Morning Devotional...

Jesus Washes His Disciples' Feet
John 13:1-17 NLT

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.  It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.  Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist,  and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples' feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.

When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"

Jesus replied, "You don't understand now what I am doing, but someday you will."

"No," Peter protested, "you will never ever wash my feet!"

Jesus replied, "Unless I wash you, you won't belong to me."

Simon Peter exclaimed, "Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!"

Jesus replied, "A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you."  For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said, "Not all of you are clean."

After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, "Do you understand what I was doing?  You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and you are right, because that's what I am.  And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet.  I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.  I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message.  Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.

(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FAnis%2FStarblinking.gif&hash=27e115f9cd5672d07457eb7160f143473dc479d4)What is the greatest service someone has done for you?  How do you serve others?

Jesus was the model servant, and he showed this attitude to his disciples.

Washing guests' feet was a job for the household servant when guests arrived.  But Jesus wrapped a towel around him, as the lowliest slave would do, and washed his disciples' feet.

If even he, God in the flesh, was willing to serve, we, his followers, must also be servants, willing to serve in any way in order to glorify God.

Are you willing to follow Christ's example of serving?

   Whom can you serve today?

The question is:  What is the greatest thing someone has done for you?  Well, I will never forget the kindness of a friend who arranged three weeks of dinners by her and even strangers (to us) when I had back surgery and our oldest son was recuperating from a roll-over car accident the same time Don was beginning a brand new job - this was in Texas.  Unbelievably kind of all.  As for me, I really try to get a meal over to new parents - anyone who needs some pick-up or at least a loaf of fresh bread ever since that very thoughtful gift.

We had the early surprise birthday.  What a terrific day - I was exhausted when it was over.  Don went to see one son's cabin in the mountains, all three boys went with him.  Friends drove here, they are so good and thoughtful (and, most of them voted for the winner) but we forgive them  :)  A perfect surprise - Don was so happy and still talks about yesterday.  Today, we were awake at 4 A.M. so stayed up to watch the sunrise and went to 7:30 church.  We were both getting too drowsy to stay for SS so had to come home for a morning nap of only a few minutes.  But - I suppose someone would have noticed if we had fallen asleep in SS.   ::)

Ed:  What a wealth of info on my favorites - Roy & Dale.  My skin is so sensitive that I have to mix half the hydrocortizone with cold cream.  A pharmacist gave me that tip once.

JudyB:  Teaching sewing - what a treasure you are for the girls.  They will always remember you.  And, you have a girlfriend who is a pastor!  That is so nice.  I know a couple of women pastors and they have to prove their faith and work so much.

Kathleen:  Glad you are feeling better - keep it up!  Happy Trails to you too - and enjoy the biscuits and gravy.  We have found the Pioneer gravy mix is very good with 1/4th pound of cooked sausage in it for taste.

Larry:  My prayers to you and Pat concerning Stacey.  Her condition is so fragile.

Marilyn:  I wish so much that I could have gone to that museum - just have loved those folks since childhood.  Ouch - I hope you didn't break your tailbone.

Janet:  email your European trip, please.  My prayers for Beth.

Janet:  If Roy Rogers stuff is being moved to Branson, then, I must visit some day.

Al:  Hi - just saying hello.

Also, I asked for info on a hotel or motel in Seattle for my class reunion and would you believe this - a classmate sent a picture of her guest bedroom and offered it for our one or two night stay.  Just so sweet.

The goodness of people - it is so wonderful.  We are feeling so "up" today - the sermon was on Discipleship and bringing up the next generation in the ways of the Lord.

Thank you for the comments on my trip report.  Do any of you have suggestions or tips that might make the next one better?  I am working on improving my writing skills.

Carol, it is on the way, as soon as I finish this!  Glad your party was such a success.

Etta Sue, nice devotional for this week, thank you.

I suppose one of the greatest things people did for me and my kids was bring meals to us for 6 weeks while my wife was in the hospital.  She almost died twice during that time.

As for the Roy Rogers Museum, It has already been moved to Branson, Mo

My question is:  Have you participated in a "Foot Washing Service?"
What a humbling experience, having someone wash my dirty smelly feet.

Foot Washing -  Most humbling experience you'll ever have.

Wish we did this at the church we go to now.

Morning all!!  Just breezing through! :D

Later,

Hi everyone.

There have been so many nice things people have done for us it is hard to think of a particularly special one.  I know that when my folks died I really appreciated the ladies of the church where my folks attended doing the luncheon after the service.  It was so thoughtful and it gave the family time to sit and visit with relatives we hadn't seen for a long time.

We will leave shortly to go to the hospital.  Stacey's cath is scheduled for 2 pm so she will likely spend the night at the hospital after the procedure since it is occurring so late in the day.

Janet, I really enjoyed your report.  You write very well.  The only thing I can think of that would make the report better would be to put it in a Word Processor and insert some of your photos of the things you were describing at appropriate places.  Obviously that is a lot of work.  I really appreciated your sharing it with all of us.

Etta Sue, thanks for the new devotional for this week.

Etta Sue, I love that particular story of Jesus.  Thank you!  However, there is something about it that we usually miss.  And even those who have "foot washing" in their church services often miss it also.

In the days when Jesus walked this earth, the roads were not paved, and the shoes were not comfortable, laced-up leather ones with souls.  Add to these things the fact that there were no automobiles, busses, cabs, etc.  Only a very few could even ride horses or mules.  The common folk simply had to walk everywhere they went.  They NEEDED to have their feet washed when they finally arrived at your door.  Jesus took the job of the servant to do the washing, because He WAS the suffering Servant.  Oh, what a Servant!  But in the presence of laborers who had worked up a sweat, He would have offered to wash them as well.  When in the presence of other laborers whose backs were sore, He would have offered massage.  In the presence of tired men, He would have dragged up chairs and placed cushions behind tired backs.  In the presence of the thirsty, He would have offered cold water.

