You must give something to your fellow men--

Morning Devotional...

Scripture: Matthew 7:16
"Ye shall know them by their fruits" KJV

The story is told of a briar growing in a ditch --- it was a tangled mass of prickly plants. There came along a Creative Gardner with his spade. As he dug around it and lifted it up the briar said to itself, "What is this maniac doing? Doesn't he know I am a worthless briar --- I'm a tangled mass of prickly plants that no one is interested in?"

But the Creative Gardner took the briar into his garden and trans-planted it amid his flowers. All the while the briar was saying to itself, "What a mistake he has made planting me among these beautiful roses."

Then the Creative Gardner came once more and made a slit in the briar with his sharp knife. He grafted it with a rose and when summer came lovely roses were blooming all over that old briar. Then the Gardner said in polite conversation to the briar, "How beautiful you have become --- but your beauty is not due to what came out --- but what I put in."

And so it is with my relationship with Jesus. What a tangled mess I am, but for any beauty or fruit at all, it is for what Jesus has put inside me.

Prayer:  Father thank you for sending Jesus to transplant me into what YOU desire. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Janet your story reminded me of this chorus.

BEAUTY FOR ASHES

He gave me beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
That we might be trees of righteousness
The planting of the Lord that He might be glorified.

Janet:  Nice to see your devotion this week.  Grateful for our gifts of internal beauty - roses among the thorns.

Hugs and prayers have been working today and I send thanks to all.  We did go to church and sat at the very end of the aisle and no nosebleeds this entire day so that is really great.  Don wants to go up the hill and work at the cabin but wants to have at least one full day of no nosebleed before he takes off.  He also invited two couples over for breakfast on Thursday - he loves to make biscuits & gravy.

Thank you all for your kind comments on the devotional.

Carol, praise God!  I'm so happy for Don, and for you as well.  May the LACK of nosebleeds continue!

Today is our 29th anniversary!  We didn't do anything special.  I spent the afternoon getting things ready to enter in the fair.  John brought Beth  out, and she wanted to enter some of her things, so I had to find them, then I made out all her cards.  After they left, I decided to get some things ready to enter for myself.  It's surprising how many things I found that were on the list of collections.  You only need three of the items, so that isn't too hard.  I am working Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fri. this week, and working at the fair on Tuesday afternoon, all day Wednesday, and Sat. afternoon.  So I had to have things ready if I am to enter anything!  I finally ran out of entry cards, must get more tomorrow.

I am tired, so will be heading to bed soon.  5 AM comes might early!

Hi, friends, well, it's the end of a nice day.

I had so many comments about last week's reading I've been catching up on. Janet, try to make certain that John has Skype installed on his computer, and that it is activated on Beth's. That way, they can speak with each other completely free on Skype's free internet software.

The only kind of voice activated software I know about is "Dragon", but I have no idea how it works.

Well, it's kinda late, so I'll close for tonight.

May God's richest blessings be on all who come here.

We had the op pertunity to go to Langcaster Pa. to the theater called Millennium owned by Sight and Sound and we saw a live Show called Joseph and it was like it jumped right out of the bible and it is so real and they have real animals  and they gave an invitation at the end it is so wonderful to see people doing this witness for Christ.     All the staff that work there have to give a written testimony before they get hired. We were so impressed. :cp:

Hi everyone.

Janet, thanks for the devotional.  I agree with Curtis that a desktop is probably best so that it doesn't walk off.

I am feeling much better today.  About 6 pm last evening the pain stopped.  This morning I had to go to Home Depot to get a couple of things and decided I would save my energy and not risk bringing back the discomfort so used on the electric carts.  It sure helped as wasn't tired when I finished my shopping.  The aisles are so long in these big stores.

Gord, that live show sounds very good.  Glad you got to see it.

Ruth Ann, I thought about the Dragon voice recognition software and know it works to get words on a document.  However, I wonder about being able to dial Skype or answering Skype.  I am sure such software exists but I haven't been able to locate it with a search.

Janet, hope it cools down a bit this week for you since you are having the fair.  You really have a packed schedule this week.

My only activity for the rest of the day is to go to my Monday men's luncheon.  We don't meet until 1 pm so after we are finished it makes a short afternoon.  The housekeepers were here today so everything is nice and clean and looks great.

