Morning Devotional...

Psalm 34

Our Lord really, really hears us when we pray - as long as we meet a certain well-defined condition.

David begins this psalm by saying, "I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears . . . this poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them!"

A little later he says, "Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!  Oh fear the Lord, you His saints!  There is NO want to those who fear Him!"

But we need to know the meaning of this all-important "fear." David has them sing about what it is.  He says, "Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.  Who is the man who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?  Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it." Real "fear of the Lord" is just living a life of righteousness as the result of being aware of living in His holy and majestic presence.

He says, "the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry! . . . the righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles."  The fear of the Lord, which shows itself in righteous living - is the condition for answered prayer.

What a wonderful promise comes along with this fear of God.  The song closes with it.  They sing, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all . . . and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned."

So, brother or sister in Christ our King - will you sing this song about answered prayer?  Do you experience answered prayer in your life? There's a condition you have to meet to experience it: you must fear the Lord.  That is, realizing that He is the God Who sees, you must purpose to continually live in a way that pleases Him, and, when you stumble, you must confess it to Him.  In other words, you have to have a real and living relationship with Him each day, all day.  It's from such a life that prayer and answers to prayer flow.

Here's a hymn that reflects these thoughts.  Just click to hear the music.

All People That on Earth Do Dwell
(Click to hear music)

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs." Psalm 100:1-2

Words: From Fourscore and Seven Psalms of David (Geneva, Switzerland: 1561); attributed to William Kethe.

Music: "Old 100th," attributed to Louis Bourgeois, in Four Score and Seven Psalms of David (Geneva, Switzerland: 1551)

All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
Him serve with mirth, His praise forth tell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid He did us make;
We are His folk, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.

O enter then His gates with praise;
Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His Name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

For why? the Lord our God is good;
His mercy is forever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

To Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
The God Whom heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the angel host
Be praise and glory evermore.

 :) Good morning or good night.  I have not been on the site for a few days as I ended up in the hospital on Wednesday morning with some major pains in my arms and my chest.  I called my son as I new he would be on his way to work and he told me to call our medical help system and they sent an ambulance and I was in the hospital very soon.  They did lots of test and then the doctor sent me to have an angiogram in the heart hospital called Hamilton General which is hooked up with the McMaster University and the treatment is great.  So Praise the Lord they never found any problems and the artery that was blocked in April is also totally clear and no plaque. :thumbsup:

I have looked at a lot of the posts and now am very tired and my incision is very sore to so must go to bed.

Please pray for us both and may the Lord give you all a wonderful week.   Gord and Noreen <3

Hi everyone.  It is really chilly but very sunny here today.  The housekeeper is coming about 10 am.  Pat has a doctor's appointment at noon to see about her leg and knee that is giving her so much pain and problem.  I have a luncheon to attend at 1 pm and that is our day.

I have misplaced a lightweight jacket and gloves.  I wore it Saturday morning so I had to have left it somewhere on Saturday.  I thought maybe I left it at our daughter's apartment but she said this morning it isn't there.  I will make a couple of calls a little later to see if I left it there.  I don't mind losing the jacket as much as the driving gloves but won't lose any sleep if I can't locate them.

Gord, sorry to hear you have had another scary episode.  Once we have had the heart problems we just can't take the chance when we have the chest and arm pains.  My last hospitalization occurred when I had a similar incident.  Glad your tests came out well.

Marilyn, I will send you an e-mail about your computer question.

Pat, it is not a good sign if SeniorNet is not keeping Marcie informed as she is one of their employees or at least I assume she still is employed with them although I know she works from home a lot.  I just follow a few discussions on SN anymore and seldom post.  However, I do like to keep up with some of our friends we have made over the years.

Al, thanks for the fine devotional on Psalms 34.

Janet, good to read that the stroke didn't do the damage you had feared for Darrel's sister.  Glad you were able to celebrate your mother-in-law's birthday.  Hope you have been able to get rested up by today.

Liz, glad to read that you are feeling better.  Some of these medicines can certainly cause problems on their own.  I often shake my head when I listen to drug company advertisements and they talk about all of the awful side effects that may happen if you take that medication.  I haven't watched the Hour of Power program for sometime and didn't realize there were problems.  The last time I watched Dr. Schuler's son was preaching.

Judy, did you get your computer at home as you thought would happen by the weekend?

Melody, thanks for remembering my wife in prayer.  It sounds like it is rather soggy up your way.

Pat received this from a friend and I thought it was worth sharing here.

