it might be better for me to move to Oregon and get a job up there. I would be renting from Keith for  less than half of what  am paying here and we would share expenses on food and utilities; that way I maintain my independence.

I have been busy baking this afternoon and it have gotten hot in this house, I have all the windows open  ( all 5) and the fan going. I took the dogs for just a short walk and will be going to the Farmer's Market as soon as my Apple crisp pie is done. it started out as apple crisp and I decided to put a top crust on it so mow it is a pie. I already baked and frosted a Triple Chocolate cake with a vanilla Cream cheese frosting.

All that food sounds good, Marilyn.  Since you live alone, what do you do with so much food?  Knowing you, you probably bless others with it.

Speaking of food---Larry, how are you doing on Weight Watchers?  I lost only 1.2# last week, and the lecturer told me I haven't been eating enough food!  :-\  So I am tracking more carefully this week.

I swam this morning hard and fast!  We were 25 minutes late, so only had 35 minutes to swim, and I was determined to add that one more lap and stay on track toward that mile.  I was one lap shy of 3/4 today, and did do it in the 35 minutes, so I was really happy.  I really didn't think I could do it.

Beth was having a wonderful day.  When I went in about 2, she had a dozen beautiful red roses and some rich chocolates from John (the third batch of gifts from him for this birthday) and while I was there, almost every nurse and CNA and CMA on her wing came in to give her hugs, birthday greetings and gifts.  It sure made me feel good to see how much they love her.  She also got some nice gifts at the party, from my Mom (her Grandma) and from the Methodist Church Ladies who were doing the party.  I got her some high top shoes, to try to help keep her ankles from turning over so much, and some clothes.  My friend Pat is one of the Chaplains there, and she also got Beth some pretty clothes.  Beth missed John's call while she was in the bathroom, but he will call back, I'm sure.  So all in all, she is having a great birthday.

I'm working tomorrow at Park View, then on Saturday from 4 to 8 PM at the care home, as hostess.  That means I will be serving and refilling drinks, handing out their plates, whatever else needs doing, and helping with cleanup.

I'm outa here!~  Probably I will check in after work tomorrow.  Thanks for the good wishes for Beth, and Ruth Ann, keep up the good work!

Everyone here is such an inspiration!  I don't have to mention all of your trials - your faith carries you through each and every day.

We did get moved.  Here is a diet - move.  Pack, unpack, clean, etc.  You will lose weight and feel ancient.  In looking for all the new and good things, we are convinced that this was the right thing to do/  Prayers got me through the awful traffic, the newly laid asphalt street day before the move and so many little things.  We are moved but not totally unpacked.

Janet:  No pets.  All of our children have dogs and we visit often so get our doggie hugs often.  Racoons are in the back as well.  It is an open space where there are coyotes, & other critters.  Owls and coyotes can be heard at night.  Happy Birthday to Beth!

Early morning here on the island.  Now 4:47 AM and I have been up since 2 AM.  At least I found time to read all the posts....also played some SPADES on Popo.

My Dr. phoned last night and said she has to presc. a much stronger medication. The tests came back.  Seems I have some sort of Super Bug!  Hope it is not something related to the huge meat recall we are experiencing.  Not getting much sleep....Misty is getting mad at me, she sleeps at the foot of my bed. ::)

Agree with you Janet about the convention.  Guess we are going to be having our own elections in the near future.  No one here we can refer to as a saviour.  Do people really believe that stuff.....?

Have been working with Acrylics lately...rarely get any time or energy to do much.  Still prefer watercolor as first choice.  Painting is a way to keep one's mind of stuff.

Glad that people are showing progress with their illness.  Sorry about the loss of Pat and Judy's brother.  I have lost two brothers and a sister to cancer.  Not happy times.

The puppy sounds cute.  How about 'Bella' for a name.  Lets have a contest.....

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Ah, I got the non-glare film yesterday afternoon in the mail and it is applied to my display on the laptop.  As I am typing, I am sitting at my bistro table on my deck under the umbrella and listening to birds, airplanes, traffic on the highway a quarter of a mile away AND occassionally the hum of humming birds that are buzzing my Butterfly Bushes.  Ah!!!  And no glare on the screen.  I did have to raise the brightness but that is all.

It was bright and sunny but it has turned to overcast now.  Suppose to rain today.  Hope just here and not in Cincy at the Reds game.

Nothing else planned for today.  Just the Reds game.

