Morning Devotional...

Evangelism: "I Gave It All Up!"

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. --2 Corinthians 5:17

I have been asked more than once what I gave up when I was converted and became a believing child of God. I was a young man, and I well remember that I gave up the hot and smelly rubber factory. I was making tires for an hourly wage, and I gave that up to follow Christ's call into Christian ministry and service.

As a youth I was scared of life and I was scared of death--and I gave that up. I was miserable and glum and unfulfilled--and I gave that up. I had selfish earthly and material ambitions that I could never have achieved--and I gave them up.

That forms the outline of the worthless things that I gave up. And I soon discovered that in Jesus Christ, God had given me everything that is worthwhile.

If God takes away from us the old, wrinkled, beat-up dollar bill we have clutched so desperately, it is only because He wants to exchange it for the whole Federal mint, the entire treasury! He is saying to us, "I have in store for you all the resources of heaven. Help yourself!" Jesus, Author of our Faith, pp. 49-50

"Why am I so hesitant to share the Gospel, Lord--when this is what I'm asking people to give up? Thank You for all we gain through our new life in Christ--in exchange for all the junk we give up! Amen."

Thank you Pat  for this weeks devotional.
The sunshine is beautiful today. Nothing much going on here though. I did do some artwork this morning  for a stationery that will be sent out to my group on Wednesday.

I think I may take a little nap this afternoon as I keep yawning now. I haven't been able to use my CPAP machine for more than a couple of hours because the moisture in the tubing is putting water into my mask. I sure do hope I get a new machine with an adjustable humidifier and get it soon. I go back to see my doctor on the 3rd for the results of all those x-rays I had. Since I started back onthe celebrex my back has stopped hurting..

Pat, a wonderful devotional.  Thanks!  (Hope your new filling holds up.)

Marilyn, I'm glad your back is feeling better and I sure hope you get the Cpap situation straightened out soon.

Hi everyone.

Pat thanks for the devotional thoughts for this week.  Sorry to read of the toothache.  I have a broken front tooth that will have to be removed but am protecting it as much as possible to keep it as long as possible.  I also have a big filling in one of my back teeth that I had a lost part of the filling replaced a few days ago and am trying to protect it.

Etta Sue, sure you will miss your brother and his wife while they are in Florida.  Will you be making a trip down to visit them after the first of the year?  Two inches of rain overnight is a lot of water.

I enjoyed a nice lunch today at a buffet and sure am not hungry this evening.  This afternoon I got a bluetooth device set up for Pat new cellphone.  It is hard for her to hold the phone to her ear for extended periods of time and some of the calls she has last quite awhile, especially with her sister.

Marilyn, I remember that Pat had a humidifier on her CPAP machine and it really helped her.  Glad your back is feeling better.

I know so well about the "protecting" the tooth, Larry.  This one today was my top right eyetooth and the partial plate attaches to it.

Oh well, hopefully it will last a few years and then I can go "toothless" in Guelph!  HAHAHAHA!

:)   Good LATE EVENING TO ALL AT C.P.   Well again it seems that we get so busy with helping the family that the weeks just fly by so  soon.It is so hard to think that we will be at the end of September and my wife and I cannot believe that our two oldest grandkids are going to  J.K. already.  My grand daughter only goes twice a week and my grandson goes 5 mornings a week and he loves it.  Today we had such a beautiful sunshiny day and it got up to around 28 Celsius so we will not complain.

Larry and Pat.  Hope you are both looking after each other.  How is your daughter doing?

Etta Sue.  Are you still as busy as ever I do hope that you are also not over doing it. How is your sisters health? :)

Pat thanks for the devotional and did you get the big hug that I sent to you when you and Paul were travelling around in the U.S.A.  Please say hi to Paul and I do hope that you are doing o.k. other than the trouble with your tooth.  God Bless SIS.

Judy B:  Hi to you all up north.  Hope all is well and it is not getting to cold.  Please say hi to John and all the kids.  All our love.   Gordon and Noreen.

