Morning Devotional...

When It Comes to the Devil...How to Think

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good
Romans 12:21

There are two mistakes people make about the devil. One, they get into demonology—always studying, wondering, and talking about demons. Their focus rests on Satan rather than on the Lord Jesus. The Bible says we're to resist the devil; it doesn't say we're to chase him.

On the other hand, there are those who are flippant about the devil. They have nicknames for him and think he's a cartoon or fantasy.

The truth is, we have a powerful adversary, the devil. Peter likens him to a roaring lion! A mature Christian recognizes that he has an enemy. He respects the power of the enemy. Then he clings to the power of the Lord Jesus Christ to overcome this great adversary.

ACTION POINT:
Is the lion prowling around your life? Take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and break free from his jaws of destruction.

Off to church I go.

Darrel and Curtis left this morning for South Texas to get Darrel's brother Don's dump trailer.  It will be a money and work saver for Curtis as he guts their house to get rid of the lead paint.  That a thousand-mile trip one way!  So they won't be back before Wed. evening, I'm thinking.  If all goes really well and the trailer doesn't need new tires or other work, they may get home by Tuesday night.

:cheer: Marilyn is now pain free!!  :woohoo:

I went out to the Pizza Hut with three friends for lunch after church this morning.  This evening, Frankie Vallens is giving a free concert here in our town.  Anyone here remember him?

Larry, a little at a time gets even the biggest job done. Glad you aren't wearing yourself out with the sorting.

I need a little nap; then I have a story to type!

A TAPE TOLD A STORY

I went into this hire shop the other day
A Gospel CD. I wanted them to play
I wondered if the songs had a good going lilt
So I spoke to this bald headed man dressed in a kilt
But he just stood there and did not answer back
And the more I enquired; the less he spake
Is he deaf; I wondered; I prodded him in the tummy
I felt a right fool; he was only a plastic dummy

My face went red; my embarrassment was dire
Along with this dummy; more dressed in wedding attire
Oh gracious; I thought; your eyesight is not improving
I will only speak again when I see a "dummy" moving
A big head moved; at last a living guy
Can I hear that CD playing before I buy?
Yes----well all right; he grumpily answered me
Just hold on a wee moment; I have another customer to see

Dead on; I said; just take your hurry
I am not in any rush; please do not worry
For the fellow I could see was working non-stop
So I stood and viewed around the wee hire shop
But then I got tired waiting; so I spoke in a civil tone
I will be back again; but I must go home to Portglenone
Just hold on there now sir; he shouted; I'm free!
And in the music centre he stuck on the CD

So I listened to a song and it was pretty good
But I will hear another one; so at the counter I stood
My eye had rested on the dummy dressed in tartan
When I heard someone say; measure me for a suit here Martin
On the shop floor an elderly couple stood
I did not want to stare; I thought it would be rude
As Martin around the man's waist did measure
The result of which made the couple smile with pleasure

It is forty; said Martin; I am sure that will do
A pair of trousers forty-two will be too slack on you
Oh my dear; said the woman; that is great
I am pleased; said the man; that I have lost some weight
I listened to their chat with a bit of a grin
And thought; I have also lost weight for the burden of my sin
From my wicked heart; by Jesus has been lifted
And now eternal life to me has been gifted

The length of the tape may measure your waist
The length of your time is departing in haste
And some day your soul will take flight
Have you been measured for a new robe of white?
How can you measure God's great love for you?
And the depth of suffering Jesus went through
Can you measure the width of His arms stretched wide
And the length He went for you when He died

Can you measure the heights He will carry you to?
When He reaches down in the depth of the pit for you
Tarry not long to take that outstretched hand
For the length of your time is at His command
The length of eternity has no beginning or end
Consider dear friend where in its everlasting you will spend
In the depths of the darkness or in the heights of the glory
And this is what I thought of when a tape told a story

Well, it's late in the day and not many people since Jeanne posted the devotional yesterday.  Where are you all?  Busy?  Lovely weather here today.  I cut part of the lawn but then had to rest.

Talk to you all soon.

