Nice shot Kevin!
I would say from reading on wikipedia that this one is a female, am I right?

Thanks, Don. This is the male. The female is a kind of brownish gray, and is pretty shy. Here's a nice photo (not mine) of the female.

By the way, I shot this with the 40D & EF 400 F5.6L
What detail you got in that one!
Very nice and sharp. I like the bamboo perch; it adds contrast.

The first this season.
You say this season....What season is it for you!
Lovely image - and so nice for him to pose for you.
Becky
Aww, he's cute!
Good job.

What a very nice detailed shot!!! Is that the first of the fall season? We have juncos which showed up bout 3-4 weeks ago...I was taken by surprise...I thought they didn't get here (NE OH) til Dec... :)
Excellent shot Don mybcjazz. The portrait style photo really works with the birds pose and perch and the wide 'open space' that you have left around the bird works beautifully.
I am envious of your gear! ;) I would like to have the exact same set-up but would swap the prime for a 100-400.
Thankyou for posting this, it is a beautiful bird.
Thanks for giving me credit for that great shot Sarge but I am afraid it wasn't mine. :'(
I fixed it for you. :)