Hi everyone.  After coffee this morning I went over to a friends house to help them with their computer.  This is one of my coffee friends and also a fellow member of my church.  I had gone over last night but we ran out of time and everyone was getting tired so I said I would come back this morning.  I think I got them fixed up.  They have an old and very slow computer.  I don't have anything else on my schedule for the day.

Our daughter seems to be feeling better each day and has only a couple more days of the IV's unless they decide she needs to continue for a while longer.

Etta Sue, is the glare film applied permanently to your screen or just something you can use when needed such as when you are outside?  Does your new laptop have one of the glass covers over the screen?  Mine has such a cover and it does produce glare under certain conditions.

Liz, sorry to hear that your illness continues.  Hope the new meds will solve your problem.

Carol, glad to see you back online with the report that your move is behind you.  It sounds like everything worked out.

Gord, glad to see you back.

Jeannine, home sure looks good doesn't it when we have been away for awhile.  Hope your rehab goes well.

Janet, today was my weigh in day and I have now lost 11.5 pounds with a 1.5 pound loss this last seven days.  Glad Beth had such a nice day yesterday and know it made your heart sing.

Marilyn, your baking sounds very good.

Jeannine, hope your rehab goes really well. Today was the visiting physical therapist's last day. And, next week begins 6 weeks of 3 times a week going to the outpatient physical therapy clinic.

Ouch! My billfold will certainly cry - the home therapy is fully covered under insurance but I have to pay $30 each visit - looks like a bundle of $$$ for me!

Well, it's time to eat a bite of lunch, then rest for awhile. I think my son's gonna take me out to do some errands later this afternoon.

Y'all have a good day.

Jeannine and Ruth Ann, I so admire both of you for your attitude toward your rehab.  Keep that positive outlook, and I know you will have a positive result!  Ouch in the pocketbook, Ruth Ann!  Could they maybe teach you how to do the rehab at home?  So many changes in your life lately, but you are a real trouper, and you will get through this, too!

Thanks for the name suggestions for our puppy girl.  We had a 'Daisy' Dachshund, also have had a 'Molly' and a 'Sally'  (that was a basset hound) .  My grandmother's name was Daisy!  ;)  'Chloe' has also been suggested, but just now we are thinking she will be 'Bella.'  GMTA, Liz!!

Carol, I'm so happy your move is done!  Now, take your time with all the unpacking and putting away, don't wear yourself completely out!  How much did you lose? (I came back to say 'weight' as it wasn't clear what I meant!)

Good job, Larry!  So far, I have lost 71/2 #, and hope for a good weigh-in on Tuesday evening.  I have been tracking my points more carefully this week.

Although until today I had never heard the name Sarah Palin, I am delighted with McCain's choice of a running mate!  Just my opinion, you understand.  Feel free do disagree if you like.

I hope Pat come in and greets us again soon.  I miss her!

Long day and I'm tired, think I will go watch some TV with my honey and his new girl. Bella the puppy, that is. ^-^

 on the doggie names

Janet:  I have lost about ten pounds since this all began months ago.  Cutting sugar in my diet because Don is doing the same & smaller portions.  Bet you are having such fun with the new puppy!

Larry:  That is a nice loss for you - the pounds I mean.  It is harder to lose when going out to eat - we didn't have the big refrigerator for so long and now I need to go and fill it with veggies and salad fixings.

We had our first complaint from the homeowner's assoc.  Apparently, 6 busybody people said our DISH outside sits too high = and here we did ask for the permission and was told by a board member where it should be placed, etc.  How silly this is because we back up to a natural area - the DISH is on a deck in back.  Well, the good thing is that DISH will move it for these non-contented people but they will be seeing more cable lines then.  There is a Federal Law that says we can put the DISH anywhere but we are keeping quiet - this is just retired crabby people finding something to complain about.  I thought at first that we would be called about having our garage door open too often as we have been in and out.  We will get over this and frankly don't even want to know who complained as it would affect our judgement of them.   No charge for us.

We didn't do as much yesterday and still kept going because there is so much to do.  Found some Hot & Icy cream for aching shoulder & it smells awful but may have helped.

I just have to vote for the new Hockey Mom - I was a Hockey Mom too!  8)  What a refreshing change - someone who actually speaks the truth and isn't all caught up in produced answers.  Don has a cold & not feeling up to par.  Coughing.