To all others on C.P. may you all have a wonderful week and may the Lord give you all many opportunities to witness for him.Love in Christ.   Gordon and Noreen. :nanadance: :excited: :cp:

Hi everyone.  It is still dark outside and I am getting a fairly early start here after a good nights sleep.  This should be  a reasonable quiet day.  I plan on going over to the AT&T Support center, that is fairly close by, and ask them to help get a software update installed on my phone.  Every time I try it fails and then I am locked out by AT&T for another 24 hours before I can try again.  Hopefully they have tools that will override this problem.  I have no idea what the update involves but received a notice on my phone to do the update.  I have a meeting to attend the morning and plan to walk some more after coffee as my hips didn't ache all night after walking yesterday morning.  Pat seems to be feeling some better and seems to be getting around the house better than for quite a few days.

Gord, nice to see your posting.  Our daughter isn't doing great as has now apparently sprained her good foot while just standing in her kitchen.  She is working on getting some home health care to help prepare meals for her.  She has been in so much pain over the weekend and then with the sprain that she hasn't slept well.  It seems like it is just one problem after another with her. She is also working on trying to get approved for a new electric power chair.  Pat has been suffering a lot the last few weeks but I have been doing well.  Hope you and Noreen are also doing well.  I know from your postings that you are enjoying those grandchildren.

Pat, I already have the "flipper" available to use when I use the front tooth.  It is a little partial plate that serves a cosmetic purpose so I won't appear with a gap in my front teeth.  Our dentist left his practice a few days ago and moved to the East coast to reunite his family.  So we have to get used to another new dentist.  The interesting thing is that his last name is Patel and the new dentist that has joined the other two dentists in this practice is also named Patel.

Hope all enjoy a nice day.  I sure plan to do so.

:)  Larry:  Thanks for the fast reply.  Yes we are having a wonderful time with our grand children.  Could you all continue to pray for both of us as we are still having back pains but of course Noreen's is the worst. I also seem to be having a lot of pain in my left hip and it is arthritis and my mother has rheumatoid arthritis so the last x-ray showed it in my hip ball join

Cold not sleep good last night and have already woke up twice and this is the 3rd. time so I thought I would look at the computer to see who was up early.   :coffee:

Have a good and blessed day.    Gordon and  Noreen. :cp:

Good morning everyone.

Gord, it's always good to see a post from you.  What is J.K. where your grandchildren are going?  I'm so sorry to hear about the pain you and Noreen are having.   :(

Larry, what a time your poor daughter is having!  I'm glad to hear that you were able to take that long walk yesterday without having repercussions, and also glad that Pat seems to be a little better.

Ivalou and I just got home from eating with the Senior group at church.  Today it was at La Cascade...a new Mexican restaurant near the hospital in Noblesville.  First we went to the rehab center.  Ivalou had an appointment at 9 for a half-hour.  I did my water-cizing for an hour.  We had time to kill until going to the restaurant.

There is a fairly new Dollar General at Noblesville.  Nice big store.  10 long aisles.  I didn't have a thing I needed but came out with three bags full of stuff.  We still had time to waste so I drove to the restaurant and we sat in the car until we saw someone from church.  Nice restaurant and good food.

Now I am so tired.  I need to do some laundry but I think I will take a nap and do laundry later!

It has been poring rain here for the past 45 minutes.

Fortunately I mowed the lawn this morning while Everett and a friend brought in two wagon loads of wood.... then I warmed up a stir fry, made a salad and tried to unfreeze an apple pie. All was well except I had to put the apple pie in the microwave for a minute or so.

Good to see you Gord ...... say hello to Noreen, for me!!

Etta Sue: I know the temptations of a Dollar Store. I go in for one item and come out with more!!! Thankfully they are an hour away and I don't get to them often.

Greetings to everyone... I have a lot of bookkeeping to do and should get at it as I have a house-load of visitors coming next week.

Hello, everyone!  Good to read all your news.

We are leaving very early in the morning, so this will be my last post until we get back, unless I decide to take this machine along with me.  We will be home on the 5th of October, and are supposed to come home to a new bathroom, laundry room and the other bathroom being finished, too!  We will see...... :-\

God bless you all and I will check in when I can.

