Wish I was in your area, Al. Currently it is 30 degrees Celsius here, or 86 Fahrenheit, with a humidity level that makes it feel like 95!!!

A dear friend from Florida once marvelled at my comment re the nasty humidity we have here in the summer.  We are located between Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, and Lake Erie. That is why we have the oppressive humidity.

Even so, I much prefer the summer temps to our nasty winters.

Thank you for the devotional. I too find much comfort in the Psalms.

We would gladly take the rain, Al!  :)  Today was really pleasant, warm and not too windy, such a nice change from the past two days.

If any of you do not watch Glenn Beck, I highly recommend that you do.  He has some serious warnings of what is happening and what will come if we don't stand together and PRAY.

:)    Janet:   We also could give you some warmth as it did get to around 90F and a little bit humid and our plants have got so big so fast.

Strollin: Very warm EH for this time of the year.  I see that you also live in Guelph that is where I was singing this  past Saturday at the Guelph Conference Grounds and it was a great time.

Well will check in tomorrow and God bless to all.   Gordon and Noreen  :cp:

Well it's about 50 degrees here, and it's supposed to rain on again and off again for the next week or so.  We're not at all used to this much rain this late.

Jeanne Lee

Janet, I'd love to be able to watch Glenn Beck, but unfortunately it would mean an extra $50 a month on my cable bill.   :'(

It didn't rain yesterday after all.

Ah, 'Cinderella' was wonderful!  Love all the dancing, singing, acting and great costumes...and the food was great, too!

This morning I woke at 7 something to the sounds of a tractor.  Sounded like it was outside my window.  I finally got up around 8:30.  The tractor is across the road preparing it to plant soy beans, I hope.  It was corn two years in a row.  Usually it is corn one year, beans the next!

So I got dressed and went to Lapel to the bank, to eat at Woody's and to the Dollar General.  You can't beat Woody's for the price.  One biscuit with gravy, hash browns and 2 cups of coffee....five dollars even!!

Ivalou is getting a new A/C unit installed today.  She sure can tolerate the heat better than me.  I would have slept outside last night if I hadn't have had A/C!

I was to have a meeting at the minister's house tonight but his wife, Ruth Ann left a Voice Mail telling me it has been cancelled.  She forgot today is her birthday!!  And no meetings on her birthday!!

So I am home now until Ivalou and I leave sometime tomorrow for Ohio for 4 days!

Bright and sunny again in Indiana.  I will take this heat...lots better than the cold, snow and ice of January and February!

Five twelveths of 2011 gone!!  Kaput!

Etta Sue, it would surely be GREAT if you came to Nashville, TN for your retreats! :)

Our Metro schools are to be dismissed at noon today - don't you just KNOW those children are relieved to have their summer holiday!

Gord, I've often thought about joining the Sweet Adelines here in Nashville - barbershop-type singing is such great harmony and the subject matter is clean, too.

Y'all have a great day.

We had one of the worse storms I have ever seen, here last night.  The lightening was circling the house and came in waves around us.  Even the dogs were edgy.  There were three storm fronts that hit us, all with severe lightening and thunder, and heavy rain.  I am sure we were hit on more than one occasion.  Thankful today for lightening rods on the house!

Went into North Bay  for a ceremony at the waterfront to thank our troupes.  The Air Cadets marched in with the military from the base.  What a sight seeing all the military  people in full dress uniform marching down the road to the waterfront.  Really impressive.  On a side note Kassie is considering going the military route for her career.

From an oppressive 35*C (95*F) yesterday it is now about 18*C (65*F).  It will warm up again tomorrow and Friday but not to the degree of yesterday.  Saturday I hope it is a cooler day as it is the Cadets Annual Inspection, (inspection by top DND commander) Which will be full dress uniform, and later in the evening the Annual Dinner. They charge parents/guests $20 for the dinner but the food is good and worth it.  I am so pleased that no alcohol is served!

I am off   God bless you all.

Janet

Gord, thanks but no thanks on the offer of warmth--it was 90* and windy here today, and continues to be drier than two year old corncobs!  Please, Lord!  Send us RAIN!!

Nothing newsworthy here today, just getting ready to go paint next week.  Went to Red Hats today; took Beth some chicken wings from Pizza Hut, went and made a scrapbook page; Mark called and was here, so I hurried home to see him.  Got to have those wonderful grandson hugs when I get the chance!

Mark showed me a couple things on here with photos, maybe I will eventually figure out how to post again, I hope.  I don't try to learn it at night when I am already tired, though.

See you all tomorrow!

Hi everyone. Today was a much more comfortable 23 C (73 F), and more like our usual spring temps.

Glad to hear you had a good time here in Guelph Gord. Though I do love to sing, especially in praise of our Lord and Savior, I was not considered good enough for our local women's Barbershop group when I tried out a few years ago.  That's ok with me, as the Lord just wants to hear from us and doesn't care if we are off-key.

