Morning Devotional...The Gettysburg Address
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
November 19, 1863
On June 1, 1865, Senator Charles Sumner commented on what is now considered the most famous speech by President Abraham Lincoln. In his eulogy on the slain president, he called it a "monumental act." He said Lincoln was mistaken that "the world will little note, nor long remember what we say here." Rather, the Bostonian remarked, "The world noted at once what he said, and will never cease to remember it. The battle itself was less important than the speech."
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

After church and a small lunch with friends, the kids from Atlanta called and I had the rest of my lunch with them at the marina. Then, we were out on their big pontoon boat all afternoon. What a lovely time with all of them!
I surely wish they lived closer than Atlanta! :)

What a wonderful day yesterday! Everything went well. There were lots of little glitches that could have bothered us a lot before the wedding but all was just fine. Paul's little grandchildren sang, "The Bible Stands" and were fantastic.

We are packed and ready to drive tomorrow, first to the Twin Cities and then on to Duluth. I am speaking of Minnesota. Way north to a lake that doesn't want to give up the frozen bits of ice. Don has several cousins and an elderly auntie he wants to visit and we will take them out for dinner if they can be mobile. They look forward to his tender care every couple of years and keep in touch with letters and phone calls. We may have to drive to a casino to get near any wi-fi for the laptop - no, I won't go in and gamble even one nickel.

Hi everyone. It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day for the last day of this holiday weekend. I have a luncheon planned with two men friends but other than that not much on my schedule today. I have a little web work to do in posting some pictures from our Golden Games that were just completed.
Yesterday we sent several hours with our daughter. We got her a new desk chair with arms for her computer and had to assemble it. Her sprained ankle is better and hopefully she won't reinjure it this week.
Her mother did three loads of laundry for her as she really couldn't manipulate the stairs with the crutches and would have had trouble getting all of her clothes to the laundry room in the basement of her apartment building. I tried to get her set up to use Skype on her computer but couldn't get the microphone to work. Probably some silly something I wasn't doing right. The speaker part worked fine. I also put the free AVG 8.0 on her computer as she wasn't running a anti-virus program on her computer. It needs a lot more maintenance as is running very slowly but we ran out of time and didn't get home until after 7 pm.

Carol, hope you and Don have a good drive to Minnesota and a nice visit. Don't get too cold up in the far north country. :)
Janet, it has been a long time since I read the Gettysburg Address. Thanks for making that our devotional this week. Our nation seems to forget these days that we are a nation under God and we see the result of that thinking all around us in the destruction of our society and family lives.
Janet, hope you don't have to work too hard today and tomorrow or cause more damage to your hand. Your get together over the weekend sounded like a lot of fun and those hugs are very important.
We spoke with our son last evening and he said our oldest great grandchild fell on a stick yesterday morning. They took him to the hospital and that hospital transferred him by ambulance to the children's hospital. They feared he had done internal damage but test showed he probably just brusied the abdomen. They were keeping him in the hospital overnight for observation but by last evening he was feeling much better.
Marilyn, it was nice of Keith to wash and wax your car.

The cookout in the woods was great even though there was only 6 of us there. It got windy and chilly so we came back to the house. Funny, it wasn't windy here.
The 500 Race is over. I did get to watch it live on indycar.com on a 3" screen. It was live but not like TV. What do they call that when it is a few frames then it stops, then a few more frames, etc. Jumpy but I did see the cars go around the track. Then us Hoosiers could watch the entire race at 8pm! After the fact! Tonight is the awards ceremony. Lots of money leaving Indiana.
Ivalou asked me over for a strange lunch today. Her words. She made a chicken broccoli stovetop stuffing casserole and leftovers from last night and Euchre. I thought it was very good and now I have dinner for tonight also.
My friend, Judy, sent me an email. Her computer was down and she got a new laptop. We are going out for breakfast in the morning.
I did do some yard work early this morning but now it is sprinkling outside. Sounds like a great time for a nap! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

