Morning Devotional...
Strange Events
Acts 5:1-16 NLT
But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife's consent, he kept the rest.
Then Peter said, "Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren't lying to us but to God!"
As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. Then some young men got up, wrapped him in a sheet, and took him out and buried him.
About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, "Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?"
"Yes," she replied, "that was the price."
And Peter said, "How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too."
Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened.
The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon's Colonnade. But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them. Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord—crowds of both men and women. As a result of the apostles' work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter's shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

The sin that Ananias and Sapphira committed was not stinginess or holding back part of the money. It was their choice whether or not to sell the land and how much to give.
Their sin was lying to God and God's people--saying they gave the whole amount but holding back some for themselves and trying to make themselves appear more generous than they really were.
This act was judged harshly because dishonesty, greed, and covetousness are destructive in a church, preventing the Holy Spirit from working effectively. All lying is bad, but when we lie to try to deceive God and his people about our relationship with him, we destroy our testimony about Christ.

Thank you for that thought-provoking devotional today, Etta Sue.
Etta Sue thank you for the devotional today.
Not much going on so far today. Watched the Ducks football game last night, USC broke their winning streak and beat the Ducks 38-35, we are disappointed that they lost.
AMEN
Carol, No at this point we haven't met betty....At least I don't think I have. We are arranging to get together the next time she comes north!
How wonderful that y'all can get together, wish I were close enough to attend!
Thank you, Etta Sue, for such a great devotional reminding us that God expects us to display the virtues that our faith in Him impart to us.
This has been a challenging weekend, but I'm going to be back to normal tomorrow. :)
Today has certainly been a Sabbath - my day of rest.
May our Lord bless each of us and allow us to be able to serve Him through our love and service to others and to His beloveds around the world.
Ruth Ann
I have a funny cat. Tom is an old boy, and has his places to sleep in the house. He prefirs it outside, but comes in to get warm and to eat.
I also have birds. Enough said?
I went into the living room to see where he was and he as calmly sitting on a chair mesmerized by my birds. (Etta Sue Kitty TV!) I brought the birds into the kitchen ready to take them upstairs and turn around to see him on the table watching the birds again... Nothing threatening in his pose just watching TV!!!
He has been shooed off and the next step is back outside!
We had a cat and a parakeet - long time ago. The cat paid no attention to the bird... most of the time. But the bird learned how to escape from its cage - at night after the lights were off. Every night just as we began to doze off we'd hear the most horrible screeching and run to find the cat was after the bird who was out of the cage. Once we discovered how the bird was managing to open the cage, and corrected that, we again had peaceful nights.
Good morning (evening to you!) from Trier, the oldest city in Germany, founded in the 900s. I will soon leave for a walk into town, will stay there most of the day with friends met on the ship. We could bus back to the ship for lunch, but we want to eat in town, more time to look around and take photos, shop if we want.
Darrel isn't going into town today, guess he will have a lazy day aboard the MS River Rhapsody. It is very foggy outside, so probably chilly as well. I dress in lots of layers!
Must run, but wish you all a peaceful, healthy and happy day!
Hi everyone. I woke up early this morning as had gone to bed early last night. I discovered when I went to bed that I had failed to take my morning medicine and think that may be why I was feeling so tired duriing the day yesterday. We did have a nice church service and then Pat and I went to a local place for a quick lunch. They had the neatest new Coca Cola dispensing machine that has a large variety of Coke brands and then the ability to add various flavoring to them such as vanilla, strawberry, orange, etc. I tried a couple of the flavors but think I just prefer the original taste. We became concerned yesterday when our daughter didn't call and we were not able to reach her by phone. About five pm we called one of her ministers to see if she had been a church yesterday morning and she had not. We were about ready to get in the car and drive to her apartment when the phone finally rang and it was her. She said she was all right but hadn't felt very good yesterday and had slept through church time and was sleeping during the afternoon. Needless to say we were greatly relieved. Just my usual Monday activities today and this evening. The housekeeprs and lawn people should be here this morning.
Marilyn, we had a rather dreary day here yesterday. The sun did get out for a little while in the afternoon but not for long.
Betty, the sermon by your minister sounds like it was very assuring and uplifting.
Carol, I think the newspapers are in the process of putting themselves out of business due to the lack of any objectivity. We have a Panera bread place not far from us but have only been there a couple of times but enjoyed it.
Etta Sue, like you I have yet to attend a potluck and go away hungry. It is always interesting the variety of dishes that folks bring. Hope your blood test produces the results you want to hear. I am waiting to hear from my doctor as some of my blood counts were either lower or higher than the norms. He may not be concerned due to all of the medicines I take. Thanks for the new devotional for this week. We can never deceive God as this Bible story illustrates.
Ruth Ann, I am sure you are relived to have the weekend challenges past. Glad you were able to rest yesterday.
Judy, I thought you were going to tell us your cat ate one of the birds. I expect it is the sudden movements that birds make that attract the cat so much but also its natural hunting instinct. Jeanne, it sounds like your experience was closer to the cat getting the bird for awhile.
Janet, hope you have a great time in Trier today with your new friends. It sounds like Darrel is ready for a nice restful day enjoying what the ship has to offer.
Carol,

Thank you for all the comments on the devotion.
It is interesting how stuffed and full I felt yesterday after the potluck lunch that I am hungry this morning!! The thought of food last evening was terrible. Now my stomach is growling and I can't eat...not until the nurse gets my blood. Oh, how I hope I am only stuck once today!
Then I plan to go to Bob Evans for breakfast and then to Office Depot for ink and big envelopes.
Then Home, James!(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*

I am back on board the ship, after enjoying six hours walking around the ancient city of Trier. It is very interesting. The weather is cold, crisp and beautiful, perfect for walking, but made stoping in a warm cafe for hot chocolate an especially nice treat. The Christmas Markets are open, and remind me of state fairs at home, in that there are many booths selling things, and lots of them offering various foods. We managed to try several new things and all tasted good!
