Morning Devotional...

Scripture: Proverbs 17:14
"The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts" NKJV

This is the story of two brothers --- John and Tom, who lived on adjoining farms and fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch.

Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.

One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I'm looking for a few days work" he said. "Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there I could help with?" "Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor; in fact, it's my younger brother Tom.

Last week there was a meadow between us and Tom bulldozed the river levee and now there is a creek between us. I know he did this to spite me, but I'll do him one better. See that pile of lumber by the barn? I want you to build me a wall --- not a fence I can see through but a 12-foot wall with no holes or gates --- so I won't need to see his place or his face anymore." The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you."

The older brother had to go to town, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing. About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job.

The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped. There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge -- a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work with handrails and all -- and Tom, his neighbor and younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched.

"John, you are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done --- I'm very sorry for the way I've acted," said Tom as the two brothers embraced.

They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder. "No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother. "I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I have many more bridges to
build."

Prayer: Father thank you breaking down walls and building bridges in my life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

I want to put this in, too, but it didn't exactly fit in the above, so I will add it now.  It is from either James Merritt or David Jeremiah...(senior moment!)

                                             ADVICE FOR LIVING

1. If you're depressed, listen to country music.  They are always more messed-up than you are.

2. Always buy your parents nice gifts.  You don't want to inherit junk!

3. You never have to apologize for something you didn't say.

4. Better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Plebes (freshmen at military academies) can only say four things:  Yes, Sir;  No, Sir; No excuse, Sir; and Sir, I don't understand.  The first two show respect and restraint, the third that you take personal responsibility, and the fourth, a willingness to learn.

          Thankfulness=fruitfulness
          Thanklessness=fruitlessness

There is power in thanksgiving.

Janet, a beautiful story in today's devotion.  How much better to build bridges across misunderstandings than to possibly wall out love.  Your second post is also very fitting and worth thinking about.  Thanks!  :)

Hi Janet,

thank you for this devotion and also your 4 whimsical quotes.
The one at number 4 reminded me of a saying I often tell people but
t's the reverse of your number 4.
"If you ask a question you might look like a fool fror a few seconds but if you don't ask it you'll be a fool forever."

Greetings from geoff t in Adelaide South Australia to all.

Janet, a very good devotional for this week.  It reminds me of what I grew up hearing from my mother.  Also the four adages that follow.  Thank you for the reminder that it is so much better to build bridges than walls!

Oh, we are all gearing up for the Vikings game now - Don is from Minnesota, graduated U of Minn & the Vikings are a Minnesota team, he is wearing his school shirt.  I probably won't watch because it is too exciting.  My sewing machine is making a humming noise & that means a trip to the shop.  And, just in the middle of sewing blocks.

Janet:  Very nice devotions & they speak so plainly to what is important in life.

Marilyn:  It was nice that you had a visit with Fay earlier.  Take care.

It is so windy outdoors.  In the mountains, the gusts were up to 114 mph.  I hope everyone is safe.

I got a big kick out of the #2 one above.  ;) :D ;D

We have been to our dance class, now Darrel is watching the Vikings play New Orleans.  I think I will start a new book.  I didn't go and read to Beth yesterday or today.  She might be unhappy with her Mom.

Hello everyone. I have been keeping up with all of the posts and really am blessed how God walks with each one of you in your daily journeys.

The furnace in our church that heats the fellowship room and the children's classrooms is broken and we had to cancel all children's activities this Sunday. Our pastor spent more than half his sermon speaking to the children, however it was such a clear message that I was truly blessed by it; how God worked from the creation of the earth and all the way to the birth of Jesus, pointing the way to gift of salvation!

JudyB, the only person I know in this area that would have a $500.00 grocery bill would be the lady, I work for, from the café. She buys from our local grocery store, as well as the ones in North Bay to stock her restaurant.

Hi, friends, it's been a few days, and I really missed y'all.

I've read all the posts, but, of course, can't respond to them all - I would have "writer's cramp" and y'all would be reaaallllllly BORED!

^-^

So, just a quick answer about the physical therapy. It involves a full hour of work - using an "arm bicycle" (that's the only thing I can think of to call it - there are handles that rotate, and I'm to pedal it with my arms backwards for 8 minutes), a pulley exercise to get my arm to rise above my head, biceps curls with gradually increasing weights, use of exercise elastic cords to pull and move my arm in different ways, a session of massage with the therapist and then wall pushups. Also, about every other time, she has me to use 30  pinch clothespins and reach below my waist to pick them up one at a time then attach them to a line above my head.

By the end of all that, I'm ready to be "iced down" for 10 minutes and then on my way to other activities.

An elderly member of our ladies lunch group wasn't able to be at church today, so I took a takeout meal to her, then we sat and talked as she ate. Oh, what a blessing to spend a bit of time with her one-on-one!

Y'all have a great rest of the day.

Ruth Ann

I'll start with my usual-Morning All-when I come in...

Want to make a comment on the wonderful Devotion Janet-What a Wonderful wonderful story and devotion!!!

As for the advice-I related to #1. Got a chuckle out of #2 and for 3 & 4 I grew up with a similiar saying-If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all!!!...This way you keep yourself outta trouble and won't be sorry for saying anything thoughtless...

What ever your thoughts are-what ever you speak-make sure they are in sync, with God's words and thoughts...Halelleujah!!!!

Have a God-filled, blessed day!!!