Good Morning I have been to the gym and had a good workout. I stayed on the rowing machine for 2.5 minutes. The CD  loop for the amount of time we stay on each machine was the 50 second one when I got there changed it to the 40 second CD. I am working real hard to get rid of the love/fat handles around my midriff so I stayed a looong time on that machine. Going to Yoga class in a half and hour. That is all  so far this morning./

I don't have much on my agenda today, I'll walk the dogs,  sand work on stuff on my computer. It is a beautiful day that the Lord has made. Not overcast  not to hot and not cold the high will be 62°. Perfect weather.
for the ° mark it is  alt zero one seven six.  Alt 0176 on the ten key part of your keyboard.

Hello guys, prayers to all for the new week.

Janet: Thanks for the wonderful verse and story with which to begin a new week. I am all too familiar with "tangled messes" I'm afraid. I praise God that no mess regardless of the tangles is too much for Christ Jesus, my Lord and my Master. That He would reach so low for me, He can and will do it for anyone who seeks Him. Thank you Jesus.

Great devotional, Janet!  We all needed that reminder!

My talk at church was well received.  Several told me, 'Good job!'.  Now let's hope that I inspired others to receive the joy of giving as I have.

When I got home after eating out...no internet.  I made my dessert and went to my nephew's house for Ivalou's birthday.  When I got home...no internet.  I call their number...waited 24 minutes before talking to a human and then was told that my area is down because of a major component for internet that would not be fixed/back until the 20th!  But I noticed I had 4 lights on my modem at around 4pm today and here I am.

I did get my photos all ready to take to the State Fair Saturday.  A couple from the photo guild is bringing her photos for me to take to the fair Saturday also.  My good deed of the year!

It is so humid out...almost feels like rain but it is humidity!  Cooler today.  85°.  Jeanne, I have a Toshiba laptop and there is a Function (FN) button by my CTRL button.  I hold down FN and hit F11 and it turns some off my letter buttons into calculator numbers.  So with the calculator engaged, I hold down ALT and press M, J, 7, O and get °.  Now try to remember that all of you!!  Bet there were some of your VCR's that blinked 12:00 all the time!! Ha!

My company will be here around 6pm. so I had better get ready for them.

Etta Sue, I have that on my Toshiba, too.  But to find the alternatives for the various keys I need a spotlight.  They're on the edge of the keys and light gray against black.  Much easier to type "degrees" and be done with it!   ;D

Etta Sue  You are right.  My radio's and VCR's flash 12:00 all the time or I start pushing buttons, till the flashing stops but the time is wrong all the time!  Mind you we have enough power outages that I really don't worry about it!!!
Title: Re: Thoughts for the Week~July 18
Post by: Janet on July 19, 2010, 10:02:46 PM
And........in the overall scheme of things, does it really matter if we type degrees or * instead of going to all the trouble to get the "Proper" symbol?  Not enough to yell about, methinks.  ;)  I posted just a little while ago, where did it go????  >:(

I found it:  Not many posts today, I see.  I had a terrible night last night, finally got up at 4:30, so felt like a zombie at work; then the other gal didn't show up so I had to work a double shift.  Need I say I am tired?    But the good news is that I don't have to work tomorrow, since I worked longer today.  So I will have more time to get my stuff out to the fair.

And the bad news is that the handicapped van is acting up.  Not the engine, but the door and the ramp.  Now we can't even get the door to close.  John called us and we went to town and helped him get Beth back to the care home (he had taken her out to supper) and then I drove the van home with the back door wide open.  I had to stop and gather up things that were trying to blow out, but I made it okay.  We are hoping someone here can manage to take care of the problem.  Meanwhile, John is afoot.     Not a good time for this to happen.  Not at all.

Son-in-law Jeff is here visiting with us, I need to get off here.

Etta Sue good work on speaking in public!! I couldn't do that!

Janet I am curious.  What all are you entering?

When we lived near Pat , she and I entered some things into a town fair.  It was fun and Pat won on some entries as did my father in law.

I searched for the character map and put a shortcut on the desktop for it. Then, when I want to get a character, I go to the desktop, open the character map, and can usually find it pretty quickly. Then all I have to do is copy and paste it into the text I'm using. Since I have tried for years to learn the various Alt key combinations without success, I surely was relieved to learn of the character map.

Y'all have a good afternoon.

