Morning Devotional...

Those Matters Beyond Human Understanding

Verse

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the LORD. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'
Isaiah 55:8-9

A determination to know what cannot be known always works harm to the Christian heart. Ignorance in matters on our human level is never to be excused if there has been opportunity to correct it. But there are matters which are obviously "too high for us." These we should meet in trusting faith and say as Jesus said, "Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight." There are things that we can never understand until we have the benefit of advanced experience and the addition of a light beyond anything we possess at present. Under those circumstances it is not good to attempt to understand. Confessed ignorance becomes us better. Human curiosity and pride often combine to drive us to try to understand acts of God which are plainly outside the field of human understanding. We dislike to admit that we do not know what is going on, so we torture our minds trying to fathom the mysterious ways of the Omniscient One. It's hard to conceive of a more fruitless task. For instance, a child which had been long desired and prayed for is suddenly taken away. The parents are prostrated with grief, and to add to their suffering comes the torturing thought that they should know why it all happened, but do not. Then begins the long, painful attempt to learn the secret of life and death. Why did this happen? What does God have in mind? These poor friends bruise their minds cruelly trying to fathom the unfathomable. We may as well learn (and the earlier the better) that God has no private secretaries who are on the inside of the secrets of eternity. All God wanted to say, He has said in the Scriptures. Beyond that we show the greatest wisdom simply to remain still before Him and whisper, "Even so, Father." To the adoring heart, the best and most satisfying explanation for anything always will be, "It seemed good in thy sight."

Thought
There are mysteries God deigns to unlock for humankind and there are other mysteries that will always remain just that. We sometimes confuse the two categories.

Prayer

Thank You, God, that I am not God. For the foolishness of sometimes trying to be, forgive me.

Hi everyone on a very rainy morning.  It has been raining for several hours and is suppose to continue until around 2 pm and then it should be over for the rest of the week.  Today we will only be in the mid-70's, which will be a nice change from the last several days.  This rain, which is a gentle but steady rain is apparently from the tropical storm hitting the coasts of the Carolina's.

The only thing I plan on doing today is to attend Sunday School and Church.  Unless she changes her mind, which isn't likely, Pat will not go this morning as doesn't want to get out in this steady rain.  We will be having lunch at home today.  Last evening we decided to go to Pizza Hut for dinner and it was very good.

Don, that is a fine devotional Thought for the Week you selected from the writings of Dr. Tozier.  I think I will use it the next time I bring the devotional for our Sunday School.  It contains a powerful message and speaks to something I expect we have all struggled with and perhaps still do.

Janet, as they say God was your co-pilot on that day a year ago with the terrible crash.  Glad you escaped the Kansas storms and hope last night was the same for you.  Hope Darrel is feeling even better today as the medicine in his hip works its benefits.

Marilyn, great news on your 2nd Mammogram and Ultra sound.  I am glad you didn't waste your time worrying about something that wasn't a problem.  Nice that you and Freckles could participate in the Memorial Day parade.  One seldom hears about the role of dogs in our wars.  However, I do recall a couple of news reports about using dogs in our current conflicts. Hope you hip is feeling better today.

Gord, you are so fortunate to be able to participate in the events your grandchildren are involved with such as recitals.  Over the years we were able to attend only one event that our granddaughter was involved in when we were visiting in Kansas City as that is where she was raised.

Hi everyone on this Memorial Day.  It is going to be a nice one here with zero chance of rain throughout the day and getting into the mid-80's.  We have specific plans for today.  I will attend my normal Monday noon meeting.  I am going to have to come up with a couple of new projects here in my office as like to stay busy in the mornings as will complete my review of the photo albums I have created on Google Photos this morning as only have a few more to review.  It has been fun and sometimes sad going back over the pictures but wanted to weed out those pictures that were of very poor quality or were not of interest.

Hope all have a nice day as we pause to remember those who have sacrificed so much to assure our freedom in the past and today and in the future as there appears to be no end in sight of wars and conflicts around the world.

I just viewed a beautiful video of life in the ocean around the great barrier reef.  Here is the link:http://www.youtube.com/embed/mcbHKAWIk3I

Larry:  You could visit me and help me with a huge box of pictures to add to genealogy software.   ::)

Perhaps by mid-week the weather will change but we are so accustomed to afternoon storms and this is so typical living close to the mountains.  Years ago, we could almost set out clocks at 3 PM for a heavy storm but that has changed a bit.

We are still talking about a wonderful visit with grands and their parents - a belated Mother's Day celebration.

Larry:  We always watch the Memorial Day broadcast and shed a few tears every time.  So much sacrifice - so different than the clueless we deal with daily.

Otherwise, I must go to the Apple store to figure out two problems.  They were open today - and so was apparently most of the stores in the nation.  COSTCO was closed - :)  We hang a medium sized flag on the special days and today it had to be at half mast.  Sad that so many people don't even know what Memorial day is celebrated for anymore.

We are free to worship as we please and very thankful for that fact.