I haven't seen Darrel since breakfast; guess I will go find him and see how his day went.
Larry, glad your daughter was all right. That was pretty scary!
Janet, it sounds as though you are having a wonderful time. And what great pictures you'll have to share with us. If you need help posting them, let me know.
Larry, what a scare that must have been for you and Pat when you couldn't contact Stacey. And what a relief to finally hear from her.
Looks like this will be a gray day but at least the ground is still bare. ;)
Etta Sue: I am so glad that you did not have to spit out any food at the church harvest meal :D
Larry: Understand, that must have been so worrisome not to reach Stacey. Glad that she is alright.
Judy: It sounds like you have an independent cat. We had a husky/elkhound who just preferred to sleep in a snowbank instead of the house.
Another coffee pot bit the dust this morning. We could have retired earlier if only our coffee pots would work longer. This is only a few months. A plastic thingy broke and it doesn't heat the water. Junk.
No bible study this Wednesday but I do have quilting on Tues night and nothing to work on. Must find fresh cranberries at a decent price or the tradition will be broken.
I am SO happy!! :) :D ;D ^-^ I got another email from my conceptual editor; had to go back in and make some final changes to the manuscript, just finished that and got it sent. When I came back to email, I have an email from my cover designer saying he met with the entire design team today and should have a cover design idea (or two or three) ready to send for my approval later today or tomorrow! So it was totally worth it to lug this computer along. But I intend to investigate the IPad before long. The friend I walked with all day today has one along, and it's great!
I didn't get a nap, but progress on the book takes precedence any day over napping!
I think my battery is low and I am using the adapter to charge a camera battery now, so better scoot!
Hi, friends,
It's already been a great day. Someone in my family needed a bit of advanced Excel assistance. What joy comes from serving others and being able to share knowledge and skills! :)
Now, to sign off and read my Bible. Then work on this apartment.
It's rainy today and supposed to be a bad day with storms tomorrow.
Tomorrow night will be a highlight of the week -- some of you who have been here for a long time remember the elderly lady I love so much who had to move to Florida to be with her daughter after a bad stroke. Well, she's now 92 and although disabled, was strong enough to get with brothers and sisters in a small town not far from Nashville over the weekend. And, our seniors Bible study group moved the meeting to tomorrow, so that she and her daughter may attend.
It will be a great reunion with one of our church's great saints. Now, I need to decide when food(s) to take to the dinner. She likes "country cookin", so most likely I'll do some of those great pinto beans I make and maybe a meatball and potato dish. :)
Y'all have a blessed day with our Lord.
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
I don't often post others' writings here, but this devotional message today is too great to keep to myself:
Did you ever wonder why God demands our thanksgiving and praise? Why should such a great, loving, self-sufficient Being want so much for us to praise him? We are tiny, passing, ignorant creatures. What difference does it make if we praise him?
When we praise God and thank him sincerely, from our hearts, we recognize him for who he is. We see ourselves for who we are. Our relationship with him is put right again. Life itself is put right. Praise and thanksgiving are important not only for individuals but for families, churches, societies, and nations. To the extent that we sincerely thank, praise, and worship God, our relationship with him is restored. God is God, and we are his people.
We still get distracted, however. We forget. Our fears and desires lead us to focus in other directions. How can we correct that? Form this simple habit. Every time the Lord blesses you, even in some small way, immediately thank him. Every time you grow concerned about anything, immediately bring it to him.
Thanking God and trusting him will help make a right relationship with God a moment-by-moment reality.
Very nice message of immediately giving thanks.
Dear Ruth Ann: A friend I have known for 61 years came for a ten day visit, last week, and I had such a blessed time!! She is in constant communication with God and, as the message says, her immediate praise, Thanksgiving and requests spoke to me of how close she is to the heart of God. He is truly, her constant companion and friend. We ended each day in prayer and I know God answered many of the prayers that were made......
Seeing how she was in tune with God because of her prayer life and reading His word encouraged me to want to have the same relationship!!
Carol, As far as I know, Judy B and I have never met. I did spend my teenage years in an area close to hers, and my Dad still lives there. It would be interesting to find out that we've possibly met somewhere before. Hopefully we'll be able to meet sometime.
I had a busy day at work, but really enjoyed it. I was able to spend time in a small school visiting the students in the classrooms from JK to Grade 3. They are so young, especially the JK students - and so trusting. I was glad the weather was good, as I have an hour's drive to get to that school.
Good morning! At 7:30 this morning it was 12 degrees. Brrrrr! But the Lord has provided a comfortable home with a working furnace to keep me warm, so I'm thanking Him.
Hi from Atlanta. We had a very warm, perhaps record high day here yesterday and it seems to be warm again this morning. I had a very enjoyable and sort of laid back day yesterday. We did enjoy the new place we ate at yesterday for lunch with my men's group and will definitely go back. It is owned by a former major minor league baseball pitcher and another man. It is a sports place and has about 14 different large screen TV's where they can broadcast all of the games on at one time. We were about the only group there at 1 pm yesterday and the owner sat down with us for a few minutes and told us about himself and his restaurant experience and his background. The food was very good. This evening we have our weekly choir practice rather than on our normal Wednesday so that the ladies/men are free on Wednesday evening if they are working on food preparations for Thanksgiving.
Janet, you must be a very strong person to be able to tolerate a 6 hour walk. It sounds like you had a marvelous day. Pat expressed her pleasure with her new Kindle Fire and is sitting watching a video on it as I write. When I came home from coffee this morning she was using it and said "this is really neat". She is also reading a book on it. She has to do one thing in the kitchen and then sit and rest for awhile before tackling something else. It sounds like you book will soon be on the market.