We will miss you, Janet.  I pray your workers will get MUCH done, and you can come back to more of a semblance of order!
We had a "planned" power outage today.  They put up about 10 or 12 new poles and moved all the wires to them, and the power came back on about 10 minutes or so ago.  Thankfully, because Marbeth uses a CPap machine, and it makes it much harder for her to sleep if it isn't working.  So - thank You, Lord!  It was off since about 8 this morning.

It's so nice to read all of your posts.

I was at the dentist yesterday and it "sure hit a nerve" and I was "out of it" for the rest of the evening.

The weather has been lovely and we had been promised rain and thunder storms most of the week but none yet except for some drizzle (liquid sunshine as they say in Northern Ireland).

Well, good morning to y'all. It's our shopping day at Winco.  It's like a big warehouse, and it saves about 20 percent overall.  So we get about 95 percent of our groceries there.  It's in Eureka, and it is about 15 miles from here.  They think we have too much money, so we have to go there and pour out some of it every week.

When visiting Paul's brother in Portland, we shopped at Winco, Alan.  I was so impressed by that huge supermarket.  They live in Hillsboro.

Where did Janet go this time?  My mind is blank!

I had a nice nap yesterday.  I don't know if it was the full belly or the pool took my energy but I almost fell into the spare bed.  I woke up refreshed.

I still wasn't hungry so I fixed a bagel with cream chesse and watched TV.

Bed was early.  While trying to go into la-la-land, I remembered that I had forgotten to cash a check that I got from my supplemental insurance where they overpaid someone.  Why I got the check, I don't know.

So I got up this morning and went to Lapel and cashed the check.  Then ate breakfast at Woody's.  Since coming home I have read my devotions, walked in the house 12½ minutes and have done my home exercises.  Now I am tired again.   :-[

I don't know what the rest of the day will be.  Easy, I bet!

Another typical fall day but without sunshine.

Pat, hope your "nerve" is much better today. A cap fell off one of my teeth, so I think I must call today to get an appointment with the dentist - there's a "nerve" in that one, too.  :o

Good news from lab and x-ray tests, so that's great! I think I must "keep on keeping on" :)

My daughter begged me not to come to the funeral since it would have required driving several hours with my foot in this cast. So, we agreed I'd send flowers and condolences instead.

Y'all take care, now, ye hear!

We are still having very warm weather and we are enjoying it very much.

Pat:  Hi there!  How are you and Paul faring these days?  Sorry about your dental visit and pain and it is a good thing it didn't act up on your long trip.

Marilyn:  Beautiful scenery as always.

Larry:  Hugs all around to you, Pat and Stacey.  I really hope that she can get the meals delivered or fixed for her.

I am so sleepy because of a late quilt meeting last night.  It was both fun and sad because a supply of fabric belonging to a master quilter who died last month was given to all of us to take what we wanted.  Since I am so new, I really felt odd about taking anything but did and will try to mend a broken ruler no one wanted.   We did have some good laughs and could almost hear Barbara's great laugh as we sat around and looked over her precise workmanship.  She would have loved sharing, we all know that.  I even found fabric that I gave to her as she liked it and wanted to finish my circles - so now I have to do something.

Then, up early to make corn muffins for a big gang at Bible Study - baking by 6 AM today.  Tomorrow is our anniversary and we can barely take time for anything - then Don has another VA appointment.

Gord:  Volunteering for the Kidney Foundation is really wonderful.  I know you must have enjoyed your evening and am glad that you two are feeling good to get out for that dinner.

The day has flown by and it is late in the afternoon.  Pat and I attended Bible study this morning and then went with the group to Dunkin" Donuts.  We then stopped by a specialty shoe shoe to pick up diabetic socks for our daughter and finally to a place for lunch.  This evening I have choir practice so it will have been a full day.

Pat, hope you are feeling much better today as see you posted last evening.  Hope the nerve has settled down.

Al, sure good to know you have a place to leave your money.  :)

Etta Sue, you are not the only one wondering about Janet's travels.

Ruth Ann, always good to get the right type of news from medical tests.

Gord, those thank you dinner for working with volunteer organizations are a very nice thing.

Marilyn, nice you could be with Nita and Jane today.  It is always fund to do things with friends.  I have downloaded the page with your photos and will check them out in a little bit when I get caught up on the message boards for today.