Hi everyone on this last day of May.  Yesterday was a quiet day but I did manage to stay as busy as I wanted.  Today likes like it will be the same.  It is already 75 degrees at 9 am so is going to be a warm day.  I plan on a quick trip to COSTCO as need more frozen fruit.  I have been enjoying a cup of my frozen mixed fruit each morning for breakfast and it is now all gone so need to make up some more but have used all my frozen fruit.  I will tend to my flowers and other plants.  I find I am really enjoying watching the tomatoes grow day by day.  So far there are eight tomatoes with more blossoms and I can begin to see the start of a couple of yellow peppers.  Everything is very green here this time of year and really is enjoyable.

Carol, I will let you have the pleasure of working up your box of pictures.  You speak of the afternoon storms in your area.  We have noted since living here that around 3 pm most days it   becomes cloudy but usually no rain and then in a couple of hours it clears off again.  I thought I had seen that COSTCO was closed yesterday for Memorial Day so glad I didn't stop by on my way home from the meeting.  I have never been inside an Apple store as got my iPhones from the AT&T store and ordered my iPad several years ago directly from Apple and it was delivered to my door the day the Version Three was released.

Hi everyone.  It is going to be a hot day here in South Carolina as it is suppose to reach 91 degrees this afternoon.  This will be a full day for us as Pat has a dental appointment at 9:15 this morning.  I then need to make a trip to Walmart for a prescription and a couple of other items and later today are son will be over.  I expect we will all go out to eat this late afternoon or evening.

Carol

Larry:  thank you for the tribute to a soldier.

Marilyn

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  It is a bit humid here in South Carolina and suppose to get up to about 89 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday afternoon we went to a new Chinese Buffet that opened not to long ago.  It is huge and has 9 serving tables, a Sushi Bar, and Hibachi counter and a Noodle shop as a part of the buffet. They advertise over 300 items on their buffet.  It was not the best I have ever had at a Chinese Buffet but we were there at the end of the lunch period and right before the dinner hour started and some of the food had been sitting on the buffet a little longer than it probably should have.  It was $7 for the lunch buffet so you certainly got your money's worth and $10 for the dinner buffet.

Pat's dentist appointment yesterday turned out very well in that she did not need a new crown but the dentist was able to fix the problem without even needing to deaden her mouth to work on it.  It was a sizable bill but only a fraction of what a new crown would cost.

This morning I will take Pat's CPAP machine in to be checked as she is getting excess water in the hose from the machine. This place is just a couple of blocks from where I will be having coffee this my friends so will be handy.  I will then attend the Wisdom Class at church and that will likely be it for today.

Marilyn, hope you have a great vacation.  It is always nice to get away for a few days.  Is this to the same place you have gone the last couple of years?  Nice that you found someone to keep Freckles so he didn't have to be kenneled.

Raccoons managed to lift the bird feeder roof and the gluttons ate at least a cup of bird seed.  Ongoing battle on our deck now.

I just read that some of the Canadians in the Fort Mc Murray have returned to their area - it looks so bleak from the pictures.  My hope is that the people are given enough to start their lives over - plus anything of comfort.  I have not heard of anything being delivered to them.  What a shock to find all that ruined.

Beautiful underwater photos, Larry.  Thanks.  I'd sure like to see those Janet used to give us in the old SN...   (Hint, hint, Janet....)

Hi everyone on what is starting out to be a very warm day getting up to 93 degrees this afternoon. I don't plan on going anywhere today unless we go out for lunch as this is the day the housekeeper is here and that is often what we do on housekeeper day.  Yesterday was a very busy one.

I got in my PT Cruiser to leave for coffee only to find the battery had apparently died as it wouldn't turn over the engine. So I took the other car to coffee and to have her CPAP equipment checked but she needed the car around 11:30 so missed my usual Wisdom group at the church.

The check of the CPAP equipment showed there was a fault with the warming unit and a call to the company tech department advised the unit needed to be replaced.  So we went to the place she had gotten it and they replaced the entire CPAP machine.  That turned out to be very easy and quick.  On the way home we stopped at COSTCO and had lunch/dinner at their snack bar as it was already 2:30 in the afternoon.  I came home and took a nice nap and we had a quiet evening watching Netflix.

Raccoons and squirrels are very cleaver and resourceful when food is involved.  I can't even visualize what going back to a flooded home and town must be like.  It has to be terrible.

Jeanne, I agree on seeing Janet's photos.

Hi everyone.  It is already 79 degrees and not even 9 am and we will get over 90 this afternoon as we did yesterday.  This will be a light day with only a quick trip to Walmart to pick up a prescription planned.  Yesterday a little after noon we went to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day.  I enjoyed the salad bar and she had a chicken dish.  The rest of the day was quiet and restful.  I have already taken care of the outside work of watering my plants so after I get back from Walmart should be able to stay in the rest of the day.  Not exciting but enjoyable and appreciated after what seemed like a busy week.  I have decided not to call the Motor Club until next week to tend to the battery problem.

I hope all will have a nice Saturday.