Wow, Ruth Ann!  That does sound like quite a workout for your arms!  You are such a blessing, and I know the lady to whom you took lunch was blessed by your presence.

Thanks, everyone for the kind words.  God is good!

Time to go exercise!  This afternoon, I am scheduled for a mammo-OUCH-gram.  :(

Whew, Ruth Ann!  How often do you go through that routine?  It would take more than 10 minutes of "icing down" to get me on my way!

Juanita, my mother drummed that into my head, too, and I passed it along to my kids.  It's not always an easy admonition to follow.

G'Mornin.... I'm here earlier than usual, but I'm here!  There was a lot of wind and rain overnight but everything is calm now and there's no rain (at the moment)   I'll be on my way to exercise class later, and then one more errand and I'll be in for the remainder of the day -- as far as I know now.  :)

I got the bill for the repair of the fence that my car took out when I totalled it in California last May.  It's really not bad, $382.31, but I will fax it over to my insurance claim agent this afternoon.  That's what I have insurance for, right?

Actually, only $11.95 of that is for materials ... the rest is for labor and Equipment ($27.90). California needs the money. ;)

Slow getting here today but we have already been to therapy and have eaten breakfast.  Then at 2:30 we head back to Noblesville for a doctor's appointment.

Janet, what a neat story.  I kept thinking of that big wall at Nogales, AZ.  Maybe a bridge would be better.

It was snowing great big flakes while I was waiting in rehab.  People were coming in with flakes stuck in their hair and on their coats.  Not sticking on the ground though!  Yeah!

Well, Jane, neighbor to the west, informed me that trash day was changed from Thursday to Monday.  So the trash is out ready to be picked up once again.  It is still there for right now but Jane said it was after noon when they came last week!  Some of the bags of trash are getting some mileage on them....and a little rank!!

I got a call from Donna Getz...Donna Marie of SrNet...last evening.  She is in Carmel staying with her daughter while her daughter is recuperating from a surgery.  Donna and I have had lunches together several times and she has even spent the night or two here.  She is from Austin, Texas.  Anyway we are having lunch tomorrow!

Hi everyone.  After a very rainy and stormy yesterday, today is a beautiful day.  Pat has gone to Sam's Club to do some shopping and I will soon leave to attend my Monday men's luncheon.  After coffee this morning four of us went to the gym and walked at least a mile.  I may have been a lap or two short as have to pay attention to when the chest pain begins.

Janet, I really liked the devotional.  When we bear grudges we are the ones being hurt.  One of the things I remember from my Masonic work is the saying "If you cannot speak well of a man, you can at least remain silent."  You don't have to apologize for things you didn't say.  We never know what may be behind comments from others and can only be impacted by them when we take conscious action to do so.  Not reading to Beth for a couple of days will help her not take what you do for granted.

Ruth Ann, that sounds like quite an exercise program.  Hope it helps your problems.

Jane, the cost of the fence repair sounds like car repair where it is usually the labor cost that increases the bill so much.

We are having yukky weather.  Combination of rain and snow.  School was out today because of the rain/icy conditions.

Jane he should take it our of his own pocket!

Larry I have a couple of people who hold grudges in my family.  Life is too short for that.  In reality they are only hurting themselves.

Etta Sue Glad your garbage is finally being picked up.  They should have notified you!

Marlyn I am sorry I didn't comment on your loss.  You at least know she has gone to a better place and is out of pain.

I am enjoying a bit of sunshine from Florida.  A friend brought back back a bag of oranges for us.  What a treat!  They are so sweet!

I had the mammogram, and it wasn't bad at all, much less painful than the last one I had.  That's been at least 15 years ago, so the machines are different now.

I'm still debating about canceling that appointment for the colonoscopy.  I just do NOT feel peaceful at all about that prospect.  But I will keep praying about it.

Windy here today, not too cold.

Boy, this is boring!  So  I will stop now.  :-[

Janet the procedure is not pleasant, nor is the preparation.  BUT it can save problems in the future.  I encourage you to go ahead with it, get it over and done with.

A friend needs a mammo and because she is under 50 she needs to get a requisition from a doctor. Grrrr. The lump is quite big and painful.

Well I am off to bed.  Have a great night folks and God bless,

:)Hi to all I am sorry that I have not been on site as we have been very busy  with our grandkids and  also we have had much company at our house.  It is not easy for my wife to have guests as it is so hard on her back.  Ido as much as I can to help but three weeks ago I had my surgery for Carpal Tunnel and I could not lift very much so that did not help but God is good and we managed to get through it.  We have so much fun with our grandkids but it is hard to believe that there next birthdays they will be three years old.  Noreen and I are very fortunate to be going to the sunny South for a short time in Feb.  Noreen is going with five sisters on a cruise and then I will meet her when she comes of the cruise and we will stay and do some visiting in Florida till the 27Th of Feb. and then come back home.  We are looking forward to it very much and I just pray and hope thatNoreen will be able to have a good time.

Etta Sue.  I do hope that you will be very cautious when you go outside these winter  months as these bodies  of ours do not like falls and those broken bones don't heal so good.  So be very careful.  Very funny about the 911. :)

Ruth V.  Nice to see your smiling face it is hard to believe that after all these years we are on the same site.Hope that you and your family are well.  Send me an email and let us know whats going on with you all. Judy has my email address.