Carol, Stacey is working to get a number of things worked out including getting a new wheelchair.  I also hope she can get the home health care worked out soon as I know she doesn't eat properly relying on already prepared foods or something easy and quick.  Your comments on the distribution of your quilting friends material after her passing is something I really hadn't thought about but would be a good idea under such circumstances.  What could please a quilter more than knowing her quilting materials and supplies are going to be in the hands of people who will appreciate them and get some good out of them.

I had a surprise this morning.  Tony, my son, called.  He wanted to know if I was going to be home.  Yes.  Are you not working today?  He was on vacation so rode his cycle to see.  Great to see him.  While we were talking he asked me if I had the blue and white quilt he had when he was little.  Yes.  I embroidered 'Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep' squares and my Mom put it together and machine quilted it.  I gave it to him.  He will be happy to show his step-kids and step-grands the quilt his Mom and Grandma made him when he was little.

He also took the baby boy afghan I made for his to-be step-grandson.  Charlene is going to Troy, Michigan, when the baby is born and will take it to them for me.

A friend on Facebook that attends church with me said she was learning crocheting.  I told her I would help her if she gets in a rut.  Then she suggested a Crochet group at church.  I think I could teach crocheting.  I still have the Learn How book I got 50 years ago when I learned.  It is still sold in the stores!!  I guess there isn't much new to crocheting.

Not much going today here.  Bright and sunny right now but suppose to rain later.  The trees across the field are turning fall colors.  Going to be a pretty fall!

Lauren, my great-niece, that had breast cancer at age 22 gave a talk at her old high school during a 'Volley for the Cure' volleyball game.  You can see her and hear her

I am just back from the Podiatrist and I have a huge  bandage on my right foot big toe, He dug out a  very big chunk of an ingrown toenail. No wonder my toe has been hurting for over a month. I thought it was my shoes causing the pain. He put two shots of  numbing agent in and  think it is starting to wear off.

Hi everyone.  Again a bit late in the day.  It has been a busy one so far.  I left shortly after getting back from coffee to drive to Atlanta as had an 11 am appointment to have the pacemaker checked.  I got there on time and the tech had me out of there shortly after 11.  It is approaching the point it is going to require replacement but she said it should be fine for another three months.  I won't be having it checked at this facility again as Kaiser is stopping their relationship with them in December.  I then went over and picked up Stacey and brought her out to spend the night.  We got back to the house and picked up Pat and we went to new eating place for lunch.  It was almost 3 pm before we got home.  I then had a nice nap as was beat.  I will take Stacey home probably tomorrow afternoon.  Her sprained foot is better but she still isn't able to walk more than a couple of steps.  She uses the transport chair and a cane to go backward in the house to get around.

Marilyn, I can relate to your ingrown toenail situation.  I had that done on both of my big toes at the same time several years ago.  It wasn't fun but it sure helped.

Etta Sue, your son's visit was a nice surprise for you.  I am sure it warmed your heart to give him the quilt and afghan.

Ruth V, Judy's surgery should be over for her now and the recovery begins.

JudyB:   Prayers for a quick recovery.  Take your time and try to not do too much.

Etta Sue:  It is just lovely that your son thought of his blanket and wanted to keep it with him - very nice memory for him.

I had a class on the iPad and was able to keep up so that is good.  Don sat in the car and read a book and then drove us to a little fish market/cafe.  We had seafood salads for our anniversary tonight.  Kids have called, sent cards & they send too many gift cards but we used one tonight.  Don has eye scan at the VA tomorrow so that is the third appt. in two weeks - long day again tomorrow.

Larry:  Sprains take a long time to mend - bless Stacey.

Awaiting time to go to the Senior Center for men's Friday coffee.  We have several men who attend on Friday that do not join us at McDonald's daily.  The big activity of the day will be taking our daughter home later in the day.  We usually go back with much more than we came with and this time will be no exception.  Sometimes I can find a grocery cart at her apartment house to use to transport what we take back but will also have the transport chair and that works well to carry heavy and bulky things.  We also have to deal with crutches, which are not the easiest things to handle.  I did go to Wal-Mart last evening to get somethings she needed and somethings that Pat needed.  I think I called Pat three times while shopping to confer.  Having the cellphone is really handy.