Love is humble and sacrificial service - of any kind.  Is the Spirit of Jesus Christ in us?

Al:  Your post on the practical and loving, humble side of Jesus washing of the feet of the travelers is so interesting.  We don't think of such things today.  Hospitality was much more personal in those days and probably servants washed the feet or brought the refreshments so it is more meaningful just to read that Jesus was the most humble person who walked this earth.

We had all kinds of food on Saturday and now I am planning for Thursday night Dinner Club.  My job is to make Chilled Vichysoisse soup,(It is potato and leek soup that has cream and chives), Swedish Meatballs with Gravy, Spiced Pickled Beets, and a Potato,Carrot, Rutabaga casserole along with Rolls & Butter.  The guests bring salad and dessert.  After that meal, it is time to think about Thanksgiving dinner with the family here.  Only one son-in-law and he will be flying to Texas to be with his parents and other than that, all will be here.  We will take neighbors to pre-Thanksgiving service as they have problems driving in the dark.

Tonight, we will go to a potluck and watch one grandson get his Scout Life award.  Don has two volunteer meetings this week - the days are filling up.  We had a great walk this morning and it is so warm that it is scary.  Then, drove to several places and went to the huge mall for the first time.  Did not buy one thing.  Totally outrageous prices.  Went to Goodwill and I found a nice cabinet with shelves for my sewing closet - my kind of price.

I just got an email from the couple we met on our cruise that we enjoyed so much.  Sure good to hear from them!

I was just checking to see if there were anything new here, now headed to bed.

Welcome home again, Marilyn.  You run around more than I do!  ;) ^-^

Hi everyone.  It is really cold here this morning, below freezing, and suppose to only get into the mid 40's today and cold again tonight.

Stacey had her cath done yesterday and the results were not good at all.  The bypass she had done about 3 months ago is totally blocked and therefore useless.  This is for a blockage that is somewhere between 80 and 90 percent blocked.  Plus there is another blockage in another artery that is over 60% blocked and this is located right where the artery enters the heart and the cardiologist said it cannot be stented because if it blocked it would cut off the blood supply to the heart.  So she will have a double by-pass surgery as soon as they can get the Plavix out of her system.  So it will be at least Friday and probably the first of next week before the surgery can be performed.  Because she needs the nitro drip she must stay in the hospital and very quiet until the surgery.

She was upset by the news but seemed to be more so when we told her we were not leaving town to go to Florida as will not go off and leave her in the hospital by herself.

We will pack up today and stay the next several days at her apartment, which is located right across the street from the hospital rather than make these long drives back and forth.  Yesterday afternoon I walked from the hospital over to her apartment, probably about two blocks in total.  We will be spending quite a bit of time with her to help the hours pass.  Fortunately they have public internet access in the hospital so I will take her computer over to her and she should be able to watch movies on it, have access to her own telephone and e-mail and can play some games.  The hours in the hospital go slowly.  She is in a private room.  This is not the same hospital where she had the other bypass.

We had quite a time trying to get the word to the doctor she was suppose to see yesterday afternoon for another appointment for disability.  Finally after her cath we were able to track down the person she needed to talk to that is adjudicating her disability case and he was going to handle things and set up a subsequent appointment.

I will take my laptop with us today and am going to get a computer case on wheels so I don't have to carry it.  Fry's have them for about $20 so will stop on the way downtown today so I can take it with me to the hospital.

I will stay in touch here on a daily basis.

Good Morning: Boy did I ever sleep good last night. I went to bed at 8PM, probably was asleep by8:30, woke up long enough to look at the clock just after midnite, went right back to sleep and woke up at 4:26, so I sure got my 8 hours of sleep last night, that hasn't hapened in a long tiem.

Larry I am praying for Stacey. I am so sorry to hear that she is having so many  blockages and has to have bypass surgery at such a young age.

Thank you all so much for the comments of the devotion.  I have never attended a foot washing ceremony.  I used to think my feet were the ugliest part of my body and was ashamed to show them to anyone.  As I get older I think my feet are pretty good looking!   ::)  I know.  That isn't the purpose of a foot washing.  I will just add that with those past thoughts for me to have some wash my feet would be humbling to me as well as me washing someones feet.

Larry ~ I wasn't expecting to read that Stacy needs bypass surgery.  What an ordeal all of you have gone through.  My prayers are for you all.  I sure didn't know that they had laptop cases on wheels.  Good idea!

Janet ~ If you have Microsoft Word, you can insert pictures in it and even size them by using the deformation corners.  I agree, some pictures would add interest since most of us will never ever see these sites ourselves.

Carol ~ You seem to be adjusting to your new area quite comfortably.  And you certainly tend to be a busy person serving others.

Marilyn ~ I know your dogs are happy to see you when you walk in the door.  Cats are different.  My two acted like they were afraid of me when I came home after being gone three days.  But soon, they realized I was the one that would feed them and cried until I put food in their bowls!!

Al ~ Thanks you for the explanation of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples and tending to the other servants as well.  Today we tend to forget about the lack of transportation and what the dress code was in Jesus' day.  Jesus probably got the water from the well himself also.

Ed ~ You and I tend to think alike in being humbled if someone washed our feet.