Larry.Hi to you and Pat.  i HOPE THAT YOU ARE TAKING IT EASY AND NOT STRAINING THAT HEART OF YOURS.  how IS YOUR DAUGHTER HOPE SHE WILL BE WELL ENOUGH TO DO THE JOB THATS SHE WANT TO DO

Al.  Hope that you are feeling not to bad and also your wife..  May the Lord be with you.

Pat and Paul.  Where are you both.  I thought that I was a stranger  come  on back we need you both and we love you also.

Judy B.  Hey sis I do hope that you are feeling a bit better and please don't overdo it. Please say hi to John and the rest of the clann.  God Bless <3

To all others as you can see it in the we hours of the morning so I will be first to post today I do hope that you all have a wonderful week and may the Lord richly bless you.   Please continue to pray for all those people in Haiti who have nothing and we have so much and don't forget the other countries that are having problems.  Good night or good Morning and Praise the Lord for his Blessings.   Gord and Noreen.

The trash was picked up at 1:30pm yesterday.  So good to not see white trash bags in Kaye Don's drive AND in Ivalou's garage last evening.  Since Kaye Don pays the trash bill, I imagine his letter notifying him that the day was changed was lost in transit to Florida.  At least, Jane came to the rescue!  I don't think Waste Management knows three homes put trash out there.

We had white out weather yesterday.  Still snowing today but not much.  It is the wind that is fierce!!  But I am still going to have lunch with Donna.  I am taking my swimming stuff to so swimming and I need to stop at Hobby Lobby to get some yarn to crochet a baby afghan for Charlene's daughter, Carol.  Her baby, Claire Elizabeth, is due in April and the baby shower is in February!  Wish I was brave enough to buy that Neon Pink yarn.  I can't get my mind away from pastels for babies though.   ::)

Hi everyone.  It has turned colder here in Georgia.  McDonald's was chilly as was the gym when we walked this morning.  I have a meeting this morning and the repairman from Sears is suppose to come sometime today to look at one of our garage door openers that is not working.  It started acting up a few days ago and yesterday wouldn't close at all so I had to trip it and close it manually.  It will be a day or so before it is actually fixed as if parts are needed they will have to be ordered and the repairman will have to come back.

Stacey got out of the hospital yesterday morning.  They didn't find that her pain was from her heart.  The doctor, after performing several tests, said it may be arthritis or muscle spasms causing the pain.  She was glad to get home as they were not checking her diabetes or giving her insulin while she was in the hospital as the doctor forgot to write that in her orders.

Gord, I am fine.  Glad to see you had a nice visit with family and friends. Hope you have a great time in Florida.

Janet, I saw the woman who was my bosses secretary here in Atlanta for many years die of colon cancer because by the time they found it it was too late.  It was a terrible way to die.  Please consider very carefully your decision.  Colon cancer is something that can be cured if found in time.  The think the dread of the procedure far exceeded the actual experience for me.

Judy, those Florida oranges are very tasty.  A little bit of Florida sunshine within those peels.

Etta Sue, I have trouble getting used to folks naming babies before they are born.  Nothing wrong with it but just seems odd to me.
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Week~January 24
Post by: Janet on January 26, 2010, 10:32:24 AM
Larry, it seems odd to me as well.  They name the baby and start talking about him/her as if already here, referring to things as being theirs, etc.  Just really different.

I am still praying about the procedure--it is scheduled for in the morning, and I haven't gotten any orders or info about the stuff to drink, etc., so I am wondering......... :-\  My mom is 93 and Darrel's mom is 97 and neither of them ever had a colonoscopy nor a mammogram in their lives.  I know that isn't an indicator, but I do think doctors go overboard with the tests, when there is NO indication they are needed.  Just my opinion, of course.  And after knowing of three people whose colons were punctured during colonoscopies just here in our tiny hospital, (one spent ten weeks in the Wichita hospital!) plus one who died from that in Garden City---I am sure you understand my reluctance.  I feel so wonderful and do not want to jeopardize that.

Etta Sue, send that white stuff out here to SW Kansas!  We would welcome it!  Dry, dry, and dryer is the weather here.  Setting us up for dirt storms later.

I slept late this morning because Darrel and I both read until after midnight last night.  I will go exercise later.  Kristi is out of town the rest of the week, so it doesn't matter what time I go to exercise.  She left me instructions what to do, though!

I am trying to remember to write down the titles of the books I read this year.  That is because I am curious just how many I do read in a year's time.

The sun is shining and it appears to be a nice day here.  I haven't ventured forth yet.

Janet the colon cancer is triggered bu having a different diet that our parent/grandparents had.  We eat far more processed foods than they did.  What we take for granted in our diet our parents had as a treat once a year.  I never had sodas as a child.  today they are considered a normal part of the diet.

Kass actually slept last night.  The Dr. took her off medication cold turkey and she about lost it.  The withdrawal was terrible.  We picked up some more, it will take a bit to get her back to normal.

The temperature is to drop 11 - 12 degrees today.  That could mean icy roads if the sanders don't get out sanding.

Our puppies are so good.  They wait to do their jobbies till they get outside. So good for 2 month old puppies.

Have to go and check other posts and eat.

A mild day again today and for the next two or three, with scattered snow showers and flurries. Then on Friday it's back to the deep freeze.  Meanwhile, after yesterday's rain and with the snow melt from warmer temperatures, we're under a flash flood warning.  Janet, I'll gladly send you some of this wet stuff.

Larry, glad to her Stacey's problems aren't serious.  That kind of pain can be very scary.