Have a good Labor Day weekend all in US & hello to everyone else around the world.

Liz:  You had two earthquakes recently.  How is everything there?

"Carpenter!"     Good one, Colin!  I might be sorely tempted if the puppy were a male.

Darrel says he doesn't really care for Bella for the puppy's name......so keep those ideas coming!

We planned to work on putting up peaches today, but they aren't quite ripe enough yet.  I'm just so happy to even have some this year, love peaches.  8)

Oh, boy, Carol.  I think some people just don't have enough to do, so they try to mind other people's business for them.  Just being petty.  Have a rest, will you?  :)

I went out early this morning for a brisk walk/run.  I would walk the distance of two telephone poles, then run to the next, then walk.  Intervals are supposed to do a better job for you.  We will see.

My sister Jeanie is on a cruise, and should be in the area being affected by Gustav...... :-\  Sure hope all is well with her.  Mom is so worried, so I told her that worrying will not help, but praying will.

I think I shall go have another cup of coffee.  Only had half of one so far, stopped to try to skin peaches.

Talk to you later!

I voted.

Janet; Congratulations on getting you new puppy. Are you having fun with her?

Melody; I hope you summer isn't over yet. I not ready for ours to over ether.

I've been keeping busy, so I haven't been taking too many pics. But I did take some last night. I'll post them a little later.
I also got a job for the next few days, babysitting the neighbor's dogs.

Have a great day, everyone.

Hi everyone.  I have had a nice quiet type day and a nice rest this afternoon.

Carol, perhaps you could refer the complaints to the board member who told you where to put the
Dish or approved it.  I agree with Janet's comments.  If it is in the back of the house and there is no one back of you this seems terribly picky.  Sure hope Don doesn't become ill.

Janet, cruise ships have great communications and I am sure they have taken proper precautions to steer away from the storm or seek port before it would hit.  This sure looks like it is going to be a major hurricane.  Good progress on your Weight Watchers.  I take it you are attending the meetings for the weigh in?  I sure don't disagree with your comment on Sarah Palin.  I had to feel sorrow for her family, however, as their lives have certainly been impacted beyond belief.

Glad to hear the rehab is going well for you both, Ruth Ann and Jeannine.

Larry ~ I have a TruBrite display screen.  The film is kind of permanent.  If you can find an edge, you could remove it.  It isn't stuck on but sticks on...does that make sense?  But it does work.  No reflection.  I got it from www.photodon.com  Two day delivery but it came from Michigan so not far to go.

The Reds game was great.  The minister drove the church van and there were 11 total of us.  We were approaching Cincinnati on I-74 and it started raining.  So we decided that we might have to tell the rest of the congregation that we had a nice dinner in Cincinnati.  But we went on.  Got to the Great American Ball Park and it quit raining.  Security wouldn't let us unload from the van at the entrance so we found a parking space and had to walk about 6 blocks.  We got in the stadium and got us a hot dog and Pepsi ($9) and found our seats.  A man was drying off the seats but it didn't rain the rest of the night.  The game was scoreless until the 4th inning and Cincy got a Grand Slam.  Then Sand Diego got 4 runs.  Then Cincy got another homer with one man on base.  Some how more runs came in home and the final score was 11-7 with Cincy winning.  Great game.  I got home at 1:10am.

Then today was a funeral for a 97-year young neighbor lady.  The minister said that he noticed that several ladies went out to lunch after church on Sundays.  He asked Berniece one day, 'Just what do you ladies have to talk about when you go out to eat?'  He said, she looked at him real serious and said, 'Well, now.  I don't believe that is any of your business!'  Berniece will be missed by relatives and friends.

After the funeral Ivalou and I went to church and helped with the funeral dinner.  We ate and then cleaned up.  Tired but fulfilling day.

I plan on cutting a watermelon later and that's it for today!!

Thank you for the website, Nita. I, too, am really enjoying the classical music Pandora is providing. Do you know how to request hymns?

Jeannine, it's really good the therapist can cover both clients during the same visit.

Today has been a great day - I awakened a bit late, then quickly dressed, ate a tiny bit of breakfast, cooked green beans with a little taste of country ham in them and made a carrot, raisin, and 1/2 apple salad, then drove about 20 miles away to a friend's house for a ladies' luncheon. It's amazing but not one dish was duplicated. I came home with just enough carrot salad for one serving tonight for supper, and absolutely no green beans - just a dish and spoon to wash. :)

On the way home I stopped at Target and got 2 items needed - thank goodness Target's right on the way, so no more gasoline needed to take care of that errand.