We are having the usual mix of warm/cool/wet weather. I have been fighting a virus for days now and mostly inside resting. The kids are leaving tomorrow for a short holiday, so got my daughter some Cold FX to take and it seems to be working. Has been approved by Canada Health so seemed safe. Too late for me as I was already ill.
Watching more TV than usual and saw the Fifth Estate (CDN) and was in shock afterwards.
Cruel Camera
Twenty-five years ago, Bob Mckeown and a fifth estate crew stunned the country with an investigative report that showed that many of the wildlife documentaries we'd grown up watching on television (remember the famous footage of the lemmings going off the cliff or some of the memorable moments from shows like Wild Kingdom?) were staged for the television cameras. As well, they revealed that animals often died during the making of movies; all for the sake of the entertainment value.
Now, Bob McKeown and an investigative team have returned to the subject to find out what has changed since the fifth estate's first Cruel Camera documentary. What they found may astonish you.
I think my viewing has been permanently changed after this show. It seems that even the Wolf doc. done by IMAX was also staged. Suggest anyone interested in animal shows go here and watch: G

Arrghh! We have severe storms in our area again tonight--big hail, etc. Over 59 tornadoes in Kansas yesterday. There is a big storm near Johnson right now, that is only 22 miles from us. I pray we escape this round, too.
Our pastor's message yesterday was so good. He preached on, "Freedom Isn't Free," And correlated that to the fact that neither is our freedom spiritually free; it cost God His only Son, and Jesus His life. I was thinking about all of that when I chose to use Lincoln's Gettysburg Address for the devotional.
I just watched part of a wonderful program on George W. Bush, narrated by Janet Parschal. How blessed we are to have a true Christian and man of faith as our President. I wish all of you could watch that program, it gives a new appreciation and respect for our President.

It was so still here today we all thought we might be dreaming, but so enjoyable. Rachel (the other cook today) and I took our lunch outdoors and ate. Now the thunder is rumbling, and the warnings are flying. But it surely was nice while it lasted!

I'm back to tell you that a tornado and softball sized hail is heading directly toward Greensburg, Kansas. That's the town that was virtually deatroyed by a devastating tornado just last year!! My goodness! I am praying it doesn't get hit again!

We had a rare occurrence down here-a funeral on a holiday. One of the members of our church passed away Saturday morning, and the funeral was at 11 am today. A few ladies (including me) cooked the after funeral meal for the family and mourners that is traditional at our church. Now, I'm plenty tired and ready to rest the remainder of the day.
Thankfully, the hard storms waited to begin until after the mourners had gathered in the church fellowship hall for the meal.
I have a private little matter to request prayer for. Thank you for your support and prayers even though I can't reveal the problem.

The storm seems to have missed poor Greensburg, but there are still plenty of them bouncing around the state, and down into Oklahoma. Oklahoma has gotten hammered pretty hard this year, too.

Hi everyone. I had an enjoyable day yesterday. Where my two friends and I had planned on having lunch was closed but the buffet across the street from it was open so we ate there. I then had a quiet afternoon.
I don't have too much on my schedule today. I have a meeting to attend this morning and may see if I can get my car in Midas to have them check my brakes. I called them and they wanted about $80 less to fix my brakes than the dealer.
Yesterday afternoon a friend of Pat's (and mine), who had dropped her sewing machine and broke it a few days ago, came by and she and Pat sewed up some place mats that our friend was working on. Pat has a portable sewing machine so set it up in the kitchen and so both of them could sew at once so the project didn't take long.
I spent the evening watching a very interesting PBS series called Carrier that is based on life on the USS Ninitz aircraft carrier. There are 5 thousand in the crew. It is an interesting view into a slice of life most of us would never see. There are at least 5 hours in one hour segments and I have more to watch.
Janet, certainly glad the storms escaped you. I would certainly recommend a weather radio. I have one but didn't have it set up correctly until yesterday. I had put a wrong code in the programming so it wasn't working correctly. Hope you enjoyed the Indiana Jones movie.
Ruth Ann, those lunches after funerals are certainly a nice thing to do. I know my folks church did that for us and it gave us a time to visit with many relatives we wouldn't have had the opportunity to visit with a the funeral.

