Morning Devotional...

The Spit of the Soldiers

The whipping was the first deed of the soldiers.

The crucifixion was the third. (No, I didn't skip the second. We'll get to that in a moment.) Though his back was ribboned with wounds, the soldiers loaded the crossbeam on Jesus' shoulders and marched him to the Place of a Skull and executed him.

We don't fault the soldiers for these two actions. After all, they were just following orders. But what's hard to understand is what they did in between. Here is Matthew's description:

Jesus was beaten with whips and handed over to the soldiers to be crucified. The governor's soldiers took Jesus into the governor's palace, and they all gathered around him. They took off his clothes and put a red robe on him. Using thorny branches, they made a crown, put it on his head, and put a stick in his right hand. Then the soldiers bowed before Jesus and made fun of him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" They spat on Jesus. Then they took his stick and began to beat him on the head. After they finished, the soldiers took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified. (Matt. 27:26–31 NCV)

The soldiers' assignment was simple: Take the Nazarene to the hill and kill him. But they had another idea. They wanted to have some fun first. Strong, rested, armed soldiers encircled an exhausted, nearly dead, Galilean carpenter and beat up on him. The scourging was commanded. The crucifixion was ordered. But who would draw pleasure out of spitting on a half-dead man?

Spitting isn't intended to hurt the body—it can't. Spitting is intended to degrade the soul, and it does. What were the soldiers doing? Were they not elevating themselves at the expense of another? They felt big by making Christ look small.

Allow the spit of the soldiers to symbolize the filth in our hearts. And then observe what Jesus does with our filth. He carries it to the cross.

Through the prophet he said, "I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting" (Isa. 50:6 NIV). Mingled with his blood and sweat was the essence of our sin.

God could have deemed otherwise. In God's plan, Jesus was offered wine for his throat, so why not a towel for his face? Simon carried the cross of Jesus, but he didn't mop the cheek of Jesus. Angels were a prayer away. Couldn't they have taken the spittle away?

They could have, but Jesus never commanded them to. For some reason, the One who chose the nails also chose the saliva. Along with the spear and the sponge of man, he bore the spit of man.

The sinless One took on the face of a sinner so that we sinners could take on the face of a saint.

Cleanse Me (http://christianphotographers.com/sounds/now.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Search me, O God, and know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts I pray.
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from ev'ry sin and set me free.

I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy Word and make me pure within.
Fill me with fire where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name.

Lord, take my life and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine.
Take all my will, my passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord--in me abide.

O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival--start the work in me.
Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead.

Hi everyone.  Slept in a bit this morning but am now ready and plan on going to church later this morning.  This will be the first time for two or three weeks.  Pat had a good nights sleep without pain medication so think that is a good sign.  She just needs to regain some strength as doing anything really wears her out.  Nothing else on the schedule for today.

Janet, I have a good friend who has Macular Degeneration and has been able to hold it in abeyance using the special vitamins.  Hope they will have the same result for you.  A seven hour wait for a two minute procedure does seem extreme.  Was part of the waiting needed after the procedure or all of it before the procedure to have your turn?

Carol, I was alarmed to read that Don climbed on the ladder.  Sure glad there was no fall.  I think holding the ladder is more to prevent it from sliding than being able to protect the person on it.

Marilyn, condolences on the loss of your best friend Kitty.  It is hard to give up friends.

Etta Sue, sounds like you really overdid your painting back in 2001 and have paid a high price for it.  Hope the eye doctor can be of help on Wednesday as sure that is very nagging.

Judy, glad you were able to post.  I didn't realize you had experienced a lightning hit as thought your computer had just quit working.  Glad you have an alternative method of communication with the Blackberry.

Jeanne, thanks for the devotional thoughts for this week. The account of the treatment of Jesus is certainly a tough one to read but reminds us of the sacrifice he made on our behalf.

Thanks, Jeanne Lee, for the devotion. As Larry said, it is difficult to read, but really gives a good visual of what it must seem like to Christ when we sin...even today.

Marilyn:  So sorry about the way you learned of Kitty's  death - it is sad to lose a friend.

Larry:  Neither of us take the ladder without trepidation and we sure do not want to call our closest son as he does enough climbing.  We are careful and I can't stand height anyway.  Gives me the heeby jeebies.

Don found this site:   www.earlychristianwritings.com as he became interested after today's sermon.  We have read some of this previously - just don't know what to think about it.  The phone call just as we got in the door was from a grandson who wants to bring over his girlfriend so we can meet her.  So, I made a batch of snickerdoodle cookies for their visit.

Jeanne:  Thank you for devotions and all you do for CP.

A neighbor/friend came to sit next to me during the service and she fell asleep almost half the time during the service and it is all the fault of the pain pills she takes just to sit in church.  Her back is always hurting.  Then, she weaved quite a lot while walking out and I noticed her balance is getting worse.  She is widowed and not that old but we are really concerned about her living alone.

Judy:  I meant to mention that I have started knitting another sweater of the pattern I sent to you.  Gosh, it does take me forever but it will be finished some year.  This one has wool from Nova Scotia so it is really lovely yarn.  A yarn shop went out of business.

Good devotional today, sad, but a good reminder of Jesus' love for us.  Thanks, Jeanne.

Larry, the waiting was all beforehand, only had to stay about five minutes after the procedure.  That place was a madhouse!

And that reminds me,I must go put the drops in my eye!  I forgot them this morning!

Back after I have a little nap......zzzzzzzzzzz

What a difference a day makes!  (sound like a song?)  Yesterday was hot and humid with several series of thunderstorms, high winds and heavy rain, just too sticky feeling to do anything.  Now this morning it's crystal clear, low humidity and not expected to get much above 80!   :thumbsup:

 Hi everyone.  Back from coffee and making a bite of breakfast for Pat as she is very weary again this morning.  She is concerned her fibromyalgia is coming back in full force as she has been taking aspirin and that blocks the effects of the guifenisen that she normally takes to help kept it under control.  I sure hope she is wrong.  We had a little rain early, and I emphasize little.  Today is the first day of school in our county and they are have an enrollment of around 163,000 students in the county school system.  It is a multi-billion dollar a year operation.  Monday's are my busy day as have my men's luncheon and then a meeting in the evening I want to attend.

Jeanne, the low humidity days are really enjoyable.

Ruth Ann, Welcome back.  I missed you.

Janet, I find it hard to believe it was necessary to have to sit there seven hours.  They must schedule everyone for the same time and then just let people wait.  Sounds like a poorly managed office.

Carol, it is sad to see our friends and neighbors decline in health.  I usually sit next to a man at church we have known and once made a trip to Kentucky with he and his wife, who is now well into dementia.  He is still a very nice person but wants to talk all the time during the service and needs direction as no longer realizes what is going on around him.  His daughter is now coming and sitting with him as his wife sings in the choir.  I am happy to be able to fill the roll of helping him when she is not there.  It sounds like it won't be too many year before you have a new generation of your family if your grandson is introducing his girl friend to you.

Hi Ken.

Yes, indeed...what a difference a day makes, in so many ways!  Last evening I was taking my friends (the wife who is on dialysis and not doing well) to a church meeting in Hugoton.  There is a man speaking there who operates in the supernatural, long story, but so exciting!  Anyway, I was involved in an accident, a "cow taxi"  (semi-truck with cattle trailer) sideswiped me.  Took off my driver's side mirror, totally ruined one of the brand new $200 tires we jut put on, bashed in the front quarter panel and ruined the bumper.  Darrel has gone to Hugoton to pick the car up, as the front suspension seemed so messed up I couldn't drive it home.  My friend and my son-in-law put the donut type tire on it, but it shimmied and shook terribly if I got over 10 MPH.  Sigh.....  The devil will steal from you any way he can!  Darrel drove down in our other car and picked us up.

BUT----our God is greater!  Even though we were very late to church because of the accident and the time the Sheriff took with his paperwork, we got there for the last part, and Paula got to be prayed for, and believes she received something special!  We will go again tonight, taking Beth along.  We refuse to let the devil defeat us!!

Welcome back, Ruth Ann, we missed you!

I must get busy, extra things to do today.

It is hot and Don has begun painting the 2nd. half of the garage floor this morning.  I see he has the fishing rods set aside for us - we are going fishing later this week with the entire family.  Other people take cruises and have parties for their 50th - we have been celebrating all year and doing lots more with the family.  My kind of celebration.  I must run to the store to get more baking supplies for making biscotti , cookies and such although everyone watches what they eat they do like a treat after hiking and all.

Larry:   I doubt my grands would marry early as they are bent on more schooling but one never knows.  She wants to major in math.  It took me a long time to find my guy and  not in high school.  Enjoy the men's luncheon.  I think I missed my mother most of all when she had dementia and there were so many things I wanted to talk about and after she died, I still mourned the loss of those wasted years with more than a few angry moments of the dreadful disease.  Long walks helped.

Sometimes it seems that some of those semi drivers take their half of the road out of the center!!  That would be scary to be side-swiped by a semi!  Ouch!~

Busy again today.  I have already mowed the grass and finished my second cup of coffee.  Now to head to the utility room!  My utility room is almost as large as my living room.  Mom was a seamstress so the sewing machine was always open and she was a kitchen beautician and always had her hair cutting tools handy.  So it has a cabinet with a large sink in it and washing machine and dryer on one wall.  The opposite wall has cabinets table top high to the ceiling and under them is my desktop and a long table.  The AC/heat pump is on that wall, too.  One end of the room is a closet that was for outdoor clothes...when they still milked cows...but now has shelves in it and wonderful for storage...big items like crockpot, picnic baskets, coolers, cat litter and cat food!  There are three doors but a lot of floor space.  I like that room...it is bright and sunny...to the south!