I'm here, Pat!  Darrel called an hour or so ago and said he and Curtis are on their way back home with the trailer.  All was quiet at Don's which is an answer to my prayer!  They should get home around noon tomorrow if all goes well and they have no tire or other trouble.  God is so good!

I do wish many of our missing members would come back.  I miss them!

Looks like it's mid-summer doldrums, Pat.   :)

Beautiful day here, too.  We've been told to expect "widely scattered showers and thunderstorms" for the last three days and a couple more to come, but no sign of anything yet.

Janet, my prayers continue for travel mercies for Darrel and Curtis.

Hi Jeanne.  We've had a lot of rain!

It's an overcast day here on the Oregon coast ... temps in the low to mid 60's, but much warmer inland ... even triple digit in some places!  :o  This is why I love it here in my little corner of the world.

I have a man (a friend's son) who has been doing a splendid job with my yard ... even taking out some plants that I would have liked to keep  :-\ ... and he tells me if I get the mulch he will put it around in the flower beds for me.  He said 6-7 bags should do it, so I went to the store today to get 7 bags of wood chips/mulch .... I paid for them inside and then drove out in the yard to load them into my car.   There was no attendant out there so I had to load 7 bags of very heavy (for me) wood chips into the trunk of my car myself!   Now my back is hurting!   >:(  He will just have to unload them from my car whenever he comes around next time.

I'm going to go kick back in my recliner now and just chill out for the rest of the day and evening.  See y'all later .... :hello:

Does this man charge a lot, Jane?

I need someone like that!  I have some compost bags I unloaded from the back of my car nearly two weeks ago on the front lawn by the driveway and I just can't move them from there.  :)

Yes, Pat, of course I liked Colin's poem!  And you and Jane neither one need to be loading or unloading heavy bags of stuff!  Ouch!

I damaged my back jumping on the mini trampoline.  Dr. Saxon said I compressed the discs together.   :'(  I had NEVER had any back pain before that.  Sigh....  And I am due for my second Prolia shot to help rebuild the calcium in my bones, so have called my medical Dr. about that.

More wonderful news on Beth!!  She can now smell a little bit again!  YEA, GOD!!  He is so good---all the time!!

And...my carpenter, Lon FINALLY came today and finished the job he was paid to do all those months ago!  He put up the gutter above the front door and grouted the tile outside the door!  Yippee!

Pat, he only charges $8 an hour ... he has been "down on his luck" for a long time ... he really works hard ... comes on his bicycle and keeps his tools in my shed.  Sometimes he can use his mother's car.

I meant to tell you that I enjoy Colin's poetry and videos on facebook all the time.  Very talented, he is.

Nice, to-the-point devotion Jeanne Lee, thanks for that!  And Pat, Colin's poem took the backroads to arrive at a very good message, thanks for sharing it.

Just thought I'd drop in to break the silence here, and to offer Buddy some male companionship ;)

We could sure use some of that rain Pat reported...things are getting very dry here, and the fire danger is approaching critical, again  :(

Will be off to the eastern part of the country on Wednesday with my youngest daughter, she has an audition in Strasburg, PA.  We'll do a little touring around and goofing off beforehand.  Am hoping the weather, particularly the humidity, won't be too tough on us while we are there.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week, filled with the riches of His blessings!

Hi everyone on a hot Georgia afternoon.  Pat and I just got back from eating lunch and it really wasn't very good so know we won't be going back there again.  The housekeepers were here this morning so now we have a nice clean house and the yard people will be here later today.  This morning I took Pat's LazBoy chair to the service center to have the seat re-padded and the footrest problem fixed.  I had to leave it so we will be without it for a few days.  Now am resting for the afternoon and staying in where it is cool.

Good to have you here, KEN!  And enjoy that tour of Pennsylvania with your daughter.  You'll be making memories!

Pat, that railroad tour does look like fun.  Too bad I didn't know about that a few years ago when we went to Pennsylvania.  Of course, we were with a group, but figure they would all have enjoyed it.  Maybe there will be another time!

