JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

Paul Meets Jesus
Acts 9:1-19a NLT

Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord's followers.  So he went to the high priest.  He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them—both men and women—back to Jerusalem in chains.

As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him.  He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?"

"Who are you, lord?" Saul asked.

And the voice replied, "I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!  Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

The men with Saul stood speechless, for they heard the sound of someone's voice but saw no one!   Saul picked himself up off the ground, but when he opened his eyes he was blind. So his companions led him by the hand to Damascus.   He remained there blind for three days and did not eat or drink.

Now there was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, calling, "Ananias!"

"Yes, Lord!" he replied.

The Lord said, "Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now.  I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming in and laying hands on him so he can see again."

"But Lord," exclaimed Ananias, "I've heard many people talk about the terrible things this man has done to the believers in Jerusalem!  And he is authorized by the leading priests to arrest everyone who calls upon your name."

But the Lord said, "Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.  And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name's sake."

So Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."  Instantly something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.  Afterward he ate some food and regained his strength.

What unusual events has God used to catch your attention?

As Paul traveled to Damascus, pursuing Christians, he was confronted by the risen Christ and brought face-to-face with the truth of the gospel.

Sometimes God breaks into a life in a spectacular manner, and sometimes conversion is a quiet experience.  Beware of people who insist that you must have a particular type of conversion experience.

The right way to come to faith in Jesus is whatever way God brings you.

Yesterday was a productive day for me.  I did some laundry.  Then I took my pruners out and cut down some lilacs that had died.  Needed to do this before all the leaves fell so I would know which ones were dead.  Then I decided to prune the big Maple behind my kitchen...the one the tree trimmer was to top.  I aired up the tires to my cart and loaded the cart to the brim with limbs and off to the woods.  I decided to mow since the grass was getting tall.

The big tree that fell soon after FROGGS is gone!  Well, some of the trunk is left but it is all cut up ready for a fireplace.  Jeff, my nephew, has really worked hard back there.  I unloaded my limbs and mowed coming back to the house.

I got the mail and decided I would mow the outer edges of the lane too and it would be all set for winter.

Someone gave me some old sweet corn.  I like to dry it and then shell it.  I put a few grains in my popcorn.  The sweet corn puffs up...doesn't pop open but makes a crunchy corn kernels...not hard like Corn Nuts, though.  So I found some containers and went to the deck.  I wore some old work gloves with the plastic dots on the palm side...made great shelling gloves!  I ended up with probably 4 quarts of corn.  Mom called it Parched Corn when cooked!

So then after a shower, I had popcorn and parched corn.

Great day!  Oh, yes!  When I came back in the house I had a message from Ivalou that she was going to her son's house.  No way would I have gone back to the woods if I had known no one was home up here by the house!!

Hi everyone.  Another overcast day and in viewing the weather this morning it looks like there is a possibility of some rain sometime today.  Nothing unusual about yesterday.  I really enjoyed the Georgia/Tennessee football game yesterday.  It was a close game with a lot of scoring and fortunately Georgia came out on top.  About nine pm last night Pat started having muscle spasms in her lower back and they kept her up most of the night.  I used the heavy duty massager we have and that seemed to help for a little while.  This morning she used the heat pad and that has also helped.  Hopefully this won't be such a miserable day for her as the night was.  I think she sat too long at the dining room table working a big 1000 piece zigsaw puzzle yesterday.  I did figure out how to be able to get library audio books on her Kindle Fire and she can download them directly to the Fire.  I probably will not attend church today as think I need to stay home and see if Pat needs anything that will help her.

Etta Sue, thanks for the devotional thoughts for this week.  I imagine you will miss having your brother there close-by. It seems like only a few weeks ago that they made their return to their home near you.  I don't think I ever heard of using old sweet corn with popcorn.

Marilyn, nice to read that your cold is doing better.  I don't think I would care to get raw garlic although have heard it is good for you.

Jeanne Lee

Thanks for the devotional this morning, Etta Sue.

It's dark, damp and dreary this morning here, too, Larry, but I think you'll be a bit warmer this afternoon than we will.   :)

We had a terrific service today and especially meaningful since we missed three weeks being away.  Fall has come to this area and it is crisp and cool as normal in the morning with warmth just when we need it - no air conditioning and no heat on right now.

The t.v. still tells us that tomorrow is "terrible traffic" day with downtown having the debates and the only freeway through the city being closed for six hours.  Plus, we also know of a lot of construction we ran into on Saturday so everyone might as well stay home.  Thankfully, the Broncos playing today - check those scores.  We have not seen winning numbers in such a long time.

Today's sermon was on win or lose as that is a big part of life for sure.

Etta Sue:  Thank you for devotions.  Glad you are enjoying your popped corn.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

Not too much to say. I've dealt with a bad headache today, so stayed in with a very quiet apartment. I'm thankful I live at the end of the hallway with no one occupying the apartment across the hall. So, it really WAS quiet. :)

Now to sign off for the evening. May our Lord bless us this day is my prayer.

