Morning Devotional...
October 23, 2011

Day of the Cross: God Provides Redemption

In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:14

Some theologians limit the purpose of Christ's death on the cross to being an example of sacrificial love, an illustration of His words in John 15:13: "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." Jesus proved that such costly love was possible when He illustrated it by His own sacrificial action.

Jesus certainly was an example of love and other godly attributes as well--imitated by the apostles (1 Corinthians 11:1). But something more profound than an example happened on the cross: Jesus Christ paid a ransom price to redeem mankind out of the marketplace of slavery to sin (Galatians 3:13; 1 Timothy 2:6). The most important transaction in history took place: Jesus exchanged His innocent life for our sin-stained life, dying the death we deserved that we might, by God's mercy, be spared the judgment we richly deserved. Because God was pleased with Christ in every way, the Cross turned away the wrath of God (Romans 5:9).

Take a moment today to thank God for the Day of the Cross and your redemption from sin.

The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ.
C. H. Spurgeon

I found this a very moving hymn to listen to this evening:

That is indeed very beautiful, Pat.  Thank you!  Not only so, but the One Who hears His people's prayers is listening!  He wills to use His people's prayers to accomplish His will.

Prayer is of NO value in itself, but it takes on the value of Christ's Blood when we pray even our simple prayers!

Sometimes we get so "down" and the tears seem to flow for no reason but we can listen to that hymn, especially that version above, and know that somewhere, someone is praying for us.

I so appreciated listening to it this evening.

I've known that song for years, but had not ever heard it online. Thank you so much, Pat, for sharing this blessing with us. Yes, each time I feel I can't go any further, I remember that our Lord Himself sits at the right hand of the Father praying for us. Ohhh, how that helps!

Beautiful, Pat!  And I was really glad they had the words at the bottom!  ;)

How was Paul's birthday celebration?

I posted this morning, jiust before the door slammed shut.  Oh, well, it wasn't important, just chatter.

I finally found my boxes with my glass collection, pretty, bright things I set in the living room window.  I'd been looking for them for over two weeks!  Now they will be there to sparkle in the sun in the morning!

I rested this afternoon, and even watched a good movie on DVD.  That's a big change for me!  :)

Please forgive me for not replying sooner.  Friday, Oct 21st, was my 75th Birthday and I must report that Pat pulled off a total surprise for me. You see, I only thought that my son and his wife and 7 children were coming. However, when nine folks form the church started showing up, I realized what was really happening. Then came a knock on the door, and Don Reid from "Seniors and Friends" showed up all the way from London Ontario Canada. Pat was even more suprised than I was at Don's arrival, and I wish you could have seen her face and reaction of almost total unbelief!!

Pat had arranged for cards to be sent to Peggie's house and she brought a pile of cards about 4 inches high for me to open. When we got settled, the 4 older grand children opened the cards and read them for every one and also read from the Bible the enclosed Bible verses everyone was encouraged to include. After each card was read we sang a favorite Hymn from the dozen or more Hymn books someone had broght along. We had to  end the party around 10:30PM after it took me four breaths to blow out all 75 candles (I guess I lost my wish?). Then after that, all had ice cream and cake!!!

WOW - - -  What a night which I will never forget!    And Thanks Pat and Peggy, and every one else involved!

Also many thanks for all your Birthday greetings and graphics here on Christian Photographers.

Hi everyone.  A very nice Sunday yesterday weather wise and activity wise.  After church we stopped to have a bite of lunch then came home and rested.  At 4 pm we went back to the church for a special meeting that our ministers had called to explain where we are on some contentious church issues.  When we got home we watched a movie, that wasn't very good, and I was so tired I went to bed very early.  Today will be busy also as want to visit a friend who is going into dementia and then have the Monday men's luncheon and then there is a meeting this evening.

Marilyn, your neighbors were fortunate that the fire wasn't worse than just a refrigerator.

Janet, we could loan you some unused seats in our church.  Our church denomination is going through some very tough issues right now and we are losing a lot of members.  Wonderful that your church is growing.

Jeanne, thanks for the devotional for this new week.

Paul, glad you were surprised at the birthday party Pat had planned for you.  Just glad she invited us to be a part of it in a very small way.

I feel almost as blue as this type today.  And the one and only reason is lack of sleep.  My "J'" night consisted of hours and hours of tossing and turning, getting up twice to read a while in hopes of getting sleepy enough to drop off, then finally a nap of about an hour when it was time to get up this morning.  Oh, my.....Well, I will survive, and hope for a nap this afternoon as I have someplace to go tonight.

Carpenter called and says it will be another day before he gets back out here.  I want to do some touch-up painting in the bedroom.  I have decided not to get upset or anxious over the job--it will get done when it gets done, and fretting won't make it happen sooner.  He is working on the cabinets for laundry and bath now, then the kitchen will be last.

I need to attempt to do some things, even though I don't feel like it.  Happy Monday, and see you later./color]

I seldom get down in the dumps but I am there now.  I feel like I need to get away...anywhere!  Just go and not come back for a few days!  But where?  Do you ever wonder if you disappeared a few days that anyone would notice?  That's me right now.  Maybe I should just hibernate a few days!  Not talk to anyone or see anyone.  Just me, myself and I.  I am all alone but I want it that way for a few days.  This sure isn't me.  I will get better.

It is gloomy today.  The sun was shining for a few minutes but it is gone once again.  It rained during the night but not since I got up.

Dear Janet and Etta Sue. It's a very dull and rainy day here, too.

I feel you both need big hugs and be quietly told you are loved!!  It's O.K. to want to be alone. May our Lord comfort you both.

I think everyone could use a group hug - sending a cyber hug to all.

Good aches from yesterday as I was able to work for almost 4 hours on packing boxes for the troops.  We each take a box and walk to tables piled high & stuff everything in that we choose.  Everyone gets one pair of white socks and I looked for crocs or flip flops, lotions, a book to read, foot powder, a game book, food like dried beef, cookies, toothpaste, brushes, and so many little things & finished off with hard candy to fill within a half inch at the top.  Then, they lay a signed camouflage scarf on top with news of the church &  a Christmas card.  First hour, I sorted magazines and books for female or male.  Luckily, I had just finished a book written by a local doctor who volunteered two tours in Iraq & I wish everyone could read about these brave souls who are wounded so severely and the people who care for them.  Am so impressed with our troops.  It helped me think of needful things.

Don drove to the VA (over half hour drive) and found that someone had not scheduled him for his blood draw.  Another mistake for Friday was averted when he went to check - we have to be there at 9:30 instead of 11 AM.  Thankful that we have this corrected.  I am cleaning & getting everything ready for tomorrow night when we hope a dozen show for quilt club.  Snow is coming & they may not want to drive at night.

Marilyn:  I do not care about CU - only root for the Broncos and the newest quarterback - an avowed Christian.  He is exciting & we are hopeful that  a good guy can get this team going.

Homeless sleeping in the Denver area are about 800, so they say.  Beds are for 200 and they have been squeezing in 300 top capacity.  Snowstorm and bitter cold are arriving.  The homeless are mixed in with the protestors - it really got my attention when the students so seriously said that all their loans should be forgiven.

Snow in Denver, Carol?  Oh, dear!

What wonderful boxes for the troops.  I know that they will be accepted well by the troops.  Great job you all were doing.

Carol, that is work I could join in doing, wholeheartedly!  I am a BIG supporter of our troops.  May God richly bless each of you who had a part in getting those boxes ready; from the planning to the buying, right on down to the mailing of them.  Good work!

I managed to get a nap this afternoon,  really in hopes I will sleep tonight.

:)  Hi to all and it has been a very busy past weekend as I was able to help my son with some of his moving to his new house.  He rented a u-haul and the truck was almost brand new which was great.  We loaded it three times and I helped unload two of the three as my back was getting to ache to much.  They are moving from a town house to a much larger place and they have an in ground pool and lots of garden space so they will be kept busy in the spring and summer.  I did not remember how tiring it is to do work like that.

Well it is getting late and I must get to sleep.  Gods richest blessing's upon you all.

:coffee: is brewing.  Come and share.  It is dark outside and I just love the peaceful beginning of a new day.

This church has a lot of activities and quite a few bible studies - my neighbor is in grief class and she says it has helped her a lot.  We were led to this area and led to this church.

Hi Pat!  What fun you must have had planning the surprise for Paul!  This is late for a snowfall - and not a big storm we think.

Hello Gord!  Moving is hard work, I hope you had a good sleep.

Janet:  You certainly have enough to do as it is right now.  When do you go on your trip?

Good Day to Ruth Ann!

What busy, busy people!  Carol filling boxes for the troops, Janet bringing her house back to normal and editing her book, Gord helping his son move...  You all make me feel almost lazy!!! :D

Looks like we can safely say that summer is over.   :(  We'll have day time temps only near 40 and we'll probably be down into the 20's several nights this week.  Rain expected Thursday and Friday with  possible "mixed precipitation" in the "higher elevations".

I am about to take my wife to Christian  Woman's meeting and she is on the board so she enjoys this very much.  Will drop by later hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless to all.   Gordon and Noreen. :cp:

Hi everyone,

Just back from coffee on a beautiful fall morning.  They say we will see it get to 75 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday turned out to be sort of a down day.  I did manage to go to my men's Monday luncheon but was terrible exhausted and missed an evening event I normally attend.  I went to bed about 8 last night after resting most of the afternoon and got up late this morning.  I fear today may be more of the same as am feeling weary.  I may go to a meeting at 11 this morning and that will be it for the day.  Our son had the tube removed from his back yesterday from his surgery and wasn't feeling very good yesterday afternoon.

I have read all of the postings but just don't have the energy to make individual comments this morning.

I am much better today.  Kitty called me and asked me to meet her at Subway.  I did.  She is such a great listener and really doesn't give advice...just says things that make you think different.

Then I was telling her that our church is stuffing shoe boxes for kids overseas.  And since it has been over 50 years since I have had a kid to buy for, would she go with me.  She did better than that.  We went next door to Dollar General.  She took one shoe box and stuffed it and I stuffed one.  We both chose little girls ages 6-9.  What fun picking out everything from hair brushes to a pink purse and socks to glitter makeup.  There were some things we could not put in...liquids, foods, even chocolate, medicines, etc.  It was fun.

Today is bright and sunny and suppose to get warmer today like Larry said in Georgia.  Today is SAMS so if it stays nice, I may mow when I get home since it is to rain again tomorrow!  The yard doesn't need mowed as much as the leaves need mulched!!

It's so nice to be able to read all your posts here in the Winchester house without going out to McDonald's or the Handy Mart!!!

Jeanne, you sure aren't lazy.  Not sure what I'd do without you on these sites getting rid of spammers and doing all the other things you do daily on both Seniors and Friends and here.  Thanks so much

Hi to Gord, Carol, Larry and Etta Sue too today.

We're just waiting for a phone call to see if we're going to visit Paul's brother and his wife.  She's under the weather and not feeling well.

Good morning!  The sun is shining brightly and temp supposed to get to high 70s today, so we are getting a reprieve from the cold.  The guys are back working on the house YES!!  and things are looking up!  I wasn't really having the blues the other day, just exhaused from lack of sleep.  I slept last night, so am up and at 'em this morning.  And that's a good thing because now they are tearing out the laundry room and adjoining bathroom.  We had unloaded all those cabinets earlier--but now he says he will be getting to the kitchen in about a week, so lots more stuff to move, for sure!

Gord, moving is about the hardest work one can do.  One thing worse is plumbing on an older house!  ;)  I LOVE Christian Women's club; but unfortunately, ours here no longer meets, guess you could say it folded up, and I miss it so much.  What a great time to get to know our sisters in Christ from other churches than the one we attend.

Etta Sue, Samaritan's Purse does such wonderful work.  My friend over at Dodge works with a group in Fowler all year long collecting stuff, and last year they packed over 5000 boxes, put them in a truck and drove them to the collection site in Denver!  Made lots of kids happy!  :)

Larry, prayers go up for you today.  I appreciate that you know your limits and take care of yourself.  We need you around here.

Hello, Jeanne!  About the time I hit post yesterday, I realized I had spelled your name Jeanie, which is how my sister's name is spelled.  Sorry.  And you do a lot around here, even if you didn't, we need your encouragement!  Bless you!

Carol, how I would love to drop by and have a cup of whatever and a little visit with you. You're always doing interesting stuff.

Hi, Judy!  Hi, Ruth Ann!  Hi, Pat!

Janet, I didn't even notice how you spelled my name.  It's usually pronounced Jeannie, so it makes sense to spell it that way.   ;)

Larry, I'm glad you recognize when you need to cut back on some of your activities.  Like Janet said, we need you around here.   ;)

Hi everyone. We went out for Mexican dinner last night in celebration of Keith receiving his first Social Security check. He  wasn't expecting it until next month so it was quite a surprise for him.

I was supposed to go tot he Senior Movie this morning  to see Dolphin Tale, but I had other things to do, bake a cake clean the kitchen floor and I didn't sleep well last night so decided it was best for me to stay home.

Pat I know you must be so happy to have internet at the Winchester house now. I can see the happiness in your words.

Jeanne it is getting cold here too it was 35° when I got up this morning to take Happy out to go potty at  4 am, he got me up twice to take him out. Ii am in the process of changing his food so I guess that is what got him up in the night. He usually doesn't get up at night.

Who knows, Pat...maybe I'll make it to Virginia sometime.

Well, my little Purple PT Cruiser (Josie) needs a "nose job" now. The sun was in my eyes, and all the traffic in the other lanes started moving - but unfortunately that Ford 250 truck ahead of me DIDN'T move! The wonderful news is that the patrolman and the "victim" were both as nice as could be, and the patrolman didn't even give me a ticket. No injuries to either of us, since it was such a low-speed bump.

It would be wonderful to have a means of getting together with some of our CP friends, but until we can manage to do so, it's certainly great to be with y'all each day online. :)

May our Lord bless and keep us every one. He knows our needs and grants His love and mercy to us every single day.

Much love to y'all,
Ruth Ann

Since Pat is the only CP member I have met, I really would love an opportunity to meet the rest of you.  All at once, or one at a time, either works for me!  And Pat, of course I want to see you again--you remember you promised to come to Kansas!  Lots of changes in your life since then, and I understand.

I went to the home and ate with (and fed) Beth at noon.  They were having their monthly barbecue, so lots of good food!  And I am going back in tonight to take her to the movie to see Dolphin Tale.  She loves all animal stories!  :)

More decisions to make--colors for kitchen, pulls for kitchen cabinets, counter top colors/materials, same for back splash...colors for laundry room....phew!   I just want so much not to make any choices I will regret.  I did make a couple in our bathroom, but it's still beautiful!

Now back to online shopping for cabinet pulls!

Our youngest son just accepted a job - amazing that he is still being paid by his ex company so that is a real blessing these days.

Jeanne:  I just fell asleep in the chair so I am not so "busy" all the time.  Quilters come tonight & chocolate cake is in the fridge.

Janet:  I was sure that you had met more CPer's.  Yes, it would be nice.  I live close to Jenny (DD) in other site.

Etta Sue:  How fun for you to fill the shoebox.  It is so nice to imagine their faces filled with happiness.

Pat:  Looked at your beautiful pictures & really like the yellow flower but Geordie wins my heart because I do love dogs.  We get to doggie sit in a few weeks.

Ruth Ann:  Oh, poor poor Purple PT!  Sorry - I hit a curb yesterday that shouldn't have been there--- it sounded like the bottom of the car was damaged.  Took a breath, prayed for help and my blessing was that everything looked just fine - so I didn't have to tell Don.    ::)  Well, some day.  The main thing is no one was injured and you are fine.  Hug

Larry:  You are so smart to listen to your body cues.  We all need to be more like you and really take the time to relax and rest.  This is a loud and crazy world out there - especially the roads.

Imagine the joys of being there - love and adoration of our Lord, then a big ole family reunion, and also another big ole family-of-God reunion!

And, no tears, no heartaches, no worries, no pain, no fender benders, only love, joy, peace, and endless worship. Ahhhh - sounds SOOOO wonderful.

Just a quick stop by this evening.  I wasn't up to getting out again today after coffee this morning.  I rested again this morning and then was up a couple of hours while the lady was here to work on the ice maker again as it was squealing at us when we tried to dispense ice.  She found ice had formed on the spindle that turns the dispenser that she hadn't noticed when she did the other repair.  It was a carryover from the other problem and hopefully the auger motor hasn't been hurt.  She got it dried out and it seems to be working fine.  Pat and I are watching a movie but will retire for the night when it ends before long.

Ruth Ann, sorry to read about your little accident.  Glad you didn't get a ticket to compound the situation and glad you weren't hurt.

Janet, nice to see you are feeling better today.  It sounds like things are advancing quickly around your home.  Hope you enjoyed the movie.

Carol, sure it gives you some peace of mind that your youngest son has a new job.

Hi to all I haven't commented to this evening.

A lot of us have burdens, family, health, perssonal, all sorts of burdens.   I remember Pat, our brother Murray, and a friend of the family singing this....

Do you bear a weight of sin
And you have no peace within,
And it seems like your life is but a loss?
You can find a sweet relief,
And a joy for every grief,
If you leave your heavy burden at the cross.

CHORUS
Leave your heavy burden at the cross,
And go free, O sinner go free;
Leave your heavy burden at the cross,
At the cross of Calvary.
Jesus is waiting now to welcome you there;
He wants to save you and to take all your care;
Leave your heavy burden at the cross,
And go free, O sinner go free.

Why then longer walk along,
Burdened down with sin and wrong,
When at Calvary you can be fully free.
There is still an open door,
Do not linger any more;
You can know a life of joy and victory.

That reminds me, I need to call my repair shop to see if the parts are in for Hawaii's nose job!  Sorry to hear that Ruth Ann's Josie has a booboo, too!

All the sources I have for weather reports today say raining or rain.  There isn't a cloud in the sky and it's bright and sunny.

I may go with Kitty to a classmates home.  Kitty is fixing a casserole for Judy.  She broker her tibia and cracked her fibula in a fall.  She is using a walker with no weight on her broken leg.

Then tonight is Crochet Angels.  I finished another scarf yesterday.  The finished bag is getting huge!

Not much news today.

Bible Study is cancelled - the roads don't look too bad - gosh, this would not keep my kids from going to work although daughter says they have at least 10 inches of snow at her house - she can work from home.

Only four women came to quilting and the rest were unsure of driving in the rain/snow last night.  I don't blame them.

Larry:  Yes, one concern down - a few more to go.  Friday morning we meet with Don's new doctor who has scheduled one hour for the consultation & just that fact it is an hour is another concern.  We have been sleeping though and just pray for acceptance.  I think it will be more tests.

The snow is beautiful, of course.  I am going to make a casserole of beef, potatoes and of all things, blue cheese for some zip.  This is a good day to sew because the room will be brighter with snow outside.

Hi everyone.  Another beautiful day here in Atlanta with clear skies and 77 degree temperature.  We did attend Bible study this morning and had coffee with the folks from the class at Dunkin' Donuts but didn't have lunch with them.  I have been resting all afternoon as want to attend choir practice this evening.  Still not totally recovered from this sense of weariness but think it is better as at least can keep my eye lids open.

Carol, I heard them say on the radio that you all have quite a bit of snow in the Denver area.  The one hour for the consultation might be an hour of your time and 10 minutes of his.  I always try to keep in mind that "it will be what it is" and not worry unduly in advance.

Judy, thanks for the song words.

Etta Sue, hope your car parts have come in.  If nothing else your class has gotten you back into the routine of doing that work.

These past two days have gone by in a blur!  Today, I added to the list we had been making for items from Home Depot and Walmart, and after consulting with our carpenter, we headed to Garden.  We were able to get nearly everything on both lists, only lacked the Melatonin for Beth.  But today I made decisions on countertop and back splash materials, got the hardware for the kitchen ordered, got bathroom and kitchen faucets, bought some new rugs and towels for the "new" bathroom and got a part that was missing from one of the new lights we bought earlier.

Between Home Depot and Walmart, we went to Applebee's for lunch, I had a nice salad and half a Reuben, Darrel had a nice steak.  All in all, a good, but expensive day.  But it's progress!

Dallas (carpenter's helper) got the laundry room and that bath ready for paint, primed both rooms and painted them one coat on eht walls and two on the ceilings!  We will get done someday!

Larry, sorry you're still feeling tired.  Hope your energy level gets higher soon; but keep taking care of you!

Carol, great news about your son's job!

The last two days are catching up with me and I am feeling really sleepy!  G'Night!

Back to say our temps went from near 90 yesterday to the 36 you see below!  But, it is almost November.

Hi everyone.  It will soon be time to leave for coffee and then about as soon as I get home we will head towards Atlanta with a stop about half way at a Kaiser facility for Pat to have a bone density test.  We will then so on to Stacey's apartment and leave some things, including some meals Pat has frozen for her and then we will eat at the Shepard's Center with her and visit for awhile.  That will be plenty for today.  A few days ago Pat was able to order and we have received some plastic freezable/microwaveable divided plates with covers so she has something to put leftovers in and put together some meals to freeze to take to Stacey when we go down to visit her.  I think we are to have one more good day before some cooler, rainier weather sets in.

I just got through talking to a man at the body shop.  I take Hawaii in early Monday morning.  He even said it might be done while I wait!  That would be good.  Then home and put her in the garage since that is Halloween!! Poor gal...hope she doesn't get hurt anymore!

Kitty and I went to a classmates home yesterday afternoon.  Kitty made a casserole and a pie for her and her husband.  Judy fell 'out' her back steps last Friday and broke her fibula and a hairline fracture of her tibia.  So far she is in a boot but not to put any weight on that side.  They will recheck next week to see if the bone is still in alignment or have to do surgery!  Then Kitty and I went to a new Mexican restaurant in Pendleton for chips and salsa.

Last night was Crochet Angels.  Only five of us this week.  Two women were on their second scarf!  The other two ripped out what they had and started again.  At least, they are getting practice and perhaps their finished project will not have scalloped edges.  But a person that doesn't know crochet will still love it no matter what it looks like.  I tend to be a perfectionist...when I leave mistakes, I have to point them out.  No one sees them but me.

Well, today is my second least favorite place to go...the Dentist.  First is a car garage for oil and lube or anything to do with a car!  It is a typical fall day.  Cold and raining.  There is only a couple a dozen leaves on my Maple tree out front.  Rain and wind today will probably make them fall.

Time to get ready for the dentist!

Hi, friends, it's chilly and rainy here in Nashville. A day to stay inside, but Josie still needs to have her nose job checkup, and then possibly a haircut for me and an oil change for Josie.

Judy, those words from the hymn really spoke to me.

I'm praying for a lady in our church today - she is undergoing a 12-hour brain tumor surgery today. Her name is Reba.

Love to everyone,
Ruth Ann

Snow, mixed with rain, is expected later today - anywhere from a dusting to two inches.  Right now it's chilly and raining and the temperature is dropping.

Sunday I was diagnosed with a UTI and the antibiotics seem to be working with that, but then on Tuesday I started with a sore throat and head cold.  Yesterday the sore throat was gone, but my head was, as my mother used to say, "full of pudding".  So I just went back to bed and snuggled in blankets.  Still sniffling and blowing today, but not as bad as yesterday.

Ruth Ann I am praying for Reba.

Jeanne I hope you feel better real soon, I don't like head colds they are so miserable. I usually take some Comtrex for a couple of days. My colds haven't been lasting very long, Knock on wood!!

Etta Sue I am crocheting a shrug, right now and still have a few stitches to  on the knitting needles for the Dishcloth. I think I will finish that off and start a pr of the 3 finger mittens I seem to always have two things going at the same time, well probably 4-5 things going at the same time if  you take into consideration that I am always working on a couple of art projects on the computer too.

I did get another webpage uploaded yesterday. Right Here (http://grafxandmore.x10.mx/47/47.html) turn on your speakers so you can hear the music.

I had a restless "J" night, and when I got up this morning and lifted the blinds, was I ever surprised!!  SNOW!!  About two inches of it, and it is beautiful--or was, it's almost all gone now.  It was so nice because there was NO wind!!  My kind of snow!  :)

I got Darrel a new little camera, and he is reading the manual.  He's been using an old 1 MP digital his brother left here, and I thought it was time to upgrade him.  This one is an Olympus 14 MP with a 20X zoom, but still really small and lightweight, fits in his shirt pocket.

I am going to try some rag rolling on a wall in the laundry room.  I will practice where the cabinets will cover it if I don't like it.  Dallas is painting the bathroom.  He painted the laundry room, but I did the cutting around the edges.  ;)

Back to work now!

We had about six inches of snow here but all streets and sidewalks are mostly clear.  The mountain range is just spectacular.  Love it!  It should remind everyone of the continuing results of Creation.  I know that most think skiing and all winter sports.

Janet:  We give thanks for son's new job as it is really tough out there.  I am still so irked over you-know-who coming here to announce that students would not have to pay off their student loans after 20 years as the majority will not feel the need to repay their loans.   What consequences will this bring?
I did not realize so much of your house had been damaged - this is like rebuilding an entire floor.

Ruth Ann:  Prayers for Reba.

Jeanne Lee:  Healing for you as well.

I have been reading the book of Ruth on my own - it still is such an inspiring story.  Bible study was called off yesterday although I could have driven up there - they just don't want anyone to take chances.

I am printing out recipes for diabetes for Don although he seems to be holding well in his numbers.  Today is a crock pot soup with cauliflower and one potato & with seasoning sounds good.  Yesterday, the casserole was very tasty so I froze three portions for him.  Need to buy some more containers for frozen meals for him.

Hi everyone.  We had a nice trip to Atlanta and enjoyed a two hour visit with Stacey.  Pat's appointment took only about 15 minutes so we got down to her apartment an hour before it was time to go to lunch.  We then dallied over lunch and visited some more.  She was telling us about a shooting that occurred on her floor, but up another hallway about 10 pm last evening.  She is the one who reported it to the security at her apartment.  The guy had apparently tried to rob the other man of his cellphone as they came into the building and followed him to the man's apartment where he shot him.  Fortunately, he didn't kill the man and they have the intruder's face on the tape from the entryway security camera.

Carol, we saw some pictures on the news about the snow in your area.  I thought that student loans were never forgiven and could not even be erased by bankruptcy.  I have to wonder where the President gets the power to forgive these debts?

Janet, that is the right type of snow that goes away almost as quickly as it falls.  Hope Darrel enjoys his new camera.  Does he take a lot of pictures?

Marilyn, you are like my wife in having several projects going at once.  She is currently working on a new quilting technique.

Jeanne, hope your day has gone better than yesterday.  You sure didn't need another ailment right now (not that the time is ever right).

Ruth Ann, hope your friend comes out of the surgery with good results.  I have often wondered how the surgerical team could work for 12 hours straight at such a tedious and difficult job.

Etta Sue, hope your dental appointment went well.

:)   Good evening to all.  Well we did get back last night from my oldest sons and when we went up we took my grand daughters new dresser. That night my son and went to his new place to take it out of the van we took it through the garage and there was a very high step which I saw but did not see the next one and down I went the dresser hit the top of my left foot and then I fell on the hardwood floor my lower back hit first then my head so you can imagine how I am feeling now.  So could you all pray that my back will be o.k. very soon.

The weather has been dull and a lot of rain and it is also starting to get much colder. Have looked at all the posts and and always very interesting.  May the Lord be with you all .  Good night for now.   Gordon and Noreen. :cp: :bananadance: :pine:

We will leave here tomorrow and head back to Winchester.  I've really enjoyed my time here.

Carol, I can't believe the snow!!! Wow!

Hi everyone.  Happy to say I got up this morning not feeling tired and am looking forward to the day.  Today is coffee at the senior center, then a friend is coming over this morning for a little while and later this afternoon we will be playing dominos with two other couples at one of their homes and then going out to eat this evening with them.  We have found that playing mid-afternoon and then going out to eat works better than eating and then playing into the evening.  The other two couples are in their 80's so driving at night isn't something to be desired.

Gord, it seems it is so easy to do something that causes a fall.  Sure glad you didn't break anything or get a concussion.  You had enough back problems without adding new injury.  Hope you are feeling better today.

Pat, have a safe trip back to Winchester.  I bet the leaves are very beautiful up in Virginia.  They have really turned out to be beautiful here.  Pat and I both noticed yesterday on our drive back and forth to Atlanta how the leaves had turned color and were so beautiful.

Out on the Potomac River, there are high white caps on the water from the heavy wind.  I maybe will get some photos before we leave after lunch.

OW, Gord!  Sorry about your accident.  You should probably go to a chiropractor and get checked out, to prevent future problems from this fall.

Oh, of course, Pat!  I did meet Ruthie---she posts so seldom now that I just didn't think at that moment, sorry Ruthie.  You are not forgettable, it's just that my memory is fallible!  <3

Larry, so good to read that you are feeling better.  Glad you had a nice visit with Stacey, and that the trip wasn't too much for you.

Carol, good to read your post, as always.  Yes, this turned out to be a total renovation!  Probably the last one of our lives, we are thinking/hoping.  I never want to have water damage again!  :P

I had a great morning!  Got a lot done here in the house, then went to Pat's to get my hair done, on the way, Diane called to say she and Abby were almost to Ulysses, as Abby had a Chiro. appointment.  So I met them at Dr. Saxon's, and Beth had a 10:00 app't as well, so got to see all three of them there.  Beth had worn her convict costume John sent her, so we took pictures there, with all of us girls and then her and Dr. Saxon.  Diane and Abby came out to see the progress on the house, and then Curt showed up, so we all, along with Darrel, went to a new place in town called Napoli's, to eat.  Nice!

And......I just got my manuscript back, so I'm going to look it over and see what other suggestions they have for me!

Yes, Marilyn.  I got the email with the pattern in it.  Looks like a nice easy pattern for beginners to use.  And it was great talking to you!!

Well, I am to get a crown on my tooth.  I figure NOT getting this crown 20-25 years ago when I was first told I needed a crown, IF I was getting interest on THAT money, I would have enough to pay for the crown NOW!  I get the crown prep next Thursday.

Today I went to swim with Janet who was having land rehab.  She thought her land rehab was at 10am for 45 minutes.  I went on to change and get in the water as soon as I got there and was back out to the lobby by 10:50am.  No Janet!  Oh, no!  Hope she didn't forget I came with her.  I checked the parking lot and she wasn't in the car.  She wasn't in the restroom.  So I asked the lady at the desk if Janet was still in rehab.  She smirked and said Janet's appointment wasn't until 1pm but she said she couldn't come back but someone had a cancellation.  Janet didn't go back until about 10:15am.  So I sat down and here came Janet!

We went to another lady's home and met with that lady and a friend.  Janet asked me to drive her van so Janet, Jody, Nancy and I went to Carmel to a new-to-me Mexican restaurant.
Abuelo's.  The waiter said that means Grandparents in Mexican.  Very good food and a very fancy restaurant!  Must go back sometime!

Then I visited with Ivalou when I got back home.  Nice visit!

Now to think of something to eat for dinner!  Not hungry!

:)  Janet.  Hi thanks for your encouragement to go to a chiro. but I do not go any more as I had some bad experiences with them over the years.  But I think that my back will get better soon with the help of your prayers and others.  I have to be very careful with my back as I have three bulging disc's and also problems with my neck so when I fell I hit both areas which did not help the problems. But  the Lord is so good to us and he always gives us the strength to get by day by day and that is what we have to trust him for and that is also for my wife.

Larry and Pat.  Glad to here that you were able to go to see you daughter and it sounds that you had a great day. I do hope that your son is also getting stronger. It so good to here that you do know when you are to tired to do things as some of us don't stop and then we pay for it later.  The Lord bless you both.

Pat and Paul:  It is so nice to here that you are able to enjoy the beautiful things that the Lord has given to us and to see the magnificent colours of the trees . Pat I am so thankful for having you as a sister in the Lord and the great witness that you and Jack were to me when I first became a Christian also for your Dad  who continued to pray for me . It is so good to be in the family of the Lord.

Tall others in C.P. it is so good to share in your daily walk with the Lord and also the things that each of us can continue to pray for. It is so sad to not see so many of the people that have posted before on this site and to her about them but we can still pray for them.  I have been in touch wit Colin Moffat in Ireland and also some of you will remember Poppa Smurf (Earl Kaffman) and told both of them to come back  now2 Earl was in my home just last week and we had a wonderful time so I hope that we may here from them.

Judy B.  Hi to you and John by the way you can keep that white stuff as I don't want it. hope that all is good and that your shoulder is getting stronger God bless SIS.

To all have a wonderful weekend and may the Lord richly bless you.  Gordon and Noreen :) :cp: :bananadance: :pine:

We had good news from Don's visit to the VA hospital today.  A bright ^ young female doctor spent almost a full hour with us (she asked him if it was alright for me to come in) and I was glad to be able to ask a couple of questions.  She says so many men are so stoic that they never say what is wrong.  Anyway, tests will resume in April but the growth on liver is benign.  Prayers answered.

Gord:  Your poor noggin and your poor poor back.  Glad that you are up and posting now.  I think your glowing tribute to your "sister Pat" is lovely.

Etta Sue:  A crown costs what we paid for a car not too long ago.

Snow is heading for the east coast and the news says they expect the first big snowfall since the Civil War days.  We usually and did get a snowfall in September but these early ones are normally wet and heavy snow and not like the powder.  A lot of tree damage in Fort Collins.

We did enjoy grandson's concert last night and he was in the jazz group with his shiny silver trumpet.

Larry:  I don't know for sure if that will pass but apparently it will be another end run around congress -   Students love the idea.

Hello friends, I am up late again but would rather sleep the last half of the night instead of the first half.  I cannot sleep all night anymore.

Yesterday morning we got up to a beautiful snowfall too.  Had a total of 2-4 inches, depending on which side of town you live on.  It was really wet, and broke some tree limbs off around town due to the weight.  Ours were not harmed however.

We have had Earl to the ER again....had some tests done and he had pneumonia, a UTI, worsened anemia, and another bad case of CHF. Since that is his admitting diagnosis into Hospice care, he can no longer be treated aggressively for that or we could not stay in Hospice.  Dtr Elaine and I had to decide which, so we know we need to stay in Hospice.  His episodes with CHF are happening more frequently, and it would happen again soon anyway.  I have to double or triple the Lasix at home, and the problem there, is that it affects his blood pressure.  So I have to be very careful.
He is weak and sick, and some days he feels a little better but most days he does not.  A retired man from our church, a deacon, came to visit one day recently, but Earl was asleep, so he and I had a visit.  He assured me of help from members of the church for me to be able to get out once in awhile to do needed errands, etc.or to just get away for a little while.  He also said plenty of people would be glad to come and sit with Earl so I could go to church.  I do not go because he falls a lot now. We have not been able to go in a long time.

Pat, I loved that song you posted a link for.  "Someone is praying for you."  That is beautiful.  Thank you for posting that.  I know people are praying for us, I can feel it.  And would you believe this...I have a new primary care physician now, and have seen him twice.  This week he actually took my hand and prayed for me and my family.  I was certainly surprised and grateful.  I do believe God provided my new doctor and gave me the direction to choose this one.  Earl's older daughter from Texas was here with us several days, and she stayed with her Dad while I went to the doctor office. She had to go back to Dallas today, but will return in a couple of weeks.

Blessings to all,
~Janice

Hi everyone.  We had rain set in last evening about 7 pm and I think it may have rained most of the night. It has cooled off as well and only 48 degrees this morning..  I have a meeting to attend this morning and then have some work to do on the computer in preparation for a business meeting next Wednesday evening so have several things on my list.  We had a very nice time yesterday afternoon playing domino's and going to a Mexican restaurant for dinner.  I came home and found that our local high school was playing their rival in the area and it was on public television.  Our high school has not lost a game, including last night, and should vie for the State Championship in their five A class.  One of the players wears a size 17 shoe and is very, very good.  He has already received letters from over 100 schools wanting him to come and play on their team.

Janet, it sounds like you hd a nice family day yesterday.  Hope you don't have too many more suggestions for changes in your book.

Etta Sue, I have several crowns on my teeth and they have worked very well for a long time.  My cracked front tooth is still holding in there and I want it to last as long as possible so am really taking care not to put any stress on it.

Ruth Ann, hope the drop off isn't too severe.  :)  Glad your friend came through her surgery.

Gord, I spoke with our DIL yesterday and she said our son was unhappy that he isn't making faster progress in his recovery.  Sorry I missed your call last evening but did sent you an email when I got home.  Hope your back and neck are feeling better.

Carol, wonderful news concerning Don's health.  I know you both were worried.

Janice, I think that often folks are more than willing to help out when a caregiver needs a respite but we, as caregivers, are reluctant to ask for the help we need.  It sounds like you have a lot of good church friends and it is important for you to have some free time.

Janice, that's the kind of doctor to have--one who prays with/for you!  The only one I have that does that is my chiropractor, and I appreciate him so much!  Sorry Earl is not doing better, but I do encourage you to ask for respite help, as we caregivers can really get worn down.  A little time away should do wonders for you; and being able to go to church sounds wonderful!

I am working again on the edits for my book.  I appreciate Amanda (editor) for her questions, comments and suggestions, as I want the book to be as strong as possible.  She 'cleaned it up' quite a bit, leaving in her comments she thinks I need to do more to implement.  I am really hoping to return it to her again in about a week.

I wish you all a good, God-filled day today.

Janice:  I want to wish you well in caring for Earl.  People really do want to help and you need to care for yourself as well so I do hope you let your friends stay with Earl while you take a break.

Not much news since last evening.  I have been sending prayers and praises to our Lord for my wonderful friends on CP.  So many health issues with praises that they aren't as bad as they could be.

I slept in today.  I have made my potato salad so I am having that for lunch.  None of it will go to waste...maybe waist but not waste!

We probably had frost this morning but I wasn't up early enough to see it.  There isn't a cloud in the sky right now!  Beautiful with the bright shining sun brightening everything.

I'm sorry I haven't been around much the last few days.  I've been spending most of the time snuggled in a blanket on the couch, fighting a nasty cold.  Do you have any idea how terrible daytime TV is?   >:(  But today everything seems to be on the mend.  Except for the weather.  It's dark and dreary right now, but supposed to start soon with mixed rain/snow and change to all snow with accumulations from 2 to 7 inches - or more.   :(

Ruth Ann and Jeanne--you two just take it easy and snuggle in your warm blankets on the couch!  It's good for you!

I have been working on the book for most of the day and need a break.  I think I will go for a walk to clear my head!

Hi everyone.  We had another beautiful day here yesterday, a bit cooler but not uncomfortable.  The sun has come up and I see no clouds in the sky this morning.  This morning I will be joining our church choir at a local nursing home as we share in the "Send Sunday" activities that our church has planned for today.  We did this several months ago where there is a brief service and then different teams of church members go out into the community to do service projects.  It includes everything from picking up trash along the major highway to writing letters or notes of thank you and appreciation to our local teachers and soldiers.  The choir has chosen to sing at two nursing homes and then will visit with the patients for a while.  They are doing one performance this morning and one later this afternoon.  I am going to sing this morning but will pass on the afternoon as need to rest in the afternoons.  I sure feel for our friends in the Northeast hit with that terrible snow storm.

Janet, how many rewrites and edits do you expect to happen?  I have always heard it is not an easy job to write a book.

Marilyn, did your team win yesterday.  The Georgia University Bulldogs finally beat the Florida Gators.  It wasn't a particularly well played game but liked the outcome.

Jeanne Lee, I usually don't watch any daytime TV other than some news first thing in the morning.  Pat watches a lot of TV during the day but usually old movies or programs on the Hallmark Channel or something like that.  Hope your cold is much better today.  Hope you didn't get too much snow or will get too much today.

Time to start a new week.  As we proceed let us keep the needs of our brothers and sisters in prayer.  Prayer should ne our first response not a "when all else fails " response.