Ruth Ann

How's this look? º

Ruth Ann When I am in Word I can do it and do... But here I cannot remember the combination.  I have written it degree symbol combo down on paper, and promptly loose the paper.  So I have resorted to the * for the symbol.

This is the most I have posted in a LOOOONG time. Good night all!

Hi everyone.  It is going to be hot here today but won't have to be outside after lunch.  Yesterday I bought some chemicals to put a barrier around the house to keep the bugs out.  We have used it for several years and it works very well.  This morning I went to the storage shed and brought the spreader to the house.  Pat then walked around the house spreading it.  When I got home from coffee I took the spreader back to the shed and back to the house and feel very exhausted.  I am going to have to build up some tolerance.

Marilyn, thanks for the info. If it were 62 here I would have to put on a sweather.  :)  I am like some of the others in not being able to remember that function key combinations.  I read something on Seniors & Friends this morning that what I had forgotten I had stored on a disk somewhere.  I think I will also continue to write degree and can do it as quickly as using the sign.

Etta Sue, I just knew you would do well in your talk.  It is always a good feeling when we share some of ourselves with others.

Janet, sorry to hear of the problem with the van.  Do hope it can be locally repaired quickly so John has transportation.

I was nervous talking in front of everyone.  I was shaking.  But everyone that talked to me about it said I didn't look or act nervous.  I remember getting up and telling everyone about Ivalou in the hospital and I choked up and couldn't even talk and was crying.  But I know that was a totally different scenario.

Ruth Ann ~ I had forgotten about the character map and how you can copy and paste.  That would be simpler than changing my keyboard to calculator.  I might try that the next time I need a symbol or fraction.

Today is Euchre day.  I am running behind so I had better run on.

It was another one of those days hot and a lot of errands and yes I will have to be out and about tomorrow doing different errands.  I checked out Wal Mart for a hot & cold bag with a zip in the top all sold out so tomorrow I will check another Wal Mart  it is good to have several within a 20 drive as long as you are in there area to start with.

I am so thankful I got a good night's sleep last night, as had another really hectic day  today.  In fact, I just got home from the fair.  It was 107 here today, but cool in the building, enough that when I went outside it felt good for a couple of minutes.  There sure was a good crowd out there, they had had the turtle races, and I guess a few other things were going on, too.  I was busy taking entries in the art department, so didn't attend any of them.

Tomorrow I will be assisting the judge while she judges.  After we are finished with that, I can go check out the commercial booths, and listen to the entertainment in the big auditorium; then in the evening there is a talent show.

I sure am glad I don't have to work tomorrow!  :)

Ruth, I hope the van will be an easy fix, too, we take it in tomorrow morning.  But they think they may need to order parts.  I hope not.  Not having it available will pretty much ruin Beth's and John's time.   :'(

I still have Windows XP, but the way I do it is to right-click the START button, then choose Search. Type in character map and see what comes up in the search.

Next, if you have the character map (most likely in some of the Windows files), then right-click on the character map and one of your choices will be to make a Shortcut - I choose that and tell the computer to put the Shortcut on my desktop.

And, for good measure, I put it near the bottom of my computer screen so it's easy to spot when I need it. You can get ⅓, ⅛, and other neat characters there.

Use it and have fun! :)

Marilyn, I surely wish I had to abilities you have with the computer.

Larry, do please take care of yourself - we love you.

Love and prayers to everyone.

What should be our attitude in prayer?

Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So he said to Samuel, "Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, 'Yes, Lord, your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went back to bed. And the Lord came and called as before, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel replied, "Yes, your servant is listening."

1 Samuel 3:8-10 NLT

Speak, Lord, in the stillness, while I wait on Thee; hushed my heart to listen in expectancy.
Speak, O blessed Master, in this quiet hour, let me see Thy face, Lord, feel Thy touch of power.
Emily May Grimes

God revealed

God revealed himself mightily to the prophet Elijah, sending fire to burn the sacrifice on Mount Carmel. But later, as Elijah moped on the mountain, the Lord taught him an important lesson. There was a wind, an earthquake, and a fire—but the Lord was not in any of these. Then came a still, small voice. That was how God chose to speak to His prophet.

The same is true today. We long for fire from heaven to silence the skeptics once and for all, but God doesn't usually work that way. Long ago He revealed Himself as a helpless baby sleeping in a dirty feed trough, and today He speaks quietly to ordinary people like you and me—if only we are still enough to listen. That is the sentiment expressed by Emily May Grimes in the words of the hymn, "Speak, Lord, in the Stillness."