Samantha ~ I, too, wish my church would have a foot washing ceremony.  That would be a humbling experience to experience what Jesus did for mankind.

I awoke this morning to beautiful sunshine!  It is remarkable how sunshine makes one feel better.  We have had about 4-5 days of cloudy, gloomy weather.  Even though it was in the mid-20's it seemed so much warmer.  We had some snow flurries yesterday but no accumulation.  I turned on the radio and they were talking about some accidents on the interstate to Chicago due to ICE!!!  And that northwest Indiana (Chicago/Gary area) has 9 inches of snow!!!  I guess it was bound to happen.... :-\

When I unlocked the door upon my arrival in Oregon the cat was right there waiting for whoever was coming in the door. He follows Keith everywhere, and cries at the door when Keith goes out. He slept with me part of the night, right next to my pillow and  when I got up he immediately wanted me to feed him, when went straight to the fridge and meowed louder than usual.

OK everyone sometime in March is the date. Haven't decided the exact date yet.

Marilyn!!  You're gonna go and do it.  Congratulations. <3

Larry, I'm so sorry to hear of Stacy's ongoing health concerns.  So good that her apartment is located so near the hospital though.  That makes is much easier for you.  I will be praying for you all.

It's another beautiful day here.  We've had warmth and sunshine, but rain is forecast for Thursday and on into the weekend.

Today needs to be a dog bath day for us.  I'm not sure it'll get done, but they are so dirty.  It doesn't take long with white dogs.  Poor Tyson's tail is all matted so I need to cut that off.  They are the same litter, but Rocko doesn't get matted like Tyson.  His hair is softer.  He's also the smaller, so must be more maltese than Westie.

But for now..........it's my turn to jump in the shower. :)  Nita

Today's clean humor from Crosswalks"

*Oriskany Falls*

The little old lady seated herself right behind the bus driver. Every ten minutes or so she'd pipe up, "Have we reached Oriskany Falls yet, sonny?"

"No, lady, not yet. I'll let you know," he replied, time after time.

A few minutes later, she piped up again "Are we there yet, sonny? Have we reached Oriskany Falls?"

Once again, he replied "No, not yet. I'll let you know when we get there!"

The hours passed, the old woman kept asking for Oriskany Falls, and finally the little town came into view.

Sighing with relief, the driver slammed on the breaks, pulled over and called out, "This is where you get out, lady."

"Is this Oriskany Falls?"

"YES!" he bellowed. "Get out!"

"Oh, I'm going all the way to Albany, sonny," she explained sweetly. "It's just that my daughter told me that when we got this far, I should take my blood pressure pill."

Jeanne and Nita, thanks for the grins!  :)

Larry, prayers are going up for you and family.  I hope Stacey gets along well, what an ordeal for all of you to go through again.  I'm so sorry.

I went to Grandparents' Day at school for my Youth Friends this morning.  Their elementary school has grades 3, 4 and 5.  They have a young man who teaches music and band, and he had the kids perform for us, each age group.  He's doing a terrific job with that mob of kids!  I was impressed.

After the little program, we went to the classrooms with the kids.  I spent half the time with Diana, then went to spend the rest with Juana.  It's amazing all the technology the teachers are using today....and every kid has a laptop computer!

After lunch I came home, picked up Sarah the puppy and took her to visit Beth.  I spent a couple hours with her, reading to her.  Then took Sarah to visit other residents.  She really enjoys all the attention, petting, even kisses she gets from residents and nurses there.  Someone always asks if she is the dog the residents will get to keep when they move into the new care home.  NOPE.

I emailed my trip story to the Ulysses News, then took in some photos to go with it.  They were excited to get it, and said they will publish it.

Time to go make a salad for my dinner (supper?)

Larry praying

I have read all the posts.  but Iam not commenting, except tosay I think Nita has had her exercise!

The trees are bowed down with snow.  Kass was looking at them and commented that the Bible says even creation will bow down before our Lord.  I wonder if the trees will look like this?

Well a busy day today.  Lots to do.

Have a great day everyone.

Larry:  Praying for you, Pat and especially for Stacey.

Marilyn:  Why wait?  Think of all the gas money you will save by not going back and forth  :D

Etta Sue:  I have heard that dogs don't have a sense of time.  Could this be the same for cats?  The cats are just trying to mess with your mind & showing you that they don't care  ;D  Isn't it interesting?  We really don't know.

We had such a fright on Monday night's potluck meal at Scouts.  Our DIL is highly allergic to either MSG or pine nuts.  One Mexican family made a dish with pine nuts (they use them a lot) and apparently our DIL had one bite of this without knowing - she immediately had trouble breathing.  She carries Benedryl and we were with her in the hallway watching to see it take effect - it did and she returned to normal very quickly.  Thank you Lord!  We are so fortunate to have such a loving DIL - all the girls are so wonderful to us.

Janet:  I have lots of time and want to make a special quilt for the Eagle award.  Found a cotton panel with two eagles and mountain/sky background.  Now to think of how to frame this on a quilt.  This g-son has also been chosen for a leadership conference back east sometime.  12 - going on 21.  By the way, your trip was so interesting.  Thank you.

Well, back to cooking.  Wish you could all taste some of this.

I voted, messed up a little, as didn't recognize the title of one I intended to vote for, but......that's life, I guess.

I did walk/run intervals on the treadmill at the Sr. Ctr. today.  Been a little lax on my exercise, and that's not good.  My blood pressure was inching back up again.

Etta Sue, I get so many emails, just wish they were personal or forwards from friends, instead of so much junk.  Stay warm!  They are predicting our weather to change for colder soon; it has been wonderfully warm here.