Marilyn, I am also sorry about your loss. Faye was a good friend to you, and though at times we all get pretty testy, most likely, you lived through that and was faithful with your love for her until the end. May she rest in peace.

I had therapy again today and she added different exercises. Wish I had time to lie down and rest, but I'm cooking a beef stew for our bible study tonight. We bring in foods and share. Also thinking about taking old fashioned cream cheese stuffed celery sticks with little grape tomatoes on top.

Y'all have a great day. Brrr - it's mighty cold here, after 50+ temps as late as Sunday. Now it's snow flurries for the last 2 days and they predict a rain/ice/snow night Thursday night throughout Friday. YUKKK!

Love to all.

I went to read to Beth.  This is Ladies' Tea day, so I went to check that out, Mom was there but pitched a fit when she saw what they were going to do (they made little pins for Valentine's Day).  Seems she had made a suggestion for something different to do, and thinks they can just do that the very next time.  It takes time to plan and get things ready.  Anyway, she acted so ugly I was embarassed, and I told her I was going to Beth's room.  So I did, and read her two or three chapters of the book.  When I went back, I talked to Mom about how much easier it is for the girls to care for residents who treat them nice, than for those who are grouches.  She knows that, but was feeling sorry for herself.  Then she started whining about how she can't see, can't hear, can't read, etc.  So I reminded her the Bible says we can have what we say, and she is making bad confessions.......oh my.  Anyway, it sometimes feels the roles have been reversed.  And I am not too good at parenting my parent.  But I am much better and more patient with her than my younger sister, who is Mom's favorite.  Mom didn't get upset with me, and she admitted that she needs to work on her attitude.  Sigh.....

I did go to the gym and did cardio for 45 minutes, first on the glider, then the stairstepper, then the treadmill.  Then stretches.

Time to watch the news, and hope there is some that's good, for a change.

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been here for a few days. O have been busy  working with my PSP groups and  just haven't done much posting  anyplace. I bought the Flat Belly diet book on eBay and I am reading that, I haven't  done anything  it has recommend yet but I have  cut my portions and lost a couple of #'s. I bought the book on Jane's recommendation sort of. I am walking more and doing better breathing as I walk, I have been have some burning sensations in my bronchial area when I walk and have had to use my inhaler several times during the walks. It's getting better if I stick a cough drop in my mouth before I leave here. However I am definitely going to talk to the Dr about that when I go on the 8th. This time I want answers from him.

I am still getting used to parents knowing the sex of their baby let alone naming the baby before birth.  Anyway Claire is getting a hot pink baby afghan.  I asked a woman working in the yard department at Hobby Lobby what she thought about a hot pink baby afghan.  She said a baby girl doesn't care but when gets 2 years old, she will love it.  Her granddaughter loves all the neon colors!

Donna Getz and I had a great visit and good food.  I didn't go swimming.  Just went to Hobby Lobby and to the bank for some money!

Ivalou has gout once again.  :'(   She took 7 days of Uloric...a new drug to prevent gout and she didn't get sick at all.  But since she took two generics and now wants to get a brand new drug, the insurance had to get a statement from the doctor to give a good reason why the brand new drug.  She was told she could get the prescription at CVS.  BUT it is $108 for 30 days.  And that is a co-pay!!  I checked the price on my insurance and it would be $144 for 30 days!  Ivalou thinks that is way too high.  She wants to see if there any other generics that she could try or one that is preferred.  Bless her heart.

I went to bed last night and fell asleep on my back.  I slept so good.  I got up at 4:20 and noticed no lights.  Since it was a full moon, I could see the battery operated clock in the bathroom.  I went back to sleep and got up again around 6:30...still no lights.  And it was getting colder.  My new clock alarm made a beeping sound at 7:20 when the lights came back on!  I called Ivalou to make sure she was okay.  She was.  She had said the night before she turned on the lights and used her cane to get to the bathroom because the gout hurt so bad.  And with no electric her lifeline necklace wouldn't work!  Then I got to thinking I don't even know if I could get the car out of the garage without electric.  I would have to get on the trunk to pull the cord so I could manually open the garage door.  And Ivalou's little door to the garage is rotted and won't open.  I was worrying without need.  Rambling...sorry... :idiot:

It was 60° in the house when I got up.  It is much better now and the SUN IS SHINING!!!!  Yeah!!!

Etta Sue, I'm glad the electricity is back and you're warming up again.  We don't realise until the power goes off just how much we depend on electricity these days!

I forgot to call yesterday and order a refill for my pain meds and won't have them now until after 4:00 p.m.  So the trip to the grocery store will wait until tomorrow.  Even with the meds my back complains after grocery shopping so I'm staying home today.

Etta Sue you never know when those cords to open the garage door are needed.  I would like to suggest getting them replaced so you  don't have to climb on the car to open the door if the hydro is out.  We don't need you falling when you are trying to help out!

I slept well last night.  The girls are off to write their 3rd exam.  After today there is only one to go.  The exam stress will be off till June then it is on again.

We have snow again last night and today.  I watched the neighbour take a run at our driveway and the snow.

Got to run

We have sold a puppy to a wonderful family from Oshawa.  They have a spaniel and this makes 2.  They are active people and take the dogs on hikes and long walks.  She loves the outdoors so it is a great match up!

The snow that was promised didn't arrive. it is cloudy with grey clouds...still could snow up a storm.