Hi everyone.  Just got back from coffee.  It is going to be a very hot day here today (but not up to 107 like Kansas).  I don't have a single thing on the schedule for today and I think it is a good thing.

I spent all afternoon and evening laying down yesterday as couldn't get rid of the pain in the chest.  I will take it very easy today and not do any lengthy walking as that is what brought the pain on yesterday.  So far today am just feeling tired.  Enough complaining.

Pat, sure hope they can have some Internet available for you and Paul before too long.  Do you have a McDonald's anywhere close?  Most of the McDonald's now have free wi-fi and encourage people to bring in their laptops and stay as long as you want. Our McDonald's finally got their Internet working and it is now reliable and quick.  I used it this morning to look up a couple of things.

Janet, sure glad the building was air-conditioned.  It sounds like you really enjoy the fair.

Etta Sue, hope you won at Euchre yesterday.  It has been a long time since I played that game.  We do have it available on the computer in the Hoyle games set.

Ruth Ann, thanks for the kind words.

Ruth, hope you got all your shopping done yesterday that you wanted to do.  We also have several Walmarts reasonably close.  I know of at least four within 10 miles or less.

Thanks for the piece on the "attitude of prayer".

Soap and Water

A minister was asked to dinner by one of his parishioners, who he knew was an unkempt housekeeper. When he sat down at the table, he noticed that the dishes were the dirtiest that he had ever seen in his life.

"Were these dishes ever washed?" he asked his hostess, running his fingers over the grit and grime.

She replied, "They're as clean as soap and water could get them."

He felt a bit apprehensive, but blessed the food anyway and started eating. It was really delicious and he said so, despite the dirty dishes.

When dinner was over, the hostess took the dishes outside and yelled, "Here Soap! Here Water!"

Ruth Ann, You are much more   experienced at the computer than I am , I can only use to make lists and  some times to add things. Maybe??
I use http://www.planetburrito.com/tb/alt_codes.html (http://www.planetburrito.com/tb/alt_codes.html) to get my codes, Some I have memorized.

Well it is time for me to go meet Jane at the gym.  saw myself in a photo that was taken last week and I do not like the way I look so  wrinkled and overweight.

I have been to workout, came home and cleaned the tub in the master bath. That Tub has been used for showers only for so long that the  lever to change the flow of water to the  tub doesn't work anymore, I sprayed it good with WD-40 yesterday but it still won't budge.

I think I am going to take the dogs out for their walks in just a little bit. The wind has been very bad in the afternoons and the weather reports said that the wind is expected to be  25-30 mph all week in the afternoons, It sure plays havoc on my allergies plus it is cold as it is blowing off the water and the temp is only in the low 60's.

I sure have been sleeping good since we moved to the big master bedroom and the queen size bed. It is a lot cooler back there too. In the small master with  the two of us plus the dogs body heat in that room it gets too warm and the bed is my double.
No the dogs are not in bed with us they have their own beds!!

I will be going to California sometime over Labor day, I want to go to my home church, visit with Willa and go to Blue Lake to see Gilbert and family.  Keith will be going to Portland to see his boys  in the next couple of weeks.

GőőD afternoon!

Busy day and just now getting here.  First I went to Perkin's for breakfast.  Then to Pet Supply for cat food.  Then to WalMart.  Why can't I get out of there cheap?  Spent too much money but you can't take it with you!

Thanks, Ruth Ann for reminding me of the character map.  I put it in my Quick Launch area.  So much easier to copy and paste from it than changing my keyboard to a calculator and back.

Thanks, Marilyn for the website at Planet Burrito.  Often wondered how people got those other characters that don't use Alt+.  Not sure how you use it with #&.  It types those for me.  Do you know how to use them?

Just plan to stay in the rest of the day out of the humidity.

Marilyn try spraying the lever with CLR.  That may work.

Long night last night. A dear friend had a problem and I was back and forth with her for a great deal of the night.

How can I make my prayers effective?

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for God's mercy upon them, and give thanks. Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 NLT

Praying effectively

Paul urges Timothy to lift up requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving.

A request is a need, a deep desire for something we don't have—something only God can supply.

A prayer is a word of praise and adoration. A more accurate translation of this word from the original Greek might be to "worship in earnest."