You do have the dates on your calendar for our trip in September, don't you?   ;)

When I visited Beth this morning, I took along a little book by Andy Andrews called Baseball, Boys and Bad Words.  She laughed and laughed , the most I've heard her laugh in years!  Truly, laughter is good medicine!  Of course I laughed, too--till I cried!  What a story-teller that Andy Andrews is!  He had a special on some of his books and I ordered it; got five of them.  Shirley especially liked The Butterfly Effect.

Darrel isn't home yet, but when I called him about 11:30, they had just passed Childress, Texas, so they should get here around 3:30 or so, he thought.  All was going well, praise the Lord!

Larry, did Pat decide to keep her Lazy Boy chair?

Our house cleaner will be here at 1:00 and I need to do some straightening up.  Have a great day, everyone!

I was wondering if Larry lifted that chair himself!!!  How did you get it into the car or whatever you took it in Larry?  Looks pretty big to me from my memory of it when I was there.

Janet, you'll have to remind me of the exact dates again.  ;)   Looking forward to that!

Hi Jeanne...  Wish I could hang my washing out.  Maybe I'll get another umbrella one.  Just need to replace the concrete in the ground where the pipe goes in.  It's not the same as a nice long line but still so lovely to see the clothes waving in the breeze!

We were to the vet with 2 out of 3 dogs today.  All shots up to date.  They seem to love this vet and the vet sure loves our boys.  We have an expensive time coming for Rambo.  To get his eye fixed and him spayed will be $800.  Not something we can do any time soon.

We had a wonderful time in the sun today, beautiful weather at last.  It rained last night, however it didn't last.  The farmers are having a dickens of a time getting their hay in.  Very late this year, it should have been finished 3 weeks ago.  With all the rain everyone is behind.

I am looking forward to heading to Pat's this week.  We will have some good "sister" time!

Pat, I thought about Larry lifting the chair, too.  Even with the back lifted off, the base is still pretty heavy.

I'll send you another email as the dates approach.  Sure am looking forward to seeing you, dear one!

Darrel is home!!!  Yea!  He says he and Curtis had a good time together.

Judy, how in the world would a vet spay a male dog?   ;)  I do believe you mean neuter!   What's wrong with the dog's eye?

I feel very strongly that we should all be praying for Nancy in Atlanta, GA hospital.

Here's the news item from the SIM Missionary organization:

Charlotte, NC — The condition of Nancy Writebol, a missionary who recently contracted Ebola while serving in Liberia, has worsened, according to SIM (www.simusa.org), the Christian missions organization with which she serves. She continues her battle against the deadly virus.

Writebol was serving alongside Dr. Kent Brantly on a joint team of people with Samaritan's Purse and SIM when they contracted Ebola.

Writebol is in stable, but serious condition and is receiving an experimental drug that doctors hope will better address her condition. Her husband, David, is close by. With her condition, he can only visit his wife through a window or dressed in a haz-mat suit.

"We continue to pray for Nancy's full and complete recovery," said Bruce Johnson, president of SIM USA. "Even though her condition has worsened, we know she is receiving the best possible medical care, and we are thankful that she has access to this experimental drug. We believe in the power of prayer and ask people around the world not only to pray for Nancy and Kent, but also for everyone affected by this terrible virus."

To date, no other SIM personnel have tested positive for Ebola.

SIM remains committed to the safety of all personnel in affected areas and is in the process of removing all non-essential employees from Liberia. SIM is not releasing a timeline for the evacuations or destinations because of a respect for the privacy of its personnel. The missions organization is taking safeguards that exceed the standards recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.

Despite these perilous conditions, SIM remains committed to Liberia. The organization currently has two SIM doctors caring for Writebol and Brantly, and SIM's Liberian staff is still engaged in the region. SIM ministries, including its radio station, school and HIV-AIDS public health education group, continue to operate.

The latest updates on Writebol's condition and its role in the Ebola epidemic in Liberia are available at SIM's website, www.simusa.org.

SIM is an international Christian mission with a staff of nearly 3,000 workers serving in more than 65 countries. In addition to medicine, SIM serves on every continent in areas of education, community development, public health and Christian witness. While SIM stood for Sudan Interior Mission when it was founded 120 years ago, it is now a global mission known as SIM. Two of SIM's three founders died of malaria within the first year of the organization's founding. Yet SIM continued on to become one of the largest Christian medical missions in the world.