I have work to get done so be back later!

Hi everyone.  We have had a busy day as had Bible study this morning, then to the donut shop until noon and then to the cafe next door for lunch.  We didn't get home until 1 pm but had a nice time with friends.  I have choir tonight.

Yesterday I had the Sears repair place here as one of my garage door openers quit working.  A little gear that works the opener and is made of plastic had broken in two.  He said he sees these stripped all the time but this was the first time he had seen one completely break.  He had to tear the unit down to get the part in.  The part cost about $37 dollars and the labor over $140.  However, it is worth it to have it work.  Once we get used to these conveniences it is hard to go back.

Janet, I know you made the correct decision for you today in regard to your test.  I understand your comment about becoming the parent figure for your parent.  We went through the same thing with my folks.  Rather frightening to think that one day we may find ourselves in such a relationship where our children have to assume that role for us.

(Giving thanks for answered prayer)

JudyB, I'm so happy you have found a good home for one of your puppies. If it wasn't that we are partial for St. Bernards, I would be tempted; they are SOOOO gorgeous!

We are having a blizzard here..... for all, that is about ten miles south of JudyB's.

My car wouldn't start this morning; dead battery. I think the break lights stuck on and we didn't notice them! I had to get CAA (Canadian Automobile Association) to tow it up to North Bay. The hood, also, would not open as we have had rainy weather which has turned cold today which froze the latches; it has been giving me trouble all winter!

One of our, not too distant, neighbours lives off the grid..... however I enjoy the little luxuries that electricity gives me.

Gord Brown, I will send you an email soon..... maybe even my last three Christmas letters, if you can take all that information!!

Larry, I was mistaken about the appointment.  This was just a consult, and the procedure is scheduled for Feb. 4.  I feel better after having met the doctor and talking to him about my concerns.  Still not looking forward to it, though.  :P

Darrel found a chair he likes, so he bought it and it is to be delivered next Tuesday.  The one he has now is broken and has been giving him trouble.

Time to go make me a nice salad for supper! :)

Janet I am glad you met the doctor.  I hope he put your mind at ease a little bit.

How is Darryl?  Is the infection getting better?

RuthV  I don't know where the dividing line is, but we got very little snow.  I have seen that on our road, seems strange.  You may be beyond the ridge that surrounds our property.  Often in summer everyone else gets rain and we remain dry.

This may be a late night.  I have a dog who may be having her puppies tonight, I don't leave her till she is done.
Bye for now!

We had a wonderful bible study on forgiveness this morning.  I almost did not go and so glad that I did because the words were so interesting and true to life.

JeanneLee:  Do hope your backache is better soon.  Yes, it certainly doesn't take much for those aches and pains to start.

Janet:  Just sending along a hug.  Good that you are continuing with the doctor & I hope that I don't have to drive to Kansas to get you to that appointment.   :)  Weather tonight is just a few snow flurries as we are missing all of the big storms.

RuthV:  Keep bundled up - it makes me chilled just to read the word blizzard.

JudyB:  How many dogs do you have?  Are you sewing anything?  I just put together a quilt top and looking at things in progress that have been stored for months.....

Carol we have 3 adult dogs.  Our old girl Cinnamon is 11 in September she goes with me everywhere. Her Daddy was our first spaniel! Then there is Stiches, she is 4 (I think?) and Keziah, is over a year.  Stitches is Kassie's dog, and Keziah is Elizabeth's.  Keziah has had 4 puppies. We will be down to 2 tomorrow.  We only breed once a year at the most and will often miss a breeding.  Depends on the dog and how she is doing if we miss a breeding.

Carol I am gathering denim.  I need about 4 more pairs of medium blue jeans and about 8 - 10 dark blue.  I will likely have to buy some white denim.  I may also go for some very light blue, that would give me 4 colours, I will have to scrounge for them.  Have you ever made a quilt out of denim?

I've often thought a denim quilt would be durable, as well as warm. Are you going to be using the kids' jeans fabric?

A quilt that is very special to me was made out of the leftover scraps from my maternity dresses. :)

Now that I'm retired, I think I'll take up quilting.

I heard a song this week that contains this phrase: "You don't have to walk on water; it's how you walk on land." My goodness, that has provided me with a lot of food for thought as I've gone about my duties.

Today one of the ladies from church called. A grocery store is going out of business (likely will close before the end of the week), and several ladies are going together to purchase cleaning supplies, paper goods, and plates etc. for our get togethers at church. All of them are working, so they asked me to do the purchasing for them, with reimbursements coming to me on Sunday. It's a very tiny church, so we member support in every way we can. Well, my purchases originally would have totalled over $140, but with the big discount plus coupons, I got the order for only $65 and change. Praise God for his blessings!!

Y'all have a great day.

I'm headed to bed now.

G'nite.

Judy, too bad we're so far apart.  I have a pair of white jeans that I can't get into any more, much to my dismay.  I loved those jeans!  Also, a pair of black ones that you might have been able to use.  Come on over and you can have them!   :)   I'll even put on the tea kettle for you.

Judy I have made a denim quilt and used printed  t-shirt fronts for the backing, I put a sheet blanket in for filling and boy was that quilt ever heavy and hot. But to wash it  was a pain because it was so heavy.

Jeanne I will take those jeans, and be there for the tea.  I will bring the cookies!

Marilyn i will be using the light fiberfil filling and a cotton backing.  Normally I would use a natural fiber, but I had decided for this that is what I will use.

