1/640th of a second shutter speed not quite fast enough to freeze the wing motion...

I see lots of these around flowers. I am surprised how many people think they are hummingbirds. Have never know exactly what they were until now. Thanks for the shot and the info Kevin. I've learned something already today.

My first thought was "What on earth kind of hummingbird is that?" then I saw the title and realized it's not a bird but a moth. Something I've never seen or heard of before - something new for this old brain to absorb. :D Thanks!
Well donew. If you stopped the wing motion it would not appear "real" but more of an ornament. I must say I do prefir this way.

Oh, I agree Judy. I chose that shutter speed to intentionally blur the wings. In the past, I used higher shutter speeds, but the results didn't give "the feel of motion" that I had hoped for. I mentioned the 1/640th speed to let folks know how really fast their wings are flappin'.
Thank you, and Everyone else for your comments.
What a neat shot - and I don't think I have ever seen one.

They are pretty cool...my first time seeing one is when I had only been flower gardening a few years and they really loved the annual phloxes...I have never been fast enough to catch one!!! :)