Ruth Ann I  pray you will feel better.

I am feeling better today. Back to work at the clinic tomorrow.

Al, hope you have many more driving days ahead of you!

After reading the devotion I posted, I remembered when I accepted Christ.  It was late in my life...I was 55 when I was baptized.  I was like a sponge...couldn't get enough of Christ and the Bible.  I went to Alabama to visit a friend and one of her young friends was there.  I was telling her that I had joined Weigh Down Workshop....a biblical based program to lose weight.  I was telling her that the more I got into the program, the more I was growing closer to Christ than losing the weight.  She looked at me and said 'Seems like to me that you are using Christ the wrong way!  He isn't a weight losing tool!'  I was stunned.  My reply was, 'I didn't think there is a wrong way to come to Christ!'

That will always be in my mind and I hope I never tell anyone anything that might bring doubts to their mind about their journey with Christ.

Today I am taking Hawaii back to the dealership.  She is fine...just that when they worked on the AC, they ordered a shield that is a safety shield that goes between the AC unit and the motor so someone who may work on the car in the future can't get into the AC unit.  I didn't know that was needed and took a few days of telephoning back and forth to realize it was indeed for Hawaii!

Then this evening is Church Council meeting.  Oh, how I wish they would say that the commissioner in Hamilton County has okayed the drainage permit so that we may start our new church building.  What he said we needed to build a new church is un-called for!  He said we needed to purchase 4.5 more acres and put in a 3-acre pond for drainage....that's for the whole community of Clarksville...and at the expense of the church.  That is way more than the cost of our new church!!  Please pray with me that the permit that is proposed by the church is permitted!!

Other than me stating that I am sore from my tree trimming Saturday, I am super fine today!  I should be...I think I slept 15 out of the last 24 hours!!

Now I can officially say that ¾ of 2012 is behind us!!

Hi, friends, I'm much better today. Thank you for your prayers.

Al, my prayers go with you today.

My son will be taking a very important exam for his new job today or tomorrow, so I've been praying that our Lord will give him wisdom and power as he takes this exam.

It's time for me to take little Josie car in for some TLC, also. I'm certain her brakes need care, and also an alignment.

Well, I must go, so may our gracious and loving Lord grant us this day to live close to Him and serve others.

Hi everyone.  We have a very rainy day after an rainy night and the possibility of strong winds and tornados later this afternoon in the area as we are under a watch until 9 pm.  I am happy to be able to write that Pat's back spasms seem to have passed and she got to feeling better yesterday and seems ok today.  I spent the morning working on getting the bills paid and records up-to-date.  Today was my Monday men's luncheon and went are to Wild Wings.

Jeanne and Carol, it sounds like fall is hitting areas with the cooler temps.

Carol, Denver had a good game yesterday.  I watched the early part of it but changed games when it was obvious they were winning big.  The Falcon's had a close call but were able to end of a winner again.  I wonder why those debates couldn't be held in D.C. or somewhere that it wouldn't cause such havoc to the traffic?

Ruth Ann, where Stace was living there were always doors slamming and she trouble with people playing music too loud or having arguments during the night.  She is much happier where she is now living.  Glad to read that the  headache is gone today.

Marilyn, glad you are feeling better.

Al, I scanned down to see if you had posted about passing your driving exam.  I hope no news is good news.

Etta Sue, it looks like if the part was a needed on the car it should have come as original equipment.  Hope you got your car fixed.  It sounds like your church may have to take the case to court as it sounds like one person is trying to call all the shots.

Al Moak

Praise our God!  I just got back from the driving test - and I passed!  Thanks be to God which giveth us the victory!

Betty

Hurray! I'm glad to hear it, Al. I've been praying for you.

We've been away on a camping trip to the Atlantic provinces. It was a wonderful trip, and we really enjoyed looking at God's creation. Now to settle into retirement.

Hi everyone.  It is a beautiful sunny morning after a very rainy night with some extremely heavy rain.  Fortunately we didn't lose power during the night.  As soon as Pat is ready we are going to go back to Steak and Shake for breakfast.  Now that I don't go to coffee on Tuesdays and Thursdays if give us the opportunity to go out for breakfast.  I won't have what I had last time as it was too much to eat although it was very tasty.  I may attend a meeting this morning but that will probably be it for today.

Al, that is indeed good news about the driving test and now you have wheels again and won't have to depend on someone else.

Betty, your camping trip sounds like a nice way to start your retirement life.

Jane Walker

Great news, indeed, Al!   I know you are pleased these continuing tests are done and over with.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Praise the Lord, Al!  Even if you only drive short trips, it gives you independence to not rely on others.

Ivalou's blood work was fine for the potassium...right in the norm.  Her mammogram was great.  Her bone density is fine.  But she needs to see a specialist about her rotor cuff tear.  She is on Coumadin so that is a problem but I also know that things are so much better and easier today than even a few years ago!  It would be wonderful if she didn't have that sudden pain in her arm that causes her to almost cry! The nurse's office was to call her back to tell her when her appointment will be.  I haven't heard.