Have a great day folks

Janet:     A wonderful wonderful devotional, one that I will be doing a copy & paste.  Again thanks.

Marilyn:  What you said about the denim quilt is 100% correct added to what you said It was so heavy that it was cold, granted it had been  made many years ago, the denim these days is much lighter but still not my idea of a quilt for sure.

We have a sunny but very windy day with little bits of snow falling from the sky.

I am also trying to copy some pictures to a mini DVD-R without success the CD's work but not this, I must be doing something wrong.

We had a long day yesterday.  Ivalou had physical therapy and then we had to wait 45 minutes for her to have speech therapy.  I did get a skein of yarn done on the hot pink baby afghan, tho.  Then Ivalou and I went to Pizza Hut for early supper.  Very good!

Today I needed to go get some stamps so called Ivalou and she went with me.  I stopped at CVS and then the P.O. and then Dollar General.  Why is it I have one thing on my mind to purchase and spend $30??  I did get a light-weight sweat shirt.  It is so comfy!

Now Marge, Betty, Ivalou and I are going to the movies to see 'Extraordinary Measures' starring Harrison Ford and then to eat somewhere before returning back home!

It is still cold....only 14°F.  And windy.  You sure do hurry when you are out in it!!  It is sunny though!!

Kassie is home early.  Elizabeth is at Doug's babysitting.  Doug and Megan are having a "date night".  I will be having my date night the first full weekend of February. I am going to farm out the girls for that.

We have cold temps and strong west winds going on tonight.  The wood will keep us warm!

Got to go

Hallelujah!  We are finally getting some snow!  Nasty and cold, but we do need moisture in the worst way, so are happy for it anyway.  They predict maybe 8 inches total this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow, then back to sunny.

Carol, I would balk and put on the brakes about that appointment if I really thought you would come and take me.  ;)  Thanks for the thought.

There are a lot of quilters around here, but the only quilts I have ever made were baby quilts when I was having my little ones.  But they are still around (quilts, too  ;)) so I guess the quality was there!

I made two trips to the care home to read to Beth today, the first time, they were just getting her up to go shower, and the second, just getting ready for exercise.  Now the weather is bad enough that I really don't want to go again.

Everyone at this house was thoroughly disgustged at the L-O-N-G State of the Union address last night.  :P :ticked: :uglystupid: :idiot:

Yes, Judy, DARREL is better, but still having night sweats some of the time, so we aren't sure if the infection is completely killed yet.  Thanks for asking.

Hi, friends,

I'm all cozy and warm in this apartment - the heat from the others below me of course, rises, so I don't need my heaters much at all. You say: "Heaters?" Yes, these great buildings were built close to 50 years ago, so both my biggest rooms have the motel-style heating/airconditioning units.

It's been a busy day today, I think I'm about ready to rest.

Y'all have a great evening.

I've has an evening with Kassie, watching movies.  We love the Narnia movies and watched them tonight.

I sold another pup today so that is the fees for mating paid.  I just have the 2 little boys left.  Ginger, the little girl found an older washcloth and decided it would be a good toy for tug of war.  She held on for dear life, and forced the two little guys to give up.  She went to bed with "her" wash cloth!  The new owners figure her toys will not be too expensive!

I didn't plug in the van tonight.  With the temperatures we are having I think that was a mistake.  I will know in the morning!

Well I am off to bed, after the furnace is loaded again.  Night all!

Janet:   I am also so glad that you have planned to go ahead with the tests I have had two and thank goodness that they put me out because I never felt a thing and there was no problems so just keep trusting the Lord and he will be in charge. :)

Brrr!  It is cold here and it isn't below zero!!  I found out yesterday that my sister is getting tired of me saying I am cold...remember this is the first year for 22 years that I have said that!  She even said it like 'I mean it!  I am getting tired of hearing you say you are cold.'  So I guess I had better dress warmer, wear my gloves and think before I say, 'I am cold!'   :o

The movie was great.  We thought at first that maybe Betty wouldn't like it since she lost her adult son a couple of years ago but she said it was a good movie.  It was based on a true story.  I had never heard of the disease that a new enzyme was found to arrest its progress.  But there is a lot of things that I don't know...really!

Today Kitty and I are going swimming.  Our first swim for 2010.  We just haven't been able to get together for swimming...too busy, too cold, bad weather and such.  Kitty's sister from northern Indiana is coming for the weekend so we won't be eating out tonight...taking a snack for after swimming...we are both starved after being in the water.

I found out that the son of my classmate that is at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson is with him now.  I am happy about that.  No one should be in the hospital and no one visit them.

Hi everyone.  We are awaiting the arrival of the storm from the west but we are only suppose to get cold rain in our area.  The north Georgia mountains are expecting ice and snow.

We are attending a get together this evening for the 90+ year old lady who used to attend our church.  She and her husband had lived for several years with their son in Florida but Abe passed away sometime ago and she has moved back here to live with her daughter.  She is almost stone deaf but loves to be with people.  They used to be a part of our Sunday after church and birthday groups.

Judy, Gord, Janet, and Etta Sue those cold temps sound very unpleasant.  I don't think we are to get below 40 here with this spell of weather.

I just contracted to have storm windows installed on my screened porch.  This should allow us to keep it a lot cleaner and perhaps be able to use it a bit more.