I am framing four of my prints of the Nativity, Diane has three already sold for me!!  Yea!!  That's so nice.

I'm reading a really good book by Nicholas Sparks, think I'll get off here and go read a while.

Today really feels like winter is on the way.  I finally had to wear a heavy jacket. Was starting to think that it had been a waste of money having my parka's drycleaned!

I am praying for your daughter, Larry.  Also for you and Pat.

Nothing exciting happening here at the moment.  Glad that you are back safe from your visit, Marilyn.  Liked your picture in landscape and also voted while in the area....

Cats can also miss their owners.  Squeek is so unhappy when the kids go away.  I have to spend a lot of time comforting her.  She has gotten rather senile lately and doing the strangest things....Now eight plus yrs.....so guess we will visit old age together.  Al asked about the name...she came with it.  Suits her as she has a voice that is a definate squeek.  Kind of like chalk on a blackboard ::)

Time to go and get my dinner.  Janet, I have been feeling a lot more perky since starting my shake again.  Good stuff!

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Liz

Hi everyone.  It isn't as cold here today and the sun is out with little wind.  It is to get into the 50's this morning.  I walked to the drug store, which is about a block away, and back this morning for a couple of items.  We always forget to pack something we need.  As soon as I finish this I will walk over to the hospital and spend a couple of hours with Stacey.  By ten in the morning the nurses have completed their morning rituals.  I found I can go into the Spinal Center, which is directly across the street from the apartments, and there is a covered walkway from that facility to the hospital.

Stacey and we are just in a holding pattern until they are able to do the surgery.  We are hoping it will be tomorrow, but won't know until later in the day.  I had a call last evening from the Deacon on call at our church and she and a couple of other church friends are planning on coming down to spend sometime with us tomorrow and to visit Stacey. They know her because Stacey has gone to church with us on occasion during the last two years.

We ate at a very good Mexican place last evening that is close by.  We shared a dish that was plenty for both of us.

Nothing much else new.  I see it is time for me to head to the hospital.

Good Morning from rainy Northern California I am so glad I mowed the back yard  on Tuesday It sure did need it. Now we will get to the front maybe when Keith is here if it doesn't rain for the whole 3½ days.

I have a load of laundry in the dryer already I put it in the washer as soon as I got back from Curves. I ate a PB and J sandwich for breakfast, was tired of oatmeal. Not much on my plate for today. After work I have to go pick up my Senior food Box and Brown bag of groceries. this county takes good care of the Seniors and I am so thankful for the help they give me.

Larry I am praying daily for Stacey.

Good morning!  I think our weather took a change toward cooler during the night, but haven't actually gone outside to check!  ;)

Liz, so glad the shakes are helping you!  Our cat Dinah sure misses us when we go away for a while.  All I have to do is go into the garage and call "MEOW," and she comes running!

Larry, remembering you, Pat and especially Stacey today.  May God continue to give you strength and courage...and faith.

I don't have any 'have-to-dos' today, but will try to do something worthwhile.  For sure, am going to finish this really good book I am reading.  ;)  We are invited to a client appreciation dinner tonight with our financial planner.  He's going to talk about the downturn, and we are looking forward to hearing what he will say.

Later!

Larry:  You sure must know your way around the hospital.  Be sure to contact the resident Chaplain.  I used to be a volunteer Chaplain at a hospital and there are so many little things that can be of help. It is really nice that some of your church friends will visit.  Take care.

Liz:  Our good friends inherited a cat that belonged to their deceased son.  If the cat was awake, he was meowing and this would go on all the time - they would have to shut the cat in another room if company came - it was really odd behavior. And, the cat had always been noisy.  That cat has crossed the rainbow bridge now -

I have had the beginning of a cold for two days and opted to not walk today.  Well, there is ice on the ground too.  Company for dinner tonight and they only have to walk 7 and 9 houses up from us.

Did anyone notice that the big three motor executives used private planes at a cost of almost $4,000 per hour to fly to beg for taxpayer money?????  I think we need a revival of common sense in this country.  Common sense and stewardship.

Al No that is not the same as commodities,  and you can go sign up at the Grace church on Hiller road.  You get them on the third Thursday of every month if you qualify. Just take your drivers license and proof of income. It may take awhile to get on the brown bag list I don't know. You can also call the Food for People in Eureka  for more info.

Carol yesterday you said you wanted details. Well there are no details to report at this time. I will be moving me and dogs up  sometime in March before my car insurance and tags are due So I can  get the changes done in Oregon instead of California. Whatever it is it will be a very quiet  arrangement either here or there. We don't want any trouble from his ex so prefer to keep it quiet for the time being. It will probably be here to keep it from being in the paper there. Maybe at my DIL's parent's house. Her father is a minister and he married them.

Amen on that, Carol!  Greed knows no bounds....people in the UAW making $72.00 per hour (including benefits) and going on strike for more--same for the airplane industry.  It is depressing.

I got six mats and backs cut, also the glass for those cut.  My frames shoud arrive on Monday so I can get them assembled.  Nice to sell some of the prints of my work, after a long dry spell.  :)

It will soon be time to dress for dinner, it is casual, so no big deal.