Carol, isn't it disgusting what cheap parts they use in things these days that don't last anytime, such as your coffee pot. We aren't having Bible study this wekk either but will resume next week. Have you bought any pecans lately. They are now about $10 per pound in our area.
Ruth Ann, they are predicting some rain for us this evening but only a small chance for tomorrow. I agree it is nice to be able to use your skills to help someone else. So nice that you all are moving your bible study so your visiting friend can participate and see you all again.
Ruth, it sounds like you have a very spiritual friend. Glad you could spend time with her at this time of the year. Even in the midst of turmoil and illness there is always things to be grateful for.

Good morning.
The blood draw went well yesterday. The nurse said they used to put cheap sheets on the charts for people like me but now that they are paperless, they can't do that. So I suggested that she write her cheat sheet on paper and let me carry it in my billfold. So she wrote on the back of my medication list! Now when I have a blood draw, I can show the person this and they know what to do! And no, I didn't get anything for this suggestion!!
I ate at Bob Evans and then got supplies at Office Depot and home. Great day!
Janet, I know you are excited about your book! I sure didn't realize there was that much to publishing a book! Glad I am not a writer but can't wait to read your book!!
Ruth Ann, our sermon was about thanking God. What a great message your posted.
Carol, sounds like you got some lemons in your coffee pots! Ivalou has one of those Kuerig coffeemakes and she doesn't like it. Coffee is too strong and too expensive. So she uses instant. Now you know to use instant rather than a pot, the pot has to be bad!!
Today is SAMS and only Betty and I are going. Ivalou doesn't feel well and Jane is cleaning today since she has appointments tomorrow. They like for me to read things from the internet so I have a couple of items to read.
Today it is raining and gloomy. A nice day to stay home and crochet! But I will do that this afternoon! ~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^

It's so great to hear from each of you. You're really dear and close even though we're many miles from each other.
Today I'll be mixing up a meatloaf for the Bible study tonight and then will take a disabled young friend to his job. He's not allowed to drive because of seizures, so he's constantly needing to ask someone for help. And, it's so sweet to see that he has such a great attitude about this terrible disability.
Well, I need to get busy, So, may our Lord be with each of us and may we be challenged to draw closer to Him as we go about our daily duties.
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
When I discovered I had run out of bread I planned on going to get some. Just bread, of course. But you know how that goes. I'd probably come home with another $50 worth of groceries. Then I remembered that I have a lovely bread machine and plenty of ingredients. So this afternoon my house will be smelling wonderful - and just for me, not to give as a gift as it usually is.
I think I'll make a pot of soup to go with it.
:) :Good day to all at C.P. Well I had to go back and check to see when I last posted and where does the time go. Since I was last on site there has been so much happen and I don't want to bore you with it all. It seems that the weeks just fly by and you don't realize how fast that happens. :o
Hi to Betty as I have not had the pleasure of welcoming you to C.P. It is always good to have new people. :)
Well a very good friend of past away very suddenly on Nov. 12th. and it was pangcriatic cancer which took him very fast. I was asked to speak and sing at the funeral which was a wonderful privelage as many members of the family do not know the Lord. Then I was able to be a V.O.L. at the men's Promise Keepers conference in Toronto Where in the two days there was over 8000 men gatered to here the great speakers and on Friday night at least 400 men came forward to accept Christ. I was able to talk to 4 young men who are in a program at a place called Teen Challenge and that was a blessing just to be able to do that. So God is so good to let me ba able to do things like that and to be a witness at a funeral. Praise his name.
I must go as I have to take Noreen out to a bible prayer group for Christian Woman's group. May the Lord be with you all this week and Janet have a wonderful holiday. Gordon and Noreen :) :cp: :bananadance: :pine:
Jeanne I am giving all kinds of hints that I want a Bread Machine for Christmas. Not that i think I will really get one but I sure do want one. I've made two loaves of banana Bread to give as gifts , they are in the freezer and I think I need to make 4 more before Christmas, we might even get to keep one. I made a Triple Chocolate Fudge cake this afternoon with Chocolate Fudge frosting.
We went to the Senior free movie this morning it was Tower Heist and pretty funny, lots of good actors there was some language in reference to body parts but nothing real bad..
Marilyn, is one of those loaves of banana bread for me? :D
Send me your address and I will mail one to you. Jeanne
See, it's this wonderful spirit of loving and caring that make each of you so dear to me.
Gord, may God bless you as you minister through Promisekeepers. This is a wonderful organization.
And, a friend of mine is now a Christian because of Teen Challenge. That's another organization that needs our support and prayers.
It was SO good to see my dear friend who now lives with her daughter in Florida. They came to our Bible study tonight while they were in town, and it was GREAT to see them both.
Time to rest - my eyelids are about to close. ;)
'Nite, all,
Ruth Ann
Hi everyone. We enjoyed a nice soaking rain last evening. There were storm warnings out in various parts of the state but haven't heard any reports of damage more than a tree down. Today is suppose to be partly cloudy. We had a good choir practice last evening as we worked on our Christmas Cantata. Our director has been with us for over 10 years and this is about the only time she ever asked us to stay a few minutes longer so we could complete singing all the way through the Cantata. Now we will be polishing it for performance in the next two weeks and the final Saturday rehearsal. Today the main activity is to drive to Atlanta and pick up Stacey so she can be with us for Thanksgiving. I plan on taking her back home on Friday morning. I will also see what I can do to help Pat in her preparations for tomorrow.
Marilyn, my wife sometimes makes banana break but hasn't for a long time as I keep eating the bananas before they are ready to be made into bread. Hope you get the bread machine as expect you would use it. We have one but it seldom gets used as Pat isn't up to doing much baking. She is already suffering with her knee from the couple of things as has prepared in advance for tomorrow's dinner and know by the time it is over she will be exhausted.