We are snowed in!!  I opened the garage door and the drift in front of it comes up to my hip!  And the snow is about a foot deep out by the other garage, with drifts across the road...thankfully, I don't HAVE to get out today, so am just staying home.  Maybe I will get a few things done I have been putting off doing.  (No promises, though.  ;))

The additional snow we were predicted to get today have gone elsewhere.  But we are happy to get the moisture we did get.  :)

I got a new keyboard for my desktop PC, so now I can print things out again when needed.

Not much news from my corner today!

Not much news here, either, except that the furnace is running almost constantly.  We were well below zero last night - still at -8 when I got up at 8:00 this morning and it's not supposed to get up to more than 10 above this afternoon.  A couple more days and nights like this, then up into the 20's during the day.  It will be another 6 or 8 weeks before we can expect anything much better.

Good afternoon, friends, it looks like a turned-upside-down-snowglobe outside! How beautiful (and of course, how treacherous for drivers). They say it will continue snowing for about 18 more hours, so we should have a pretty good accumulation - somewhat in excess of 7 inches, which is a whole lot down here.

Janet, I haven't been able to print since before Christmas because of a printer malfunction. I'm to receive a replacement within the next week, since it's still in warranty.

Well, y'all have a great rest of the day, and although I don't address everyone personally, I think of you as I read your posts and empathize with your struggles. And, occasionally, you'll hear a loud chuckle or a murmered Amen as your posts come up.

Love to everyone.

My dear friend Dorothy, who passed away two years ago, left this world with a broken heart and praying constantly for her granddaughter, who had gone missing a few years earlier.

The story of Leah Peebles (Dorothy's granddaughter) will be aired on America's Most Wanted tomorrow night.

Here's the note from Leah's father, and the producer of AMW.

This is a e-mail I just received from the producer of our story to be aired on America's Most Wanted. Her story is finally on AMW's website and enclosed are a couple of links. Thanks so much for your prayers and support!

Sincerely, John Peebles

Hi there!

Hope you have a good weekend and that your year is going well so far. Just wanted to let you know I've finished Leah's story and my boss approved it. I have shown the story to people who know nothing about the case to get their reaction or feedback. It seems to be a tear-jerker. I think that's probably a good thing because I'm hoping that anyone who watches and knows something about Leah's case will feel compelled to call in with a tip. In all, the story will be about 10 minutes long. That's pretty good!

Anyway, it's set to air on Jan. 30th. I will make sure and notify local media in Albuquerque, and Ft. Worth, but I am sure they'd love to hear from you too. Also, I sent you the above links to Leah's case on our Web page. The top link will take you to our "Missing persons" homepage. As of today, Leah's is the featured case on that page. But we constantly rotate stories around our site. So in case it's gone by the time you click on the link, I sent you the link to her permanent page on our site.

What this means is that her case will be up on our site for just about as long as you can imagine. It also means that we can start receiving tips on her case that will go directly to detectives. If you have any questions at all, please let me know. Talk to you soon!

Ruth Ann:  I can hear your chuckle & Amen too ---what a wonderful gift of the coupons and sale on your church kitchen necessities.

JudyB:  Next week we will dog sit and stay with a 13-year-old granddaughter.  One dog is a puppy, one is about 6 or so years young and the oldest is a yellow lab 20 years in age.  There are health problems with the eldest dog and she continues to bite her foot and take bandages off so this will be a struggle & then to watch the puppy.

Janet:  It is great that you are taking good care - I hope all are safe.  It sounds like it is best to stay off the roads back east.

My cousin who always volunteers at an orphanage in Mexico did not go this year and we just got a video of the floods that washed out a bridge & no cars or trucks can get out so the many volunteers are trapped until they build a dirt bridge which will wash out with the next storm probably.  It looks like the orphanage is having delivery problems but I do know that it is supported by hundreds if not thousands of people here in the states & they will get what is necessary through and repair anything.

Etta Sue:  I untangled my yarn twice but have started once again on a double yarn throw pattern.  I am always cold and even when we lived in Texas I thought the winters were just awfully cold - houses were made so drafty there as compared to the one we had in Minnesota.

Wherever you are able to view America's Most Wanted tomorrow night, please do. It's on FOX here, at 9pm -8 central  I don't usually watch it, but I will be watching this time.  If nothing else, check out the second link in the above post, and read about Leah Peebles.  Then be in prayer for her and her family ... I have known them (her mother, aunt and uncle) since they were born!

Leah was in beauty pageants as a child (Little Miss Fort Worth) and a very sweet and loving child.  I've known of her story for several years.  Every time I heard from her grandmother, my friend Dorothy, she would ask me, in tears, to please keep praying for Leah ... and John and Sharon, her parents.

Praying Jane

Carol it is amazing with dogs how one will be difficult to potty train and her puppies easy.  These puppies will start crying when they need outside.  Even in this very cold weather we are having they are still letting me know, but their mother is nigh near impossible.  There are times I can ring her neck!  LOL I guess I haven't learned her language yet.

We were out for 5 hours and came home to a cold house and an almost dead fire,  Thankfully there were still hot coals to restart.  We are still cool here tonight.  The joys of an old farmhouse.

We have to replace the catalytic converter in the van...as well as the muffler.  Doug is coming over to see if the one out of the parts van will work as a fix.  These parts are so pricey.  We are trying to keep the van going till the spring then get a car that I can run around in.  Something that is easier on gas than the van.

I am tired today, going to try to get to bed earlier.  Have a good night folks.