Thank you for that, Pat.  It surely is important to keep these missionaries in our prayers at all times, and especially now, as they face such hazardous conditions.  I pray the new experimental drug will prove completely effective for Nancy Writebol and Dr. Brantly.

Hi, friends,

I just don't know how the days slip together, and I forget to turn on the computer. :(

I miss y'all!

I have a quarterly appointment with the doctor tomorrow morning, so I'll be teasing the lady who draws blood and asking her to give me a sticker that says: Kiss me - I gave! She usually takes between 8 and 12 vials for tests. So, I feel a little serious about that sticker.

It was good today to meet friends at Golden Corral - I really enjoy their baked fish and, of course, a great variety of vegetables. Besides, the best part was getting to be with my friends. They are currently living about 20 miles away, so only get into Nashville when the need arises, as it did today.

Well, must close for tonight this morning. The alarm is going to ring extra early for me, I think! :)

Love to all,
Ruth Ann

this is a new laptop & I am trying to figure it out - so, please have patience.  Don is staining the deck - he shouldn't do it but he is taking it slowly and it is still cool enough this morning.  Several days ago, there was snow in the high country and the leaves are turning.  Don bought a Lenovo refurbished laptop for me as my old one had a new problem every day.  Not like the old days when things worked forever, is it?  These come with no instructions now, I guess the techies figure everyone knows everything there is to know.  We finally found the "on" button, all black and hidden & so tiny.

Yes, of course I have said prayers for the special two missionaries from the beginning.  Both are said to be improving.  Wouldn't that be a miracle.  They are using a new drug discovery - isn't it amazing that it is "discovered" just in time - that would make a lot of sermons.

Back to my purging files in my deep drawer and reorganizing it once again.

Thank you so much for devotions - they always are "spot on".

Hi everyone.  Another hot day here in Georgia.  We went to Bible Study and then to Dunkin' Donut.  It was not very comfortable in Dunkin' Donut as the air conditioning was not working but we made the sacrifice to stayed until noon. We will be staying in the rest of the day where it is cool.

Janet, yes Pat did decide to keep her LazBoy chair and we are having the seat re-stuffed.  By using a couple of pillows behind her back it puts her feet out far enough so her heals don't touch the foot rest.  It was $80 to re-stuff the chair as it is in good  condition.  By the work order it appears they will adjust the foot rest mechanism without additional charge since they are doing other work.

Janet, where will you be going on your next trip?  I don't remember seeing that information.

Judy, sure don't envy you and that expensive vet bill.

Pat, I read yesterday that the experimental serum they have given to both of the eboli patients has some connection to something found in tobacco.

Ruth Ann, I don't think I have ever had more than 5 vials of blood taken at a time.  It sounds like you would a wounded sticker.

David, welcome back and look forward to your postings. Hope the job search soon proves successful.

Carol, I have had two Lenovo laptops, one of which is my current laptop,  and now have two Lenovo desktops.  Even if you gotten a new one it wouldn't have come with much in the way of instructions.  Do a Google search to find answers to your concerns as there always seems to be others who have had the same questions. You might put a drop of fingernail polish on the power button to make it easier to see.  Pat has done that on several things where it is black on black.
Pat. I did not lift the chair as two of my coffee drinking buddies came back to the house and loaded it for me on Monday.  One of the guys stayed and helped me complete the sorting of the boxes we had on the porch and the housekeepers took most of what we are donating and will get the rest in two weeks when they return.  The fellow I pick up for coffee will come and help me get it out of the car when I get it home.

I have a CD that I bought when I was down in Florida in Pensacola.  It's of the Rejoice singers and this hymn especially has meant so much to me in the past several days.  I've played it over and over again.  I then found it on YouTube and so I'm going to post a link to the YouTube location and the words and we're going to have the best choir here as everyone sings together.

What wonderful words all about "building your faith"!!

Turn up the volume!

Published on May 7, 2014

sung by Rejoice Singers

BUILD YOUR FAITH

The faith on which we stand is just as strong as its foundation;
If it's on the Rock, the winds of life won't blow it down.
But if it's built upon the sand, When the storm comes you'll be shaken;
You'll be looking for a place to stand on solid ground.