Judy, I was hoping we would see a message from or about how you were doing.  Glad that is over for you and shortly you will be able to begin your rehab.

Carol, you didn't say whether you learned anything in your iPad class.  It should come in handy as you wait for Don on his medical appointments.

Hi, friends, I've been working on a data analysis project for the church. How nice it is to be able to use skills developed before retirement to furher the workings of the church.

Other than that, I'm kinda tired, so won't stay on long.

Much love to everyone,
Ruth Ann

Ivalou called me at 7:30 this morning saying she just had a call from Rehab and Jacquie called in sick so Ivalou couldn't do swim rehab at 9:30.  But Jen said she could work Ivalou in at 9am.  So we left a half hour earlier.  I was in the water an hour so Ivalou had to wait on me today.

Then we went to Big Lots.  Ivalou had never been there before so she enjoyed seeing what all they have.  It's a store of discounts...just about everything other than refrigerated or freezer items.  Sofas to baby clothes!

After that we went to Jim Dandy...a local restaurant.  I think it was old folks day.  Other than one woman and her two small daughters, I think I was the youngest.  Then we realize the two little girls' grandma is a waitress.  I got an email from Jim Dandy yesterday with a printable 20% off coupon.  So Ivalou and I used them for our lunch buffet.

Got some laundry in the dryer and now time to rest.  I think I over did it in the water today!

Hi everyone.  I got Stacey back to her apartment this morning and then stopped at Walmart to return two of the items I bought yesterday. I also got a broasted chicken for dinner tonight.  I came home and unloaded the transport chair and put the boxes and cooler back in the car.  Had a bite of lunch and then rested for about ninety minutes.  I am still feeling the effects of the day and will likely go to bed early tonight.

Marilyn, congratulations on the new great grandson.  You are ahead of us as we only have five great grandchildren.

Etta Sue, we have several Big Lots stores out this way including one about 4 miles up the road.  I don't stop there very often.  Sounds like a good restaurant you went to today and the coupon is always helpful.

Judy, are Pat and Paul driving you home later today?  Nice to see your posting.  Hope the pain isn't too bad.  You do very well with the one-hand typing.

Ruth Ann, I think I have pretty well lost some of my work related skills.  I try to keep things simple now.

Larry John was down with me the whole time.  The pain is tolerable and I will be cutting back on the pain meds soon. They do nasty things to my digestion.

I'm on my cell have to pick up puter from Heather then home.  I've read most of the posts and will comment tomorrow.

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee and plan on staying home the rest of the day.  I have been running here and there everyday this week and just need a decompression day so am treating myself to one.

Judy, sure you are more comfortable at home.  Glad John was with you.

It is a nice fall type day here this morning.  It was 50 degrees when I went to coffee and my fleece-lined sweater feels mighty good this morning.  It is suppose to get up to 68 degrees this afternoon.

I had better watch myself today.  I always fix two cups of coffee in my coffee maker.  I went to get the second cup....but poured it in the sink instead of my cup!!  So I am running on one cup today!

I don't know what is wrong with this laptop.  I type and then a second later it shows on the screen.  Must be a keyboard problem but I don't know what to do about it!  Frustrating.  Also I work a Daily Jigsaw puzzle where you click and drag the puzzle pieces.  I click and drag....then the piece follows...sometimes.  I sent an email to Shockwave but no answer yet!  I re-installed Shockwave and the Flash Players...don't know what else to do.

Bright and sunny here today but cold.  I took out some letters to the mailbox and even though I was bundled up, I sure didn't mosey!  I think it is only 43 degrees now but colder when I got up.  Frost advisory tomorrow morning!!

I checked Market on my Droid.  I searched for 'Pedometer' and sure enough there is one.  It shows steps, miles, steps/minute, mph and calories burnt.  And works when you leave it on and turn off your Droid!  I walked 17 minutes this morning in the house...  0.589 miles but only burnt 20 calories!