Hey, Pat!  We miss you in here.  <3

Whew!  A busy day!  I took the photo to my classmate of her husband.  It was a photo of a photo that I put in a frame.  He said it was taken in early '90's right after he refurbished his '57 Chevy.  I do believe he had a tear in his eye.  Then Ivalou and I went to the bank and on to Pizza Hut.  After that we stopped by the hospital to see Jody who was the hostess Tuesday for Euchre.  Early the next morning she had pressure in her chest and called 911.  She didn't have a heart attack and doesn't need stents but she was being tested for her kidneys and possible esophagus...and her BP was high...200 over something.  She was still in ICU today but the doctor was releasing her this afternoon.  BUT they went out her front door and the EMT locked it.  Now the key won't unlock the door.  Jody knew that...she always went out the back door but the storm door is locked...she locks it at night.  So now someone will have to break a window to get in!!!

Then we went grocery shopping and then to find me some Sunday black shoes.  What I liked had heels...no no!  Or the low heels looked like man-shoes!!!  GRrrr!!.  Ivalou went to the Party place for paper items for Thanksgiving day.  Then home.

Now I am going to church at 7 to learn the software for the new Projector!

Whew!!!

Good evening to all.  Today I got some good news.  I went for an Echo- Cardiogram and praise the Lord all is clear.

God is so good and he looks after his children.  Tonight I had the op pertunity to minister to a group of seniors and what a blessing that was.  Yesterday I did not think that I would be able to sing but again the Lord answered prayer and I thank him for this.

Janet:  I never did get the report on your trip so I hope that you will be able to send it to me.

Well God bless you all.    Gord and Noreen <3 :)

Heard something on the radio.  Voltair would have been 300+ years old.  When he died he said that Christianity and the Bible would be wiped out.  About one hundred years later a Bible printing company bought his property and used it and Voltair's presses to print Bibles!
THE BIBLE STANDS

Everything is white.  I have been on my walk, only a half a mile, a walk none the less.  Feels good to get out and do this.

I have a big day today, so must run.

God bless and know that I am praying.

Post by: Larry Hanna on November 21, 2008, 09:12:19 AM
Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful, but really cold, morning here in Georgia.  They said it was 32 degrees here in Atlanta.  We kept a window open all night here at the apartment as it get way too hot in here.  This is an old heating/AC system and hard to control.  Fortunately there are rollout windows so we can get cooler air into the apartment.

We spoke to Stacey a little while ago.  They had taken her off the nitro drip yesteday morning and she did fine until about 3 pm when she was awoken from a sound sleep (had taken a sleeping pil) by severe chest pain.  They put her back on the nitro drip and gave her some morphine as chest pain is hard on the heart.  The cardiologist came in early this morning and suggested perhaps she was suffering from anxiety that was causing the pain but she challenged him by waying she was in a sound sleep when the pain occurred.  The surgery won't be today so it will be Monday or Tuesday unless an emergency occurs during the weekend, which we don't anticipate.

She wanted to try to sleep this morning so Pat and I both will go over to see her this afternoon.  That is when she is likely to have company, incluidng the folks from our church.  One of her ministers is suppose to visit her sometime today and bring her Communion.  He did this before when she was in the hospital.

Gord, happy to read your good news from the Echo.  We will take all the good news we can get.

Etta Sue, the thought occurs the lady with the front door problem would probably have saved money overall by having the lock fixed.  Glad she hadn't had a heart attack.  Must have been an exciting Euchre game.

Janet, nice to see you post about having a minute or two for yourself.  Glad to see you are selling your prints as well.

Marilyn, it is good your county has help with various food programs.  I am sure there are similar programs here.  I recently read about the Angelfood program, which apparently is like a cooperative, and appears not to be income limited.

Carol, I am beginning to know my way around several of the hospitals, actually much more so than I want to.  I sure don't like to read it is time for people to have ice on their walks and streets.  Hope that doesn't last long in your area.

Pat, you and Paul certainly are busy people.  Maybe sometime this next year things will settle down when you get moved to the new house and all settled in.

Judy, God is able to use a lot of things we just don't understand how it will work.  Your example about Voltaire is a great example.

Hi Al and all others who visit with us here on CP today.

Good Morning everyone. It is cold here this morning 36° right now. The heater even came on this  morning I have it set at 60° all the time except for a few months a year when I turn it down to 55°.

Keith told me last night that he  maybe coming down Tuesday instead of Wednesday and  bringing Fritzy (the cat) with him this trip. That will an interesting few days as the dogs will be in their own element this time the meet with him. I have the big dog crate in the living room where the cat can have his litter box, He can sleep in there too. He does like his little crate and sometimes gets in there my himself to sleep at night. I brought the big crate in when Bebe had her injured leg.

The economy has really effect Keith's work, the other man that works in his office has filed form unemployment and Keith's secretary is working 4 hours a day 3 days per week. He hasn't had anything to do all this week. A client came in to talk to him about drawing the plans for a house and is due back in today to discuss it further.

Please pray the the Lord will bring Keith some work.

I have to bake a pie today for the church potluck tomorrow and I think I will make a batch of peanut butter cookies too.

Did you see the beautiful Sunrise pic I posted  HERE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=7752.0)

I'm sorry, Gord, I thought I had sent the trip story to you.  I will do that as soon as I finish this.  In reading my printed out copy, I found a few mistakes which have now been corrected.

Darrel had to go on a trouble call this morning.  I have a couple errands to run, and this evening is Jeff's (our son-in-law) play.  It's a dinner play, one of those audience participation mysteries.  Should be fun.

Larry, glad Stacey got relief from her pain, and hope they get the surgery done soon.  That waiting is hard, for all of you!

Hi, Pat---you really have a busy life just now, huh?  Glad you and Paul are both in good health to enjoy (and tolerate) it!

Etta Sue, you do stay busy, don't you?  That keeps you young.  ;)

I need to go eat my grapefruit for breakfast!  Yum!