Good Morning, I arrived back home about 5PM yesterday. The trip down the coast was nice, not much traffic coming south, more was going north. There was fog after I got into California a little bit of fog now and then in Oregon.
The dogs were sure glad to see me, the about wagged their tails right of their little behinds. :)

I think I spoiled Keith pretty much while I was in Oregon. With the cooking and and waiting on him. Well he spoiled me too.

We got home late saturday night or early Sunday Morning depending on your view. We were both tire, and I wondered where one of the dogs were when John drove in the drive. Dexter the rotti broke his lead and pushed a basement window open and spent a portion od the time we were away in the house. He is not a Joke, and it is rather frustrating behaviour we are dealing with.
John had to leave for work after supper on Sunday and Iwent to bed shortly after he left. Last night was the laast small group meeting for this year, we restart in September with a BBQ in the country.
Sunday one of the puppies died, there were problems with it, and there would have been life long vet bills. The puppies are big. Really big. Thankfully Mommy has a lot of milk.
I have read all the posts, I am not taking the time to comment on each of them. Just know I rejoice with the safety of the weekend and continue to pray for the needs represented here.
Today is another busy day at work and Iam struggling over an order. so I had better get on with it.

The movie was disappointing, but I think young folks would enjoy it more, or probably we would if we rented it and watched it at home. They play them so LOUD that you (we) can't understand the conversations, and thus lose much of the story line. It is a very fast-paced movie, for sure. The only preview they showed that I have any interest at all in seeing is the new Narnia one, Prince Caspian.
We are still struggling with that leaking shower. Thought it was fixed, but not. So my poor clothes are still laying on the bed getting all wrinkled. Good time to weed them out, if I can find the time.
I'm working again today, going to Liberal tomorrow, teaching Thursday, working Friday, helping Pat with her garage sale Saturday, and leaving Sunday afternoon for my once a year painting class in Fowler. When I get home, only a very few days until Reunion. Whew! :o Hope we can be ready. But I guess whatever doesn't get done, the world will keep on turning.

I had a nice breakfast with Judy. Seems she got her laptop Saturday so is still learning. She said she would call me to come help her with it. It is wireless and she must be using her neighbors ISP!! She can get on the internet but doesn't have her own ISP! Hope her neighbor isn't dial up!
Tonight Ivalou and I go to Beef and Boards and see 'Peter Pan'. Wonder how they are going to get Peter Pan to fly? I am going to be leery in what I eat. let me try this again i thought i had posted last night but i guess not.
HELLO ALL! i'm still alive and well but been BUSY BUSY BUSY i thought that summer would allow time for rest and friends but the boss just dumped a lot more hours in my lap and said this is your summer schedule. OH WELL. All the storms are completely missing cimarron county. we are a very dry area in severe drought they are talking worse than any year in recorded history with less than .5 inches so far this year :(. please pray for moisture to come to the area! anyways hope all is well congulations pat and paul. praying for those who request it!

