Surprised me in a bayou near Bossier City, while I was looking for something else.

Those are great. We have a fair number of egrets around here also. They are absolutely beautiful in flight.
I've seen that. Large flocks of them sometimes make a coordinated turn, and the change in reflectivity is striking to see. They are just beautiful.
Last spring, one showed up in the creek where I walk, and two kildeer went berserk with anger over it, dive bombing and threatening the much larger bird until it fled. I suppose they had a nest somewhere.