Oh, well.  I am chattering ....or maybe just spacing out so I don't have to get in there and start cleaning... ::) :roflBig:  I best get busy.  Tonight is church council and the rest of the week is busy so no time for cleaning!!

Hi, friends, well, it's nearly midnight in some areas where our CP members live. :)

Today has been one filled with a conference call, then helping a friend with transportation and she, in turn, fed me lunch at Cracker Barrel (yummy plate of veggies), then to grocery, and my son's home (but he's getting sick so I didn't linger long).

Now, it's time to "rest my eyes" until morning, then choose a song to sing for our Devotional period downstairs where I often play piano. When I play, they expect me to sing a solo, as well.

Well, y'all have a great rest, then a wonderful day when you awaken. :)

Please pray for our new church that we want to build.  We are not giving up but we do want to do what God's will is.  It seems all the permits are granted except one...the drainage permit by the county commissioner.  The last meeting he said he was not going to budge...either a 3-acre pond or 8000 feet pipe for drainage.  3-acre is 3 times more than where I live!!  And he didn't say how large of a pipe!  We think that this commissioner wants us to solve the water problem of drainage in Clarksville...a little town maybe 4 blocks long and two blocks wide!  Which there isn't a water standing problem now but it isn't up to 'code' so we are, in a sense, a developer and he wants to sock it to this developer.  So if you would all help me pray for a solution to this problem and in God's will, please feel free to do so.

The utility room is done!!  I rewarded myself with bacon, tomato and mayo sandwich last evening!  It feels so good to have a clean house.

Today Ivalou and I are going out to eat.  Then I am taking her to the salon...then myself to the pool.  Then back to the salon for my haircut and hopefully by then, Ivalou will be about done with her perm!

Janet, our Father surely had His protection around you.   Praise God that no one was injured.  It's a lot easier to fix a car than a person.  How wonderful that, even though you arrived late, Paula received prayers and "something special".  Maybe tonight will be even more promising.

Etta Sue, it sounds as the that commissioner has a bone to pick with someone and is taking it out on your church.  But we know that even if it is the devil driving that poor man, the Lord's Will will be done.

Hi everyone.  We have an overcast day and it is to just be in the 80s with a 60 percent chance of rain today.  Just have an activity this morning and then the rest of the day is free.  I will have to figure out something for dinner tonight with Pat's help.  I felt better yesterday than I have for a couple of weeks and sure hope that continues.

Janet, alarmed to hear of your car accident and certainly hope none of you were hurt beyond the shock of the accident.  Cars are only metal and have no feelings. The devil worked hard to keep you from getting to that church service and most folks probably would have just returned home.  Was this a hit and run accident or did the truck stop?

I have forgotten but it sounds like this was your 50th wedding anniversary also.  Pat and I have yet to do a thing to celebrate ours but hope to be up to doing something later in the year.  Having lost my mother due to the effects of dementia I can relate to your feeling of anger at the disease.  We currently have two good friends who are in various stages of dementia and it is so hard to see the disease progress over a period of time.

Etta Sue, loved your description of your utility room and storage area.  We have shelves across the front of our garage where we store large appliances and things we seldom use.  You can never have too much storage.  Hope your church is able to work out the drainage problem and get that final permit.  Sure hope you all are not forced to go to court to resolve the issue.

Ruth Ann, has your son now moved into the house where you used to live?  We always enjoy eating at the Cracker Barrel but they always seem to be so busy.  I am glad you are still strong enough to sing.

Good morning Jeanne.

We like to stop for breakfast at Cracker Barrel when traveling.  A Marie Callendar's just went out of business after many years here - blame the economy because it was being used by groups a lot but their expenses just kept on going up and up and fewer customers.  So sad.

Don says this is his last day of painting garage walls, floor and door to the house.  He tells me to burn his clothes but that cannot be done - to the trash though.  Our neighbors have been curious about painting a garage inside and they are having a good laugh at Don's clothes.  They will miss seeing him out there in the garage.  He has a workshop in the basement so that is where he goes for his hobbies.

Larry:  Yes, it will be our 50th.  Can't believe it and we are so fortunate to celebrate.  My parents had 35 years and Don's parents only had 25 years.  Yes, you do need to plan something for your 50th.  It is a big thing anymore and look at what you have come through!

Our insurance gal said the estimate on the car is $3000.  I was expecting more.  She said they told her the car is NOT driveable-- and it surely isn't!

I have been to the chirppractor and the eye doctor.  The laser procedure, while giving me a clear "window" through which to see, unfortunately did not improve my vision in the left eye.  I am getting new glasses, to the tune of $500+  Ouch.

Now it's time to meet a  friend and go to Dodge for a Christian Women's Club meeting.

See you tomorrow!  Probably later, though as have to be at the Home at 7:15 to go to Garden with her to sign papers for the endoscopy they will be doing.

Janet I suspect you were in the drivers blind spot and couldn't see you.......not excusing him, just know from personal experience that there are HUGE blind spots on semi's.

I am at Heather's for the evening. thus the internet.

John's dispatcher is back off holidays, and John is back to low miles....this is getting sooo frustrating.

Have a great day folks!

He Lives  (http://www.christianphotographers.com/sounds/he-lives.mid)
(Click to hear music)

Words & Music: Alfred H. Ackley, 1887-

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.

Refrain
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.

Refrain

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find,
None other is so loving so good and king.

Refrain

HYMN HISTORY:

Rev. Alfred Ackey (1887-1960) was preaching during an evangelistic crusade. After the service he was trying to persuade a young man to give his heart to Christ, when the man said, "Why should I worship a dead Jew?" Ackey stated, "HE LIVES! I tell you, He is not dead, but lives here and now! Jesus Christ is more alive today than ever before. I can prove it by my own experience, as well as the testimony of countless thousands." Later that evening the young man gave his heart to Christ. It was during this experience that Ackey wrote not only the words but also the tune for our hymn, "He Lives."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living, whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him He's always near.
In all the world round me I see His loving care, And tho my heart grows weary I never will despair;
I know that He is leading thru all the stormy blast,
The day of His appearing will come at last.
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.
Yes, Larry, he's living out there and slowly getting work done on the house. I truly hope the job with the Air Force he applied for will come through for him. How great that would be!
Judy, what a blessing to hear that hymn again.
Well, tomorrow's an EARLY morning for me. Now, where's that "I don't do mornings" cartoon Pat used occasionally!??
Today was certainly busy - the Devotional Time downstairs, a bit of food and then an hour of rest, took an elderly friend to the doctor (which ended up being a 4-hour marathon), got Smart Cards for my son and me (the Smart Cards work all year long and the discounts more than pay for the low cost of the Card), purchased a tankful of gasoline, took the lady home, noticed my son had sent a text during the time the phone was turned off, went to meet him, forgot and lost my cell phone at the restroom in the facility where we met (fortunately, no one had been in there, so when I found it, it was "patiently sitting there waiting for me to return"), then returned here and cooked a bit of dinner.
WHEW!! Busy day, lotsa miles on little Josie and me, and now, tomorrow's another day. :)
May our Lord richly bless each of you and your extended families is my fervent prayer tonight.
Hi everyone.  We had no rain yesterday although other parts of our area did have some heavy downpours.  This is going to be a full morning as once coffee is over I will head to the Hyundai dealer to have my 30,000 maintenance done.  They have a courtesy van and I will have them take me over to Kaiser as have a doctors appointment this morning and have to have another blood test done for check my PSA count.  I will then call the courtesy van and they will pick me up and I will then pick up my car or wait until it is finished at the dealers.  Since I had to go for this appointment and also needed to get the maintenance done I decided this would be a good use of my time rather than make a separate trip and spend all that time sitting at the dealers.  That will be enough for one day.
Carol, during a span of 50 years we do come through a lot, some of which is pleasant to remember and some of which I try not to think of very often.  However, it just proves that even during the darkest of times there will be a sunny day ahead.  Glad Don is finishing up his painting.
Janet, are they going to total your car or fix it.  Wow, those are expensive glasses.  Sure hope they help your vision.
Judy, does the dispatcher have favorites who get the miles that John would normally get?
Ruth Ann, I will be pulling for your son to get the Air Foce job.   What is a smart card?  Is it like a discount card?  Sure glad you found your cell phone.  You sure did have a busy day.
Don is off to the VA for a check on a spot on the top of his head.  I just returned from a refreshing walk and now getting ready to bake chocolate chip bars.  It is just glorious to have windows open all night and into the morning.
Larry:  that is good use of your time to combine your Must Do list.  Don is glad to have the project finished as well.  He has thrown the awful clothes out.  They were ragged anyway - we keep some old clothes for those chores.  We took a load of things to Salvation Army yesterday and stopped to share a hamburger.  It had bleu cheese and bacon on it so a half was more than enough food.
Janet:  How are you doing with the new glasses?
Ruth Ann:  Sending up a prayer for your son & the job possibility.  Is the smart card the one that can be scanned by just passing it over the machine?  Glad that you found your cell phone so quickly - another thanks be!
I took Ivalou to the eye doctor today.  I talked to Dr. Miller about my left eye.  After describing what I feel, he said that sounds like dry eye and that I need eye drops or artificial tears.  Funny, I called the office a month ago and told the receptionist what my eye was like.  She called back later and said Dr. Miller said he would have to see me.
Anyway, it seems that Ivalou has a bruised right eye.  Blood has formed in that eye.  She takes coumadin.  She barely bumps her arm and a big blood bruise will come on her arm but she said she hasn't hit her eye.  He said it didn't have to be hit to be bruised.  So now the 17th she goes to a specialist and they may lazer her eye.  She will need new glasses but not until after she sees the specialist.  Like she says...Always something!
We ate lunch at Steak and Shake and then back to Walmart to do some grocery shopping.
FROGGS looks like it will be a wiener roast without the roast!  We are still under an open fire ban.  I thought maybe we could put charcoal in the fire pit instead of wood...charcoal doesn't spark but our Fire Department Chief says the ban says charcoal grills are allowed...not just charcoal.  So I didn't even call Kaye Don to see if charcoal in the pit would be okay since he didn't opt to take a chance on a wood fire and getting a warning.  Counties are lifting the ban but not my country...same county as where the guys won't okay permits for new buildings!!
Tomorrow is my class lunch.  Then I want to go to Lowe's and see if I can get a new umbrella for my bistro table outside!
Just home from Garden City.  Beth had the EGD and everything is fine, nothing abnormal at all, all the way into her duodenum.  She does have fungus condition in her mouth that also showed up in the duodenum, so was given a prescription for an anti-fungal mouthwash, which she will swish around and then swallow.  Said it will take a month or longer to clear that up, but they think that might be the reason she is having trouble talking, as it causes extreme dry mouth.  She tolerated the procedure well, and was ready to go eat as soon as she was awake!
Larry, they will repair the car.  I had a call from the adjuster today and she said the estimate is $4600+ so they must have found more wrong with the front end suspension than they first thought.
I had very little sleep last night so am really sleepy now.  Maybe a little nap won't keep me from sleeping tonight---I hope!
Etta Sue, I never heard of a bruised eye, sounds painful.  I hope your sister gets over that quickly!
Carol, my new glasses won't arrive for at least a week.  I look forward to getting them, and then I really hope I won't be costing us any money for a long time!
Glad Don got the painting job done, am sure that's a relief!  Way too hot here to be painting outdoors other than very early in the morning!
I got calls from two area Rotary clubs yesterday inviting me to speak for them, so that's a blessing.
Now I think I will do as Ruth Ann says and 'rest my eyes' for a little while!
Hello everyone, janet I am sorry about your car but thanking God that you were not hurt.
More sad news today. Will'a Son in law passed away early this morning and John Gilbert's FIL is in the hospital after seizing all night long he is not expected to make it out this time. Both Sarah, and her sister Erin are with Ann at the hospital and Gilbert is taking Savannah for her Dr appointments today then they will go there too. So it is not a happy day around here today.
A lot happens on here in a few days absence!!
Janet, I am sooo thankful that our Lord was watching out for you on your trip to church...and that He is greater than the ruler of the world.
Etta Sue, I will definitely pray for the establishment of your new church.  Though we are the church, it is definitely a wonderful thing to have a building to meet in.
Carol, sounds like your garage is coming along. I remember being absolutely astounded at the size of it!!!
Larry, I am still praying for Pat.  I am so glad that you are willing to sit with this friend who is not quite all there.  He is still a child of God who needs to hear His Word, and fellowship with his church family.
My news is that I will be able to go on vacation next week, and will be paid my vacation pay for that week.  I had quite a chat with my supervisor this morning, and we were able to iron things out without my union steward getting involved.  Praise the Lord, for He is mighty, powerful, and in control!!!
I forgot to share that I am on the mend.  Still having a bit of difficulty walking, but the discomfort is almost nonexistent, and the swelling is gone!!
What great messages today.
Well, Janet, my eyes rested this afternoon. I think I had had such a busy day yesterday that after taking the lady to her early morning examination, I simply came home and made the decision to rest this afternoon.
Thank you for supporting my son in his job search. May it be fruitful is my prayer. And it would be wonderful if God would make it possible for him to attend worship. He's been attending faithfully since he returned to the States, and seems to be make spiritual gains. So attendance at worship would be such a blessing for him and also for me. :)
Now, after a nice meal at church and then a great time of worship (we old folks gather in a small chapel to have a "traditional" service with all the old hymns from the hymnal) and nice talks with several friends there, it's time to be "the maid service."
I had the bug man come by - you know how it is living in a large apartment building - so now's time to go in there, roll up my sleeves, put on the rubber gloves and give my kitchen some loving.  :crazy:
Much love to all,
Ruth Ann
Ruth Ann, so good to hear such encouraging things from down South where you live!  May God help your son quickly find just the right job for him.
I had a good night's rest last night, got up early and cleaned my kitchen, watched Joseph Prince, then went out for a 30 minute walk in the cool of the morning.  Now I must get ready and go over to Pat's for a haircut and "do."  Later I will go to the care home to interview the next person for the series I am doing for the paper, and to attend Beth's care plan meeting.  I'm not sure what's on deck for the rest of the day, but God knows!
I feel so good that Beth finally got a good report yesterday!!  Thank you, God!  And we are expecting each report from now on to get better and better and better!
Hi, it's time to head on out to the knee surgeon for my annual checkup. It's really amazing how that one replacement surgery has made such a difference in both my knees.
Y'all have a wonderful day with our Lord.
We had storms last night!  It is a lot cooler today.  Cloudy today and perhaps more rain.  Bring it on!  We certainly need it!
Today is my Class Lunch.  Kitty is hoping to be here and go with me.  I want to go to Lowe's afterwards to see about a new umbrella for the bistro.  I have thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside under the umbrella this year!
It seems that another America's Most Wanted has been found.  This man was featured on TV on that show.  It isn't positive since it will take up to two months to check out fingerprints and DNA but this is what there is so far.
Roy Parmley  (http://heraldbulletin.com/crime/x1962242300/Clothing-hair-guns-indicate-body-is-Roy-Parmley).  The murder, his home and where his body was found is all within 5 miles from my home!   >:(
