Good photos-so what is the name of the second bird? I love to bird watch so I like seeing different pictures of birds/

The second one is a male house finch, Melody.

I just put up this new feeding station so the old crowd is still a little leery of it.  I figure in another week, they'll be back in full force.  I get a pretty good assortment:  mockingbirds, gold finch, house finch, starlings, woodpeckers, cowbirds, LOTS of variety.

We have finches and blue jays around here but I don't know what a cowbird is. If you capture one on photo you will have to share here.

Hey thanks for sharing. We do not have any of these kinds of birds around here. They are quite different.

To be honest, until I took up photography about a year and a half ago, I probably wouldn't know WHAT they were and called them a grackle.  What part of the country are you in?  Author, Stan Tekiela, has written a field guide for every state.  They're not your typical guide that has idealized drawings of what a bird SHOULD look like.  He takes photos of them and (here's the cool part) the book is divided by the main color of the bird.  It's a snap to do a quick look-up.  I picked my copy at a Wild Birds, Unlimited store but, you can get them on Amazon... cheaper there too.

I live in Canada but that sounds like a good book