Ruth Ann, a number of months ago I met a young man at Dunkin' Donut who was in the ministry with Christian athletes and worked only in one of the high schools. I was really shocked that the schools still allow this type of thing. I told him that I really admired what he was doing.
No, no, Marilyn! You have to bring it to me in person and then we can sit down and share it with a cup of tea or coffee! And lots of talk, talk, talk! ;D
Sounds good to me Jeanne.
I put up my little Christmas tree today after vacuuming the living and family rooms. Busy busy, as usual.
We still have to make a trip to Walmart to get a few last minute things that Keith wants, I thought I had everything but I forgot the cranberries.
Cranberries are on sale at Aldi's this week, so I'll be going there Friday to stock my freezer.
Well, not a lot of news - I may try to return later today.
God bless you all,
Ruth Ann

Last evening I turned on the local news on TV. First thing I saw was Charlene's, my DIL, mother, Charlotte. Charlotte went to Kohl's Monday. She got out of the car and before she got in the building, she was mugged. A young man knocked her down, kicked her in her ribs, hit her in the face, broke her glasses, stole her purse and ran away to a waiting vehicle. A man chased the thief but couldn't catch him. Two ladies helped Charlotte and called 9-1-1. Seems before she got her credit cards called, the thief had already went to The Finish Line and Best Buy and charged over $1000 on her credit card...then threw her purse in the bushes. I don't know if anything was missing other than $50 cash or not! On TV Charlotte was telling how she was carrying her purse but when the guy knocked her down, she stopped her fall with her hands and the purse flew off. So then the police were telling people how to protect themselves during this season of shopping.
Charlene sent me a picture of her Mom with her black eye. She has implants but the eye doctor said her eye is okay. What a mess!
Today I have been to Ivalou's to help her clean her house for tomorrow. I used the feather duster and dusted everything. I don't know why. You couldn't have written your name or date in the dust before hand. But it is done. Mom always said it was okay to write your name in the dust but don't date it because then she would know how long it was since she dusted. Mom was a jokester! She kept a nice house!
I would love to have a bread machine but don't give me one! I would bake bread every day! I love hot out of the oven bread!!
Now I am home and ready to find something to eat for a late lunch! {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}}

All this talk about bread reminds me to tell you that we are really enjoying good European bread, crusty and chewy! The chef on this ship is really good, and the food is served so beautifully. I'm sure we are gaining weight in spite of lots of walking in the cold, brisk air!
Today we visited Marksburg Castle. It is the only one that was never taken. Very interesting, as they have the furniture and everything there, including lots of armor and a real torture chamber! Shudder!! We really enjoyed it, but Darrel says it sure took away his desire to live in a castle! ;D This afternoon we sailed down the stretch of the Rhine River where so many castles are located. I sat up on deck, outdoors, with friends until it got too dark to see. And the temp is in the 40s and very damp. But I borrowed Darrel's coat (warmer than mine!) and took a heavy blanket to sit on and wrap around my legs. Wonderful day!! Our beautiful trip is drawing to a close and soon we will be heading back home. I wonder if my new kitchen will be done? I must admit, I haven't been thinking about that very much!
And.....today was the first day we have had internet connection for a couple days, and I got some cover design ideas from the cover designer!! Both are good, now I must pray and decide which to choose and suggest small changes if I want. Exciting!! Several people have heard me mention writing a book and are full of questions, and several hav e already given me their emails to send them a book---some have even paid me, and I don't yet know the price! They added quite a generous amount for the shipping, too! So that is encouraging!
Sorry I didn't address each of you, I have read your interesting posts and love you all, but time is limited before we get too far from a tower to have service. And I am chilled and want to take a hot shower and go to bed. Another fun and exciting day tomorrow!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Hi, friends, just checking in for a moment as I'm heading out again.
Today's been a good day and all is well right now.
Love to everyone,
Ruth Ann
Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving
:) Well from Canada. Want to say a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all that read this post and hope you all have a wonderful day. Don't eat to much stuffing and turkey.
Janet: It sounds like you have had a wonderful holiday and I hope that you enjoy the last few days and may the Lord give you a safe trip home. :)
Larry; It is so nice that you are able to bring up your daughter for thanksgiving I do hope that she enjoys herself. How is your son doing I hope that he is getting stronger. Have a great day and the Lords blessing upon you and Pat.
May the Lord be with all the rest of C.P. ERS and have a wonderful thanksgiving. :)
Gordon and Noreen :cp: :bananadance: :pine:
I saw a message on a church sign that really made me think:
There are 86,400 seconds in a day. Take a second to be thankful today.
Love y'all,
Ruth Ann
I am taking a moment to thank God for life, health, strength, family, friends, love, and most of all for Jesus who died that I might live.
Blessings to each of you on this most neglected of American holidays. May we all come to realize how important Thanks Giving really is.....and do more of it!
We just docked in Speyer and are getting ready for a walk around the town with our program director Johannes. We call him, jokingly and lovingly....Yo Highness! He's a great young fellow with a terrific sense of humor.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE. I feel so grateful that God has blessed my family in so many ways and brings us through the trials that life sometimes offers us.
The preparations for our big day are underway (and have been for a couple of days). In about 30 minutes or so I will leave to pick up the smoked turkey from the caterer. I think we are using buffet style dining as it seems to be easier for everyone. Our son called earlier this morning saying they were running a little behind the schedule they had set for themselves but will be on the road shortly. They have a 90 to 120 minute drive to get here from North Augusta, SC. They will be driving back later this afternoon.
Earlier this week someone gave me a little bag of goodies and on it was attached an explanation for each of the items in the bag. I thought it was very nice and wanted to share it with all of my friends this Thanksgiving Day.
Blessing Mix
BUGLES are a symbol of the Cornucopia, a horn of plenty.
PRETZELS represent arms folded in prayer.
CANDY CORN reminds us that during the first winter, the pilgrims were allowed only five kernels of corn per day because food was so scarce.