Hi everyone.  We had a lovely rain last evening which was most appreciated.  It is sunny today and the humidity was lower this morning when I left coffee.  My activities of yesterday seem to have left me drained today and Pat is also feeling very tired, as she has been for several days.  We wrote to the doctor last night asking for a blood test (which has now been ordered) to see if she might be anemic.  Sure glad we have nothing on the schedule for today, although need to go so she can have the blood test done and will perhaps do that later this afternoon.  A good friend just came with a lovely meal for us a  little while ago, which is most appreciated.  We will certainly have more than one meal as it was a large pan of homemade lasanga, loaf of homemade bread, salad, a pie and banana nut bread. Another friend is bringing over another meal tomorrow afternoon.  I just watched a very interesting video related to Queen Elizabeth that some of you might enjoy.  Here is the link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8nJhG1xE5o&feature=em-share_video_user
I have read all the postings since yesterday but just not up to responding today.
I've been away, but have read the latest posts and am praying regarding requests, etc.. It sounds like it's been a busy time for everyone, and things aren't the easiest for everyone. I'm glad that we can take our problems to the Lord and know that He is there for us.
Marilyn, I've read your post and am praying. It sounds like it's very difficult right now.
Our kids arranged for all of us to go camping for a few days to celebrate our 60th birthdays and our retirements. We had 4 campsites - 2 tents, 2 trailers, 7 adults and 6 children ranging in age from 1 to 9. It was a very busy time, but extremely enjoyable. Now they would like to make this an annual event. On the way home our DIL discovered a tick, so they ended up in the hospital to have it removed. This meant that everyone looked for ticks (we're not used to looking for them). Our daughter took her two kids last night to get checked (nothing showed up), and today our other daughter took her son to the Dr. to have a spot checked. And ... to top it all off, our son and DIL checked one of their sons this morning and it looks like he has chicken pox. Great way to end a holiday ... but they still want to do it again:)
We have rain today and the temperature has come down.
Tomorrow we go to my Dad's - my niece is getting married in Sundridge on Saturday, and I am doing the photos for the wedding, so I've been busy getting ready for that. I'm praying that it isn't raining that day.
Yes, Marilyn, I did read about the two relatives who are ill.  So sorry.  It seems we are all dealing with an undue amount of problems this summer.
I called my friends and had them come over so I could cut his hair and give them the deviled eggs I made for them.  Her dialysis nurse told her that deviled eggs are one of the best things for her to eat, and she really has trouble getting enough protein.
I am leaving early in the morning for a two day painting event in Newton.  Going with  friends, so it will be fun!
Also got an email that Beth's good friend from Fargo, N. Dakota is coming for Beth's birthday.  It's to be a surprise, so Beth will be SO happy to see Becki.
Larry, sure hope both you and Pat will feel stronger tomorrow.  Do take care of yourselves--am happy friends brought you  food.  That is a blessing!
Please forgive me, Marilyn, for not noticing your post re the death, and impending death, in your family.
Guess there is some truth in the idea that sometimes we are so caught up in our own situation(s) that we miss the needs of others.
Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.
Hi everyone.  We had another good rainfall with quite a bit of lightning and thunder late yesterday afternoon.  Pat did get her blood test done yesterday and hopefully will hear from the doctor today as she got the results via e-mail last evening.  She starts her outpatient physical therapy today for probably the next three weeks.  We had a delicious meal last evening that our friend had brought to us yesterday. It was homemade lasagna, homemade whole wheat bread, a spinach salad with strawberry dressing and almonds and a pecan pie.  Except for the salad we have enough left over for two more meals.  There is also a loaf of banana nut bread we haven't even unwrapped yet.  I will go to coffee shortly, take Pat to her PT and that should be it for today.
Marilyn, I certainly did read your post but just didn't have the energy to write much yesterday.  Life certainly has its ups and downs and obviously this is a very down time for you and members of you family.
Betty, the camping trip sounds like a wonderful and memorable family experience.  Ticks are frightening anymore with the Lyme disease.
Janet, hope you have a wonderful and restful painting event today and tomorrow.  So nice that Beth's friend will be with Beth on her 50th birthday as know that will make it very special.  Will John be there as well?
We had 17 at our class lunch yesterday.  Nice bunch of people.  Good food and great conversation.  Kitty went with me but Bob was taking a man to the hospital for chemo treatment.
Kitty wanted to go to the fabric shop just two doors from the lunch.  Her sister has dementia and she is going to make a Fidget Quilt.  Actually it is an apron that the neck strap fastens with velcro and the rest of the apron is different types of fabrics...some soft, some harsh, etc and then you sew on things like shoe laces with beads on them, a keyring with keys on it, a pocket for a handkerchief, big buttons, etc.  Sounds like a great idea.
Then I wanted to go to Lowe's and get a new umbrella for my bistro.  I did.
This morning after a nice storm last night, my bistro/umbrella was tipped over.  I went out and up-righted it and raised the umbrella so it would dry out.  Ivalou came over.  We heard a thud but thought it was a truck that went past the house.  But when she left, my umbrella was out of the stand and out on my drive!!  I thought I had it screwed to the stand.  It is now!
I have done piddly things today to get ready for FROGGS tomorrow.  I chopped an onions, went to Dollar General for condiments, made some Peanut Butter Fudge, made a list of what to take to the woods at 5pm tomorrow!
Also changed the bed today, did a load of laundry and the bed skirt on the daybed now has split corners!!
Now it is time to rest!
I'm so sorry to learn of the losses, Marilyn. Today a lady in the waiting area where we went while our cars were being assessed for repair opened up about several deaths of brother, father, sister in law, and niece, and she was absolutey distraught. I'll be praying for her as well as your family.
Well, little Josie car stayed "in the hospital" for air conditioner compressor replacement, so I'm now driving a rental fire engine red 2012 Ford Fiesta that almost seems to run itself! ;) I surely do hopt no hail storms come up over the weekend! Thanks to God that I purchased the warranty extension. The cost will be low, since my deductible is $50, and there will be no additional charges for auto rental.
Also did quite a bit of laundry before the car repair appointment, so tonight I'm really tired and verrrrry sleepy.
G'nite, all! May God grant peace, rest, and health this day is my prayer.
Hi everyone.  We had another good rain last evening and it is overcast this morning.  A couple from our church came over yesterday afternoon and brought us a delicious roast beef, green beens, carrots and mashed potato plus rolls and a cookies for desert.  It was very good and there was enough for another meal.  They also stayed and visited with us for probably the better part of an hour, which was enjoyable because we really didn't know them very well before.  Another friend is bringing a meal this evening so we are truly blessed.  After Pat's PT yesterday I asked her if she was up to stopping at Chili's for lunch and she said she wanted to.  However, by the time we left she was really tired.  We came home and rested most of the afternoon and then went to bed a little after 8 pm last evening and each watched something on the Kindle and iPad.  I went to coffee this morning but will stay in the rest of the day as just not up to getting out anymore today.
Etta Sue, glad your new umbrella didn't fly away.  Hope you have a nice evening for your family get together.  I have never heard of a fidget quilt.
Marilyn, I didn't realize John was so young.  It will be hard on your grandchildren to lose their grandfather as they are of the age to understand what has happened.
Ruth Ann, glad you have the extended warranty on your car.  Don't become too attached to that red Ford Fiesta.  :)
Al, as always good to see you posting.
Marilyn, sorry about the loss of two of your friends this week.  Fifty-five is mighty young.  I will pray for comfort for John's family and that they feel the arms of Jesus wrapped around them.
I am running behind today.  I remembered Photo Guild was Monday night so processed 4 photos to upload on their website.  I need to get busy.
I did make some Peanut Butter Fudge yesterday for the event back in the woods...and need to make the Sausage Balls.  The Open Fire Ban is still on in my county so we are having no fire this year!  It will still be lots of fun!
Gotta go!!!!
I am home after a very enjoyable couple of days painting with my friends.  Nice, relaxing getaway!
Marilyn, sorry about your bad news, as has been stated 55 is terribly young.  I pray there is someone in their lives to lead Savannah and her brother to Jesus, who is our comforter.
I am trying to type with foil on my fingers (some of them) as I am soaking off the gelish nail polish.  So I will come back when  I get that done!
What was a very happy occasion turned into a sad one last evening at FROGGS.  My Lapel Fire Chief nephew came back to tell us that Kaye Don's daughter, Lezlie, went to a wedding and when she got home, her husband, Don, was dead.  He had been cutting wood for winter.  They live in Michigan.  Don was only 51 years old....apparently a heart attack.
They have three children...David is in the Marines in North Carolina with wife, Lindsay.  Steve is in the Air Force with wife, Veronica.  Ivery is still home and will be 16 in September.  It will be and is so hard on all of us.
Tony is just 13 days younger than Don.
I am ready for church.
Hi everyone.  I am sitting on my porch this morning using the iPad and my bluetooth keyboard to write this morning.  It is suppose to be a gorgeous day here with relatively mild temperature and low humidity and it is getting off to a great start.  I can hear the birds singing.  This is the first time all year I have spent any time on the porch as it gets the afternoon sun.  I am not going to try to go to church this morning as I want to conserve my energy.  I spent a good part of the day yesterday laying down.  Our friends, Rod and Betty, brought over another deliious meal for us last night (we are getting spoiled).  It was veal roast with rice, broccoli, homemade cheese bread and a delicious peach and blueberry cobbler.  It was all warm so we had dinner as soon as they left.  Once again there were significant left overs so we are fixed for meals for several days.  I don't have anything planned for today other than watch more on this last day of the Olympics and rest.
Etta Sue, glad your family get together went well.  It is the people and not the conditions that make the day.  Reading your further message says it wasn't a day that went well with that terrible news you received.  So sorry for your family.
Janet, glad you enjoyed your outing with painting friends.  Don't think I ever heard of anyone trying to type with foil on their fingers.  Creates a funny visual.
Marilyn, I know you are concerned about your son and his wife not knowing the Lord.  However, that is a personal decision for each of us and one that others can only pray about.
Larry, happy to read you are conserving your energy, and enjoying the cool of the morning on your porch.  It's very nice and kind of your friends to bring you and Pat meals---that's what friendship is all about!
Etta Sue, sorry your happy FROGGS time was interrupted by bad news.  We must all live ready to go home at any minute!
I wanted to go to Hugoton to church, then spend time with Diane's family this afternoon, but Diane and Abby are the only ones at home, and they are busy, so we went to church here and I will go visit with them another day.  But I did have a good phone visit with Diane.