Hi everyone. We are anticipating some rain later in the day, which we really need. Sarah, you aren't the only place with drought, although we have certainly had more rain than you have.
Today is Bible study and it will be the first time is about three weeks I have been able to attend. I am not sure what we are studying now. Then tonight I have choir practice.
Yesterday I had an interesting experience. I think I mentioned that when I had my Hyundai in for service to the dealer last week the service manager told me my front brakes were gone and the rotors needed to be ground down and the back brake rotors needed to be turned. Well yesterday afternoon I took it to Midas thinking I would have the work done if they agreed. However, after taking off the tires and checking the brakes the mechanic came to me and said he would do what I asked but it wasn't needed and that my brakes were fine and still had at least 50 percent of the life of the brakes left. So I certainly wasn't going to have them changed. Needed to say my confidence in my dealer has taken a huge plummet.
Sarah, you appear to be about the busiest young person I know of as you carry a very heavy schedule. I think we are going to have to shake you and Janet up in a sack as she is certainly a busy older person. There must be something about western Kansas!!
Etta Sue, there is apparently nothing illegal or unethical about using a neighbors wi-fi signal if it is not protected. We were told this by the head service person at MicroCenter last year. However, usually it is a weak signal. There have been a few times when I have had to do that when my system wasn't working and I could get a signal from a neighbor.
Janet, I have heard or read some other views that the movie you saw wasn't the best. I think I will wait and catch it on DVD. It is certainly frustrating to have something leaking and not be able to find the source. Water can do so much damage.
Judy, sorry to hear of the loss of your puppy but nature tends to take care of situations like you describe. Glad you had a safe trip home.

Good Morning, I thought I would get around to coming back to post again yesterday but I was pretty busy after I got home from work. I walked the dogs, went to K-Mart to buy a swim suit (on sale 40% off), cleaned up the dog mines in the yard, then I mowed front and back yards, took a shower, washed my hair, and put on a big pot of veggie beef soup. After that I slowed down to catch up on all that I missed on SN, changed my membership in my two yahoo groups to receive mail again, and I'm-ed with Keith until 8:45 then went to bed.

I read, but didn't comment, of the loss of one of Judy's puppies. I, too, had some sad news to report but didn't want to put a pall on the festive mood following Pat and Paul's wedding.
Two of those cute little swans, that y'all saw Nita's photos of, have died. I watched one struggle and die just outside my window on Saturday then, when we (the neighbors and I) were fetching it from the lake, another died in much the same fashion at the other end of the lake. Now there is only one. I notice the parents keep a very close watch on this only child now, tho.
We are experiencing Spring showers this morning ... heavy mist? A lot of dampness that's for sure. Sorry I can't package it and ship it to Sarah and Larry and others who need it. I guess all y'all will just have to come get some of it for yourself. Bring a big bucket. :D

Not sure, Scotty. The management is taking them to have that determined. There were no wounds on either of them and the one I saw just seemed to be choking and acting sick for a while before giving up. I heard that's the same way the other one acted just before dying. :(
It is always sad when a part of creation dies. I am so glad there are so many here who love His creation and are saddened when there is death. Yes Jane how/why did they die?
The rest of our puppies are doing well. BIG and fat. They will outsize mommy I do believe.
Our gas prices are out of site. $1.32/liter or about $5.00 a US gallon. The price went up seven cents in one day...ouch. The unfortunate thing is the higher the cost of fuel goes the higher everything we use and buy rises. Everything we own and touch is moved from point A to point B by truck and the truck fuel has risen as well. Most of what we in Canada pay is a fuel tax. I wish the Government would put a cap on the tax.

Good afternoon. The 'Peter Pan' musical was great. There is one performer that performed in several shows so far. He is tall, buggy-eyed...at least, can make his eyes buggy. He is hilarious. He played the father AND Captain Hook. He made the musical into a musical comedy! Great show!

We have had misty/moisty and cool weather the past two days. Late this afternoon the sun came out. I was really enjoying the cool, but needed a sweater at 55 degrees, down from 90! That's Kansas!

We spent the day in Liberal. Got business taken care of, photos printed, shopped for all non-perishable foods for reunion, and then sat for nearly two hours in my doctor's office. She had an emergency and was at the Emergency room at the hospital, but quickly attended the many patients waiting not so patiently in her crowded waiting room. She is a wonderful doctor. She says the pain in my hand(s) is coming from higher up, in my neck area, and prescribed some nerve medicine which I am to take at night. Our grandson Mark is moving into an apartment, so we now have the opportunity to get rid of---I mean SHARE some excess furniture, bedding, lamps, dishes, etc. His parents are taking it up to him on Saturday. I wish I could go, but cannot at this time.
Larry, I'm going to pretend I'm on vacation next week while at my painting class! I need one! And I so love to paint. Dee and I will stay at the country bed-and-breakfast we enjoy, and Mary (the owner) spoils us rotten. We love it! :)