I went to church to learn the software for the projector and screen.  Interesting and I was amazed at how clear everything is on the overhead screen.  The software if 'Sunday Plus'.  There will be six of us taking turns using the software on Sundays.

Then when I went to bed, I remembered that I forgot to take Ivalou's and my gifts to church for our Secret Sisters.  My Secret Sister is always there before me on Sundays and always standing in the doorway beside the table where we put the gifts!!!!!!!  So I got up at 8 this morning and called the church..left a message.  Shortly after 9 the church secretary called and said she would be there until noon.  So I took the gifts and the laptop.  I installed 'Sunday Plus' on my laptop...now I need time to play!!!

I got home around 10:30 and called Ivalou to see if she would like to go to Lapel for lunch.  She said she was just now thinking about if I would want to go...GMTA!!  After we ate, we went to Dollar General.  Upon leaving I noticed that my right tire looked lower than my left tire.  So I drove to Noblesville and all the tires were fine...if anything the left had too much air in it.  Then to Aldi's and Ivalou got her frozen turkey for Thursday!

After letting Ivalou out, I stopped at the mailbox and got my mail.  Now I am in and hope I don't have to go out until mail tomorrow!!!!!

And I can play on the computer with 'Sunday Plus'.   ::)

Well I may have a couple of young fellows at my Saturday Kids Sewing Class.  Elizabeth's friend and my grandson.  This will prove interesting.  They want to make giftf for Mom for Christmas.

B-r-r-r-r, Judy--snow?  I hope we don't have any for a while.  But it is past mid-November, so it could snow anytime now (could have even earlier, but it has been warm here until yesterday.)  Enjoy the sewing class (teaching.)

Etta Sue, I wonder if that is the program we have at church.  Sometimes young kids are running it for the music, but they start daydreaming or something and forget to keep up.  ;)  I see you have a new face here!  I like it.

We are just home from the play "Who Killed the King?"  It was a very enjoyable evening, only I ate too much and am miserable.  Why did I do that?  Grrrr.

No news here, just checking in.  See you tomorrow!

I had a busy day of babysitting, and have Maycie still, but she's sleeping.  My son in law's father went Home after a long battle with Leukemia and his funeral was today.  I babysat for Megan for that.  Then Angel came over with Maycie, and I decided it was time for a GGma-Maycie slumber party.  We party early. haha  She was in bed by 8.

I guess I'll go and watch Super Nanny.  I hear it on in the other room.  God bless everyone.  Nita

Hi everyone.  It looks like I may be first here today.  It has really gotten cold here, down to 23 degrees here in Atlanta.  However, the sun is out.  Unfortunately there is some wind today which makes it seem colder.

The surgery is scheduled for Monday morning about 11 am.  The doctor told Stacey they would take her down around 9:30.  The surgery is expected to take from 4 to 6 hours so it is going to be a long day.  We are going to visit with Stacey at the hospital this morning and then will head back to our home.  We have a truck full of laundry to do.  We will go to church in the morning and then back dow here to stay for as long as we need to do so.

Larry I am praying for Stacey

Janet I am praying for Beth

Liz I am praying for Wendy

Please continue to keep my DIL Sarah in your prayers her MS is exacerbating, she wakes up every morning very stiff and hurting, Gilbert says she tries not to let on how bad it is around other people. She tries so hard to keep going and doing  all the things a wife and mother needs to do and then some.  Gilbert tells her to rest but she just keeps going until she can't do any more.

Well It looks like Keith will be coming down on Monday so he doesn't have to drive in the rain on Tuesday. With him here during the week he will finally get to see what my week days entail

Tuesday is going to be a busy morning, with Curves at 5:30, the chiropractor at 8:15 work at 9:15, picking up my groceries at 10:30.  he will mow the front yard one of the days and we have to recycle  too. He also needs to go out to Gilbert's house  to take some photos and discuss with the kids  what they want as far as the remodel goes so he can draw the plans. So it will be  a busy week. He may return to Oregon on by the weekend as his sons are going to be in town and he wants to make sure he gets to visit with them too.

Well, I finally know what this new physical therapist is going to do.  On the first, second, thrird, fourth, fifth, eighth, and ninth I will be going in each afternoon at 2PM for wrapping and massage therapy.  Following that I will probably have new and special compression stockings.  She seems to think I can be rid of the swelling in my legs by means of all these things.  Pray that it will be so and that I'll be able to return to my bed at night instead of the recliner.

Larry, I've prayed for you & Pat and for Stacey - that you'll all know His Presence and love and that the outcome will be perfect.

It rained quite a bit last night, but it isn't right now.

Al, it is good to at least know what the doctors have planned for you.  I pray all goes the best possible and you will be back in your bed soon for good sleep!

Larry, I will be praying for Stacey, you and Pat on Monday (as well as today and tomorrow.)  Those are such trying and tiring times for you all.

Gord, did you get the story?  I did email it to you when you asked, but did so again.  Is your email current in your profile on here?

Nita, such fun having those little ones there.  But sorry about the death in the family.  I just got an email from my youngest daughter saying her father in law has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, and one lung is already completely encapsulated.  They say no cure, really no treatment.  He's such a fun, hard working man.....sad.  And my son in law's Mom who has lung cancer has lost half of one lung, her prognosis is 50-50 chance, says one doctor, the other says 33% chance of survival.  Tough times.

There is a big craft show in town, and I am going in to check it out.  Need to stop by and visit Beth and Mom, too.

Thanks for your prayers, Marilyn.