If any of you would like to read the Treasures From the Legacy stories I am writing, I can either post them here, (if not interested, you can scroll on by) or I can email them to you.  Let me know.  Maybe that isn't something of interest to any of you, I don't know, but thought I would offer.
Our first featured resident of The Legacy is Mary Ella Ward.  Mary Ella was born October 18, 1929, and spent her childhood years on a farm between Johnson and Manter, Kansas.  When she got to high school age, she went to live with an aunt in Oberlin, Kansas, and attended high school there.
Mary Ella remembers her parents taking the family to church from an early age.  Her two older brothers helped with the work of farming—driving tractor, etc., while she and her sister helped their mother with the work in the house and yard.  She stated that she always helped with household chores, cooking, gardening and canning.  She says she always did a lot of cooking!
As a child, Mary Ella loved playing with clay, but it didn't develop into doing sculpture, she just did it for fun.
A special memory of hers is the trips made to Oberlin to visit with aunts, uncles and grandparents.  Sometimes they made this trip by bus.
Mary Ella went to grade school in Johnson, then high school in Oberlin, and later attended college at Kansas State University, where she majored in Home Economics, specializing in Foods.
While attending high school in Oberlin, Mary Ella met the love of her life, her future husband, Virgil Ward.  Virgil also attended K-State, and they married while still students there.  She says their dates mostly consisted of attending movies together, and occasionally a dance.  She told me that in those days, people had much more respect for one another; that they wouldn't have dreamed of living together before marriage.
After college, the couple lived in Oberlin for a while, where her husband lent a hand on the farm when needed.  About 1951, they moved to Ulysses, where Dr. Virgil Ward, as he was by then, set up his practice in Dentistry.  He worked in that practice until his retirement.
When asked what achievement or accomplishment of her life gives her the most satisfaction, Mary Ella said, "Having a good marriage with Virgil, and raising three sons and a daughter to be good people.  My husband was very good about balancing his time between his work and his family."
Some valuable lessons she learned and would like to pass along to our younger readers are:  (1) Taking time to spend helping family reaps big rewards later, and (2) Always take time to listen!
Some advice Mary Ella would like to give those who are younger, that might make their lives better or happier if they were to follow it is:  Be willing to lend a helping hand; and be kind and respectful to your elders, teachers, etc.
Mary Ella and Dr. Virgil Ward raised three sons and one daughter in Ulysses:  Robert, John, Larry and Nancy.  She is very proud of her family, and considers it a blessing to have her children around to help her as she grows older.
When asked what person most inspired her, she answered, "my mother."  And the person she most admired was her Dad, because he did so much for others.
This dear lady stated she would like to see the USA return to trusting God.
The biggest change she has observed during her lifetime is seeing young fathers helping take care of their children, which makes her very happy.
I asked Mary Ella how she would like to be remembered, and after some thought, she answered:
                           As a woman who loved the Lord;
                           As a good wife and mother;
                           As a good cook—and I did a lot of cooking!
But mostly, she said, "Please don't remember all the stupid things I did!
Janet, by all means, please continue with these interviews!  What a great lady Mary Ella Ward must be - and judging by the last line, she certainly maintains a lovely sense of humor!   :D
Thanks so much, girls, I appreciate your comments.  I have the next story ready, will take it and read it to the man today, see if he has thought of anything else he wants to add or change.  Then the lady I want to interview today--she's a real hoot!  93 years young, has lived a very interesting and adventurous life, so I am really looking forward to getting her story down on paper.
When we brought Beth back after church yesterday and took her to the dining room, this lady, Madalyne, sits at Beth's table; so I asked if I may come and interview her today.  She said, "YES!  But I have a lot of hot air!"  I told her that's what I'm looking for--some good stories!
Mary Ella is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's, and couldn't tell me when she was born or where she grew up.  She also said she had two sons, but no daughters.  I had met her daughter when she came to visit Mary Ella, so I decided to call her son, whom I know, and verify some things.  I surely don't want to have them print anything that isn't so!  He was so pleased that I'm doing this, and told me the missing information, also the names of his brothers and sister.  He said it would have been really bad to leave out the sister, as she is the baby of the family!  That's the reason I added the first paragraph before Mary Ella's story.  She is really a sweet lady, and is always delighted when I come in, wants to give me a kiss when I hug her.   :)
I've done quite a bit of work, walked three miles, now I'm ready to get on with my Monday!  First, I will read the portion of the Word for today.
See you later!
Hi everyone.  Looks like it will be another nice day but warmer, up to 90 degrees.  I was rather glad to see the Olympics over, although have enjoyed several hours of the events.  We had to turn the closing program off as it seems to be noise and confusion and a bad sound system.  Guess the music was the type to appeal to the young athletes, not old timers like me.  I hope to take in my normal Monday events if I can keep from becoming too tired.  I did a lot of resting yesterday and quite a bit of reading.
Janet, by all means please continue to share your writings.  Each person's story has something unique.  You have already done a day's work if you have walked three miles and done other work.
Hi to Jeanne, Marilyn, and Ruth Ann plus all those who may stop by later today.
I'm glad the Olympics are  over at last.   It seemed that every time I tried to check what was going on it was one of three things:  swimming, gymnastics or beach volleyball, none of which had any interest for me.  Now maybe we can get back to some regular scheduling.   ;)
Marilyn and Etta Sue, my sympathies for you both over your losses.
Janet ~ Add me to the list to continue your stories on here.  I love Mary Ella!
We just found out this morning when Don's visitation and funeral will be...it was pending due to the boys getting home from the military and perhaps, planning a military funeral.  So Ivalou and I will be leaving at 8am Wednesday morning to be at White Cloud, MI, for the visitation at 5pm-8pm.  Then the Military funeral will be at 11am on Thursday.  We will leave right after the lunch and come back home.
Ivalou has her eye specialist appointment Friday morning.
I called a niece this morning to let her know if anyone would like to ride with us north that we would be leaving at 8am Wednesday.
Since our temperatures have been so high this summer, it feels like fall weather now.  The temps have dropped nearly 20 degrees.  After a nap yesterday afternoon, I mowed the grass, going out at 7pm.  That is the time to mow!!  I didn't even sweat and the temperature was perfect.
The same for FROGGS.  The temperature was perfect and we didn't even have to use bug spray.  I had a pesky fly bothering me for a bit but never heard the buzz of a mosquito once!!
I just know that when I have losses like I have with Don, it brings me closer to God.  Life is here and then it is gone.  Takes me back 21 years when I lost my husband, Bud.
We have been having nicer temps here, too; such a relief!  Darrel and I did not enjoy either the opening nor the closing ceremonies for the Olympics.  Surely a let-down, after the show China put on, huh?
I spent probably two hours interviewing Madalyne, and she really enjoyed it.  She thanked me and said how she loves to talk about her life, but it isn't often anyone wants to listen!  She asked me whose idea this series is, and I said, "Mine", and she really let me know she thinks it's a wonderful idea!  So that made my day!  Now I will type up her story and go back and check with her to see if it needs changes.  Carl wanted a few minor changes, so I got those done.
Al, I really hope all goes well with the driving test this time.  And thanks again for your call the other night, it was nice speaking to you!  And my friend appreciated your suggestions, too!
I am sleepy, so think I'll catch a little nap before typing up Madalyne's story.
Etta Sue:  You are so kind to offer a place for anyone to ride with you to the funeral.  I am sure the relatives there will appreciate your day-long drive.  Reliving your own loss has to be so difficult.  You are strong in faith and that is what will get you through this time.  Hugs.
Janet:  You are turning into our resident biographer!  I don't know how you have the time but you do enjoy the challenge.
Al:  All the best for you regarding the test.  You must have it memorized by now.
Larry:  I see changes in my Don too and although it isn't his heart, he has lung shortages especially when we were over 10,000 plus feet in altitude.  His appetite has diminished too.  Wish mine would.  He is exhausted after driving for several hours and our planned trip to Seattle and the islands in Sept. will be really slower than ever before --- we used to drive straight through.  Never again anything like that idea.    ---- I took a nap too and was wakened by a political phone call.
Hi, friends,
It's early morning here and my eyes are still wide open.  ::)
Maybe the "sandman" will come soon to bring me some real dreams. :)
I was a homebody today, so not much to report.
Y'all have a great day.
I think it's time to get in the "sandbox" so that "sandman" will not miss me. <chuckle>
Love to all, and most of all, honor, worship, and praise to our wonderful Lord,
Ruth Ann
Hi everyone.  The sun is not up yet.  We had a little rain yesterday, but not much.  Our front yard doesn't look very good today as the mower they used yesterday mowed higher on one side than the other.  Fortuantely, the grass will grow and it should be corrected in two weeks.  We had a sad happening at our men's luncheon yesterday as one of the men went to sit down and reached down to pull up his chair to the table.  In so doing he didn't realize that the seat cushion was not anchored and he got his thumb between it and the chair frame and sat down before removing his hand and broke his thumb. He immediately left to go to get emergency care but spoke with him later in the day and he found he hadn't cut off the end of his thumb as he thought but had basically crushed the bone with breaks on the top, bottom and middle of the end of his thumb.  There was a lot of blood including some that spurted on the table from the finger nail bed.  The restaurant cleaned up the blood and changed the table covering and we went ahead with lunch but with not the enjoyment we usually experience.
Just back from coffee at McDonald's and a stop at Kroger's for a few items.  I haven't decided yet whether I will do one other activity today or not but will soon have to make a decision.  The afternoon and evening are clear.
Jeanne, on the satellite NBC was airing Olympics on about 5 or 6 other channel that they own so there was a lot of alternative viewing.  I could also get a lot of the live events on my iPad, including a simulcast of the regular NBC station.  I just read in the paper this morning that the Olympics were the most watched television ever.
Etta Sue, we just never know when our time on this earth will end.  That is a good reason to enjoy each day to the best of our ability and not worry about things  we have no control over.  Hope your trip to Minnesota goes well.  I am sure it will be a sad time this week.
Al, we will be pulling for you on the test and hope the class goes well for you.
Janet, I agree with you and Darrel about the opening and closing ceremony of the Olympics although we watched only the opening portions of both then turned it off.  I bet you Madalyne will not forget your kindness in taking your time to listen to her talk.  It is nice of you to let the folks read what you have written before it is published.