Yesterday I did get Hawaii fixed.  It seems when they replaced the AC condenser that they broke a bolt or something on the old shield so that's why they had to get a new one.

And yes, the church has hired a lawyer to go to Mr. Ward and see if he can get him to change his mind!  He has had dealings with Mr. Ward before and won all of them!!  That is encouraging.  But when that will happen, I don't know!  Hamilton County is a rich county with lots and lots of new buildings, house, businesses and churches.  We have been told if we had purchased land 2 miles east in Madison County, we would already be in a new church building!!  God will either open the door or close it permanently!

It is rainy and hazy and cloudy and overcast today!  A great day to stay put inside these walls.  And that, I will do!....until I put out the trash this evening and get the mail!

Larry:  So glad that your Pat is feeling better.  Ruth Ann:  Your headache is gone!  Keep us posted about your son -- we all wish him the very best on his test.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank every one of you who prayed about the driving test.  Our Father heard you and sent His blessing!

Marilyn

Feeling a little bit better today, but this  cold is sure hanging on.

Congratulations Al

Hi everyone.  It is dark outside but think it will be another nice day.  Pat finished up her therapy yesterday when both she and the therapist agreed that she really wasn't making any more progress.  She had 16 therapy treatments.  Today should be a light schedule.  I will go to coffee at McDonald's shortly and may go to Bible study after that.  I have no idea yet whether Pat will be up to going or not.  Then the rest of the day I will rest and hopefully stay home.  We do plan to watch the debate tonight.

Etta Sue, glad you got your car repaired and it makes more sense now that they were replacing a broken part and not putting in something new.  Hope the lawyer for your church is successful and you don't have to move to another county.

Ruth Ann, we will be waiting to hear good results from your son's test today.

Hope this is a good day for all who pass by this way today.

Etta Sue

I was woke by the phone this morning.  It was my Urology office calling saying that the doctor will be out of the office Oct 17 and did I want to reschedule my appointment?  I know she has no idea what I see him about.  She said she would reschedule me for Nov 30.  I hung up and thought a couple of more weeks will be okay....then realized that is six weeks later!!  So I called my office in Noblesville...the extension I had was for the nurse.  I left a message telling her my problem and for her to have the receptionist call me.  Then I found the receptionist number.  I called her.  She is new and said that Dr. Knapp was scheduled solid and no way could I get in before the 30th of November!  Then the nurse called me...new nurse...Wanda, the one I think forgot the numbing solution the last time doesn't work there anymore!!  Wonder why?  So explained to Linda what and why I needed to see a doctor that does Botox earlier than Nov 30.  She said she would see what she could do and would call me back...yeah, right!  Famous last words.   :-\

But within 10 minutes she did call back and they are squeezing me in Oct. 26th!   :D   What a nurse!   <3  Now it is only a week later instead of 6 weeks later!   :cheer:  I think I will schedule for 6 months this next time instead of 7 months!  My bladder is telling me 6 months is enough!

Today my plans are to go to the pool.  Then get some cat food at Pet Supply, then to Walmart.  This evening I need to make a salad to take to a funeral dinner tomorrow afternoon.

Don't forget to watch the debates this evening!!

I'll be out of the apartment, but am taping the debate to watch later this evening.

My son passed his test. Thank you all for praying and praise and adoration of our Lord for answers to prayer.

Much love to all,

Great news about tests being passed !

Yes, we are sure to watch the debates.  It still amazes me that so many people interviewed on the street just do not know anything and apparently do not care.  We had a phone call from our neighbor who is battling cancer and he felt good and wanted to go out for a mexican dinner.  So, we dropped everything and said, sure!  He is eating well and feeling well but had to go back on the stronger chemo probably forever.

Larry:  Sorry that Pat isn't making progress after so many appointments.  Perhaps there are exercises she can do right at home?  Our weather is changing right now and it is chilly outdoors but the house is still too hot - tomorrow is another situation and perhaps the heat will be turned on in the morning.

Etta Sue:  Great that you have your schedule the way you need it now.

Ruth Ann Bice

Tomorrow's a very busy day, so don't know if I'll get back in for a day or two, but will check in as soon as I can.

Love y'all,
Ruth Ann

I am not one to watch the news...too much doom and gloom...but I did watch the debate!  I think Mitt came out with great answers and ideas and Obama was befuddled with surprise of how articulate Mitt is!  Keep up the great, fantastic work Mitt!

I accomplished all I set out to do yesterday...now to start today!

First, Ivalou and I are getting our haircut.  Then we will get us a fast lunch probably at Hardee's.  Then we want to go to a funeral visitation.  I will bring Ivalou home, get my salad from the fridge and go to the church to work the funeral late lunch/early dinner.  These dinners always bring a smile to my heart.  Such a needed occasion for the family to un-wind.

Then it will be home to un-wind myself.

Tomorrow Kitty and I want to go to Riley Days at Greenfield, IN.  It's festival time in Indiana.  If it is raining, then we will find something to do..we are just planning a day together!