Judy. That sounds like quite a storm, possibly like the one we had come through here on Sunday night. Very noisy, windy, and lots of rain.

Bonnie.

Hi everyone.  Expecting another very hot day up to about 95 degrees.  Sure was surprised yesterday to hear of the tornados in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Judy, how frightening.  Lightning rods are something that were common when I was growing up but you never see anymore.  Perhaps they have some other way of grounding the house.  The Atlanta area loses a number of homes a year to lightning.  Certainly glad you had no damage other than to your nerves.  Sounds like a big decision for Kassie about joining the military.  Many young people make a career of the military.

Janet, we are also becoming very dry again in the state of Georgia.  We did have the 2 inches of rain in a deluge the other night but not much in the forecast at this time.

Bonnie, at least you gave it your best effort to audition for the barbershop group.  My son and I both sang one year in our county choral guild and enjoyed it but didn't continue with it.  I do well to keep up with my church choir, which I have participated in for many, many years.

We have friends coming this afternoon to play dominos.  We will eat out sometime around 5 pm and then come back and finish our domino game and then have some apple pie.  Pat talked about fixing baby back ribs for the group, as she had done once before, but I asked her not to as it wears her completely out.  The group almost always goes out to eat together, which we all enjoy.  These are two couples from our church.

CP is super, super slow today for me!!  For a few days, I thought it was fixed.

Don't have time to write much.  Ivalou and I are leaving for Ohio in 50 minutes and I am not done packing yet.

Great to talk to Gord yesterday.  Love the accent!!  I don't have an accent!!

I am taking my laptop to Jo's so I will be online there also.

Looks like great traveling weather today.  Overcast and no rain!!

From 90 yesterday to 40 overnight, dark clouds, wind...  this is June?   :)

It is about 61* F in the shade here and there is a steady wind.  Beautiful almost cloudless sky, and the grass is growing high again!!!  Time to mow.

Not much on the agenda, other than the lawns.  Have a great day everyone.

Janet

The weather continues to wreak havoc across the country!  We had a violent thunderstorm with really high winds last night; got about.40 of rain.  This morning, you couldn't even tell it had rained.  The dry, parched ground just sucked it up and cried out "MORE, please!"

I have been awake since about 2:30, don't know what's up with that, but it is really hard to get anything done when I am so sleepy.  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Marilyn - we lived in the Portland area from 1959-1963, again from 1969-1988.  We were in Tualatin, Tigard, SW Portland, Oregon City, West Linn, and Canby.  We're extremely familiar with the area, and some of the kids still live there.  I worked in Wilsonville and Beaverton, and we lived in Wilsonville while I worked there.  We would love to have lived in the area longer.

By the way - it's about 56/57 degrees here today and no significant rain.

Yes Jeanne we are close to it as well...Maybe I should cover my plants?  I have the furnace going tonight, and Cimi is shivering!

Kass is working hard getting ready for the final few days activities at cadets.  Always a mad rush at the end.

Hi everyone.  Another hot day here in Georgia that I will stay in out of as much as possible.  Nothing special on the schedule so get to stay at home.  I always enjoy these quiet days.

Etta Sue, hope the first part of your trip went well.

Jeanne, it isn't yet 7 am and we already have 72 degrees.  I would enjoy a cooler day.

Janet, the night really gets long when you can't sleep.  I have had a couple of those the last couple of weeks, which is very rare for me.  Last night Pat woke me up saying my phone signaling something.  I adjusted it and the sounds repeated and did this a couple of times with me trying different things.  Finally, I got up and took my phone into my office and get back in bed and here is the sound again.  It turns out it is her cellphone telling us the battery needs recharging.

Marilyn, is this your first grandchild?  Regardless it sounds like that number is growing quickly this year.  Hope you have a nice time in Portland.  I remember being there once on business and it is a pretty town.

I am in Ohio after a great trip on I-70 and I-75.  Lots of traffic but all was fine.  Last evening I took Lydia to her dance rehearsal while the rest of the family went to the high school graduation for Kara.  Dance rehearsal used to be until 11pm but Lydia and I were home by 9pm.

Soon, here comes the rest of the family home.  Then, of course, we talked and talked until midnight.

And then you know how it is in a different bed with different sounds in the house.  No sleep for a long time.  Now were are vegging out until the dance recital tonight.

I am online but my emails won't go out.  Says it can't connect with my pop.xxxxx.com server!   So I will use droid for my outgoing emails.

I never could get the reply box this morning, but now I have!  :)

Busy day, up early after a good night of sleep (Thank you, God!) Spent time in prayer and Bible reading, watched Joyce Meyer, went to Pat's so she could do my hair, then to the dentist, where he put the permanent crown on my tooth.  From there, I went to the senior center for exercise class, stayed for lunch; then went to see Beth.  I wrote some thank you notes for her, then back to Sr. center to help put out stuff for tomorrow's garage sale.