Carol, sorry to hear that Don is experiencing a decline in his health but we just have to face reality and adjust accordingly.   It is really aggravating to get awoken by a political call.  We are not yet seeing many political ads here in Georgia as we are not considered a swing state as apparently your state is.  I will be so glad when this election is over but this is such an important election.
Ruth Ann, hope the sandman found you shortly after you posted so early this morning.
I went to Photo Guild with Kitty last evening.  Each member can submit 4 prints/digital photos to be 'gently critiqued'.  It seems to be the same two 'critiquers' all the time.  They both tend to say what would make the photo 'better' in their minds.  I don't like that.  But I don't have a solution so I won't complain to the President.  But I doubt if I pay my dues in January.  I am getting burnt out on photography!
I got a couple of phone calls while at the meeting...from my g-nephew, Aaron.  So I called him back.  He is going with us to Michigan tomorrow.
Before I went to the pool this morning, I called Ivalou to see if she was going to her class lunch today.  She hadn't thought about it since she didn't feel she should drive.  So I told her I was going to the pool and when I come back, I could take her to her class lunch.  So I got to be with some of her class members and had a nice Chinese buffet also.
Then Ivalou needed some meds at CVS and money from the ATM.  I needed to top my gas tank for our trip north.  Another nephew called Ivalou...the one I called to ask to go with us and had to leave a message...and he is going with us tomorrow also.  So there will be four of us going to Michigan.  I don't know who will be coming back with us!  But at least, there will be three others to keep me awake!
When I got home, I swept out the car with my ShopVac.  Kitty is going to feed my furgirls and get our mail.  I need to pack and get my shower and hope I sleep tonight.  I couldn't sleep last night.  I couldn't remember why I didn't go to the Mexican restaurant for my class lunch in May.  So I got up at 1:30am, looked at CP...it's like a diary, you know...and found out I had eye surgery May 10th...that's why I didn't have Mexican lunch that day!
It was rather cool this morning, cloudy and overcast today.  I am thinking I need to take warmer clothes to Michigan since that is north!
You may have noticed that we are still on Thoughts for the Week of August 5.  Or maybe you didn't notice.   ;)
At any rate, it would have been Pat who posted for August 12, but she is still flying with one wing and is experiencing a lot of pain.  So we decided to just let things stay as they are for this week.  She can use a lot of prayer for the healing of her shoulder and release from the pain of the exercises she has to do.
I have decided to not take my laptop north for only one night.  I will be busy with visiting, visitation and the funeral and coming home right after the funeral.  Will be on the road probably 16 hours out of the next 36 hours...and sleeping some of that, too!
Thanks for all the prayers before I ask for them.   ;)
Hi everyone.  Nothing much to write about today other than Pat having her second outpatient physical therapy appointment at 11:30 this morning.  Nothing else planned for today.  Last evening Pat and I watched the last four episodes of "The Closer".  We sure hate to see that show end.  Fortunately, we could fast forward through the large amount of commercials which shorted the time involved in watching each episode.  We will check out the follow-on program "Major Crimes" as also have it recorded.
Etta Sue, sounds like you will have a car full on your trip to Michigan.  Have a safe trip.
Jeanne, thanks for the update on Pat and her shoulder.  I understand that surgery is really tough in the rehab phase.  Hope the pain will soon subside and she will get the use of her "wing" back.  No problem with the carryover into a second week.  Time goes by so quickly I hadn't even noticed.
I agree with Larry, Jeanne - besides that, I'm just GRATEFUL that we have this wonderful forum to come to.
Well, that sandman forgot his "sand", so sleep only came after 4 am, and the alarm went off at 6:30.  So, I think he left behind heavy weights for my eyelids. I think I feel a nap coming on....
Yawwwwn!
Love to all,
Short naps are high in the grateful category!
My iPad is safe in my hands again.  It just made me sick to think that something so nice could be forgotten - cannot believe that I forgot it at the rental cabin.  So very grateful for honest people.  This was a gift from the family last year on my special birthday and it is just so easy to enjoy.
Sending up a prayer for healing regards to Pat!  This has been a long haul for her.
Does it seem to any of you the way it does to me---that time is being compressed; that the days, weeks, etc. are just flying by at whirlwind speed?  As the old song said, "I just get up and it's time to lay down..."  But we have to keep on praying, keep on giving, keep on going.....and leave it in God's hands!
My first story (Mary Ella Ward) was in today's paper, and they didn't change anything, for which I am so thankful.  They can really mess things up if they try to "improve" on it.  I asked them to make NO changes!
I'm so sorry Pat is having such a time with her shoulder, and the others here are struggling, too.  I am sending up prayers for pain relief, healing, protection, supernatural recall when taking tests, and whatever else is needed.  (The Holy Spirit knows!)
Carol, so glad you got your iPad back!  I have been thinking I would like to have one of those.  Of course, I have been wanting a Kindle for years, then I saw on TV where they were giving hundreds of them to "underprivileged" elementary school kids!  :o
I need to make some phone calls, then will go to see Beth for a while.  See you later!  Oh!  Ruth Ann, I hope the Sandman does a better job tonight!  <3
Hi everyone.  I am sitting at Kauffman Tire this morning waiting for them to align, rotate and balance my tires and to flush my brake fluid.  I am sure I will be here for a couple of hours.  I decided to do this this morning at the last minute.  If I am not too tired when they get through will stop at Aldi's for a few grocery items we need.  That will be enough for one day for me.
Carol, I am using my iPad this morning to write here as have a couple of hours to kill while they work on the car.  I will be ready for a nap by the time I get home. Glad you got yours back.
Janet, I certain
I  agree with you on the compression of time as we grow older.  I think you would love the iPad as it gives you the Kindle and Nook apps as wel as many others.  Hope you have a good trip to Dodge City today.
Hello everyone, I am just sitting here passing the time until it is time to eave for my Dr. appointment this afternoon, I am going to address this vertigo that I have had since I fell and hit my head on April 7thh., This has just lasted too long and I am tired of  being dizzy John's memorial will be held at the Church of Christ where he ministered for so many years. Ann is  having a hard time please pray for  for Ann, and the girls Sarah and Erin. I think my grands are doing OK as far as I know. but Sarah has not had much rest since she started to help care for her father, And with MS she needs to get all the rest she can.
Larry, thanks for the info re the iPad.  I would like to 'play' with one to sort of get a feel for it before I buy one.  I can't even use my cell phone correctly, it drives me crazy!  It just doesn't do what it's supposed to do!  Hope you didn't get too tired while waiting for your car's care.
We just got our car back from the shop, and they did a beautiful job on it--looks brand new!  But the rear view mirror flutters around, so they will get us a new one.
Marilyn, hope you get some answers about the vertigo.  I had no idea Gilbert's father-in-law was a minister.  What church?  It doesn't sound as if you plan to attend the service, and I'm sure that's for the best, with vertigo.
The bus trip today was a test run following getting the bus repaired, and they (we) went to the casino.  Not my cup of tea at all.  Darrel handed me a dollar and told me to play it, so I did, in a penny machine, and didn't win one red cent before losing it all.  That's fine with me.  I only went because they said they would take me to Hobby Lobby, which they did, so I'm happy.  The restaurant in the casino was a total disappointment, sorry food and high prices.  The snack bar would have been a much better choice.  The only good thing I had was fried eggplant!  ;)
Going to watch the news now!
Had a wonderful thing happen today.  I was told a day or two ago that I needed to replace all four tires.  Then, that same day, had a flat on that car.  Four new tires would cost many bucks (500-600).  I got a bright idea and went to Les Sclhwab locally, asked them if just by chance they might have a set of used ones.  Well, lo and behold, tlhey DID!  Cost me $171 dollars, and they're good enough that they might last the lifetime of the car!  So I saved many dollars.  Thanks be to the God Who plans all events in our lives.
Janet, John was a minister at the Church of Christ for over 20 years. I will be going to his memorial service it will be held at the church in Eureka, California on Sept 8th. I do n't have vertigo as long as I am sitting or standing, only when I lay down and get or lay down an turn my heard to the left. It is BPPV and I have had it before. Once it lasted for 3 months  http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/bppv/bppv.html  (http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/bppv/bppv.html) If you look at the picture on this website, there is an "ear rock"  floating around in one of those tubes. She is sending me to PT  so they can figure out which tube because  the manipulations of my head (exercises) depend on which tube it is in. Different manipulations for different tubes. i have tried two different exercises  known to help but they didn't.
My Cholesterol is down to 141 so i can stop taking the Crestor. Woo Hoo not more statins. She also gave me a Tdap shot, Tetanus, Diphtheria,, Pertussis, since I have COPD and compromised lungs.  Whopping cough is become prevalent again and there have been several cases already in Oregon. I go back only for blood test in 3 months (no Dr visit that time) and again in 6 months with a Dr visit
then.
So many comments - I'm almost afraid to answer any of them for fear someone wil be disappointed.
It's been a busy 2 days - 3 trips to the elderly lady's various doctors, 2 trips for prescriptions, a stop by the medical supply office, a meeting with Salvation Army golden agers that ended up being their annual lunch at a buffet restaurant - nice, 2 meetings with my son, and, hmmm, other things I can't remember!
So, the Sandman is already comin' up the steps!! I think I'd better go let him in. ;)
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
How did I miss coming in here yesterday?!?!?!
I got all wound up in trying to make arrangements for a kind of mini family reunion.  One cousin and her husband will be coming to stay nearby for the weekend and another cousin and her husband will come for the afternoon on Sunday.  We've found that a house that belonged to our grandparents from the 20's to the mid 50's, and where my mother and I lived in the late 40's, is on the market and we've asked if it would be possible to have a look-see, even though we're not in the market.  So far, no answer from the realtor.  I guess if there's no commission involved, the courtesy of a reply doesn't apply.  >:(
Oh well, we can at least see and take photos of the outside to compare with a couple we have from years ago.
