Turkey Patties with Fennel

Fennel seeds lend zip to these tasty sausage patties.  if you lik, you can substitute 2 tablespoons whole wheat bread crumbs for the chopped nuts to make this a Phase 2 recipe.

• 1 pound 99% fat free ground turkey breast
• 1/4 onion, grated
• 1 egg, beaten
• 2 tablespoons finely chopped pecans
• 1/4 teaspoon fennel seeds, finely crushed

In a bowl, combine the turkey, onion, egg, pecans, and fennel.  Shape the turkey mixture into 8 patties.

Heat a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat for 1 minute.  Working in batches if necessary, add the patties and cook for 5 miutes on each sied, or until a thermometer inserted in the center of a patty registers 165F and the meat is no longer pink.

Makes 8 patties

What is fennel?  Where is it in the store? 

Fennel Seeds

You can find it in the seed area of the grocery store. I have fennel tea and it is very good. 

Doesn't it look similar to fresh dill, Soni?  I haven't bought it for awhile.  But I think you'll find it near to all the fresh herbs as well as in the spices area where the dried ones are.

Fennel is found near the celery.

Very good, nice licorce taste --sometimes called anise.

I am so glad we discussed this or I would have bought the dried seeds. LOL

had to leave before I finished.

I eat it like you would celery --raw --some people cook it with
onions; they like that taste.

I cut the raw one in with salads  - glad I have some at home;
I am craving some now !!!

I use to put ground fennel seed in warm water for my daughter
when she was colicky and it seemed to soothe her stomach.

Kind of like jello water for upset tummies.

Joyce, I also used the fennel tea for my lila mae.  She was very collicky.  It helped some.

Hmmmm!  I like licorice.  Will check this out the next visit to my grocery!!!

I went and bought some today.  Strange looking vegie.

I you sure we use the fresh?  If it is 1/4 teaspoon you would think it meant dried. hmmm...I was really wanting to make this..I will wait.

I would say in this case that it's the seeds--dried seeds.