Hi everyone.  We had a cold rain all night and it is just misty and cold this morning.  Fortunately it isn't cold enough to freeze here but is doing so not many miles north.

We had planned on bringing Stacey out today so we could celebrate her birthday tomorrow.  However, she asked that we come there and we go out to eat at Red Lobster so she doesn't have to use her crutches very much.  She used her crutches on a trip to Wal-mart a couple of weeks ago and it messed up her shoulder and may have been responsible for the pain that sent her to the hospital last weekend.  So we will go down after church tomorrow and spend time with her to celebrate her 45th birthday.

Judy, I had a used car one time that had three catalytic converters on it and that was a very expensive car to maintain.  If I recall I had to replace one of them while I had it.  Hope the used part works for you.  Sounds really cold up your way.

Jane, to have a child missing must be the worst nightmare.  Maybe this program will lead authorities to her.  If I don't forget I will try to remember to watch it tonight.

Carol, does your granddaughter help care for the dogs?  Hope you enjoy your time with your granddaughter.

Ruth Ann, enjoy the beauty of the snow.  It sounds like areas north of Georgia are really getting hit with it.

Jeanne, brrr!!

Janet, glad you got snow but sure hope you don't try to scoop it?  Is it to stay cold there for several days or will it begin to melt soon?

Gord, good to see you posting.

Another cold day, with a high only in the teens.  But tomorrow should be better - maybe even up to the mid 20's!   ;D

We all slept in today.  I am expecting word from John any time when he will be home.

We have a outside door that in winter becomes a wind tunnel.  We will be removing the door, putting in a window, and putting the door over about 6 feet. There is no way in the meantime to plug the cracks.  So last night I got an old towel and closed the door on it.  Lifted the mat to cover the bottom of the door and thought, "That is all I can do tonight."  When we got up this morning the hall was actually warm.  I will be using the towel during the daytime, and at night, until this cold snap breaks.

We are only now having brunch, so I have to go.  Be back later!

Good Morning Just letting you know that I am here reading all your posts and prayer where there is a need. Raining here this morning so I probably won't get to walk the dogs today unless it stops.

Today is Tony's 49th birthday!  I don't mind saying I am 67 but a son that is 49 makes me old!!

I can't figure out whether this is a too long day or a too short day.   ??? I am dusting, sweeping, doing laundry, tidying up, being on the computer, TV, radio...it seems all at once.  And I forgot to say, resting!  I can sure tell it had been 5 weeks since I swam 30 laps!  Muscles are sore, especially my back but it is a feel good sore...if there is such a thing!   ::)

I have two shows to record when AMW is on tonight.  Sometimes I can watch another show but sometimes I can't.  We will see what happens.  Just looked.  I think one of the shows I am recording is a rerun!!  Will check online to see for sure.

Bright and sunny here today!  But cold.  Only 20°F.  But I don't have to get out except to go get the mail and take Ivalou hers.

Etta Sue, how about a son who is 57?   :D  Now that's one to really make me feel old - well at least it makes me sound old!

Hey, Etta Sue and Jeanne ... My first child (Jean) was born in 1953 ... That's 57 years ago ... next daughter is 53 this year, and my "baby" daughter is 49 this year .... Me?  Well, I'm just a mite older than any of 'em ....  :D

How 'bout a grandson who is 36?  And then, consider a great grandson who will be 14 this year!   :yikes:

Sure is a good thing I'm not getting any older ... THEY are!!  ;D

I remember the shocked surprise when I heard "Grandma" and realized it was my daughter being spoken to!!

AMEN Jane... As to my age....I'm not talking!

John is home.  We are having some good times this weekend.  Working on deciding what to do with the van.

There is cloud cover today, thankfully that will make it not as cold for the night.

I'm rambling. Bye

Larry, I should have read your advice earlier!  We did shovel the snow this morning.  But since we only have one snow shovel, we took turns.  It is really nice here today, up in the 40s, and taking turns, we didn't either of us get too winded.  We only shoveled a path a little wider than the Cruiser, so it wasn't too bad.

I went to Pat's for her to do my hair, then to the care home and finished reading the book to Beth.  It is Any Minute by Joyce Meyer and another lady, and is so good--a real cliff-hanger!  Several of the nurses want to read it, so we gave it to Sondra today to read, then they will pass it around.

Jane, I will try to find the story tonight and watch it.  Will look at the TV guide as soon as I get off here.

JANE--I came back to say I noticed you said the show is tomorrow night, but the letter you showed says the 30th, which is tonight!  So which is it??

Oh Jane what a story.  I pray for that family that they will find their daughter!

I pray, all the time, too Judy!  I've known this family since Sharon (her name is Sharon Rose) was born ... and before.  Leah's grandmother was a very dear friend of mine.  In fact, I named my youngest daughter, Dot, for her ... I know her heart was broken, and she never stopped praying for answers regarding Leah ... her first granddaughter.

I surely hope there is something positive that comes from this.

I recorded AMW so I haven't watched it yet.  Some time this week, I am sure, since I watch the oldest recordings first.

I am all ready for church and the house is all ready for Tony and Charlene to come.  If I never had company, I wouldn't clean house as good!!!

Ivalou hasn't called me yet so I am assuming she is going to church with me.  Yeah!!  I am running the overhead again today and then I can rest for 6 weeks or so.

Looks like a sunny day today but cold...only 14° as I am typing!!