Hi, friends, I'm in from a busy day at work and then dinner with my daughter. How nice it is when she's happy. Today she wanted to really celebrate - she's paid off her auto and received the title in the mail today. :)
I'm dealing with lots of questions from my major client. They've begun to ask "who's gonna..." when you're gone??? So, I'm trying my best to help them sort it out. I have a feeling that "mass" meeting of 2 levels of regional management plus senior guys and gals in mid July will be pretty heavily involved with lots of what ifs.
Marilyn, so glad you're really enjoying life these days. Hope that if God wills it, the relationship will work out to His glory and to the best for each of you. I'll bet the doggies were REALLY glad to see you. ;D
It really saddens me to learn of the deaths of God's creatures, too. It will certainly be interesting to know what made the signets die.
Larry, my daughter was just telling me about pointing out to a firm that changed her oil and all the other stuff they do for a supposedly top-notch job, and she caught them in saying they had completed their checkup and found no problems, yet, the one who did the work admitted he didn't check certain things. So, they ended up replacing her back windshield wiper free, upgrading additional oil changes, and other things I can't remember right now. We really do need to be concerned a bout the level of service that we're paying for, don't we.
My parents, on the other hand, trained me from an early age that I must "be a workman worthy of my hire" as I'm admonished in scripture to do. Not too long ago I was speaking with a former client who complimented my attention to detail and I felt impressed to answer with that phrase. He ended up asking for the scripture reference, and we looked it up in Bible.com.

HOME yay... been a busy day at work life of the assistant manager i guess (early to work late to leave :() anyways i still have 1 more year of college til i graduate but not looking forward to it but yet in a way i am i dunno. anyways hope all is well it actually attempted to rain (moisture fell from the sky) more or less it sprinkled but gotta start somewhere right? anyways i must get to bed and get some sleep tomorrow is a day off work but i still need to clean this dirty dirty house... Hi everyone on a overcast Thursday morning in Georgia. They predicted rain all day but none has appeared.
We had a nice day yesterday by first attending Bible study with the pastor, then we went with friends to Dunkin' Donut, while freezing in the cold temps at that place as usual, had a nice time visiting with our friends. The men always sit together and the ladies together. Yesterday we had to admonish the ladies as they were having such a good time we couldn't hear each other to talk.
Then Pat and I ate at a buffet called Baby Jane's. The food was good and the price was really good, only $5.49 for seniors. I don't think you can afford to feed yourself at home for that considering the large variety of vegetables and other foods available.
We then had a quiet afternoon. I watched a movie called "Glory Road", which is the true story of Don Haskins and the Texas Miners. He was a young basketball coach who recruited seven black players and molded the team, after a lot of hardships, into a national champion. I thought it was a very good movie.
Finally, I had choir practice last evening. Our choir director sings in a chamber music group and they have a concert this Saturday night that she invited us to attend. Several of us are going to meet at the church and take the church van to the concert. I am looking forward to it as the one I attended yesterday was excellent. These are all trained musicians and they use a small chamber orchestra to accompany the choir.
Today I am taking a elderly friend for a medical followup appointment. He isn't well and not up to driving himself. It is about a 20 mile trip from his house to Emory Medical Complex. I don't have any other commitments for the day.
Janet, glad you are going to be able to get away and just do something that you really enjoy and will have time to rest for several days.
Jane, sorry to hear about the swans. Sometimes nature seems very cruel but that is a part of the circle of life.