PEANUTS represent seeds, the potential of the bounteous harvest for the next season if they are planted and well-tended.
FRUIT is a reminder that Thanksgiving is the celebration of the harvest and the sweetness of God's love for us.
Etta Sue, what a terrible thing to have happen anytime of the year but especially at Thanksgiving. Glad to hear the ladies eyes were not damaged as the black eye will go away but the fear will probably remain with her the rest of her life. I guess we are vulnerable all of the time and don't realize it.
Janet, they sure know how to make bread. I love good crusty bread. It is interesting that when we are away and can't see the problems we worry so little about them. The Serenity Prayer is so appropriate to every situation.
Gord, our son has gone back to work and is feeling much better. We will be seeing him sometime this morning.

Of all things to happen, Ivalou's fridge died! Jo, her daughter, got here and started to put something in the freezer. She noticed black on the inside on everything. Everything was still froze but it was thawing. So they took everything to Kaye Don and Barb's house since they aren't home and their freezer was about empty.
Then Kara was in the kitchen and said, 'uh, this refrigerator is making a funny noise'. So it seemed the motor was making a grinding noise. So Jo unplugged the fridge and off again to Kaye Don's to put everything in their fridge!
Ivalou called and asked if I could bring ice. I thought she meant today. But pretty soon, my doorbell rang and it was Jo with a container to put some ice in! Dumb me! They were having pizza and needed ice for tea last night! But I will take ice today, too!
They had already called Lowe's to see if they could have a fridge delivered last night but NO! So Jo said they may be out tonight at midnight to purchase a refrigerator so it can be delivered tomorrow before Jo goes back home!
This bad refrigerator is less than 10 years old...she got it since I moved up here. And she had a hard time finding one this short so it would fit under her cabinets! Pray that she finds a fridge that fits!
It is gloomy out today in Indiana. No rain but no sunshine either.
Must get busy so I can start my macaroni and cheese soon! (https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FAnis%2FHappyThanksgiving.gif&hash=60837eaa3eaa7a585338837f4dd7de8f4c4b3c8a)
My goodness, I'm really remiss in adding my thanksgivings today. Most of all, I'm thankful for God's love and mercy, and for the privilege of believing on the Lord Jesus Christ who died for me.
Nexyt comes family and friends, and not too far behind is health and home and water and food and ... oh, so many more!
May God's love reach out, overshadowing us when trials and temptations beat upon our heads like the burning sun at noontime, and for the warmth He provides through His loving Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
Love to all,
Ruth Ann
Today and every day I am thankful for my Salvation, for the forgiveness of my sins and for Jesus laying down his life for me. I am also thankful for my family, for Keith and my life here in Oregon. I am very thankful that I am in contact with two more of my sons and will be visiting one of them next summer when I take my train trip to Stockton California.
Hi everyone. Am sitting here watching Jeopardy so thought I would catch up on the Discussion. We had a very nice day with the kids. Our son and DIL were here about 3 hours and we enjoyed a nice lunch and a lot of visiting. They had to leave around 3 pm as they wanted to get home before dark. Our daughter is spending another night. As soon as they left everyone laid down and both Pat and I took a nice nap as were pretty exhausted. In the morning I will take Stacey back to her apartment after I get back from coffee.
Etta Sue, what a terrible time for a refrigerator to fail. It was fortunate that there was a nearby refrigerator that could be put to use until Ivalou can get a new one.
Ruth Ann, that was a very nice message you posted.
Marilyn, I am happy for you in being able to reestablish a relationship with two more of your sons. That is indeed something to be very thankful for today and everyday.
:) It is late but I just wanted to share that Last night that was Wednesday I went to our small group and it was great to see two new people out andthat they want to meet others that go to our church and to share.
Then I had to leave early to go where at least 50 to 65 or more ladies were playing cribbage and had collected food for the mission that I volunteer at. I was introduced by there chairman and asked to give a short word about the mission so this was an opportunity to witness for the Lord and also invite them to be volunteers also. It always amazes me how the Lord gives us these times to witness for him.
May the Lord speak to the ladies that they are needed to things like this. I do hope that you all had a wonderful thanksgiving and are all fed up. God bless and have a great day today. :coffee: Good night or good morning. Gordon and Noreen :angel2: :cp: :rocker: :bananadance: :pine:
Just a quick note to say that this morning we woke up in France! Strasbourg, to be exact. I just got back to the ship from a walking tour and canal tour on a covered boat, as it is very cold here.
And it is lunch time, so must run. More later!
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FAnis%2FBeautifulBloomingRose.gif&hash=e75cc3530ccd8361da9aa01115af9c64e8f3e214)
I am thankful for God in my life. I am thankful for family and friends...even friends who wake up in France. I am thankful for our health and for the foods we eat. I am thankful for our homes, our cars and all of our possessions. I am thankful for our safe travels away from home and for our monies for our needs and some wants. I am thankful for our pets. I am thankful for all our churches. I am too blessed. I don't deserve it. God is good.
Today promises to be a beautiful day. The sun is coming up bright showing long shadows in my yard. I imagine Ivalou, Jo and Adrian will be going to find a new refrigerator. I plan to go to the pool, go to some drug stores to see if they have eye liner pencils that Lapel doesn't carry anymore and stop at the hospital to see if a classmate is still there. And maybe stop somewhere for a bite to eat before coming home.
Last night was one of 'those' nights, so I feel a nap coming on! "++""++""++""++""++""++""++""++""++""++""++""++""++"

We had a thankful Thanksgiving meal and weather was so perfect that we moved the feast outdoors. Not a bit of wind either. 3/4 of the of family met with the oldest son & family in Texas & they will visit with two of our nieces (his cousins) tonight & drive back tomorrow. I found out (after many years) that our SIL doesn't care for the celery in the dressing I make so I made a special side for him sans celery and forgot to put that in the oven.