Hi everyone.  We are in for a potential stormy afternoon in our area with some possible high winds as well.  Today is outpatient physical rehab for Pat at 11 am.  That will be it for today.  Yesterday was a busy day.  I spent about three hours at the tire shop and then another hour shopping at Aldi's as have to take things slowly anymore.  Then another church friend brought over a nice meal for us last evening that we enjoyed very much.  We are on our own now but fortunately Pat is more up to at least telling me what to do in the kitchen. I had the best day yesterday I have had in the last month and sure hope today will be the same.  Stacey did get the news she has been waiting for regarding the low-income housing.  She will get the handicapped apartment and is to sign the papers on Monday.  This will be the first time she will have actually seen the apartment.  She has met one or two of the people who live there who say they love living there and there is a definite emphasis on safety as there is a guard always on duty.  I am sure she will move as soon as possible even though she will have possession of her other apartment until the end of next month.
Marilyn, hope your got some help from your doctor yesterday.  Glad that your grandchildren are taking the loss of their grandfather OK.  We have a couple of good friends who has fought the ear rock problem but are doing very well   now.
Janet, if you know anyone that has an iPad they would probably be happy to let you play with it a little while and show you some of what you can do and how easy it is to use.  Glad you got your car back. It sounds like your casino experience was what we always experienced as well.  I must say Darrel is the last of the big spenders with a whole dollar.  :)  I agree with his philosophy and always set a low limit when we have visited a casino.  I read an article recently that a casino in Las Vegas was going to open a new restaurant that would have over 500 items and some famous chefs.  I bet that will be expensive.
Al, good thinking on the tire situation.  God does provide.
Ruth Ann, it sounds like from your schedule you are due a day off.  I am sure your friend appreciates all the help you are giving her.
Jeanne, hope you enjoy the mini family reunion and are able to see the place where you once lived.
I am back from a very fast trip to Michigan.  I am glad I went.  Don was such a great man...great to hear the stories of how he was always there to help.  His love outside of his family was the woods...hunting, cutting wood, hiking and 4-wheeling.  He was found in the woods cutting wood.  I am so glad that Lezlie didn't find him.  The two military boys and their wives got home.  Now it will be a big adjustment for Lezlie when they all leave and it is just her and Ivery.
I called this morning to find out if the brake booster came in for Hawaii...my Crystal Red Cruze.  Famous last words...it just came in!  But I have another problem.  I filled the car up in Michigan yesterday morning and my A/C isn't working now.  It was working fine on the way to Michigan.  ???  So I take my car in Wednesday, the 22nd, and leave it for the brakes to be fixed and the A/C to be fixed and get a loaner to drive until it is done!
Today I take Ivalou to the Eye Specialist.  Hope they can 'fix' her eye.  She says she doesn't think it is as bad as it was but she can still only see straight ahead in her right eye...the rest is spotty spots of blood.  She was told they may lazer her eye.
I am like Janet...time flies by so fast now!  Ever since I retired in '93 at the age of 51, I have said, 'I am glad I am retired.  I don't know when I would have time to work!'  And I am not as busy as some people!
And I am like Ruth Ann...don't want to try to comment to all because I am afraid I might miss someone and they be offended.  Just know I have read all and praying appropriately.
I am not offended if I am forgotten.  Good grief, everyone in here has buckets of serious issues in their lives.  Am so glad that I volunteered as a chaplain at the hospital and had that training because it really did give me a taste of "there but for the Grace of God go I".
I feel terrible that I am not doing any volunteer work now that we live here and at the same time my job as wife and whatever keeps me so busy that it would be so hard to fit in anymore.  If we ever in our lives have a regular schedule..... what would that be like?
Al:  Super deal on the tires.  We remember the Les S.... tire company that has been in Seattle for years.  Good for them.
Marilyn:  Glad that you are getting attention for your dizzy spells and may they find the cause of your concern.
We are so grateful for a change in morning weather and cooler nights as well.  Thanks be!
Wow! It sounds like we all have things we're dealing with in our lives. I am praying for each as I read your posts.
I was the photographer for my niece's wedding on Saturday ... and yes, it rained. She had big plans for the pictures to be taken at her parents' farm in front of the barn, but was disappointed as we couldn't go out there in the pouring rain. I found the whole day challenging, as I'm not used to doing wedding photography in the first place, and in the second place, we had to revise our plans so much  :) However, the Lord provided a carport for us to be outside for some of the pictures without being in the rain, and the groom's parents had an old Pontiac car that was a great prop for the pictures.
We are going to my sister-in-law's Celebration of Life tomorrow. This is a difficult time for my husband's brother. It must be so difficult when the person doesn't have faith in Christ and believes the end of life is the end.
Lovely photo, Betty!  Even if it was raining outside the carport.
What a day this has been.  I went to Pat's around 8 or so for her to do my hair, then went to the care home with the intention of getting another interview done.  That didn't happen, as they called me to the phone, and it was Becki, Beth's good friend from Fargo, North Dakota.  She was just a few miles from town, coming to surprise Beth!  I knew she was coming, but thought it was to be next weekend, not this one.....anyway, Beth had a Dr. appt., the transportation gal was off today; they had to send two other girls to take her, then they had to go move a new resident....and forgot about Beth.  So there she sat for over an hour and a half, waiting to be brought back.  And Becki and I sat and waited, as Becki had her videocam all set up to record the surprise on Beth's face.
By the time they got her back, lunch was over and cleaned up, so then I had to go to a restaurant and get the three of us something to eat, then feed Beth.  I brought mine home.  Becki had driven (with two friends, all taking turns at the wheel) from 3:00 PM yesterday until they arrived around 10:30 this morning.  So of course, she is exhausted, needed a shower and a nap, so she is sleeping now.  When she wakes, I will get Beth's van out of her garage and let Becki drive that, so I don't have to shuffle her back and forth.
Becki bought Beth  a new computer!!  She wants to get her set up with Skype so they can talk, and so Beth can be in their chat room, as they all miss her there.  Her friend stayed up all night getting the computer set up with voice recognition, etc., so I really hope this all works for her.  Too bad I am no help with that stuff!  But John is pretty good, and he will be here for 17 days, so by the time he leaves they should have the wrinkles ironed out of the system.
And.....Janet is sleepy, too!
Wow! Sounds like everyone has really been having mucho activity and "happenings" in their life!  I've been here regularly to read and pray with and for y'all, but just have never had anything to say that would be of interest.
My family has been going through much of the usual "stuff" that families go through,and I have managed to stay mostly out of the way.  With the exception of the month of May, when I spent three, very stressful, weeks in California with some of them!  I won't/can't go into details, but it looks like that was only a bandaid on a rather messy situation.  At the moment, Candice (granddaughter, and Becky and Jessica's sister) has separated from her husband and she and her two kids are living in Sacramento area with Becky and Bryan!  AND the three of them (and three kids) are looking for another place to move into by the end of the month!  This time I do not plan to be involved in the moving process.   :crazy:
On a happier note: my youngest granddaughter, Jessica, gave birth to a son yesterday evening.  He's 6 lb 4 oz and 19" ... everyone seems very happy and in good health, so I can praise the Lord for that.  This makes the 15th great grandchild for me!  I think that's enough!  All this came from my three daughters and eight grandchildren.   :o
It looks like I will be going to California once again in a few weeks (hopefully after everyone has completed the move) for my high school class SIXTIETH reunion!  Yup, I graduated in 1952.  Seems funny to meet up with all those "old people" whenever I attend one of these reunions!   ;)
I have no intention of trying to name or comment on each of you who have posted here.  I have read everything you've written, though.  I know I would be leaving someone or something out and that would be hurtful and something I would never want to do.  Just know that I love all y'all and live in constant prayer and good wishes for each of your needs.   <3
Well, I DID take that day off today...really needed to rest. So, all I did was sleep as long as possible, procrastinate as long as possible, went to a grocery for folks from the east such as from India, Pakistan, and asian countries, got wonderful veggies and some spices I'm interested in trying; then had a very satisfying meal from a great little "fast food" restaurant named Fazoli's where they cook it as soon as it's ordered, then serve it on real china with actual metal silverware. :) So, so good, and I grought half the entree' home and half of the breadsticks as well. Finally, a stop by the gasoline station.
I'm not certain if GasBuddy.com works in your area, but I found that driving only 4 miles from where I left, gasoline prices were 20+ cents lower.  <3 Love that Gas Buddy!
Now, to rest from being out for a bit.
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
Janet:  That was so sweet of Beth's friend to bring a computer and set it all up with voice recognition.  A very caring gift.
Yes, we look at Gas Buddy.  Around here, Valero stations are the ones with the best price.
We just had a phone call that our son-in-law's father is at the trauma center in Denver with severe headache - they live in Texas and take their trailer to the mountains every summer.  He is having an MRI tonight so most likely will be kept there.  I know of two people in the same situation right now.
Jane:  I can't believe you have so many great-grandchildren!  That would be a full group picture for sure.  Enjoy your class reunion.
Betty:  The picture of the bride and groom in front of the old car is really great.  Glad you had a carport for shelter.  Blessings to the bride and groom!
Jane!  So good to see your post!  It does seem that so many families are "going through stuff' now, doesn't it?  That old enemy of our souls never tires of tormenting us, but we know who has the victory in the end, if we "cast not away our confidence."  I really do not know how anyone makes it through this life without knowing Jesus as their Savior!
I got up early to watch Joseph Prince, forgetting that it is Saturday.  :(  I could have slept another hour and a half, probably.  But maybe not.  Anyway, lots to do again today.  Sure am glad we have an extra vehicle for Becki to drive, because I must go to Hugoton today for a baby shower for that third great granddaughter who will be arriving next month!
Good for you, Ruth Ann, for staying home and resting for a change!  I will check out GasBuddy.com, and thanks!
I pray all of you have a lovely day with our Lord.
Here is the next of my series for the paper.
                                         TREASURES FROM THE LEGACY
                                                      CARL W. SLEMP
                                                       By Janet Damon
This week we are featuring Carl W. Slemp.  Carl was born December 2, 1931, and grew up near Moscow, Kansas.  He told me that in those days, there wasn't much for kids, as money was in short supply.  He said he didn't think he'd ever have much of anything.  He grew up helping his Dad and older brother on the farm.  He had the one brother and two sisters.
As kids, they played games outdoors, mostly making their own entertainment.  There were a few parties and an occasional dance, but Carl said he wasn't ever a great dancer.  They also swam in the horse tank, and they always had dogs around.