    GOD LIVES UNDER THE BED

    I envy Kevin. My brother, Kevin, thinks God lives under his bed. At least that's what I heard him say one night.He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and I stopped to listen, 'Are you there, God?' he said. 'Where are you? Oh, I see. Under the bed...'I giggled softly and tiptoed off to my own room.

Kevin's unique perspectives are often a source of amusement. But that night something else lingered long after the humor.  I realized for the first time the very different world Kevin lives in.He was born 30 years ago, mentally disabled as a result of difficulties during labor. Apart from his size (he's 6-foot-2), there are few ways in which he is an adult. He reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a 7-year-old, and he always will.

He will probably always believe that God lives under his bed, that Santa Claus is the one who fills the space under our tree every Christmas and that airplanes stay up in the sky because angels carry them.

I remember wondering if Kevin realizes he is different. Is he ever dissatisfied with his monotonous life? Up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk our cocker spaniel, return to eat his favorite macaroni-and-cheese for dinner, and later to bed.The only variation in the entire scheme is laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine like a mother with her newborn child.

He does not seem dissatisfied. He lopes out to the bus every morning at 7:05, eager for a day of simple work.He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather our dirty laundry for his next day's laundry chores. And Saturdays - oh, the bliss of Saturdays! That's the day my Dad takes Kevin to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes land, and speculate loudly on the destination of each passenger inside. 'That one's goin' to Chi-car-go! ' Kevin shouts as he claps his hands. His anticipation is so great he can hardly sleep on Friday nights.

And so goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips.He doesn't know what it means to be discontent. His life is simple. He will never know the entanglements of wealth of power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be.

His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working.  When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it. He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, and he does not leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax. He is not obsessed with his work or the work of others. His heart is pure. He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologize instead of argue. Free from pride and unconcerned with appearances, Kevin is not afraid to cry when he is hurt, angry or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God.

Not confined by intellectual reasoning, when he comes to Christ, he comes as a child. Kevin seems to know God - to really be friends with Him in a way that is difficult for an 'educated' person to grasp. God seems like his closest companion. In my moments of doubt and frustrations with my Christianity, I envy the security Kevin has in his simple faith. It is then that I am most willing to admit that he has some divine knowledge that rises above my mortal questions. It is then I realize that perhaps he is not the one with the handicap. I am. My obligations, my fear, my pride, my circumstances - they all become disabilities when I do not trust them to God's care.

Who knows if Kevin comprehends things I can never learn? After all, he has spent his whole life in that kind of innocence, praying after dark and soaking up the goodness and love of God. And one day, when the mysteries of heaven are opened, and we are all amazed at how close God really is to our hearts, I'll realize that God heard the simple prayers of a boy who believed that God lived under his bed. Kevin won't be surprised at all! When you receive this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do. There is nothing attached. This is powerful.  Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost, but a lot of rewards.

It Is No Secret
(Click to hear music)

Lyrics: Stuart Hamblen

The chimes of time ring out the news,
Another day is through.
Someone slipped and fell
Was that someone you?
You may have longed for added strength,
Your courage to renew.
Do not be disheartened,
For I have news for you.

Refrain

It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

There is no night for in His light
You never walk alone.
Always feel at home,
Wherever you may go.
There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side.
Take Him at His promise,
Don't run away and hide.

Refrain
It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

Got another one in today's email.

*Missing Bags*

I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because they were trained professionals and I was in good hands.

"Now," she asked me, "has your plane arrived yet?"

Where are all the East coasters this morning?

Good Morning.  Not much is new here, I'm just checking in now instead of continuing to lurk and only read. It is raining here still.

I may not get to work tomorrow or Thursday  as the client's daughter who is here visiting from Washington called last night and said she would do the walks the rest of the week after today. She is having oral surgery today and thinks she will be felling well enough to do the walks.

If that is the case I will be leaving for Oregon tomorrow morning instead of Thursday after work. I am anxious to get up there to get that room cleaned out and all those toys boxed up and brought  down her to Forest. That will be the guest room when we finish.

I also want to do some touch up cleaning in my bedroom and bathroom before I move my own things in there. So that extra day will be a welcome  gift.

Hi everyone.  Just back from a meeting and stopping to fill up the cars with gas.  My wife is having lunch with a friend and I am just now eating my lunch.  Not much else on the schedule for today.  It is overcast and rather chilly here today.

Marilyn, hope you enjoy the time off.

Jeanne, I enjoyed your funny postings.  I got a chuckle from them.

Janet, hope you enjoy your day back at work.  I thought maybe you had decided not to work there anymore.  Of course, I know you have been away.

Judy, hunting over getting your computer fixed--where are that man's priorities.  :)  Glad you daughter had a good nights sleep.