Topsy-turvy day! I wasn't planning on doing anything but getting my sewing machine out and mending a few things. But Ivalou called and asked if I had had lunch. No. She had an appointment at 1 to get a heart monitor at the cardiologist and some new pads at the cardio-som place for her sleep machine and wanted to know if I wanted to go with her and eat Chinese afterwards.
In the meantime, Barb called and asked when could we go out to eat for Kaye Don's birthday, Saturday 31st. I told her I could go anytime. Ask Ivalou. So after Ivalou got the heart monitor she is to take it back tomorrow afternoon. So we are going for Chinese this evening for Kaye Don's birthday. Ivalou and I had Arby's for lunch.
Barb had said that they were going to mow but I wasn't planning on mowing until tomorrow. But it is suppose to rain tomorrow. Ivalou asked the heart doctor if she could mow. NO! So I mowed Ivalou's front yard and mine. Barb mowed Ivalou's back yard.
Then in for the second shower for today!

Hi kids. Good to read all your postings. I don't have much to add.
Today was Mom's birthday, she is 92. She is in good health, says she doesn't have an ache or a pain. (Wish I could say that!) They have a party once a month for all the birthdays in that month, and today was the day, so after I got my ladies started painting, I went in for about 45 minutes for the party. I think there were 5 birthday people this month there.
I am so tired today I can barely function, so I'm about to take one of those Lyrica pills the Dr. prescribed for me yesterday and go to bed. I sure hope I sleep, because I have to work tomorrow, beginning at 6 AM. If I don't start getting more sleep, I will have to give up the job, I guess.

Hi everyone. Pat and Paul, I was certainly hoping you would share more of your wedding pictures when you had a little time. The word "radiant" also came to my mind as I looked at the pictures and saw you both in the joy of the moment. It was also nice to see some of the other family members pictures that we have heard about over a period of time. You both have very lovely families.
Had a quiet day yesterday other than taking my friend for his doctor's appointment, which was uneventful. I was home by noon and had a quiet afternoon.
Pat and I have a meeting to attend this morning and then will go out to lunch with the group. Nothing else on the schedule for today.
Janet, alarmed to hear about how tired you are. I am sure your husband is very concerned as well. Please do what you need to do to take care of yourself. It sounds like your mother is one of those persons blessed with very good health--what a blessing.

First of all, I loved all the wedding pictures and Pat....you are beautiful!! I loved seeing less of you. You have really lost some weight! Love does that, I guess!
Well, on the way back from Chinese, we were on a straight county road. There were 2-3 bicyclist on the road. Kaye Don went to pass and looked in the rearview mirror and saw a car passing him going lickety-split. Kaye Don turned back to the right and put on his brake barely missing a biker. The guy sped on past. Kaye Don sped up and caught up with the guy. At a stop sign, he pulled beside the guy and put the windows down. He said, 'Do you realized you just about wiped us all out?' The guy said, 'I didn't see the bikers until I passed you.' I told him, 'That's because you were going way too fast for any highway!' He got mad, turned right and sped towards Lapel.....while a little boy (2-3 years old) was in the front seat with no seat belt on!!! Grrr!

Cold again this morning. The weather is warm one minute and like fall the next. I was out feeding the bunnies yest. and had to go back in and put on a warm jacket. Started out in a light sweater and was warm...no I am not that slow, the weather changes that fast!
The kids are coming back tonight and I am surely glad. Think pretty soon they are going to need a sitter for me and all the animals. I am plumb tuckered!

It was really nice today. I was able to finish the back yard and part of the front and side. My yards are pretty big, and the grass had gotten so high that I felt I was haying rather than mowing. I'd like to finish up tomorrow and then to the weed eater. Fun, fun, fun...

"Like a shock of corn fully ripe" (Job 5:26).
A gentleman, writing about the breaking up of old ships, recently said that it is not the age alone which improves the quality of the fiber in the wood of an old vessel, but the straining and wrenching of the vessel by the sea, the chemical action of the bilge water, and of many kinds of cargoes.
Some planks and veneers made from an oak beam which had been part of a ship eighty years old were exhibited a few years ago at a fashionable furniture store on Broadway, New York, and attracted general notice for the exquisite coloring and beautiful grain.
Equally striking were some beams of mahogany taken from a bark which sailed the seas sixty years ago. The years and the traffic had contracted the pores and deepened the color, until it looked as superb in its chromatic intensity as an antique Chinese vase. It was made into a cabinet, and has today a place of honor in the drawing-room of a wealthy New York family.
So there is a vast difference between the quality of old people who have lived flabby, self-indulgent, useless lives, and the fiber of those who have sailed all seas and carried all cargoes as the servants of God and the helpers of their fellow men.