Carl graduated from high school in Moscow in 1948, one of a class of 12 or 13.  For the next couple of years, he did labor jobs like pushing a wheelbarrow.  In 1950, he started farming some of his grandmother Beasley's land.  He started on a small scale, and continued to work hard and accumulate machinery a little at a time; then he started buying land as he could.  Eventually, Carl was the owner of  several quarters of land.   He stated that it still surprises him to remember how tough times were when he was young, and then to look back on his success as a farmer.  So his hard work and perseverance paid good dividends.
He is pretty satisfied with the way things are in our country today, stating that the United States is still the greatest country in the world.
When asked about the differences he sees today from when he was young, Carl said that kids have lots more now, but he wonders if they appreciate it, since most don't seem to have to work for it themselves.  He says it is easier to get a job now than when he was young.  And of course technology has made big strides.  We didn't have TV or other stuff like that; we made our own entertainment.
Carl notices that morals are much looser now than when he was growing up.
Carl shared a photo album of family pictures with me, telling me some memories as we looked at the photos.  His Grandma Beasley lived in Clayton, New Mexico.  He had two uncles there who were special to him.
  Carl was disqualified from military service because of poor eyesight.
The bicycle they had as kids was a hand-me-down from some cousins. He remembers that he always loved cars, trucks, motor scooters, and motorcycles.  His first vehicle was a Cushman motor scooter.  When he rode his first motorcycle home and parked it in the shed, his Dad walked around it one time, and then said, "I expect that thing will finish you off."
Carl always liked Chevy trucks and cars and John Deere tractors.  Some of his favorite cars were a bright red Starfire Oldsmobile, and a Pontiac.  He said he had owned a lot of good cars.
Carl and Jim Anderson shot a deer East of Moscow many years ago, and he showed me a photo of that, in the bed of a pickup.
When asked what achievement or accomplishment gives him the most satisfaction, he answered, "starting to own land and improve on it."
Though Carl never married, he rather regrets that.  He had several girl friends, but just never married, so he plans to pass on the fruits of his years of hard work to his beloved nieces and nephews.  He hopes they will appreciate it and care for the land.
His advice to young people is:  Don't ever give up.  Just keep slugging away, and you will succeed.
Carl says nobody ever had better parents than he had, that they were just wonderful people.  He said they attended church some, but never as much as his mother would have liked.  He admired his parents above all others.
The people who most inspired him in life were his mother's brothers, Uncle Johnny and Uncle Myron Beasley.  They liked to box and he thought that was great.  Myron had several boxing matches in Clayton, N. M.
The biggest differences he sees now from when he was young are that when he was a kid, times were hard.  But he persevered, worked hard, and wound up having a good life.  He thinks it seems more dangerous now, with bombs and other weapons of war.  The pace of life is faster now, and we have a lot more conveniences.
Carl wants to be remembered as being honest and decent, and doing the best he could with what he had.
The legacy he wants to leave is this:  Honesty is the way to go!  Work hard, and don't ever quit!  If you will behave yourself and be honest, you will succeed.
Carl always enjoyed hearing Johnny Cash sing, and remembers going to see him and June Carter Cash in Dodge City one time.  He said there was a huge crowd, and that is a good memory.
Carl would appreciate your visit, and you can talk about old times, favorite cars, farming, or whatever you'd like.  Come to the legacy and see him!
Hi everyone.  The rain and storms missed our area yesterday and it turned out to be a hot day.  While Pat was at therapy yesterday I went to Publix grocery for a few items I couldn't get at Aldi's and got us a nice Boar's Head sub sandwich for lunch.  That was enough for one day.  After coffee this morning I may attend a meeting but that will depend on how I feel at the time.  I had another very tired day yesterday.  I am hoping that won't be the case today.  We have nothing else on the schedule of which I am aware unless we decide to do something later in the day.
Etta Sue, it sounds like Don passed while doing something he liked to do or at least in a place he liked to be.  Glad you are safely home. You might check to be sure your gas cap is on tight.  I understand that can create problems but have no idea whether that would impact an air conditioner or not.  I am sure your AC must still be under warranty.
Carol, I feel the same way about not being mentioned all the time and that is why I always start my messages with the "Hi everyone" so my posting is inclusive.  When I have time I try to think of something to comment on to each person posting since I last posted.  Glad to hear you are having cooler weather in the Denver area.
Betty, what a cute picture of the wedding couple.  The Lord always provides as you said.  I am sure today will be a tough one for your family.
Janet, I am sure you were very upset that they had forgotten that they had taken Beth for an appointment.  Didn't someone stay with you while she was there.  So nice her friend came to surprise her and what a nice gift.  I certainly hope things can be set up so Beth will be able to use the computer.  I have had no experience with voice recognition.  They have some marvelous things to increase accessibility in using the computer.  When is John coming?
Jane, don't sell yourself short as I am sure we all like to see your postings even to just know that you are all right.  Jane, you are wise to let the young folks take care of their moving.  That sounds like a tough situation with so many living together.  Congrats great grandmother on the new baby in your family.  How do you keep up with 15 great grandchildren.  I can't remember the birthdays of just four.
Ruth Ann, we used to have a Fazoli's not far from us but they have closed that business site and it is now a Del Taco.
Janet, another great article.  Each person has an interesting life story.
I was in the closet of the room that is Don's office  looking for an empty folder when he said, "You never go in there, why now?".  I spotted a picture of the grandchildren that hangs in my sewing room - now I am trying to figure out what he has in mind for my birthday. ;D
Daughter's FIL just doesn't have a diagnosis with his incapacitating headaches that come and go.
Yes, it is a lovely morning here with a bit of a breeze.
It is really nice to be looking forward to Sunday's sermon - we had to drive last Sunday morning for about 5 hours and the scenery was so beautiful that was a treat but we did miss the service.  Every time we view the mountains, we are reminded of the power of the Lord.  How can people doubt the perfect order of nature?
Ivalou didn't get good news at the Eye Specialist yesterday.  She has Macular Degeneration.  Actually she has it in both eyes but her left eye is 'dry'...hasn't bled yet.  Her right eye is 'wet' meaning she has a big bleed at the center of her vision.  She said when she looked at a chart, she can only see the upper left corner...I thought she said before that she could only see straight ahead.  You can look at the Amsler Grid here (http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/amsler-grid.htm).  She was given an injection in her right eye at the cost of $1800 plus the cost of the injection.  Hopefully it will dissolve some or all of the blood.  I am to take Ivalou back in one month...if improved she will get a less costly injection...if not, the same injection as yesterday.  If not treated she will lose her eye sight in that eye.
She was hungry.  When we left, after 2½ hours, she wanted to go to King Chef.  But then decided she wanted to come home instead.  I haven't talked to her today.  I just want to believe that the doctors tell you the worse scenario and hopefully her eye will improve!
I imagine all kinds of things are going through her head...not driving...losing her vision which means she will have to go somewhere else to live...with a daughter, her son or a nursing home?  No TV...what does one do with no vision?
I slept late today...what a surprise, hunh?  I am doing laundry from my trip to Michigan.  Then I will totally relax the rest of the day...I hope!
Another bright and sunny day in Indiana.  Our nights and days are cooler compared to June and July!  Does this mean an early fall?
I love the stories from The Legacy!  Keep them coming!
Larry, John is to arrive on Friday, the 24th.  And thanks for the comment on the article.
Etta Sue, I was also told I have Macular Degeneration, especially in my left eye.  and to take some high priced vitamins to help slow it down.  It is the dry kind, though, which is the lesser of two evils.  I am taking a page from Larry's book and not worrying about it, inowing there is nothing I can do about it, anyway.  So sorry about Ivalou, though.
Thanks for the comment on the article about Carl--I appreciate it!
Carol, when is your birthday?  Cute, that Don caught you "in the act!"  It is nice and cool here today, but also windy.
Etta sue sorry to hear about  your sister's vision problems.
Janet do keep the stories coming I enjoy them. What is the name of the vitamins you are taking?
I too have a some MD in one of my eyes, not really enough to be of any concern to me at present
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Week~August 5
The vitamins my doctor told me to take are called I-CapsMV. They were developed by Vanderbilt University researchers here in Nashville. The "MV" stands for multi-vitamin, that is formulated to their recommendations, and it also includes 3 types of vitamins/enzymes to help vision. My MD was a bit worse this year, but held fast for 2 years before that.
Because of the vision problems, I don't do a lot of driving at night - particularly if there are no street lights - then I don't drive to that location at all.
It was another restful day today, with only a brief visit to a hardware store for something needed. Now, it's time to have a bit of dinner. :)
Y'all have a great rest of the day with our Lord.
Larry, thanks for your prayers. Today was a bit difficult, but not in the way we expected it. We don't always understand why things turn out the way they do, but remembering that God is in control really helps.
We went to our SIL's "Celebration of Life" this afternoon. We were told that it would be from 2:00 to 4:30, and that it would just be casual where people could take time to visit. They did not tell us that there would be a bit of a service at 2:00.
We would have been there (Wasaga Beach) by 2:00, but our daughter was driving up from Scarborough to meet us and go over with us ... and we waited, and waited. She does not have a cell phone, so we couldn't call her. There was a bad accident at Innisfil, and she was sitting for an hour and a half or so. She was finally able to get to a pay phone, and let us know what was happening. We walked in around 2:45 and the service was all over. We had missed it. I was just glad that our daughter was okay:)
We were able to visit with everyone though, so I'm glad we went over.
Hi Carol.  I am wondering, and only wondering, if the headaches the FIL is experiencing may be caused by either a brain tumor or a problem with his eyes.  I am definitely adding him to my prayer list.
Hi Betty.  I just got home yesterday from five days at a friend's cottage up at Wasaga Beach.  It is, thankfully, nowhere near the touristy section of beach and, therefore, quite a pleasant place to go to escape the city.   I love those "celebrations of life" as they are usually such uplifting, even happy times, reminiscing about the loved one rather than lamenting his loss.  After all, if he or she is a believer, they have gained much more than we have lost.
I have read all other posts, and will be praying for each and every concern.