By the time I got home, I was "zausted"!!! I don't think I'm ready to take on jaunts like driving to Atlanta yet - FOR SURE!

Daddy's big ole recliner chair certainly felt good.  :)

Well, y'all have a wonderful rest of the day - go with God.

I'm glad you enjoyed the ball game, Etta Sue. I've gone to a few games with my dad. It's a ton of fun.

Hi everyone.  I was able to sleep later today as we don't leave for church until 10:30 am.  I am sitting here watching the news about the hurricane.  Hard to believe this is happening again but certainly the preparations are in much better shape than before.  We get a lot of the refugees in the Atlanta area.  Have to really feel for the people having to leave their homes without knowing whether it will be there when they return.

Etta Sue, thanks for the info on the film.  I will save the link and if the glare becomes a problem will order the film.  It sounds like you had a great time at the ballgame.  I don't expect to ever attend another Braves game downtown but we will have minor league Braves baseball here in our county starting in 2009.  Our county is building a $59 million dollar new stadium for the team.  It sounds like your 97 year old friend was quite a lady.  I liked her response to the minister.

Ruth Ann, glad you felt up to attending the ladies luncheon.  Regarding Pandora, I just set up a Christian Music station and they play some very nice Christian music.

Hope this is a great day for everyone.

Not many posts since I posted yesterday.   Everyone must be super busy.

Did I tell you that someone at the funeral dinner said we needed some hot pads to sit under the hot dishes on the serving table?  They were using old dish towels...some of which had seen their day.  So I told them I would crochet some out of cotton yarn.  I think I need 4-15" ones for large pots and then some 10-12" ones.  Then someone said at least 20 of them!!  Well, I will start out with the 15" ones...you can always use them too big.  So I must get busy.

Church was great today.  His sermon series is on 'The Pests in our Life'.  Criticism, procrastinating and today was on 'complaining'.  Really hits home.

Later seven of us 'ladies', as the minister says, went to King Chef...a Chinese sit-down restaurant.  Not buffet.  I had Orange Chicken...really superb!

When I got home I 'fixed' my Corel X2...I couldn't get the plugins to work when I transferred them from the desktop to the laptop.  Then when I went to the desktop, they were gone.  So I saved them from the laptop on the flash card and put them in the desktop.  I got both to working...on the laptop I just needed to change where the plug ins were.  I had PSP8 files and it should have been PSP files.  Big difference.

Well, better get to crocheting!!!

Hi from the island.  Cold today, but the sun is out and bright!  Wish I were out and bright.  Still trying to beat the Super Bug and not sure who is winning.

Yes, we have had some earthquakes in the area.  So far, so good.  Out on the water and not causing any damage.  Have not felt anything and hope it stays that way.

Sorry about your Strata, Carol.  Seems there are always a few who spend their time causing problems.  Owned three condo's over the years and found each place had problems.  Sort of like walking on eggshells...as the old saying goes.  Found that least said, soonest mended.

Wouldn't you know that with a bladder infection, my new ToTo toilet decided to shake, rattle and vibrate and now have to wait for a plumber after the long weekend.  Seems that low-flow are now causing problems for many.  Checked on the internet and read that in Japan, they recalled many thousand of the heated ones.  Seems they were catching fire due to the wiring.  Talk about a Hot Seat! ::)
Our neighbor has one, they like new toys.  Meanwhile, I trudge upstairs to visit.....

Names for dogs can be difficult, Janet.  Suggest to your hubbie that he Google cute puppy names...thousands out there.  Some that seem popular are:  Bonnie, Minnie, Angel, Lucy, Cricket, Maddie, Molly, even Abby.  Tho' that might confuse your wee granddaughter if she is visiting... ;)  Name sort of needs to fit the pup.

Guess I best go and rest again.  Golly, that is boring!

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz

This is the last day of August.  Cannot believe this month has passed so quickly.  Don does have a cold but was able to walk 3 miles with me today - really, I wanted to turn back earlier.  Then, we both had to take cat naps in the afternoon.  Tonight, our #3 son & wife are coming by to visit.  I have some very good sugar-free ice cream (Ruth Ann, are you listening????) - it is Blue Bunny and tastes so good.

Oops, gotta go. They are here.