Betty: It really is a small world.
Larry: Pecans are about $11 per # here and I am using walnuts - no pecan pie this year. Enjoy your visit with your son!
Ruth: Friends like you have are so special.
Etta Sue: Instant coffee is a last resort and it is better than years ago.
Gord: Pancreatic cancer is still bad. Don's mother died at age 49 after less than a year. Sad to say, I did not meet his parents. My sympathy to you losing your friend. One cousin used to go to Promise Keepers but I sure have not heard much lately. It was huge in Colorado once.
Marilyn: Try looking at thrift stores for a good brand machine - you have to use a recipe just for the machine.
Janet: We like Strausborg and wish we had booked more than one day.
Don may go and buy an eReader today as he sent back the one that does not work with library books. I am going to set up some dish towels so they can be embroidered - this is something I can carry easily around and stitch. Need to buy some stronger reading glasses too.
Carol is west bend a good brand Some one is giving me on they don't want anymore
Marilyn, make sure you get the recipe book that goes with that West Bend machine. It will explain the method of adding ingredients and the various choices for bread and crust type, as well as some specific recipes. Once you learn the proper method you can often adapt other bread types.
Marilyn: West Bend should be a decent brand. Look at the capacity first and foremost, you can look up on the internet for the model number & brand & that should tell you specifics. The internet is filled with bread recipes - remember to have things at room temperature or nearly when you begin - I mean water, or milk & eggs for sure. Use bread flour instead of regular flour unless they say reg. flour. Put ingredients in order of mfg. - mine are all the liquids first and then the flour & last the yeast. You will do fine.
We are waiting for a neighbor to come & have her phone set up. She forgot to stop the day before Thanksgiving & we waited until we finally had to leave to beat traffic. She is under a lot of stress these days.
Thank you Jeanne and carol. I wasn't sure about the room temperature for everything, I kinda figured the yeast and liquids. She has the original book that came with the machine I made sure of that before I accepted that she would be giving me the machine. I knew about putting things in the correct order, I have a Breadman book and have been checking that out to see how those were made.
This afternoon I had a lovely trip to the Black Forest, and had black forest cake at a mountain top resort hotel...YUM! I am going to have to really cut down on the eating when I get home!!
For dinner tonight we had roast duck! And it was good. Of course, every lunch and dinner they serve very fancy desserts, they look so pretty you don't want to resist them!
And it's time for the evening entertainment, so must run again........
Hi, friends,
It's great to hear from each one of you. And may our Lord send His blessings individually to those who read and don't post as well as to those who come regularly.
Today's a really quiet day for me. I may be catching the sniffles - lots of sneezing today.
So, here's lots of love and care and prayers for each of you.
Ruth Ann
:) Good evening to all. Today has been a steady day as we went for a doctors app. then to go to my daughters to look after the grand kids as she is getting close to her last big exam for her B.A. and we are so pleased that she has finally got this far as with two kids it is very hard. Then I went home and the young man from my church that helps me around the house came and helped me finish doing the Christmas lights then started to get the garage cleaned up so that I can get my van in for the winter. Then we brought in the Christmas tree and got it together and got most all of the lights working. It is so wonderful to have a young man so willing to help and that he loves the Lord..
Etta Sue: Thanks for what you put in your post and I almost gave you a call to say how much that I appreciated it. May the Lord richly bless you.
Carol: Thanks for your encouragement and I am so sad to here that you do not here about Promise Keepers as we had such a wonderful experience last week and to see 400 men come forward at the invitation what a thrill.
Pat and Paul : Where are you we miss you both stop hiding we need to here from you both Love ya SIS.
Well must go for now God's richest blessings and have a wonderful weekend. Gordon and Noreen :cp: :bananadance: :pine:
Today has been a "stupid" evening for me., I left home and realized Kassie didn't have her Cadet Toque. Turned around only to realize I left the house key on the hook by the door!
I picked up Kassie and she wanted to drive. When we got to our destination, downtown North Bay, I asked for the keys and put them safely in the pocket of the lovely coat Pat gave me. I reached over and locked the drivers door, rear left passenger door, got out and locked both right hand doors. As I slammed the back door I thought "Now the keys are in my pocket right." I felt for them and they were gone. Two hours later, after 3 people tried to unlock the door with a coat hanger, a friend of Heather's came and in 10 second was in the car. Why didn't I call for him first? Two hours and 20 dollars later, all plans changed and we headed home.
Oh well had a good visit with some of the cadets Kass is involved with and that was nice!
Hello, everyone.
Marilyn, I hope you enjoy the bread machine, and find a good recipe or two that you like.
I recently got one of the new mini machines, it makes a 1# loaf. My old one was larger and was 25 years old, it still worked but I wanted a small machine now. I was going to give my old one away on Free Cycle, but the lady who wanted it never would come to get it so I gave it to my step-daughter when she came to visit recently, from Dallas.
I use all purpose flour for all recipes, and it works fine for me. My favorite recipe is for the Rapid Rise yeast, and is to be used on the Fast Baking cycle. It is so tasty! A little like sour dough bread. I never did use the Rapid cycle on the old Zojirushi machine. I got another Zo because I like it that much.
I notice that some of you have been having coffee maker troubles. With us it is toasters. They just do not last very long at all. Oh well, at least it is not the refrigerator. I hope Ivalou was able to find one short enough. Her old one sure did not last very long. Ours is getting old now, but it still runs fine. Our upright freezer is really old. I still have the sales receipt -don't ask why, I don't know why! :-) Anyway, we bought it April 29, 1959. That must be some sort of a record, it still runs like new.