Intercession is praying on behalf of others. Our prayers should regularly reflect this kind of selfless lifestyle.

Thanksgiving involved remembering those past prayers that have already been answered, acknowledging that we not only trust God's supremacy and involvement in our life but also how his hand has moved and guided us in the past.

When we pray effectively, we do more than communicate with God—we commune with him. We become one in mind and spirit and purpose. Today, let the focus of your prayer time be to connect with God in a very real and personal way, not as a slave would petition his master, but as a son would enjoy the company of a loving and gracious father.

I am glued to the window where my computer is.  There is a very small blackberry patch that was just ignored last year - only 4 or 5 bushes.  This year the birds have discovered the dried berries/seeds.  I sit here and watch the catbirds and robins as they land on the thin branches, which dip under their weight.  They flap their wings wildly to get balanced and then quickly grab a bite and leave.  I was going to have that area cleared out, but I'm having second thoughts.   ;)

Phew!  HOT here again today!  The judge for the art was a friend from Dodge City.  We have known each other for probably 30 years, so it was good to see her.  We sure do not see eye to eye on art, though!  So it was an experience.  I just had to keep quiet and mark things as she judged.  Later she asked me if I wanted her to tell me why she chose a couple of things, and I did--She likes things that are sort of crooked, or make you wonder, what in the world IS this?  So it was interesting.  She asked me if I agreed, and I said, absolutely NOT, but you're the judge!  Just more proof that judging boils down to opinion, in the end.

Great news!!  The van is fixed!  And for only $30.00!!  :)  The hinge on the back of the door was broken, and the guy welded it for us.  This makes Beth and John SO happy!!

I did well on my fair entries; I got all blues on my art entries, plus a grand champion, and saw lots of blues and reds on my entries in collections; also a bllue on my scrapbook.  8)

Larry, I am glad you feel some better and that you don't have to do anything today.  I dread going back to work in the morning.

I want to rest a while.

JudyB: Wonderful verse and thoughts. The more time we spend in prayer the nearer we are drawn to Him. In turn, the closer we are to Him the more effective our prayers become. How great is that?

Larry: Sure hope you are feeling much better this evening.

Janet: You should post some pics of your art.

Jeanne Lee: Soap and Water?

GÖÖD Morning!

Today is Ivalou's birthday.  10 months ago, I didn't know if she would be here for her birthday.  Thank God she is.  I don't know what I would do without my sister.  Don't want to think about that.

With that being said, I don't know what today will bring.  Her two daughters are here and I am not sure who else.  We may go out for Ivalou's birthday...may not.  I will just go with the flow!

All I know is yesterday was such a hot, humid day!  Today will probably be the same.

I did put on my cheap sheets on the bed and slept so much better.  Not nearly as hot.

Off and running...well, off anyway!

Hi everyone.  Another hot day here in Georgia.

Etta Sue, when we bought the new bed the other day that lady warned my wife about buying sheets with a high thread count saying they are much warmer.  Since Pat is warm natured she didn't want that.  We have ordered a set of flannel sheets for me as I am always cold and this should work much better than the fleece pieces I have been using for sheets.  Hope Ivalou has a wonderful Birthday today.

Ruth, we seldom see Georgia peaches in our stores here in Georgia.  Guess they are mostly sent elsewhere.

Janet, congratulations on all your blue ribbons plus the others.  I am not surprised having seen the excellent work you do.  I agree with you on judging that involves the opinion of the individual judges.  Sure glad you got the van fixed and for a very reasonable price.

Jeanne, sounds like you have created a bird santuary in your blackberry patch.

What a busy day today! Up early, expecting to eat breakfast with my brother who was in town for his grandson's 3 hr. ear surgery. Poor little guy, now his head is completely wrapped in the pressure bandages including the ones that come down around the chin. And he's only 6.5 years old. Imagine trying to keep a really active little boy who LOVES sports to not be very active and absolutely NO p.e. for the next 2 months. Wow!

At any rate, children's hospital schedulers must not communicate well with the nurses in the surgery center - he was due to be in surgery at 9:30, and finally, the head nurse apologized and told them when scheduling made the change yesterday, they didn't notify surgical about it, so he finally went up, a bit nervous, very hungry, and somewhat fretful at about 11:30. That was a 3 hour surgery!