Thanks for asking about my two furgirls.  If someone was standing outside this morning they would have probably thought I had lost it.  I was laughing so hard.  With me making this afghan, I have scrap yarn all over the living room floor...some of it is rolled into balls.  Inky and Ali both will get a small ball of yarn and take off...most of the time batting it with a paw.  And that lets the ball unroll.  So I sometimes have strings of yarn all over the place!  Today Inky was all tangled in the yarn.  She couldn't figure out why that small ball of yarn was following her wherever she went!  I laughed and laughed at her.  How she got herself untangled, I don't know.  I rolled up the yarn again and then Ali got in the act.  She was playing like a kitten, running, pouncing on the ball, turning somersaults!  So  funny.  They sure were getting their exercise!!

It has been fun playing with 'Sunday Plus'.  Still very much to learn but perhaps I can help others when they have questions and/or problems.

I am going to bake some Zucchini Bread this afternoon.  Tomorrow evening at 5pm our church is have their Harvest Dinner.  Everyone brings a dish to share.  Should be lots of fun.

It is cold.....brrrrr!  Only 26° right now at 1:24pm.  Brrrr!  Overcast with some sunshine tossed in now and then.  Did I say Brrrrrr?

Don has been installing a DVD on the t.v.  There isn't much on tv. even with all the channels available.  the library has so many movies that there must be something for us to enjoy.

I am in my sewing room and listening to a book on CD - so nice.  I just made the menu list for Thanksgiving and the girls will provide one or two things each so there will be more than enough. It is much too warm to get into the holiday mood.

Pat:  Enjoy your trip and holiday with Paul.  We are driving some neighbors to their church service Wednesday night to listen to music and a short sermon.

Gord:  Great news for you!

Al:  Praying that all of this new leg treatment will succeed.

Had an email from SeniorNet and they are moving the headquarters to Washington, D.C.  It looks like another two weeks.

No, Gord, I didn't know you had worked as a tour guide for Niagara Falls.  I'll bet you met a lot of interesting people!  And that is such a spectacularly beautiful area!  I'm so glad Pat met us there and shared it with us; that's a vacation I will never forget.  I do NOT remember all that the guides tell us, not without my trusty notebook, anyway!  I take copious notes.

The craft show was really nice.  The most popular two things this year are jewelry---lots and lots and lots of jewelry! and candles.  I bought a little fold-up fabric thing with handles for little Lexi.  Inside in pouches is a small doll, a robe, pillow and blanket (for the doll).  Cute, and only $6.00.

Etta Sue, I would have liked to see your furkids playing with the yarn.  Our dog and cat play, roll and tumble and chase.  The cat is taller than the dog, and they are pretty evenly matched, and such fun to watch.  Every morning, they are full of energy and put on quite a show for us.  At night, they curl up in the same dog bed, Darrel covers them with a blanket and they sleep together like that.  ;)

I want to start wrapping Christmas gifts as I get them.  We have decided not to spend so much on gifts this year.  Why buy STUFF for people who already have too much STUFF?  And I need to get the room ready for Beth's friend John, who is coming for Christmas.

Later! :run:

Janet, that's so sweet....your dog and cat sleeping together. :) My little dog, Rocko, and our "visiting" Pom, Mia, play together all the time.  They have the same energy and when they get started, they're fun to watch.  Tyson never gets involved.  I sometimes wish he'd play more, but his nature is quiet, seldom ever barks and is so sensitive to whatever I'm feeling. Whatever is going on...he always looks at me to see my reaction.   I love them all.

Larry, I'll be praying for you, especially on Monday with Stacy's surgery.

Al, I really hope that the strategy the doctor has for your treatment will help you greatly.  I like sleeping in my recliner sometimes, but wouldn't want to have to do it every night.

I just talked to Jane, and we're going to my daughter's for Thanksgiving.  Kim really wants us to and ask me to ask if Jane would come.  She's having all of Paul's family, and this will be the first one without Dad Kirk.   I guess I'll make a yam casserole and maybe a fruit salad.

Janet, I don't buy stuff anymore.  I'll get something for the babies, but my older grandkids get cash, and I don't buy for anyone else.  There just isn't the money, and they know that.  We've agreed to buy just for the kids.  Well, except for my oldest daughter, Rene.  I just can't convince her to not get me Christmas presents.  I wish she wouldn't.

Time to feed the dogs and maybe turn on some lights.  It got dark all of a sudden. lol

Al, your treatment sounds like what two persons I know had, and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the condition.  My cousin had it first, she was age 50.  An acquaintance from our previous church was next and she is nearer my age.  The wrapping and massage is what they had to undergo.

My cousin died of heart disease (a previous condition unrelated to this) so I don't know how she would have responded to the treatment.  The friend told me that she will likely have to have this done for the rest of her life, and her husband does the massage at home now.  They had to go to Lubbock to learn how to do this.  Both cases involved their arms, and they had swelling and pain.

I sure hope your treatment helps you, and you can get some real rest.  I will pray for you that you have a good outcome.

And Larry, I will also be praying for Stacy on Monday for the surgery.  Yes, it will be a long day, and I will pray for you and Pat as well, that you may have the strength you will need for the day.  Waiting is such a long wearisome process.

Hello to everyone else, and y'all have a good Lord's Day tomorrow!
~Janice

It is late, do not feel like sleeping, read all the posts....so here I am!

Made dinner for the kids tonight.  Then Wendy and I watched the movie (DVD) Wall-E on their new Blue screen.  Some sort of thing my SIL got that makes it like a movie theatre.  Don't know when I have enjoyed a movie so much.  Wendy is in so much pain and it was nice to see her relax for a time.