Earl is weaker. Sometimes I have to help him get out of bed, or out of a chair. It is like lifting a dead weight, really hard to do. I think I strained my right knee replacement about a week ago, lifting him. It has been giving me a lot of pain since then. Not constant, but still there. I should have called for help from Hospice care but it was near midnight and I hated to do that so late. He is usually in bed asleep before then but he stayed up late that night. I always stay up late, it is almost 12:30 now. I can't sleep all night, so I would rather sleep the second half.
The replacement is almost 17 years old, and they do not last forever. I heard that the average is 15 years. Actually this is my second replacement on that knee, the first one was only 13 months old, but I got a bad job that time. I went to Lubbock for the second surgery. Actually third surgery, I had arthroscopic surgery 3 months before the first replacement. My other knee is still good, thank the Lord!
Good night all.
Blessings, Janice
Hi everyone. It looks like we will have one more nice day before the weather turns much colder and we get the possibility of a few snow flurries tomorrow and rain as well. We sure had nice weather for Thanksgiving. Other than to take Stacey home yesterday, which took all morning as I spend sometime working on her computer, which is running slower than molasses and still needing a lot more work, it was a quiet day. I will bring her computer out in a couple of weeks and see what I can do to restore the Windows 7 files and speed it up where it should be. Today is the normal Saturday. I will be watching a lot of football this afternoon and evening.
Gord, your mission work sounds very rewarding. You are involved in so many interesting things.
Janet, the cold weather will have you prepared for the weather when you get home. Hope you are getting a lot of pictures of those desserts and also of the places you are visiting. :)
Carol, the Promise Keepers organization seems to have fallen off the map. I haven't heard anything about it either for a long time.
Judy, one word comes to mind after reading of your experience: FRUSTRATION. Glad you finally got into the car.
Janice, I certainly hope you don't wreck your own health in trying to care for Earl. Please ask for the help when you need it.
Janice, I think so often of you and the difficulties y'all are going through. Possibly Hospice could lend you a Hoya lift to help you lift your hubby. It certainly is a help.
Thanks for telling about your experiences with your replaced knee. I'm certainly grateful for my 3 year old one, and hope it outlasts me! :)
Judy, I've had those types of days - they're absolutely NOT fun.
It's also interesting to read about the bread making machines. I don't suppose I'll ever get one, but the idea of making one's own bread certainly is appealing.
Larry, sometimes these computers really give us "fits," don't they.
Y'all have a good day with our Lord.
Ruth Ann

JudyB ~ Did you find your car keys? Were they right where you put them? Did you miss your pocket?
Janet ~ It sounds like you are having Thanksgiving dinners every day while on your cruise! You sure don't go hungry on a cruise unless you are very picky eater!
Janice ~ I checked out your mini bread maker. Now I could go for a one-pound loaf maker! I located two places where they are sold near me. Just might be an after Christmas present to me!
Gord ~ I doubt if I do much or any Christmas decorating this year. I seldom have company so no one would see it but me. If I can find some big red plastic bows, I like to put them on the deck outside. The ones I have have faded to a pink!
Carol ~ I can't imagine eating outside in Denver for Thanksgiving. Or eating outside here for Thanksgiving. It was a nice day here but a little on the cool side.
Let me tell you a funny.....Ivalou has a three year old g-daughter. She is a no-doubt-about-it red head! She asked Grandma Sisson if she could play the piano. She would 'play', jump down, do something else and come back and 'play' some more. Eventually she got rough...banging the keys hard. Mommy says 'Kailin! Don't do that! You will break Grandma's piano!' She grabbed Kailin to get her to stop. Kailin squirmed and said 'I'm a mess! Put me to bed. I want a nap!' Crystal took her to the bedroom and in a matter of a few minutes, Kailin was sound asleep!
Then yesterday...I was at Ivalou's. Jo and her grandson, Adrian, 4 years old was getting ready to go back to Ohio. I said I was going to get the mail and would bring back Ivalou's. Adrian went with me and said, 'I will take Grandma Sisson's to her.' So he took off running back to the house with her mail. He went in the house and came right back out. I was almost to my house and he yelled, 'Wait! Wait! I need to give you a hug!' Well, of course, I waited and got my big hug from Adrian! My heart smiled!
I see Ivalou is getting her new refrigerator. I need to get caught up here, eat a bite and go help her get her food from Kaye Don's house! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Etta Sue They fell out of my pocket as I leaned over to lock the drivers door. :idiot:
Oh Judy what a day for you.
today we will watch the football game and probably do nothing else. The boys will probably come by on their way back to Portland. Corey stayed here last night.
Judy, I can just imagine how frustrating that might have been when you "lost" your keys. I remember a time when my husband and I went to Lake Louise, and he got out of the van first, went to the back to get something, and closed the back door as I locked and closed the door - and we both realized our only set of keys were still in our van. We had to wait almost 2 hours for CAA to come and help us out. It shortened our visit at Lake Louise, but didn't ruin our holiday. I'm so glad when we go through issues like that, that we are not alone. We have the Lord to help us through them.
I'm praying for everyone as I get to learn more about you. I know that the Lord helps each of us.
:) Good afternoon to all. It is a very dull day here and the temperature is not to bad so that is nice. I don't know if I told you all that I went out and bought my self a new snow blower as the one that I had would not keep running but it did not owe me any money and it is very old. So Sears had a fantastic sale on and that is where I purchased it. So I put the old one on Kijiji and I sold it today so now I just hope and pray that we don't get a big snow storm till I get my new one. :coffee:
Betty: That is a nice area that you live in. Is that where there is a Christian camp for girls as my wife and I have friends who are involved with one.
Larry. Sounds like you had a wonderful thanksgiving and it must have been good to see your son and to see that he is able to be at work again. Thank the Lord for prayer. :)
Has there been any reports on Al how is his health.. Wellhave a great day and God Bless. Gordon. :cp: :bananadance: :pine:
Gord: I'm in Haliburton area in Ontario - is that where you are thinking the camp is? We do have several Christian camps around this area. My husband and I worked at one for about 3 years when we first moved here.