Well, brother and I finally met and had lunch together. He produced a card with a nice little restaurant gift card, then laughingly said that since it's supposed to be near 100° tomorrow, I'd better not cause a meltdown by blowing out those 70 candles!

Then, got my drivers license renewed for another 5 years.

Then, took my friend and her 2 grandchildren to the Dragon Park to play for 2 hours.

Ate supper with them and took them back home.

Stopped by the church to water flowers, gather trash, etc., and managed to fall down the last 2 steps of the stairs in that empty building. So, I sat there on the floor until I felt like getting up, and thought, "H-E-L-P, I've fallen and I can't get up... ummmm, since I don't have one of those monitor things, I'd just better trust the Lord to help me to make it up on my own." Of course, He did, and now I'm ready to lie down with ice to that lump on my head.

Gracious!! Busy, busy day.

G'night, friends. Much love to all.

Ruth Ann

Good morning! It has been a busy week. I have my 16 year old grandson visiting for the week and still have been trying to keep my clients happy. Up to today, I've been doing alright and am just waiting for some figures to finish off a payroll report.

Ruth Ann!!!  You fell.... ALONE!!!.... in the empty church!!  Thank you, Lord for looking after her and pray that she had a good night's rest.

God bless you all. I did get to sit down for a tea with JudyB, last Monday and we are talking of making it a more often occurrence.

Happy Birthday,
Ruth Ann!!

Ruth Ann ~ Sounds like you know now what some of us have been saying, 'I don't know when I had time to work!'  It's a good feeling, isn't it?  So sorry about the fall!

Larry ~ I believe it that the higher thread count on bed linens are hot!  Some say they like them because they are softer.  I would like slicker sheets like I had for the old mattress but I just can't seem to find them.  Maybe it is my expensive mattress pad that still holds in the heat??  Hmmm!!

I am all ready to take Ivalou to the heart doctor today for him to say, well, you are doing good.  Whatever you are doing, keep it up!

Then we will probably go out to eat somewhere.

As soon as I get home I am to call Kitty and we are going to go swimming.  I need a workout!  Get the kinks out!

Another scorching day in Indiana today.  And it isn't August yet!

Hi everyone.  We are suppose to have a heat index of well over 100 degrees today.  I do have to be out in it briefly from about 10:30 to 2:00.  Where I am going should be air-conditioned and the car is after it cools down.

We had a very nice group of 12 men at coffee at the senior center this morning.  One of the men brought pound cake that his wife and had and it was very good and nice and moist.  For a number of years we always had donuts on Friday morning but a few years ago decided to stop that as there were a number of diabetics and none of us needed them.  We each took our turn in buying the donuts.

Ruth Ann, concerned that you fell and there was no one about.  I hope you will consider only being at the church when someone else is there to help you if needed.  Glad you were able to spend a little time with your brother. A belated Happy Birthday.

Marilyn, that is a very pretty card you made for Ruth Ann.

Etta Sue, hope Ivalou gets a good report from the heart doctor and that you get to go swimming this afternoon.  On such a hot day the water should feel especially good.

RuthV, are you an accountant?  Hope you have a nice time with your grandson this week.

Hello Larry: Not a CA or a C.G.A., although took some of the courses at University level. My expertise is mostly gained from working in the financial field from 1962 - 2004. I was really happy to be able to supply help to small businesses in the area.... mostly in the bookkeeping capacity.

Having a wonderful time with my grandson. My daughter is doing a wonderful job!!  Next week I may have one of the other three; ages, almost eight, ten and thirteen.

Ruth When Sarah comes to visit perhaps her and Kassie can spend some time together......Maybe they can go to Georges for an afternoon.  If that is a possibility, make sure she has her swim suit with her.

Ruth Ann  Be careful of those falls!  At our age we can't afford to fall!

Larry Kassie loves her fleece sheets.  She uses them summer and winter!  Glad you are feeling a bit better....

Etta Sue wish Ivalou a happy birthday from all of us here!

Jeanne I would pick those berries before the birds had the chance....I love blackberries!

RuthG It is always nice having company, it is also nice to have them go home.

I was going to work in the garden, but it looks like rain.  Well needed!

How can I deal with feelings of hopelessness?

"The truth is that you will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Jeremiah 29:10-11 NLT

A future and a hope

Jeremiah 29:11 is a favorite verse of many, but it comes in a context that may add even greater meaning.

