Title: Setting up your personal avatar?
Post by: Jim D on August 05, 2006, 01:44:01 AM
When I first joined CP, I had a "monk" avatar to the left of all my posts, but it disappeared (for some reason?) several weeks ago. I just now spent 15 min. or so looking around this site for instructions on how to  d/l an avatar but couldn't find any anywhere, including in my profile area.

Could someone please tell me how? I'm using Mozilla's browser, if that matters, but also have IE on this computer. Thanks!

If I understand your request, in the upper right, click profile, then select "forum profile information".  There you have the choice to upload a personal avatar from either a URL or from your harddrive or to use one of the preselected ones.  Then save that information.

Regarding the size of the avatar, I'm not real sure, but generally most sites the avatar is about 75X75 pixels up to 100X100 pixels and limited in file size, so you would need to make those adjustments to an image prior to uploading your own personal.

Thanks for your response, ohenry. I tried that but it still didn't work, until it dawned on me that I needed to go into PS & change it from a "psd" to a "jpeg", and now it seems to be ok again.

Actually it's supposed to move a little too. Is there some other file designation that I still need to change it to, so his tassle will be animated?

Thanks,
Jim/UHS

Yes.  It has to be a .gif format for automation, I believe

Ok, thanks Carl. I changed it to a .gif, but maybe gifs don't work on this site? PS gave me the options of "dithered" or "undithered" (28, 64, or 128), so not knowing what all that means, I randomly selected "dithered 64". It still isn't animated, so I probably chose the wrong one?
Thanks again,
Jim/UHS

I've exhausted my knowledge of automated avatars...lol...I'll leave it up to someone that might actually know the answer ;)

No problem, Carl. It's not that important; just something I'd like to learn how to do. I'm glad I have my av' back up again anyway!
Thank you for your concerned responses.  :)