But if you build your faith before the walls start breaking,
Build your faith before the earth starts shaking,
Build your faith before the storm gets out of control;
If you build your faith upon God's foundation,
Then you'll still be standing when the storm is raging;
Build your faith on the Lord, and you'll have peace in your soul.

To those who trust in Him, God gives a calm assurance
That whatever comes, His love will always stay secure.
So if your hope is getting dim, remember He provides endurance
To take you safely through each storm and keep your footing sure.

So if you build your faith before the walls start breaking,
Build your faith before the earth starts shaking,
Build your faith before the storm gets out of control;
If you build your faith upon God's foundation,
Then you'll still be standing when the storm is raging;
Build your faith on the Lord, and you'll have peace in your soul.

So if you build your faith before the walls start breaking,
Build your faith before the earth starts shaking,
Build your faith before the storm gets out of control;
If you build your faith upon God's foundation,
Then you'll still be standing when the storm is raging;
Build your faith on the Lord, and you'll have peace in your soul.
Build your faith on the Lord, and you'll have peace in your soul.

WOO!  Hallelujah!  I sang myself happy!  Thanks, Pat, that's a good song!

Larry, we are going to Niagara Falls next month, and the plan is for Pat to meet us up there somewhere.  I'm so looking forward to it!  We leave here on the 12th.

I went to Red Hats today.  We ate at Puffy's Pizza, a new place here in town.  It was good!  :)  There were ten ladies present.

I'm doing laundry this afternoon.  At the gym this morning I did intervals, and used most of my energy.  :tiredtread:

Ken, I am praying that you have a wonderful time with you daughter!

I will be praying for you that God will open the doors for you to find a job!

WOO!

Janet, make sure you see Niagara Falls at night with the lights on them.

Ahhhh, the mention of Niagara Falls! The first time I saw the falls was when I was about 5 years old. I remember being mightily impressed by those falls, then when it got boring, I drove my parents nuts with them trying to keep me on the inside of the barrier, not outside of it near the overhang. :)

Not too many years ago, my friend Mary who came with me to the Atlanta SeniorNet bash asked me to travel with her to upstate New York where she grew up and then on to Niagara Falls. We had her little 2 year old grandson in tow. The strongest memory that makes me smile is of the little one begging his grandma, "No showah, Mamaw, no showah!" Apparently, he was much more fond of tub baths, than of showers. :)

The visit with the doctor was a good one with some good results. Now, to work on the areas we discussed before the end of this quarter. :)

Much love to all,
Ruth Ann

It's 12:19 am and I just finished the POTD and Cracker Shots on Photography Cafe and decided to come back here before retiring for the night to hear "Build Your Faith" one more time!

So happy that you sang yourself happy, Janet!

And what a wonderful photo of the Falls, Buddy!  Yep!  She'll see them that way.  Up the Skylon Tower!

Anyway, I just posted the POTD on the Cafe and thought I'd share it with all of you!  It's so cute!

Hi everyone on another sunny and hot day here in Georgia.  I have a very light schedule today.  This is my men's Thursday lunch day at 11:30.  I think I will also go to Kohl's Department Store this morning to check out their sale items on men's shirts as could use a few more.  I think I will do that on my way to lunch so that when lunch is over I will be ready to come home.  That will be it for today.

I am glad I put "coffee" in that sentence as well.  :)  I love that Hymn you posted and found it on Spotify by a group called Fresh Anointing and have saved their music to my Spotify music playlists.

Janet, sure wish we could join you when you meet with Pat as we always enjoy being in her company and would love to meet you and Darrel as well.  Is this a tour group you are going with?  I had to chuckle when I saw the name of the pizza place you ate at yesterday as a person would be "Puffy" if they ate pizza too often.  :)

Ruth Ann, glad you got a good report from your doctor yesterday.

Sure a cute picture of that "chow time animal" enjoying what appears to be a chunck of licorice.

That's true, Larry--one could get pretty Puffy by eating pizza too often!  ;)  And I think that's a sunflower seed the little critter is eating.  What a sharp photo that is.  Wow!