It appears in the middle of the prophet's announcement. The people of Israel were going to spend a long exile away from their homeland—70 years—as God's discipline. After that, God would return them to the land. In other words, God had a plan for their future.

Our sinfulness often leads to dismal situations and feelings of despair. But we must always remember that hopelessness does not come from God. God is the author of hope. Even the Exile, with its seeming hopelessness, was part of God's long-range plan for his people. And his plans were good.

If you are facing hopelessness, you may be inheriting the results of some other person's sinful decisions and actions. Or you may be reaping your own bad rewards. You may not have really discovered the hope that is found in God's love for you through Jesus Christ. Reject despair and seek out God's plan—and his hopes—for you.

Ruth Ann I am so sorry you  fell in an empty church. God took good care of you, now you just better be careful all the time.

Keith came home yesterday and ask me if I wanted to go out to dinner  Saturday night. Well it turns out it is a fancy dinner in the Bear room at the local casino. The main course if Filet Mignon and Lobster. Fancy schmancy stuff. A client of Keith's is  picking up the tab and there will be  other people there too, contractors, secretaries, wives etc. I can't decide what I am supposed to wear.  A dress? or Dress pants and a nice top. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Judy, you will be right over?  For the  :-* or the raisin pie?

Oh, Ruth Ann!  I am so sorry about your fall.  But so glad you weren't 'alone' in the church; God was there with you.  Hope the knot on your head is better today.  And Happy Birthday a bit late.  I notice I am using the handrails a lot more these days, just as insurance.  Falls are NOT NICE.

Marilyn, people wear all kinds of clothes in  casinos, but I would think either a nice pants suit or a dress would do very nicely.  Add some pretty jewelry, and you're good to go!  Have fun!

I worked this morning, came home, took a little nap.  I need to call for an appointment with our doctor, so I can get prescriptions re-written and lab tests done before he leaves.  We are so, so sorry to see him go.  :'(

I think I will go out to the fair again this afternoon and look more closely at the commercial exhibits.  I went to the BBQ and the christian music program last night, very nice.  We had the Torres Family, from Wichita.

He comes the mail carrier!

Can't linger long.  Things to do today.

Four of us are taking our photos and other's photos to the State Fair grounds today.  And it has become traditional that we eat at Don Pablo's for lunch the same day.  So Don...here we come!

Then this evening, I plan to go to Tony and Charlene's.  Mainly to see Makena, Charlene's grand-daughter that is 7 months old that I have never seen yet!  Sad, isn't it?  And Charlene loaned me two movies so I am taking them back also.

Yesterday Ivalou got a heart monitor to wear for the weekend.  It seems her heart was beating too fast yesterday so a weekend will let them know if it is all the time or only a Doctor Syndrome.

We didn't eat out!!  Can you believe that?  So I had a salad here at home and Kitty came and we went swimming.  It is getting so much easier now.  And we swim inside in the lap pool.  The outside is jammed with kids now!!

When I got home, I mowed the grass.  Heat index of over 100°.  But it is done for another 6-7 days.  The grass is growing so fast this year.  I think it is due to the dew we have....  :roflBig:

Off and running....well, off anyway!

Hi everyone.  It is late afternoon and it has been a busy day.  After coffee this morning I went to Kroger's and then Pat and I went down to Atlanta and picked up Stacey so she can spend the weekend with us.  On the way home we stopped at a buffet for a big lunch.  It was about 2:30 before we got home.  I think we were all tired and so we each took a nap.  In a few minutes I am leaving for an evening event where we will have a big pot-luck dinner and then a program.

Tomorrow we are planning on going to church.  The church has a wheelchair so will use it rather than have to deal with the transport chair.

Etta Sue, we have never eaten at a  Don Pablo's but think there is one not far from here.  There are so many eating places around our area.

Marilyn, have a great time at the fancy dinner.  Can't beat when someone else is buying.

Hi, friends, I think all the birthdaying yesterday made me really tired, so I rested most all day today. Then got the PowerPoint files ready for tomorrow's worship.

Now, of course, I'm enjoying the conversations here with y'all. The spot on my head is sore, but not swollen any more and I have a beautiful set of bruises on my left lower arm. Will probably wear a 3/4 sleeved top to minimize concern at church tomorrow. :)

Y'all take care. And thank you so much for the work you put in to make those great greetings. God bless you every one.