Hi Nita and Jane y-all were up late last night. I did my mowing earlier in the week. Keith will mow again next weekend when he comes down. He will be borrowing my electric weedeater. He doesn't like to use the gas kind, I have one of those too, but I have never used it, too heavy. There was no sun here yesterday at at all.
I went to Eureka yesterday to the Chiropractor and it is great to leave home hurting and come back pain free. Hallelujah. I should have gone on to Winco to get a few groceries, but didn't realize how much I really needed, didn't make a list. Now I need to make a list and do my shopping here.
Happy looks like an entirely different dog now an he is also a lot more active and not so lazy. He loves taking his walks but now he sort of prances along like he is showing off. Hard to believe he is 11 years old. He also doesn't look like he is so fat without all that fur, still overweight tho'.
I actually slept in this morning, I woke at 3:55, went back to sleep and didn't wake again until 5:30.
Have any of you tried the Sumatra grind of coffee? It has such a mellow taste, very light, not bitter. Gilbert got some for me a couple of years ago and I am totally spoiled. Recently I bought some of the dark roast , yuck ! way to bitter for me. I don't use my Stevia (natural sweetener from the Stevia leaf) in my coffee just a little creamer, but with the dark roast I sure had use a lot more creamer and the Stevia too and it was still too bitter.

Whew!! Central Indiana sure was stirred up last night. I didn't go to bed until after midnight because of storms. The TV was showing the radar of the storms heading my way! Then instead of the twister going southwest to northeast, it went east! Missed me. But a town just 8 miles south had some damage but not really bad. Since this was on a Friday night, we may not know all the damage until Monday when we get our newpapers since most Saturday papers are printed Friday nights. I never saw the lightening so intense. One weatherman said 10,000 strikes in a half an hour!! And thunder!!
Tonight Kaye Don, Barb, Ivalou and I are going to a high school graduation. Justyn is Barb and Kaye Don's grandson. Afterwards is the Open House at one of Justyn's friends. They have a Christian band and are playing. Hope it isn't hard rock!!! May need to take my earplugs!!

Well, the garage sale is behind me. I helped Pat all day, got home after 5. She did pretty well, sold $177 worth of STUFF at very cheap prices, and I sold $40 worth of jewelry, from the stuff we brought home from Darrel's brother in South Texas.
I will be leaving tomorrow for my yearly painting class over in Fowler, so won't be around again until next Saturday. Try to miss me, will you? ;) :lol:
We got the leak fixed!!! YIPPEE! I tested it by showering up there last night, and no leaks. So right now, I'm off to clean my closet and put my clothes back in there.

A lot has happened this month. First, Bently died, and we were all very sad, :-[ but we knew it had to happen. So we got a new hamster, and named it Bently the second.
Or Baby B for short. He's very cute, just like B 1. :love:
Then, as of May 20th, I am old enough to get my learners permit and start learning to drive. :groupwave:!
a few days ago, we got two birds, Mercy and Grace. :boots: They are little parakeets, also known as Budgies. I'll get some pics when we get them trained enough to come out of the cage.
That's about it, We will start to train the birds soon, and I'll will you all in as we go.