Home, rested a bit, then was painting when Darrel called me to "come here a minute."  He was looking at something in the back kitchen sink, he didn't recognize what it was.  I said, "Oh!  A bat!"  We had never seen one here before, have no idea how or why it got in the house, at least in the building.  It seemed very tired, and I wanted to take pictures of it, so brought it into my studio and got several pictures of it, then I put it outside in a big pot with a tomato plant.  Just before dark I went out to check on it, and it was gone.  I hope it survives.  They are very beneficial little critters, and some species are being threatened.

I am going to lie down and read a while.  Good night!

Janet you can have your bats!  I had a friend who had to put down his beautiful Shepherd Dog because he was playing with a rabid bat.  The dog was up to date with his shots but the Dept of Health didn't trust this and the dog had to be put down.  I am so thankful for our hawks as they get rid of our bats.

This has been a long day,  Tomorrow will be even longer.  I will need to be up before 7 to have Kassie at  cadets for 8.  The Annual Inspection starts at 1:00 and ends at about 4:00.  Two hours later is the dinner.  That will end about 11:00.  So I won't be here tomorrow at all!

I need to get to bed so Night all and God bless.

Hi everyone.  It was really hot here yesterday and to continue for the next several days.  I try to stay in the AC as much as possible.  I do have to be out, but only from the car to a building and back, this morning.  This afternoon we have a 50th wedding anniversary to attend at our church for friends we made when we first joined this church in 1996.  So it will be a busy day.

I am making a lot of progress in leaning how to make the most of my new smart phone and enjoying it more each day.  I printed out the little manual that I downloaded for it, only 194 pages, but not much info on each page.

Etta Sue, glad you had a good trip and that you are enjoying your visit.

Janet, your calendar must have really large blocks on it to be able to get all those activities on it so you remember what you have to do each day.  Aren't some bats also very dangerous in terms of disease they may carry?  Sure glad you had a good nights sleep.

Judy, what a long day for you all.

The site was much faster this morning.  Maybe the repairs have been completed.

Etta Sue

When my niece, Lauren, was about 5 years old, she was in church with her family.  She saw something on the floor in front of her and it was a bat.  But it bit her.  They were so glad that someone thought to capture the bat and have it checked out!  And sure enough it was rabid so Lauren had to go through the series of shots!  They were told when bats are lethargic that they most likely are rabid!    But Lauren didn't like the shots.  That's one reason she hates shots today!

Still here at Jo's.  She is preparing food for this evening for the Open House for Kara.  The Dance Recital was fun last evening.  I have gone to this recital for several years and it is fun to see girls all grown up and still dancing.  There was only one little boy, maybe 5 years old, in all the dancers.  Lydia, of course, did a great job in her solo.

Looks like it is going to be another hot, sunny day here.

The risk for rabies was my first though, too, when I read Janet's post.  The Lord surely had a hedge around Janet and Darrel, protecting them from harm!   :)

It's a lovely sunny day here, too, but far from hot!  It will be surprising if it goes above 70 later.

My goodnesds, Janet! Today's going to be a busy one. Hope to enjoy a movie - first ever 3-d movie. I've always been interested in the prehistoric drawings on walls of caves and in other locations.

A new cave was discovered in 1994 and GREAT care has been taken to keep that cave pristine. If you want to look this up on the internet, search for The Cave of Forgotten Dreams. An archaeologist was allowed to go in under extremely strngent restrictions for 1 hour a day. The 3-d documentary is the result. I was thrilled to learn it's just opened up at one of our Nashville theaters, So, hope to go this afternoon. What a fantastic opportunity!

Y'all have a wonderful day with our Lord.

Janet

Aw, come on, folks!  The poor bats have been so much maligned through the years, and so many have been killed, that their populations are endangered, and there is a great increase of harmful insects (which also carry diseases!)  This little guy/girl made no effort to bite at all.  And being lethargic was probably because it was so bright and the light hurts their eyes.  We learned so much about bats and how helpful they are to mankind when we were in Costa Rica.  Of course, I wouldn't want a child to try to handle a bat--bad for both child and bat!  I think you need to go read up on bats!  (Just my opinion, of course.)  While I know some of the stories about bats are true, many are much exaggerated, and the true (bad) accounts get all the publicity, while the many benefits of bats are overlooked.  Sort of like the honeybees.

Once, years ago, I found a tiny green-throated hummingbird in the yard.  Sadly, it didn't live.  That's the only one I have ever seen around here.

Now that I have likely made everyone unhappy with me, I guess I'd better go away, which I am doing, for a week.  Hope everyone has a good one!

Well, the weather forecaster gave us either/or temps for highs this week - what were the choices??? Ummmm 95 or 96!

I just made a bit of chicken salad and put diced fresh tomato in it - now to make a bit of fruit salad and yogurt. What great food for almost no effort. And, no cookin' in hot weather really appeals to me. :D

Y'all have a wonderful day.