Last evening I went to Tony's.  Makena came about the same time as I did.  She only had a 35 minute nap so it was predicted that she would have a crying evening.  She didn't.  She played and played and soon grandma gave her a bath and she was out like a light.  I did hold her and almost got her to sleep and then Tony made a noise that woke her up.  Babies are so precious!

Off to church now and then who knows what.  Just avoiding Indy today since today is the Brickyard 400!

Do you seek the counsel of others?

My child, listen to me and treasure my instructions. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and understanding. Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly. He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity.

Proverbs 2:1-7 NLT

Accepting advice

The degree to which people will listen is determined by the degree to which we have wise counsel for them. If you want people to listen to you, you yourself must listen to the right adviser. Like Samuel, listen to the Lord's counsel—read his Word and hear what he says. There is no wiser counselor than he who knows every moment of every tomorrow and knows how you will fit into those moments.

If you think you know it all, you probably know less than you think. If, in humility, you recognize how much help and counsel you need, you will likely seek it and get it. No one wants to waste time counseling a fool, because the fool doesn't want counsel. We all enjoy sharing wisdom with the wise, and when we do, we discover new wisdom for our own needs. Proverbs 14:7 tells us that we should stay away from fools if we are looking for wise counsel.

Hi everyone.  Will just stop by today as it is going to be a busy day for us, at least this morning.  We will attend church in a little while and then so lunch.  It is going to be an extremely hot day here in Georgia with the heat index well about 100 degrees.

Summicron - Michael:  I do hope that you are not leaving us.  Don't delete everything, please.

We could not make church this morning as Don had a nosebleed.  Still, we have hope that this is settling down with the two procedures he has had in two weeks.  At least it isn't a daily event.

Larry:  Yes, please save your strength & take the easy ride whenever possible.  Enjoy your weekend with Stacey.  It sounds like a good day to stay indoors in Georgia.

We had a lovely rain on Friday night, and it was cloudy all day yesterday, giving us welcome relief from the awful heat.  It really made for a nice day for the fair parade, too.  I had to go out and release the entries in the art department, and pick up all my and Beth's entries from the fair.  Beth won $13.00 in premiums, and I won $123.  So that made it worth the work and time.

Beth and John are really enjoying their time together, I am sorry it has to end so soon.  We have to take him to meet his plane next Saturday.  I hope he won't have to wait a whole year to come back.

This week I will be judging at fairs in two other counties, so it will be pretty busy again.

Hello to everyone.  I'm not feeling very talkative today.

I know I don't post much; but I do read and learn from so many of you.

Today, reading the last post saddens me deeply.

I hope the postings, especially in Manna for the Soul will still stay..You can not imagine how you help people..even when you say things that make people ponder.  They question and seek GOD's wisdom and learn to love our Heavenly Father more ...

Do you really want to take that wisdom/and words that GOD has placed in your heart to share with others away...

Please if you're hurting, seek help and stop and think what the Lord is saying in your heart.

If you feel uneasy about something, ask...my prayers are for more understanding and guidance for your decision.

If you are comfortable with your decision ; then know my prayers are with you and I wish you well.

I had crazy, crazy dream last night and this morning my bible study reflected on one of the words that I think we all need to hear "mercy"

I posted the study in "manna for the soul" for you to review if you like

Us ladies had a wonderful lunch after church and Sunday School yesterday.

Then Inky and I had a nap!  Getting to be a Sunday afternoon tradition!

Kitty called around 4:30pm to see if I wanted to go 'cemetery-ing'.  She is to have a photo display for Madison County, Indiana, Visitor's Center in October.  October...Halloween...Scary...Cemeteries.  So she has been photographing tombstones in each of the 14 townships.  Adams was the last township so I navigated while she piloted.

I was home by 7pm and fell asleep while watching TV.  So I went to bed early.

Today Ivalou and I took her heart monitor back to the doctor's office.  Then we ate breakfast out at a small restaurant.  So good.  You sure could tell the pancakes were not made from a mix and Ivalou said the biscuits and gravy were to die for!

Then we have a 'Deals' store that has items you can't find anywhere else and at very good prices.  I was a big spender...$2.  Then Ivalou wanted some wild bird seed so we went next door and she got some safflower bird seed.  I got cat litter.  So we are all set for a while!

Now to make some images to upload to the computer at church before Sunday!