Scotty, it was so good to meet Mercy and Grace! When I was growing up, we had a parakeet we named Kippy. He learned all SORTS of tricks and words. Our whole family really loved Kippy.
Etta Sue, to quote my brother when he was trying to determine how best to serve God after his retirement from the school system, he prayed and waited on the Lord's guidance, and one Sunday morning he said, "Sis, what I really wish is that God would put a billboard on I-75 saying 'Duke, turn at the next exit to be in my will!"
So, that's what I was thinking of when I said I wish I had a Heavenly GPS - my GPS actually tells me when to turn 2 miles ahead, then 1/2 mile ahead, and a bell rings when it's time to turn. :D

I was able to get out and do some more mowing and weedeating today. My little electric machine sure doesn't do a good job. The grass and weeds along the fence are so thick. It just looks like I chopped it up. As Marilyn said, a gas one would be too heavy. But....I did it and it feels good to know if I keep hacking away at it, I'll be done. lol
Scotty, your little Budgies are so cute. I had "Petey Bird" once. He was the sweetest little guy and loved to play. He got sick and died and we never did know why. I love the sound of their singing. Going to get your learner's permit soon!! That's neat. That's an important milestone is a young person's life.

Hi everyone. I and eight others from our choir or their spouses attended the concert last night. The first half of the program was presented by the orchestra and consisted of 4 pieces. After intermission the chamber chorus came out and they did John Rutter's version of Requiem by Gabriel Fauré. This is a gorgeous piece of music and the chorus was very balanced. All of the program featured French composers. I really enjoyed the evening as the performances were top-notch.
Ruth Ann, I was very glad to have my GPS system with me last night as the road split and I took the wrong branch and we got a little lost but the GPS guided us back to where we needed to go. As you say, we don't need to use it daily but when we venture into areas where we are not familiar, and there are many opportunities in big cities to get lost.
Etta Sue, I know you feel fortunate to have been spared in the storms. We went through the same thing the other night.
Colin, I am sure all that walking has been very good for both you and Jeannine. Good to see you posting.

Scotty, sorry about your hamster but we know when we get them as pets that their life span is not long. Glad you got another and your budgie birds sound like a lot of fun. My sister-in-law has two parakeets and they are really a lot of company for her. They also make a lot of noise.

I didn't sleep well last night I had cramps in the toes of my right foot most of the night. I sat on the bed and rubbed them and pulled onthem and finally asked God to take away the pain, that was at 4 AM, got up at 5. So will probably nap this aftenoon.

I played hookey this morning from church. Why? I don't know. Just didn't want to get up at 6:30, get ready and drive 25 miles to church and then the 25 miles back. I read my devotions as usual.
Commencement was great last night. 163 kids graduated. But the A/C was off in the gym and I almost got dizzy seeing all the programs used as fans. Justyn and his friend, Brian, had a joint Open House. The place was ideal for an Open House with lots of space for parking cars and a two car garage for the food and tables. But....someone was playing drums all the time we were eating. Then at 9pm the bands were to start and Justyn's band was going to be third. Ivalou and I left at 9:15pm. It wasn't music...just loud, deafening noise!!!

We have had parakeets, too, .......and a parrot (we all loved Pepe)...and Beth had a cockatoo named Ruffles who was lots of fun, but so messy! And she would start screeching every night at dusk, until we covered her cage. Beth gave her to a lady who was supposed to keep her updated as to how she is doing, but she hasn't, and isn't there when Beth calls. Beth got so she wasn't able to take care of the bird, and I really didn't want the mess in the house.

Good afternoon. Life in this home is different I must say. busy and life changing but the Lord is in charge. Our past stress is almost past which is good.
We have most of our garden furniture out and now I must get the few flower & veg. plants I have or will be buying planted.
Pat: Thanks for sharing your wedding photo's. If it is OK with you I will print a couple and show them to some of your past coworkers.

50th reunion is now behind me. One more thing to do and I can put all of the records away for 4 yrs till we start again.
What has been great about this reunion is finding out so many of my classmates have become Christians. Some no doubt as pleased to learn I am as I was to find out they were. We will be networking to pray for our needs and any that our classmates may put before us.
We are finally enjoying some warm weather here. My shorts have come out of mothballs. Winter clothes have been put away. And work shall begin on completing the restoration of the 71 Chevelle.