We watched a 4-point buck meander around in back yesterday. My pictures are not good at all as he was the same color as all of nature.
Etta Sue: This morning the temperature was almost into the teens. Clear and frigid. The mountains are getting the snow.
Betty: Lake Louise is just an amazingly beautiful place to visit.
:) Etta Sue. My niece is married to a Sisson and they live in Ontario I wonder if they may be related.
Betty: I believe the camp is called Camp Medeba and I can't remember where it is as it is so long ago. By the way where are you from before you got married I used to go to Peoples Church in Toronto on Sheppard ave.
Have a good night to all. :cp: :bananadance: :pine: :rocker:
Gord: Believe it or not, my husband and I worked at Camp Medeba for a few years - not a girls' camp though - both boys and girls :) Now we live on the same lake, in the same area. I was in Burk's Falls before I was married. I have been to People's Church, but only once or twice.
Carol: I agree. Lake Louise is gorgeous. I really enjoy the mountains. But ... I really like our lakes, and hills, and bush, etc. here too. :)
Have a good night everyone.
Our Ducks won the game 49-21. We finished off out leftover turkey for supper tonight so tomorrow it will be back to eating chicken. I am getting so tired of chicken and trying to find new ways to prepare it. I have been pretty creative with my cooking lately. I sure can't wait to cook my first loaf of bread in my bread machine. I have been reading the instructions and going over them real well so I don't make any mistakes nd wreck my machine.
: :) Betty when you worked at the camp did you know a girl called Kathleen who worked at the camp but I think she was a camper also a long time ago. She is now married to a John Steadman and I think they still have something to do with it.
This talk about bread being made in these bread machines is making me hungry my wife's father bought us one a long time ago and my wife did use it a lot when we first got it but has not for a long time but there is nothing like the smell of fresh bread in the house. Well must get my med's and try to go to bed soon. again God bless to all. Gordon and Noreen. :bananadance: :cp: :nanadance:
Good morning from Switzerland! This is the last of the six countries visited on this trip. We have a tour coming up in a few minutes' time, so this will be short. They have already warned us that everything here is expensive, so probably will not be buying much (haven't anyway, in the other places, as we already have too much 'stuff' at home!) Another country famous for its chocolate, so might have to try that, at least!
Tomorrow we bid farewell to the SS River Rhapsody and some of the new friends we have made. 25 of us will stay in Lucerne for 4 days, then head home. We go home on Dec. 2, will get there late in the evening or night. We are aware there is a problem at the London airport, so may be routed another way going home. Our tour director will take care of that, so no worries!
Have a wonderful day, wherever you are!

My Christmas Cards are printed, put in envelopes with names on the outside. I have very few that I mail...most are taken to church or handed to family members.
I have an HP printer. It was doing fine but low on ink. I had bought ink at Office Depot not knowing it was refilled cartridges!! I put black in...ran the alignment...then started printing. Black was everywhere on the card. I replaced black with another Office Depot Black. Says 'damaged cartridge'. So I am taking them back.
In the meantime, I have the Epsom printer that Kitty gave me. After running the head cleaner several times, it printed fine. So I finished the cards.
I made one calender and ran out of Card Stock. So I am off to Walmart today perhaps to get Card Stock and HP ink!
Ivalou got her new fridge but wasn't to put anything in it until 6-8 hours lapsed. So today we will get her stuff from Kaye Don's fridge. Ivalou was also told to NOT eat what was in the freezer even if she can wash off the black and smell. Glad of that!
I am ready for church.SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE

Hi everyone. We have another warm morning but are being prepared by the weatherman to expect much colder temps, with the possibility of some snow flurries, and quite a bit of rain later today and tomorrow. Today we will attend church and probably eat out. Nothing else on the schedule.
Ruth Ann, you are right about the computers. I will probably apply the procedures to put the Windows files back in factory condition if some other maintenance procedures don't really speed up the computer.
Etta Sue, it wouldn't do for me to have Pat make homemade bread as I dearly enjoy it and don't know when to stop eating it. We have started using the sandwich rounds now rather than loaf bread for sandwiches and really enjoy them. Are you getting a lot of rain today? The weather map sure looks like you all might be getting some heavy rain. Sounds like Kallin is a smart little girl with a mind of her own.
Betty, glad the locking of your keys in your car didn't ruin your vacation day.
Marilyn, glad your team won yesterday. I have a friend who is from Oregon and is most interested in Oregon. I watch Georgia beat Georgia Tech yesterday afternoon. That is a traditional rivalry and Georgia Tech has lost nine of the last ten meeting.
Gord, good for you in getting a new snow blower. I expect it gets good use up your way. Fortunately there is no market for them in my area. :)
Carol, on occasion we have seen deer and deer tracks in our back yard. One Christmas eve I was returning home and a couple of deer were out on our street.
Janet, I know you hate to see your trip winding down but it sounds like you have some wonderful memories. Enjoy the chocolate. I hadn't heard of the problem at the London airport.
:) Well my wife and I are about to leave for church. Then we have to leave early from church as the choir that I sing in has its last performance for this year and it is about a two hour drive to one of our bridesmaids house and she is having us for lunch then I will continue to practice and they will come for the performance so it will be a busy day and a long day but God is so good and serving him in this choir is so good.
Have a great day. Gordon and Noreen :) :cp: :bananadance: :pine: :rocker:
I am a mess this morning from a terrible lack of sleep and now a birthday party this afternoon for a quilting friend (expert & writer of books) who is 80 years young today.
News on Al continues at a good pace. Rehab should speed up the healing. It does sound like he is getting good care.
Grandson has a letter jacket now with band and swimming on it. He could have had tennis as well but dropped that sport.
Our cell phone and home phone are not working. We hear the ringing and no one is there.
Time to start a new week. Click Here (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=12041.0) to find our new place.