PRAYER REQUEST: Please pray for my friend Kitty Leftwich. She has spend the last month and a few days in the hospital. She was released from one hospital and is now in a different hospital in Isolation. She has some kind of infection the she picked up in the first hospital as well as a lung infection and Congestive Heart Failure. She is very swollen. and God knows the rest. Please pray for her. She called me this morning from the hospital, she is really scared. I prayed with  her on the phone and she asked that I put her prayer request online as well.

Also praying for Kitty... I am soooo thankful JudyB didn't have to spend time in the hospital. Two dear friends, recently, have spent time in the hospital, one has C. difficile and is quarantine and the other had to go back because a flu bug caused dehydration (she is fine now)

Hi everyone.  It is a cool but sunny morning here in Atlanta.  I just heard we are not to get above 70 this afternoon.  It was good sleeping weather last night and since this is Sunday I was able to sleep in a bit longer than usual.  Am ready for church and will leave in about an hour. I don't think Pat is going to go with me as her big toe is swollen and she can't get her shoe on.  She said this morning she things it may be gout.  She is going to have blood tests done this week so that will probably show up in the readings.  I enjoyed the quiet day I planned yesterday.  Other than church today and perhaps a trip to the grocery store later in the day as the freezer is looking pretty bare, I plan another quiet day.  Just hope the Atlanta Falcons can win their football game this afternoon.

Etta Sue, have you tried doing a system restore as that might solve the slowness problem.  It sounds like something is using up the cpu at 100% and this will cause the slowdown.  You can do a Cntl, Alt, Del at the same time and then click on the Start Task Manager link and under processes or one of the tabs you will see what percentage of the CPU is being used.

Marilyn, what a cute pictures of the new baby.  Sure is a chubby fellow.  My latest great grandson is also a bit chubby.  I will pray for your friend.  Hospitals, while necessary, are becoming a very dangerous place to be.

RuthV, better to stay out of the hospital if you can.

Hope everyone enjoys a nice day and Judy that you are feeling even better today.  Ruth Ann, no slipping please.  Hope you all have a wonderful church service.

Right now, it's raining lightly, with a little breeze.  Our forecast is for only mid 50's today, after a low of about 45 overnight.  My furnace has come on for the first time since I had it cleaned - and it sure feels good!   :D

We got a little rain and now the sun is  brightly shining, I hope it stays that way for a few hours at the least. it  is supposed to rain a lot later either tonight or starting tomorrow. we will see how right or wrong the weather guessers are.

Two weeks ago I got my furnace winter-ready, after shivering for a week.  Of course, that's when the temperatures went up into the upper 70's so I didn't need heat.  But this morning, with the temperture at 43 and raining, I was very glad to have it come on - and repeat a couple of times so far today.

Marilyn:  Nice picture of your new baby - will you be seeing this one soon?

Larry:  I did pick up more than a few points at the Apple Store & would like to go again.  The library may help me with this one -- downloading their eBooks to a Kindle app on the iPad.  Somehow, it takes me to Amazon & I don't want to pay for the book so don't understand that part yet.  Loads of free classic books out there.  Audio books are easy.

Ruth Ann:  Super that you can walk across the street to church.  My ideal - we are only five minutes to drive from our church so that does make me happy too.

We had  a great sermon on generosity this morning and a freebie book on a bible study of subject - my neighbor took the other free book that precedes this study so we can each read both books.  Don is watching a football game and his is not feeling up to going anyplace.   We did watch the high school kids from all over perform with their marching bands yesterday so he is still worn out and started a new medication today.  Oldest son drove us there and back to his house & our car and he has been so caring for us just as all the children.  We are so blessed.

Long day so far.  I ran the projector system at church today.  Then Sunday School.

I told the four ladies going with me to go home and I would go pick them up.  I did and we all went to Cracker Barrel at Anderson.

Then to Anderson University to see the musical 'I Love a Piano' by the chorale group at AU.  Eric, our pianist at church, is a Senior this year at AU and is majoring in music.  It was a great show.  Pretty much continuous medleys.  I was fine when the songs were loud and peppy but the slow ones, my eyes wouldn't stay open!!

I just got home at 5pm.

Once I get caught up online, I think this is a wonderful cool night for popcorn and a Dr. Pepper!!

Marilyn, it is just called 'Pedometer'.  The icon is a blue timer with white face and the 'hand' is a black foot.