I must get ready to go to a tea party/supper.  It's a combination birthday party for one of our gals along with a farewell party for my friend Pat (the one who does my hair).  She will soon be moving back to Texas, and I'm surely going to miss her!

Catch you all later!

Larry:  Thanks for the tips for my new to me computer. We can't see if this can get Bluetooth but it can get Bluetooth files so will keep looking.   We listened to and watched an old u-tube of Liza Minelli and Pavarotti singing "New York - New York" - such talent.  It looks like I will be trying to visit Maine sometime this winter because one grandson is going there for hockey season.  I am almost finished with his quilt.  A full size quilt -almost a queen - is getting tough to handle.  Only one more grandchild and then I think I will stop making the big quilts.

What a gulley-washer we just had with hard hail and the water came up in the ravine for a short time.  It looks like more is headed this way.  Truly the monsoon is in full force.

Janet:  What fun ahead for you to be able to meet with Pat too!  It should be nice and cool in that area.  Take lots of pictures.

Hi everyone from  the  other person on the west coast.  No I didn't get lost it has  been a very busy time both at home and at the clinic. So I am finally getting here to post. Bible Study today was part two of the Spiritual warfare and Armor. As I read II Chronicles 20:1-29, about the Spirit of God and the Battle Jehoshaphat faced. I could feel the holy Spirit all over me. After reading that section I just sat back in awe of our God All I could say was Wow!!. What an awesome God we have.

Please pray for Keith, I took him to the eye DR. yesterday and he has a fast growing cataract growing in his left eye. The doctor said that no pair of glasses would help him because he has far sightedness in one eye and Near in the other. He was told that it is either surgically removing the cataract now or contacts. He is opting for contacts which will probably one be good for 6 months  or maybe a year at the most. He is also set up for to excise a thing they called a cutaneous horn under his right eye that will be sent  to pathology to check for cancer cells, which could be under it as well.

Hi everyone.  I have a few minutes before leaving for coffee at the Senior Center.  We had some rain last evening and a fifty percent chance of more rain today.  At least we should stay in the high 80's rather than the 90's.  They called late yesterday afternoon to say our Laz-Boy chair was ready for pick up so will do so after coffee.  I also need to stop at Kaiser for a PSA blood test and at Walmart.  So it will be another busy morning but the afternoon and evening will be free.  We spoke with our son and DIL last evening and the news was good in that our DIL has gained several pounds and is feeling better.

Janet, the sunflower seed makes more sense than the licorice candy.  I am sure it was a bitter sweet party for you last evening in having to get that much closer to your good friend moving to Texas.

Carol, it may be that your laptop doesn't have the blue tooth feature so I may have sent you on a wild goose chase. I know the iPad and iPhones and I believe the other Smart devices have that feature as am using it when I type from the iPad with the bluetooth keyboard I have so I don't have to type from the screen keyboard.  I don't think Pat plans on making anymore quilts unless they are twin size.  She is about to finish the two identical twin quilts and they are very colorful and a change from anything we have ever had as bedspreads.  Our you familiar with the Missouri Star Quilt Company?  If I have asked you about this before please forgive me.  Pat loves the site and the videos and has made quite a few orders from them and is very satisfied.

Marilyn, sure hope the check of the cells don't prove to be cancer.  Interesting that the contact lens would work where glasses wouldn't.  I am happy to read your Bible studies have been going so well.

Marilyn, I would suggest that Keith go ahead and have the cataract surgery.  It is so simple, totally painless, and only takes about 10 to 15 minutes.  I don't have any idea of his age, but if he is on Medicare, they pay for the surgery.  Darrel and I have had it on both eyes, with excellent results.  Maybe there are other factors affecting Keith's decision, I don't know.

We had another lovely rain last night!  Wonderful!

We are leaving in the morning to attend a wedding in Great Bend, Ks.  Pat is going with us, and we will come home on Sunday.

I am exhausted (bad night last night) so am heading to bed!

Hi everyone on a cloudy and relatively cool morning here in Georgia.  We had a very heavy rainstorm yesterday afternoon that continued quite a long time with the possibility of the same this afternoon.  After a very busy week looking forward to a quieter weekend.  I think I will go to a meeting this morning and we will go too church tomorrow and that should about be it for the weekend.