Only getting something small for my granddaughter at Xmas.  We do not exchange gifts now..use the money to buy food hampers and give to the SPCA.  There are so many in need and we are not rich, simply feel it is better to help those with a real need.  Help my granddaughter with her expenses and that about does it for my budget.  That and giving to the Mission.  Always a little to add to the hampers.

Praying for all the needs and appreciate the prayers for my daughter.  I also remembered Keith, Marilyn.  The work situation is sure not good and Amanda will be looking for a job when this course is finished.  The news has become so terrible, I can hardly stand to read the newspapers now.  We are so blessed and there is much to thank God for, compared to what is happening in so many lives.

Squeek continues to do strange things, like getting into the bathtub and crying for help, going on the leather couch after yrs. of knowing it was a NOT thing to do, etc.  Seems to forget what she has learned.  We don't get angry.....I can relate.  Guess Squeek and I will go into the twilight zone, hand and paw, together!

Time to think about going to bed with a book.  Glad that I don't have to sit in a recliner like Al.  Sure hope the treatment works, Al.  Will pray about that also.

Pleasant Evening/Day and God Bless.

Liz

Al, I remembered that name, it is lymph edema (all one word).  It is more common in women I think but men get it too.

Al Janice beat me to it, I was thinking the same about the lymph edema. I forgot tot ell you that I am praying for you Bro. Al. Did you call  the Food  for people place in Eureka. 445-3166

Liz maybe Squeek has a kidney infection. It i s pretty common for cats from what I've been told.

I ate too much at the church supper last night so I didn't sleep well, I will undoubtedly sleep better tonight.

The youth pastor is preaching today and he sure is a spirit filled preacher so I don't want to miss that.

Cold here this morning but not as cold as it probably is in the eastern states. at least here it is tolerable.

Hi everyone.  I am ready for church but it is still about an hour before time to leave.  We will go back downtown later this afternoon and spend time with our daughter during the early evening as know that will be a long night for her.

Thank you all so much for your prayer support.  It really means a lot to know people are praying for her and for us.  I would be less than honest if I didn't admit this is also very wearing on us.  Pat and I did sleep very well last night in our own bed and I do feel better today.  I sure don't want to add any burdens to Pat at this time so have to stay healthy.

Al, sure hope your new treatments do the job for you and you will be able to sleep once again in your bed.

Marilyn, so sad to read of the continued decline your DIL is experiencing.  That is such an insidious disease.

With regard to Christmas shopping this year, we have decided to buy gifts only for the great grandchildren and the adults will get a little cash gift.  Neither Pat nor I feel like shopping.  I looked at toys the other night at Walmart and it is really overwhelming plus they have so many toys already.  I heard this morning that giving to charity is really doing pretty well.  I think this probably represents an understanding that most of us may not be exempt from need sometime in our lives and people care about other people.

Etta Sue, cats can be a lot of fun to watch, i.e., when they are not being totally aggrativing.  :)  That Zucchini Bread sounds good.  I always have liked that.

Hope you all have a good day.

Don went to church but I was still coughing away.  It is quite warm & above all week and has been this entire month, which is normally our 2nd. snowiest month.  Not so.  Just dreadful.  Talked with daughter last night and she will bring the children here for Thanksgiving & possibly staying one night so we can chat.  Her husband is flying to Texas to be with his father for a big birthday and weekend celebration.  We wanted to pack turkey baskets after church today and now I can't participate.

This cold - I have lost my taste in everything.  Very strange.  I was reading that Sarah P. is being offered all kinds of interviews.  People who didn't have her on t.v. before the election are now wanting to be pals - no comment is necessary.

We bought some Honey Bees.  Well, there is a great need for coffee farmers to have honey bees and we always choose some gift through Luth. World Relief - usually goats. Well over 90% of the money goes straight to the project so we always feel that it is being used correctly and sanely.  We usually buy a goat.  Our grandchildren are always open to giving up a gift and they love knowing what that money is going towards.

Larry:  Praying for Stacey tomorrow - may the surgeon's hand be guided by an angel.

Al:  When do you have your treatment?  It sounds like a series of treatments?

I went to church this morning...the first Sunday service with the new overhead screen and projector.  Jill did a great job running the cues.  Our Sunday School teacher fell last week and hurt his knee.  He is 6'5" tall so it is hard for him to get around.  He was at church but didn't stay for Sunday School.  So we had an improvised class with good discussion.  Later 7 of us ladies went to Panera Bread for lunch.  Light lunch since we are having pot luck at church at 5pm for our Harvest Dinner.

Bright and sunny.  When I greeted the minister I said that a month ago, I left my sunroof open while I was in church.  This morning it was only 22°.  I didn't open it this morning!!

Larry ~ I will be praying for Stacy, Pat and you tomorrow along with all the doctors and nurses who will be working during surgery.

Good afternoon.  Hope all had a good day in the Lord's house. :)

Our service was a testimonial service about two groups who had just returned from short term missions trip   One went to Cuba and the other went to Nicaragua and the one that went to Nicaragua was a medical team of at least 17 people and only 4 or 5 of them were Christians.  It is amazing what happened throughout the time they were there.  The Christians had many opportunities  to witness but as soon as they arrived the pastor of the church wanted to share and to pray for them.   Praise his wonderful name. <3

Al:   I hope that things will go well for you and you will be able to get back into your own bed to sleep.

Larry:  We are thinking about tomorrow and the Lord will give you the strength to get through. <3

Etta Sue;  I like your new picture you look very young and you are a very busy lady.  They tell me that keeps us young. :)

Have a great week to all. :coffee:    Gord and Noreen:
