Morning Devotional...READ:
2 Corinthians 4:16-5:5 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Corinthians%204:16-5:5&version=NKJV)
Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands (2 Corinthians 5:1).
What marvelous words! It is obvious that here is a description of the present body of flesh and bones we live in contrasted with the same body, risen and glorified by the activity of the Spirit of God. When you compare these words with those in 1 Corinthians 15, you can see that Paul is talking here about the resurrected body, that body we shall receive in which he says mortality will be "swallowed up" in immortality. He uses the same terminology here. It is the body, he says, that we shall enter "in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, we will be changed" and this new body will be given to us (1 Corinthians 15:52). Here he is contrasting the two. The present body, he says, is like a tent. We are living a temporary experience, as people do when they live in a tent.
I sometimes feel uncomfortable in this tent of my earthly body. I am sure you do, too. A tent is not very satisfying. The stakes begin to loosen, the poles begin to sag, the tent itself sags in various spots, the cold penetrates, and it is not very comfortable. Some of us feel that way as we grow older. But we are looking forward to the resurrection body, the permanent building, that which God had in mind when He made us in the beginning, the permanent dwelling place designed by God without any human help, "a house not made with hands." Nothing human produces it or adds to it; nothing that the undertaker does while our body is being prepared for the grave adds a single thing to what God will do that will produce the body of glory that is to come. The point Paul makes is that it is already ours in eternity. "We have," he says. Notice the present tense: not "We will have." "We have an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands" already there, waiting for us to put on.
The apostle says that this new body, the resurrected body, is an experience of not being disembodied but being further embodied. He changes the idiom from the building to the body and says it is like being further clothed, so that it is more than we have at the moment. If you feel like you are clothed by being in a body, then in that body you will feel even more clothed, "further clothed." No one wants to float around in a bodiless existence. Paul says your actual experience will be this: "You will be further clothed upon death as believers. You will have a new body. That is a weight of glory beyond all description, and it will come instantly, for the one who has prepared us for this very thing is God."
I thank You, Lord, that when that moment of glory breaks upon my startled heart, I shall at last see Him whom I have long loved and served. From the Writings of Ray Stedman

Ivalou called this morning and she still isn't feeling well. Not going to church. Cutting her medicine in half hasn't helped. Today she is going to take the medicine for prevention of gout. Hope that works! She has pain all over her body that moves from sight to sight...stinging pain, she has no appetite and all she wants to do is sleep! I don't like it when my sister isn't feeling well.
Off to church in a few minutes.! <OO> <oo> <OO> <oo> <OO> <oo> <OO> <oo> <OO> <oo>

Father , I pray for Ivalou that You will fill her with Your peace. I pray You'll let her know that You love her and that she's safely in Your hands. I pray You'll touch her body with healing in just the way You know is best for her and for Your glory through Jesus our Lord.

Jeanne ...My you were up early this am!
The girls have brought a bug home and I have caught it. I am staying home today.
I will suggest wrapping the tomatoes to my DIL. she may want to try that. I have decided on a relish recipe and a green tomato mincemeat recipe for this year.
I am not doing much today. I'll be back.
Judy, take it as easy as you can - get extra rest and don't try using up those tomatoes yet.
It wasn't so much up early as it was the middle of one of those broken nights - sleep an hour or two, awake an hour or two, sleep an hour or two, etc. ;)
Hi everyone. I got home from my weekend meeting in Macon, GA about 4:30 this afternoon. We had a long meeting this morning with lots of sitting and my legs are aching. Guess I need a take a Tylenol as it would help the discomfort. We did have a good meeting and I am glad I was able to attend. I will be turning in early this evening. I am tired and I did the driving this weekend with a friend accompanying me, which made the trip down and back much more enjoyable.
We continue to get lots of rain. Fortunately I didn't have to drive in the rain.
Pat, thanks for the devotional thoughts for this week. Hope you have a good trip back to Canada.
Larry, I am so glad you are getting good rains there; also that you didn't have to drive in the rain.
Judy, hurry and get that bug flushed out of your system!
We attended Sunday School this morning, then went to Hugoton for Lexi's party. She's sure a cutie, but so independent! She won't let any of us hold or cuddle her. Of course, she was lavished with far too many gifts, again. I guess that's the way young parents operate these days, but this ggma isn't sure it's the best for the kids. Lexi did "oooh and aaahh" over each one, stopped to look through the books, said "pretty" and such....so she did seem to appreciate each gift. That's a good thing.
It was good to have the day off to rest, recouperate and visit with family. Wish I didn't have to go back at it again tomorrow.......
Janet, please don't overdo getting ready for the auction. We don't want to hear that you've collapsed from complete exhaustion one of these days.
Jim D. - I too have some of the puritans in my library, as does our pastor locally. I have Manton on John 17, Brown on Hebrews, Manton on James, etc. I've read most of Owens' works in the past, as well as Flavel. Jonathan Edwards has long been a favorite. I attended Westminster Theo. Seminary, where the teachings of the puritans is highly esteemed. I truly thank God for these men and their teaching. I'm an Associate at the local church (which just means I'm a retired pastor who isn't really retired!). The pastor has a much larger library than mine and is always seeking new sources for books from the puritan period among others.
Our son and Megan came over and brought supper with them. Good meal she is a very good cook.
The chickens are gone. Elizabeth is happy to be rid of that chore, and we have good eating for the coming year.
Jeanne I won't start the tomatoes till friday. I have enough on my plate till then. Janet yes I am flushing the syster, I don't have time to be under the weather.
It is 10:25 and I am ready for bed. Night all!

I meant to say yesterday that Ivalou didn't take the medicine for the prevention of gout. I saw her yesterday afternoon and she said she felt better, just weak from not eating. I took her a Sticky Bun from the restaurant where we ate and she said it was delicious. I called this morning and she sounded stronger. She said she was going to call the doctor's office and tell them that she wasn't going to take that medicine any more. Hopefully she will get better all the time. It took awhile for it to get into her system...started Aug 29th so it will probably take awhile to get it out of her system.
Today I am going to a 50th class reunion meeting. We will discuss what we need to do now. Perhaps will be writing a letter for us to send email and snail mail. Maybe a questionnaire for a Memory Book. May 2010 will be here before we know it!
It has been raining. Not hard. Just gentle rains. The colors have sure changed in the last week. Soybeans are being harvested and the corn fields are turning yellow. Some trees are becoming fall colors. But the nicest thing is the grass isn't growing!!!!(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*(*)*

Hi everyone. We really have a rainy and very overcast day. During the night we had a thunder storm with heavy rain that lasted at least 3 hours. We have had so much rain that most of the schools are closed today, roads flooded all around the area and at least two people have died when their vehicles were swept away with flooded creeks. One of these is not too far from where I live here in our county. There was also a major mudslide on one of our major roads going into Atlanta from this area. More rain is on its way today and the next couple of days. Where I live there really isn't a danger of flooding and the roads I travel don't cross creeks so that isn't a problem.
I have my regular men's Monday luncheon today and that is all that is on the schedule.
Tomorrow Pat has a doctor's appointment down across from where our daughter lives. Our daughter is still not over the throat condition she has been fighting for days and has a very sore throat and husky voice. Do hope we get a break in the rain tomorrow while we made the trip downtown.
Judy, it sounds like you are not letting your illness slow you down much. I am sure you were glad to have the chicken project completed for this year. Hope John is feeling better.
Janet, so glad to read that you and Darrel took a day off from the sale preparation. I think most of us find we really don't miss much of what we get rid of since we obviously weren't using it to start with. However, our upbringings in terms of wasting nothing is hard to overcome.
Al and Jim, that sounds like some heavy reading you are describing. Our pastor amazes us in our weekly Bible study with his recall of different authors and what they have written. I guess that was part of his training for his PHD.
Etta Sue, glad to ready that Ivalou is feeling better. We sure don't look like fall down this way, more like spring.
Good Morning I don't have much to say just checking in.
Larry I have seen the news of the flooding in Atlanta and am glad to hear that you are not affected.
I have a German Chocolate cake in the oven that will be done before I leave for yoga class.
Marilyn, may I have a piece of your cake when it's done? Nobody in my family (Terry & the kids) likes German Chocolate cake but me, so I don't fix it very often!
Hope y'all are doing great!

I finally gave in and took an ambien last night, then slept until 8:30 this morning. My whole day feels off-kilter, but at least I am not as tired.
It is quite cool here today, and windy. We are working on the water system at the big house, getting it ready for the guys to move in. We really need to mow, but both mowers have problems; meaning at least a half-day of work for Darrel to get them running again. Always something, it seems. :-\
I was given a ticket to the Community Concert tonight in Garden City. It features Nearly Neil and the Solitary Band. If I am not too tired I will go ride the Senior Bus and go. They are leaving at 4:00 so they will have time to eat somewhere. They always have to eat! ;)
I'd better go see if Darrel needs my help!
Fotobirder has posted an Urgent Prayer Request HERE (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=9002.0)
Let's all pray with him.
The concert last night was really good! Bobby Bruce is from Canada, and he sounds exactly like Neil Diamond--uncanny! And each of his four band members is tremendously talented, as well. It was a fun evening with friends, after a not-so-good start. The bus had mechanical problems, and we wound up splitting up and going in some personal vans. As long as I didn't have to drive, I was happy! And my car isn't big enough to take but three people plus the driver.
We had to call the well repair man........sigh. More expense.
Larry, hope you are staying above the high waters! Prayers for all in the Atlanta area.
We had a little shower here last night, much more moisture in surrounding areas.
Time to get busy again!
(https://www.christianphotographers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi195.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fz77%2FEttaSue%2FCP%2FAnis%2FCatinflowers.gif&hash=2b5306cbb7fccffb042f5d2f80f968e21008cae3)
I pulled a Janet last night. Couldn't get to sleep. So I got up and worked some on the Memory Book for LHS Class of 1960. Went back to bed around 4 something and got up at 9:07!!
Ivalou seems to be much better today. That medicine was killing her!
I also found lots of relatives and lost friends on Facebook. Love the search feature and see what friends others have on there.
Kitty is having eye surgery today. Cataracts and implants. She says she goes back tomorrow to be checked and the other eye done. Then Thursday back to have that eye checked. Not sure if she has to go back again after that or not! I am praying that her vision is much better and that colors are more prominent.
Not much planned today. Cloudy and overcast. I am sure praying for those who live in flood areas with all the rain down south!~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^

We have a warm day up here today. This is nice , We have had too many cool damp days this past week.
We are finishing canning carrots, and chopping cabbage for sauerkraut. I am procrastinating. It has been a long season of canning and I am glad to be to the end on it.
We are praying that John will be going back to work this weekend. This has been a long hard haul for us. Employment Insurance doesn't cover needs. Thankfully the end is in sight.
Got to go. Have a lot to get accomplished. I am praying for the folk in Atlanta.
Judy: Canning carrots do you mean preparing and freezing. Sauerkraut how do you do that or better still send some down for Mel to have.
I will be getting the last of my tomatoes stewed and put in jars. I will be glad when that is done.
As this is the last day of summer until 5:22 p.m. I am enjoying it to the fullest. Sunny and warm. Could this be a sign of what is ahead for the fall season?
Ruth No I am canning the carrots. Sauerkraut is easy. Shredded cabbage and salt til the crock is full then when fermenting is done into jars.
I understand the gladness when the produce is done. We still have green tomatoes to do and I am wanting to make a batch of grape juice and grape jam....John's favourite jam.
Larry how is the rain? is it still a problem?
Have a great night everyone. I am off.
No, no, no, Etta Sue! Don't start having Janet kind of nights! NOT fun at all. Glad Iva Lou is feeling better. And it's true, some medicines just really mess people up!
Judy, I used to can so much stuff, hundreds and hundreds of jars every summer. And I made sauerkraut, too! Just one summer, though. Darrel doesn't care for kraut at all, so I don't have to worry about doing it again. That was years ago, before Darrel was in my life. But we surely wish we had enough tomatoes to can. We enjoy canning tomatoes with peppers and onions in them, useful for many things. But we have barely had a few to use on the table this summer.
The photos on TV look so awful of the flooding in Georgia. So sad to lose your life's accumulation of possessions that way, and last I heard there were 9 deaths from the flooding, too. Will remain in prayer for all those involved.
I have been digging in my painting/crafts/scrapbooking room all day, getting rid of stuff and deciding what to sell. Have barely made a dent---WAY too much stuff. I used to teach children's classes as well as different kinds of classes for adults, am not doing that now, so out it goes. I have been meditating on the passage in Ecc. that says...'a time to keep, and a time to throw away.....' and I think this is that time to throw away. It will be a huge relief to have all this stuff gone!!
Larry, that's so true, growing up with little taught us to keep and save and make do...but now is the time in our lives to downsize in a big way. I feel like all this stuff is just squeezing the life out of me, and I can't wait to see it leave!
I need to call my friend Pat and see how she is doing today. Yesterday, she was a little better, hope she is even better yet today.
Hi everyone. We have had last night and today with no rain but more is apparently on the way. The sun was actually out today and it was nice to see the blue sky. Some of the pictures we are seeing on the news are really said with all the flooding. Many homes over West of the city have flood waters up to the second floor level. One entire school is flooded and there have been 8 or 9 reported deaths and they are still looking for some missing people. The Governor has declared 20 counties, including ours, as disaster areas. A lot of people have water in their basements. I don't have a basement so don't have to worry about that with this house.
Pat saw the foot doctor today and he removed the stitches. She is now able to get her sock and shoe on that foot. We came home and then went out to lunch at a Cajun place. It was a new one for us and we both liked what we had.
We were going to take our daughter out to lunch but she was in a lot of pain with her foot and elected to pass on it. When I got to her apartment house to park this morning (Pat's appointment was in the building next door) there were police cars, an ambulance and fire truck in front of the building. There had been some kind of crime situation as they arrested a man and took someone off in the ambulance. By the time we had visited with our daughter for a few minutes and left everything had cleared out.
Good Morning everyone. Hope all is well with you folks this fine day. Larry been watching the news about the flooding in your part of the world. Our prayers are with you folks there. It was good to hear that you are not seriously effected by it. But the rains will still leave things pretty soggy. I have been through and around Atlanta many times in my work as well as pleasure. Things are a bit wet here today but nothing to worry about. Just enough to keep activities to the indoors for today. Pat hope your arm feels better soon. i know how that feels as many years ago while unloading a heavy office desk from a truck I ripped that muscle in my right arm. That resulted in that arm forming what the doctor called a Popeye muscle to compensate for the lost use of the injured muscle. Well my situation seems to keep improving. The doctors have finally hit on something that seems to be working. Got to go see the doctor Friday Morning and hope to get released to return to work. Just in time to get ready for the winter season BRRRRR. Was talking to one of the drivers this past week and he said things are getting busy. Gearing up for the Christmas season again. Just wish I could get at the wood for the winter heating season but that is still a bit of an issue. Just hope that those who promised to help come through. Well got to run for now. Blessings everyone. Enjoy your day for this is the day that the Lord has made. Bonesy.
Bonsey, good to see you posting and great that you're truly "on the mend".

First I couldn't get online. I powered down the modem and restarted the laptop. Still not online. I looked at the modem. The internet light wasn't on. So I called Embarq. 'Parts of Indiana unable to connect to the internet...will be fixed by 8pm this evening'! Wow! A day without internet! So I was playing a game and a friend came on Skype. Internet was on and here I am!
Janet, after a 'Janet' night, last night I slept soooo good! I don't think I moved from about 3am on!!
Ivalou is feeling much better! She is getting her appetite back and wants to go get some groceries in this afternoon.
I am going to Greenfield to have lunch with some co-workers that some I haven't seen for 16 years! I know it will be fun! I had forgotten Greenfield had a Cracker Barrel...what better place to have lunch?
Kitty got one of her eyes worked on yesterday and today will be the other one! I know she will be glad when it is all over!
So good to see Bonesy post and to pray that he will return to work soon. Glad to hear the rain has subsided in Atlanta! And everyone else...good to see you posting!
And yes, it was great to talk to Gord yesterday. Love the accent. Of course, I don't have an accent! ::){{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}} {{{HUGS}}}

Good Morning not a whole lot going on here for the last few days.
Etta Sue was it the gout medicine that made Iva Lou sick or did she have the "Bug"?
Both of Keith's parents had gout and his mother got Cirrhosis of the liver from the gout medicine. That is what she died from.
Bonesy good to see you posting and glad that you have improved, I hope you can get back to work.
Janet is one of your houses A Geodesic dome house? I asked you that question a few days ago but didn't get an answer. I don't mean to pry.
Larry praying for Pat and Stacey.
Pat are you back in Canada now and how is Geordie?
Latest Praise report on Grandson who has MRSA - a terrible staph infection. Thanks be, he is on the road to recovery and no more pain. He is even skating once again.
Here, it is raining but close to being snow. Yep, it has snowed a few times in the last few weeks and then we have a really nice day as well. My cousin & wife are in Iowa or Kansas now as he is making a loop drive from Washington & he went to meet some relatives in Minnesota. He will be here Friday. I have a 2 hour dental appointment :'( on Thursday so it is good they won't arrive on that day. Meanwhile, am cleaning all the corners of this house.
MRSA is such a terrible disease. Thankfully John has tested clear.
Well my carrots are done! That was a labour intensive job.
Don This year we had purple carrots. They had a orange inner core and they boiled up purple. Have you seen these before? They taste good just I haven't seen them before.
MRSA was the cause of death listed on Gene's death certificate.
Purple carrots! :yikes: No I have not. All my carrots were orange and delicious. I had a big hand full this afternoon with some ranch dressing.
However I am growing purple butter beans this year and I have never seen them before either. Well the bean is actually black with a white stripe, the hulls and flowers are purple. They are beautiful. I am going to try them in hanging baskets next year. The person that gave them to me said they were ornamental butter beans. I'll try to find out more about them. I took photos of them this afternoon and will try to post some after church tonight.
Did you get any photos of the carrots?
Don
Purple carrots, purple butter beans.....we had some purple sweet potatoes a while back, but they came from Thailand. Purple seems to be becoming a popular color for veggies!
Yes, Marilyn, we have a geodesic dome. Sorry I forgot to answer you sooner. I knew there was something I was forgetting..... :-\ It has three levels plus a cupola. But it is in terrible condition now. Darrel's brother built it, and he didn't use the right materials, but that's another story.
MRSA......that's awful. I was surely praying Beth wouldn't get that while in the hospital! And she didn't.
I have been digging out and sorting all day again, in my studio. So much stuff, so little space. But I will have more space when I get finished! Of course I am finding stuff I had forgotten I ever owned. I hope others will be able to enjoy all of it.
John, good to see you posting and glad you're getting better, hope your return to work goes smoothly.
I need to go to the photographer's site and look at the pics Beth, John and Becki had taken. I haven't seen them yet.
JudyB and Jeanne: MRSA is what I call one of the evil diseases - shows no mercy. I heard that once you have the disease and ever catch it the 2nd. time, it is almost impossible to fight. Will not think of that scenario ever.
I had to walk away from the t.v. news - there are some politicians in this country that should be ousted promptly but it will never happen.
Janet: Some people say that if you haven't used something in a few years to get rid of it - that is not always so great because you can end up buying the same thing when you really need it again. Good luck. I keep going through things here & always have plus we have moved many times so that brings the load down. The geodesic dome shape is one that some architect wants to use in hurricane country as the shape itself is stronger in the wind.
I was listening to Joyce Meyer for a while today and she was telling a huge audience to stop thinking only of yourself and get out there and do something to help - even any little thing is a change for the better for someone else. Inspiring.
Peeked in to read the devotional and see the pictures and wanted to say how I enjoyed it and gain something new. I feel so bad for those in Ga. Much of the rain is missing us here in Fl. and going that way. Prayers for all those in need. I hope to come back more but sometimes no time for much puter. It was a good visit. thanks. alice
I looked at the newbie and sadly that tells how often I get in here. I have been coming here several years but just not often and often don't post. Oh my.
Don I should send you sone seed! Remind me in the spring. William Dam Seeds offers a purple carrot as well as a multi coloured carrot.
They tested John for MRSA. Apparently about 4 years ago he tested positive. This time all three tests came back clean Praise God for that.
Alice come back again soon!
Night all!
I have been at the hospital since 2:30PM. Just got home. Ivalou had a stroke. Her daughter-in-law Linda was visiting and she called me on Voice Mail and said Ivalou wasn't right and she thought she was having a stroke. Then Kaye Don called on Voice Mail and said he called 911. Then he called back and said they were on the way to the hospital. I was visiting with my friends and finally checked my cell phone. I was 30 miles away at least! But I got to the hospital at 2:30. She was responding when she first got there but I am hoping that meds are causing her to be confused and not talking. It has affected her right side but this evening she was moving her right shoulder and wiggling her toes. CT scan showed no bleeding. Tomorrow morning they are to do a brain scan. I will try to keep you posted.
Her two daughters from Ohio came and will be staying at Ivalou's house.
Etta Sue, I'm so sorry to read this. :( I'll be praying for complete recovery for Iva Lou.
I'll be praying also Etta Sue.
I found out last night at church that a friend of mine woke up yesterday and her husband was unresponsive. He is in the hospital on a ventilator and they don't know what is wrong. Please keep them in your prayers.
I'll post also in prayer and praise.
Don
A belated Happy Birthday click.

Hi everyone. First of all Happy Birthday to Liz and Cowgirl.
Etta Sue, so sorry to hear of Ivalou's stroke but it sounds like she is coming out of it and hopefully the effects on her side will be minimal or go away completely. I know this is a scary time for all the family.
Don, sorry to hear of your church friend's undefined illness and hope he responds to treatment.
Carol, the MRSA seems to be appearing all over. Within our choir family we have had several persons who have relatives who have been successfully treated.
Pat hasn't been feeling very good yesterday and doesn't seem to be today. She has cellulitus in her foot that was operated on. She is taking antibiotics. I know several of you, including John and also Pat can well relate to this.
We have some really sad situations in the metro area with the flooding and many people have lost everything and many don't have flood insurance. I heard this morning that there is one family with 10 children (2 of their own and 8 adopted) who lost their home but had purchased the flood insurance just 5 days before the flood.
Marilyn, thanks to you and everyone for the prayers for my family. We did not hear from Stacey yesterday as she had her phone turned off. Hopefully she will call us today. She is still trying to recover from her recent bouts of illness plus dealing with the extreme pain in her foot.
If you have a minute I think you will enjoy the following (it isn't very long):

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COWGIRL!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LIZ!!!
Oh, Etta Sue, I am so sorry to hear that Iva Lou has had a stroke! I pray they got her to the hospital and gave her that special med in time to prevent permanent damage. I will be praying for her.
This afternoon I will be going to Hugoton to stay with Abby. Then on Sunday I will be going to Fowler for my painting class. :) :D ;D 8) YES!!!
But today.......more work getting ready for the auction. The auctioneer is to be here this morning to catalogue the items and take some photos. He is in for a big shock--he referred to it as "a little sale like this..." ;)
Oh, how we need to be praying for our beloved country. I agree with Carol--so many politicians need to be ousted! And we have one who really thinks he is the smartest man in the world, even a messiah.......God, have mercy.
I pray for each of us here, may we stand strong, keeping our eyes on the only One who can keep us through these times. I'm SO GLAD He is in control!
Larry, we were typing at the same time. I will pray for Pat. Cellulitis is not a good thing. And I pray that Stacey will also be feeling better today. God bless you, brother.
God bless your life, Liz, and may He enable you to see its effectiveness more each birthday!
And also Cowgirl - we are glad you are here, and this day marks your coming!
God grant us mercy and free us from the awful results of our foolishness in electing the wrong people to lead in our nation.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIZ!~~!!!
Oh Larry I know how difficult cellulitis is to treat first hand. John and i are praying.
MRSA. From what I have been told is in epidemic proportions in North America. Many people don't even know they have it.
John is at the Doctor today to get his release to go back to work. Thank you everyone for praying.
Know that I am here--silently reading, giving up prayers to our Heavenly Father for your needs.
I am also "marveling" at the many talents here, gardening, canning, make use of the natural wonders our Lord provides..
The strength and hard work in gardening and then the patience in the canning.
Keep up the good works. Everything sounds delicious; to bad I am to far away to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
LOL Joyce you would be welcome!

Well we have had our excitement for the month. Kass looked out the Kitchen window and freeked because the across the road neighbour had black smoke pouring out of his yard. Bear in mind his yard is 200 acres. Instead of calling the fire dept we went down to see if Donny was ok and found him standing by watching an old broken down boat burn. We figure along with the bottle he was drinking, he likely threw a cigarette butt into the boat (with a half full tank of gas) and it blew. All was under control. We started talking and he has offered us all the maple we want for winter burning and showed us where we could tap maple for syrup in the spring. Interesting what happens when you show you care.
Thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes. The graphics are terrific. Marilyn, that cat looks just like my Misty demanding her breakfast....
Happy Birthday Cowgirl! Did you know we are almost the same age? Except instead of a 1 in front of the 7, I have another 7.
My daughter and SIL got back from there holiday in Quebec yesterday, minus two of their suitcases. WestJet has now found them and they should be here tomorrow. Same thing happened on their last holiday. That darn elf keeps tagging along on holidays, causing all kinds of trouble. They loved Quebec, especially Montreal, found that in some places 98% of the people only spoke French.....so that proved interesting.
Judy B., you and John put a whole different spin on that old saying 'No Good Deed Goes Unpunished'. Real Maple Syrup! Yumm.
I liked that link Larry. I am also praying for your family and all the others mentioned. So sorry to hear about your sister, Etta Sue.
Like Carol, I find the news so depressing. I follow things in the US very closely as our countries are so closely linked. Agree with Al and Janet, same things apply in Canada. What really scares me about this new world is that Illusion seems to have become the New Reality.
Amanda and 54 other people raised over one thousand dollars each for a Easter Seal drive by the CHEK TV station and were rewarded (?) by the thrill of rapelling down the 13 story CIBC building in Victoria. For a time I was worried about having to contact the kids and explain how their daughter came to be splattered all over a sidewalk in Victoria. Thank goodness all ended well for all and a lot of money was raised for a good cause.
We are enjoying great weather here on the island and it is almost like summer again. Think that may change any minute now as fall is very much in the air.
Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.
Liz
I feel that Ivalou is much improved. Almost as soon as a therapist told her she had had a stroke and that she needed to work to get better. She spoke a few words today but isn't finishing sentences. The moved her right arm and leg when therapists asked her to do so. We were told if she keeps on improving she will be moved out of ICU to a private room. From there she will either go to Transitional Care Unit or Rehab depending on her strength. The physical therapists sat her on the side of the bed and then stood her up. They told her to raise her head and she stood straight up as straight as could be! Praise God.
I am tired but I will try to keep you all informed. Only 41 emails today.
Also two granddaughters from Ohio should be here now...Emily and Lauren who is having surgery the 29th. Lauren just got home from Sarasota this evening but said she wanted to see Grandma before she had surgery herself. Long day for her...Sarasota, Tampa, Atlanta, Dayton and then the car to Indy!
Thanks for the cares, concerns and prayers!
Etta Sue: It sounds like Ivalou had someone right there to call for help immediately and that is so important in a stroke recovery. Bless her heart, she hasn't been feeling well lately. Prayers for you too as I know how close you are to your sister. Hugs to you.
Larry: I did not know that cellitus on the foot can be helped with surgery. It does sound so painful.
JudyB: If John has already experienced MRSA then it is wonderful that he did not contact it the 2nd. time because it can be worse with each episode, so I have heard. I hope all is well with you and the family - enjoy those chicken dinners.
Don: Prayers for your friend.
Liz: I couldn't watch if they were coming down from heights.
Here, I have a cousin coming tomorrow for a visit and we don't know how long. Today, I made a large crockpot of Lentil Soup and tomorrow, will bake blueberry muffins, a bacon quiche and anything else that comes to mind. Also, Don's hearing is not improving at all and I do all the telephone duties - even answering. I keep praying that his hearing distortion will improve even just enough so he can listen to music once again. No light at the end of the tunnel yet!
We have 3 people needing prayer for strokes....Don's friend, Ivalou and Fottobirder's wife. Lets lift these people in prayer as well as their families.
Kass was just down unable to stop coughing. Used an old remedy of Mother's. ice in a washcloth wrapped around the throat and a woolie sock on top of that. That was done 10 minutes ago, and the coughing has subsided. Thanks Mom!
I am tired tonight, so heading to bed.
Night all
Hi everyone. Happy to say it is a sunny day here in Georgia. This is now the third day without rain and it is giving people a chance to cleanup where there was flooding. There are really some sad situations with people losing everything and no flood insurance. Our county was not included in the disaster declaration from the President although there was a lot of flooding and damage.
I am happy to be able to report that Pat said she noticed her foot was better last night and again this morning so hopefully the antibiotic is doing its job as well as time healing the pain from the surgery. Carol, the surgery wasn't for the cellulitis but for a benign tumor on the nerve in her foot. The cellulitis was caused by the gauze dressing rubbing on the top of her foot during the 12 days after surgery before she took the bandage off. We spoke with our daughter last evening and she is now down with a bad head cold. She just seems to go from one thing to another. I know her resistance must really be low.
Etta Sue, so glad to read of the positive news regarding Ivalou. I personally know several people who made complete recovery from a stroke. It took some time and a lot of work on their part.
Janet, great to read that you are going to get a break for a couple of days. Hope the auctioneer didn't faint when he saw the job ahead of him.
Morning Folks. It's a beautiful day here in the north although a bit n the cool side today. We are experiencing a wonderful autumn up her this year. Are prayers are with those with health issues that God may restore their health according to His will. We can take comfort in the fact He is in control and has the big picture in His sight. it is comforting to know that we serve a loving Father. Well I got my return to work note from the doctor yesterday so I'll be heading back on the road this weekend, The only restriction is no heavy lifting or excessive walking for a month or so. Thank you all for your prayer support. It is good to hear that the weather in the Atlanta area has started to improve. Now the massive cleanup begins but I'm sure that the sunshine there is a welcome site. Well I'm going to run for now. Things to do and people to see. Blessings to everyone. Bonesy
God truly is the controller of all things and He answers prayer! We praise Him for His care for you, John, and will be looking forward to your visit as you pass through Winchester on your next trip down this way. Your "Flying J" truck stop is just 7 1/2 miles from the new house location, so let us know when you're coming through.
We are still just a few weeks from getting the Falls Church house on the market but what a job after having lived here for 28 years, which seems like yesterday!
I am home for a while. Abby will be babysitting after school until 6, so I came home to help Darrel and to have Pat do my hair. She is going to Lubbock, Texas tomorrow to see the neurosurgeon who will be doing her surgery on her back. That will be a miserable trip for her, I'm sure. She called and said she feels better today and wants to do my hair so I will look better for my painting class next week. ;)
So glad to hear Iva Lou is doing better, also that Pat's foot is improving; and that John has been released to return to work. God is still answering prayer!!
One of my high dollar hearing aids just quit the other day. Well, both of them quit, but this morning I took them and one of Darrel's that also quit, in to the hearing aid place. The one where we got them has disappeared.... :ticked: Anyway, the lady got Darrel's and my left one to work, but the right one not. She put in a new battery, it beeped three times and quit. She said she can send it in to be repaired, it would cost $360 and then have a one year warranty. Boy, what a racket!! At the prices they charge, that is about $1000 per year for hearing aids. I'm not sure what we will do. I haven't worn these all the time, probably not as much as I should have, but now that I can tell I need them more, they quit. Grrrr.
I must get busy around here again, it will be time to head back to Hugoton before I know it. Then I will bring Abby home with me until her parents get home.
Blessings to you all.
We have another Prayer REquest that we'd sure appreciate greatly if you'd go and read and post to Steve aka Fotobirder that you're praying.
Louise, Fotobirder's wife (http://www.christianphotographers.com/community/index.php?topic=9018.0)
Thank you so much!
I am feeling really upset, so thought to come here and feel better.
The kid's suitcases were returned today. They were both broken into and a number of very expensive things were stolen. Wendy is terribly upset! She is trying to report this, no luck getting thro to the WestJet people....
So beware. We really do live in a sad and scary world. Like Janet and many others, I long for the return of our Lord.
God Bless,
Liz
Ohhh, Liz! How awful. I'm really sorry about this. I hope that Wendy is able to get in touch with West Jet.
Yes, it will be a glorious day!
This is for you, Liz....

John 11:24
Words and Music: Jim Hill
There is coming a day,
When no heart aches shall come,
No more clouds in the sky,
No more tears to dim the eye,
All is peace forever more,
On that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
There'll be no sorrow there,
No more burdens to bear,
No more sickness, no pain,
No more parting over there;
And forever I will be,
With the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.

First of all, I went to my surgeon for the Interstim Therapy. He is pleased and so am I how well I am now doing since I found out the same medication is different when it is manufactured by different companies. What I got from mail-in is like sugar pills. The medicine from CVS is working better and I am doing better than I have for 40 years!!! I don't have to see the surgeon again until March 2010.
Ivalou is a miracle!! Yesterday she coughed after a teaspoon of water.
Today the Speech Therapist gave her some water and it went down great and her throat muscles were working like they should. She ordered a throat x-ray. When they took her to x-ray my nieces and I went for lunch. We came back and Ivalou was sitting up in a chair drinking a cup of coffee!! Then a nurse brought her some lunch. Cut up assorted fruit, tuna salad, coffee and Sprite. She even fed herself with her left hand. OT and PT came in and she moved her right arm up as far as possible and her right knee to her chest.
Then her doctor came in and said yesterday she wouldn't talk, or move her right side at all for him. We told him he will be surprised what she can do today. He said, I will believe it when I see it. He asked her to say something. She said 'Okay!' He asked her to raise her arm. She did. Raise her knee. She did. Then he leaned in and said 'Ivalou, you certainly have surprised me. I saw and I believe. You are going to move to another room this evening. And if you continue, you will be moved to rehab Sunday night!' So she has been moved to a private room on the same floor.
Praise God.
Tomorrow morning I have to take my car and see why the 'check engine' light is on. I just hope it will be a fast and cheap fix!!
Etta Sue, what fantastic news!
That really is so good to read tonight. We'll continue to pray for your dear sister. Please tell her that I remember her fondly from our Calgary trip.
Etta Sue Wonderful news God is faithful!!
Had Kassie at the clinic tonight didn't get out of there till after 8:30. It looks like I was right she had a bad virus infection. Then a secondary infection has developed. So we have to pick up 2 prescriptions for her. All drug stores are closed, so that will have to wait till tomorrow.
We are all tired. Night and God bless.
Liz I know that must make your blood boil for sure. They come to my place at night and take hanging baskets. I guess they ride by in the day to pick out the ones they want, my baskets are visible from the highway, and then come back in total darkness to get it. A sad state that we are in. I have to really be careful so as to not say something I should not say.
Thanks for the good news Etta Sue, I will continue to pray. Good luck with that check engine light, what a rip off that can be sometimes.
Sorry Kassie is feeling bad Judy. Will be praying for her also.
Hope you all got some rest last night.
Don
Hi everyone. Our area is back under a flash flood watch until Sunday evening. So far we haven't had much rain but the chances increase all day long and tomorrow.
When I wrote yesterday I guess it was pre-mature regarding Pat's foot. While it is healing nicely from the surgery, the cellulitus is not responding to the antibiotic and her foot is really hurting her. She will be contacting the doctor on Monday. She is working hard at not being furious over this situation as feels the infection was the result of non-sterile conditions in the operating room when she had her surgery. The bottom of her foot is no longer hurting her when she walks, as it has for several years, but the top of the foot hurt.
Etta Sue, sure glad to read of the great progress that Ivalou is making. It is amazing what a difference 24 hours make in our healing processes. Glad to read your good news regarding the medicine working for you.
Liz, I saw a report on the news recently about how suitcases can be opened and reclosed without showing they have been broken into and the locks stay in place. I guess we should keep everything valuable in our possession while flying. A few months ago my best friends granddaughter was returning from schooling in England and had her CD collection stolen from her luggage.
Don, sorry to read of the problem you are having with people stealing your hanging baskets. Do you prepare these yourself and do you sell them? Noisy, are I?
Judy, hope Kassie responds to the medicine. Good new, John, on being able to return to work.
Etta Sue I am glad to hear the good news about Iva Lou and you great news about your Interstim therapy and the medicine.
Larry Sorry to hear that Pat's foot is giving her so much trouble. How is stacey doing?
Judy sorry to hear that Kassie is sick, I hope she gets better soon.
Liz that is such a terrible thing and so invasive of ones privacy. I'm sure Wendy feels so violated.
Don The thieves will get what they deserve one of these days. Have you thought about a guard dog? Or staying up to catch them?
Don is there any way of taking them in at night to prevent the thievery? I understand you having to be careful. A dog might help but the problem with that is if the dog were to bight someone stealing then you can be charged....may not be a good idea.
Well the men are here working on getting the wood out of the bush. Looks like we will make it after all.
Have a good day and I will be back later.
What a variety of emotions here today! Some good news, some bad news, some anger and some worries. But overall, we know that our God is in control, whatever the situation.
And I add my loud AMEN to that, Jeanne. :)
One of my least favorite things to do as a widow is get my car worked on. While they ran the computer analysis I ate at Bob Evans. I knew that was going to be $101. Then when I got back he said the computer analysis said the cause for the light to come on was a misfire. Well, I told him I noticed it after I tried to start the car and my thumb slipped off the key and I tried to start it again real quick. My thinking...that is a misfire! Then he showed me an estimate of what all needed to be done on the car...spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, oil filter, pcv or pvc something or other and something else and including the analysis it would be $506!! I told him no way. I have more important things to do than that. He said it really needs to be done to make your car run better. I told him the car runs fine...just the check engine light came on after I tried to start it and my thumb slipped off and I started it again!! And besides I didn't have that kind of money. Then he told me they have a payment plan. I got a little testy. I told him...Look, I am not doing that today. I will pay for the computer analysis but nothing else.
Now if the check engine light comes on again in the next month, THEN I will get it checked again by someone else! I think they think...here comes an old woman...let's see what we can sucker her into!!
Ivalou is still improving! Today she had a bacon cheeseburger, potato salad, banana and iced tea for lunch. And she is speaking in sentences...takes awhile but she gets it out!! Thank you God!
Lauren, her granddaughter, came back today with her sister and Dad. She looks soooo good. Surgery for her is next Tuesday!
Darrel and I are both so weary this evening we can barely function. Oh, how glad and relieved we will be when this auction is over with!!
Liz, that's a shame about the kids' suitcases. We have learned not to take any valuables with us that we can't keep in our posession at all times. We don't even take pricey clothes (don't have any!) :) But....that does NOT excuse thievery!! Nobody has a right to take another's personal posessions. Same goes for Don's hanging baskets. Why can't people just be honest?? :clobber:
Abby is here until sometime tomorrow. She has been pretty good--I know her parents gave her a good "talking-to" about the way she has been treating us lately. Why do they have to go through this snotty teenager stage? My adorable little girl whom I enjoyed so much, just changed overnight, it seemed. Sigh.... :-\ I hope she changes back to the sweet girl we had, and SOON.
Etta Sue, I am delighted to hear how well Iva Lou is doing, and that your med is working so you are doing great, too. God is good.
I went to see Beth and Mom a while ago. Beth wanted me to order her a pizza---then go get it---then feed her.....so it took longer than I had planned. It wouldn't matter, and doesn't matter....it's just that I am so tired.
I will probably take my laptop with me to my painting class, but do not know if I will have internet access, so you may not hear from me until next weekend. Maybe I can get rested up a little while I am away.
Etta Sue, I just had to come back and tell you that the check engine light on our Mercury came on; Darrel had it checked, the guy said just don't worry about it; if the car starts and runs, then it's nothing to sweat. It will go off for a few days, then come back on.....the man said he could do all kinds of stuff, charge us a bundle (like the guy wants to do to you!) but it wouldn't help. So if I were you, as long as the car runds fine, and starts fine, just live with it. I feel the same as you, they do sometimes try to take advantage of women alone. And that stinks!
Goodness our check engine lte has been on for nearly a year and we have never checked it out. We asked a few questions and decided that tit was nothing we could pay for at this time in our lives. Van still runs.
I slept half the evening away. Going to watch a movie and then to bed.
Hi, friends, I've enjoyed catching up once again. And, I'll be praying for the needs expressed.
I, too, am both an MRSA and a cellulitis survivor. What difficulties can be caused by this illness.
May God comfort and care for each of us.
Etta Sue, if the check engine light is on steady don't worry about it. It's when it's a blinking light that it needs looking into. Mine has spells where it comes on for a few days for no reason and then just stops, again for no reason.
Hi everyone. I am up and ready for church. Pat still isn't feeling like getting out, at least she indicated last evening she wouldn't be attending church today, and she is still asleep. Yesterday she set up her portable CD player by her easy chair so she could have her foot up and listen to her book on tape while I watched the football games. However, everytime she started to listen she would fall asleep.
A couple of days ago I ordered her a new netbook computer with a 12 inch screen. It weighs about 3 pounds and she should be able to use it at her easy chair and not have to sit at her desk all evening as she has done for a number of years to play games on the computer and listen to her stories on CD. I hope this will work for her.
Yesterday morning when I came into my office and turned on my monitors, I found my big monitor was gone and would not power up. So this morning I took it out of my office, along with a printer that no longer works. So for awhile, until I can get another monitor, I will get along with one on my desk rather than two.
Etta Sue, I always had trouble with the check engine light on my Saturn and was told about the same thing that Jeanne mentioned to not worry about it. I had it checked a number of times and it would not show any codes as the cause and they would reset the sensor and the light would be gone. I first time it happened was when we got word my Mother was dying and we needed to get to Iowa asap. We started out and got north of Atlanta when the light came on. There was no time to get it to the garage since it seemed to be running fine and did throughout the trip. Sometimes all these lights and sensors as just an annoyance.
Marilyn, Stacey has now come down with a cold and we can barely understand her on the phone as her voice is so husky (probably not the right descriptive word). However, she called last evening to let us know she was OK.
Janet, it seems all young people go through these stages of development when they become sort of brats. I can even remember when I was growing up and into my early teenage years that I always had to correct the conversation or have something to say and then feeling badly about my actions after the fact. It is nice to know that these phases don't usually last forever. Sorry to read that you and Darrel are getting so tired. Enjoy your painting class and get some much needed rest this week.
Paul John enjoyed talking to you Friday. Thank you for that.
Kass was up bright and early, and has headed to Sunday School with a neighbour who go to our church. Elizabeth didn't quite make it so she will come to church with us.
Janet I am going through this stage with my girls as well. It is troublesome, but I am learning to pick my fights. It seems kids only "mouth off" in an atmosphere of safety. In public there is no that safety also there is an attitude of living up to the respect standards that they have learned through the years. It is a troublesome, confusing time in their lives, hang on tight it could be a rough ride. Remember the verse "When they are old......they will not depart.
It is interesting we are having a mortgage burning coming up in a couple of weeks. We are a very small congregation...35 families and they have done great things to cover this debt. They have also prayed for increase and now there are several families with children. The Friday after the Canadian Thanksgiving the youth starts. That gives something for everyone.
This is the day that the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Have a good Lords Day everyone. May you all feel his presence today.
I had to miss church this morning, have come down with something. Spent Saturday afternoon in the bed, can't remember the last time I did that.

Thanks Larry. Yes these are baskets we prepare and grow to sell. I don't buy anything to sell. I only sell what I grow.

Yes I know they will get what they deserve one day. I have thought about staying there but then if I caught them I would probably be the one that would have to go to jail. It's not worth the hassle, I'll let the Lord take care of it, they are his baskets anyway.

Too many to carry in, not enough hours in the day. Maybe I could find one big and bad enough to eat up all the evidence. Maybe a Lion or Tiger, but then I would probably be the one that gets eaten.

Good for you Etta Sue. I ran a garage of my own for 20 years and I just can't believe the prices they want to charge now. They don't repair anything now, just replace parts and half the time they replace the wrong parts. I really believe the general public has no idea how they are being ripped off today. JMHO
Hope everyone has a Blessed day.

The weather is still treating us nice! This has been a real 'Indian Summer'.......or is that a political reference needing change?
Janet, hang in there. For a long time my GD went thro' stages. Now I find her to be a bright, intelligent, kind and pleasant young woman. Come to think of it, we all seem to have many stages in our lives, some good, some, not so much! ;)
Don, sorry that you are ill. Your comment: "They don't repair anything now, just replace parts and half the time they replace the wrong parts" reminds me of our medical care here in BC.
A man was recently found in the hospital parking lot here in the valley, after having been dead for several days and not being noticed by the terrific security patrol. Of course we will never know why or how, since these things get buried, no pun intended. :-\
The kids suitcases contained empty boxes for someone else's camcorder and expensive things....so this person(s) was quite active in stealing. Hopefully it will show on the security cameras and they will be caught. Anyway, what goes around comes around, right?
Time to go and do something useful.
Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Sunday afternoon and my cousin & wife just left for home in Washington state with their van that contains everything they need. We drove them to the mountains yesterday and around the lake and so forth then back, an entire day. They took us out for Chinese dinner and that was so good - then we all went to early church and they really liked the sermon and the place we worship. It was wonderful to have them visit.
Don: Sorry that you are not well and wish you a quick recovery. Stealing is a dreadful crime.
Etta Sue: It sounds like you won't have to worry about the car light. Now to find an honest repair person.
It is a sunny, warm day here and the Broncos begin the game at 2 PM. Don needs a nap because he did all the driving yesterday and today could only hear about 60% of the service. We have just got to find an answer for him.
Janet needs a nap, too, before I head out for Fowler for the week. I took Abby to meet her Mom, came home and loaded my painting stuff in the car, read all the new posts here; now I still have time for a short nap before picking up my painting buddy, Dee. :)
Everybody have a God-blessed few days, okay?

It seems you all are in agreement with me on the 'check engine' light. I looked under the hood of the car and the engine was still there, so I 'checked the engine'! ;) But again if the car wasn't running right or perhaps if the light comes on again soon, I will have it checked but at my cousins car repair place up the road...not back at Tires Plus.
Today I went to church and Sunday School. Then the women of the church had a salad luncheon followed by one of ours talking about aprons. I do believe she had over 75 aprons and a little story on everyone of them that she showed us. Very enjoyable. And at the end she said she had a little poem about aprons that was given to her by Ruby Stevenson...my Mom! That was nice!
Then I went to the hospital. Ivalou is talking up a storm now. Sure, she can't get a word to come out sometimes but she shrugs her shoulders and says 'Oh, well!' And then laughs so hard that everyone in the room is laughing. There is no therapy on Sunday so she is still in her second room. Maybe tomorrow they will move her to Rehab. But she is a trooper. She still amazes me how she continues to improve a 100% every day!!
I am doing some laundry and I am telling myself...you are going to get to bed before midnight tonight! I didn't realize how tired I was until I was sitting quiet in church and a l m o s t dozed off!! ::)SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE SIN NO MORE