Janet, do you think the drought cycle has been broken for where you live.  Hope you slept well last night to prepare for your weekend trip to the wedding.

Hello everyone, I am checking in from Strasburg, PA.  My daughter and I spent Thursday taking in the sites in DC, but for some reason my back and knees were killing me.  I am not in great shape, but should have been able to handle the walking better than that.  But later that evening the cause of the aches and pains became more evident, as the flu attacked me with a vengeance the entire night!  After getting a late check-out from the hotel, it was all I could to do to muster the energy to drive us to Philadelphia.  If I was alone, I would have just holed up in a motel room all day, but we had plans to see some historic sites in Philly, so made the trip.  Today we did a little sightseeing, and are now enjoying the slower, peaceful pace of Strasburg.  My biggest concern at this point is that Leah can avoid, or at least postpone, getting my bug.  She has an audition with a biblical music theatre group here on Monday, which is the point of this trip, and I pray that she can stay healthy.

Here is one of very few shots I took today in Strasburg.

Hi everyone on this day that the Lord has made.  It is cloudy again here and we had heavy storms in our area late last evening.  Our power was off for a couple of hours.  Chance of more showers again today.  Pat and I did something different this morning and went out to breakfast.  We will not go out to lunch with the group today after church.

Ken, not fun to get the flu while traveling.  I bet you will be glad to get back home.  Best wishes for your daughter on her audition.

Hello everyone!  We are back home again.  We were hoping to make it in time to attend church this morning, but got here just as church was getting out. It is a bit over three hours to Great Bend from here, and we stopped once to fill the car with gas.   Pastor had said he had some exciting news for us and we wanted to hear it, but I'm sure we will hear it tonight (this evening, rather) when we attend our small group meeting.

The weather was hot, but not too windy, and the wedding was beautiful.  We went to the reception/dinner/dance which was held in a convention center, but left after the "grand March" just at the beginning of the dance.  Darrel nor I had slept much the night before and we were very tired.  And Pat didn't mind leaving, either, so we left.

I took an over-the-counter sleep aid and slept soundly, even in the very uncomfortable bed at the motel, so I am feeling much better.  I can take that sort of thing occasionally, but if I take them very often, they start working in reverse and keeping me "wired" all night.

All is well here, except we had a big invasion of tiny ants into the kitchen, had to spray those nasty little critters again!

Ken, I hope you are feeling much better and that Leah didn't get the flu bug, and wish her great success with her audition!

Hi, friends,

It's time to check in again! I've had a relatively quiet few days. My back pain returned, so have been in bed with legs elevated lots of the time.

It seems much better today, thanks to our Lord's care.

Marilyn I agree with Janet - I was SOOOO grateful to have the cataract surgery. What a difference it made in my life. And, I was only off from work 1/2 day the second surgery, and 1 1/2 days the first surgery. How wonderfully beautiful the bright colors seemed to me!

Y'all hang in there, and I'll be checking back in.

Good Sunday to all, we had a very good sermon today, per usual.  Most of them speak without any notes and they stay on point so it always a treat.  (Remembering a pastor who got off track every Sunday  :D).

Larry:  good news about your DIL gaining weight.  Yes, the Missouri Quilt site is really nice to turn to and especially clear on the iPad.  I am with Pat on handling smaller quilts - just one more large one to go and perhaps one for our bed if I ever get roundtoit.  It would be nice to have a pre-cut quilt kit for a change.  Nothing makes me more nervous than using the rotary cutter --- measure many times before cutting.  Super concentration at that point!

I downloaded a free book from Amazon called, " Living the Lord's Prayer" by David Timms.  It may only be free today - I get an email alerting me to books for the iPad.

Yes, to cataract surgery.  It is such a fast recovery.

The calendar says it's August 10.  But it feels like September 10.   Even the weather reports say these temperatures are normal for September, not August.  And of course there is a little color starting.  Not much yet, but once it starts it usually doesn't take long until we're into autumn.    :(  On the plus side, nights are great for sleeping, with windows open and curtains blowing.
