Title: My FAVORITE Deer Image! :)
Post by: CapturedByGrace on January 20, 2011, 04:53:07 AM
Hi everyone,
I apologize for being somewhat "missing in action" over the past few months.  Been dealing with a serious illness, but God is Good!  He is with me and keeps me strong!
I just wanted to share this picture I captured while at a friend's cabin last week.  She lives on the edge of the beginning of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison here in Colorado.  Her house is about 34 miles from where I live.  I spend a lot of time visiting my friend and her husband at their cabin, and we see a lot of critters:  Elk, deer, raccoons, bobcats, squirrels, an occasional bear and lots of birds.  It's just gorgeous and like a retreat for me.  When I am not feeling well, she comes and gets me and brings me to her place so I can watch the wildlife or just sit in the recliner by the fire and look out their huge windows at the gorgeous scenery...it helps me relax and forget about how lousy I feel.  I am truly blessed to have friends like this.
Anyway, this image is special to me just because I captured it while at her place.  Was standing on the deck and saw 6 or 7 deer coming up the hill to her house, and they all started coming in between these 2 snowbanks.  So I started firing off shots, and they would all stop and look at me when my lens re-focused (it's noisy), which was great, because I got that eye contact!  I was shooting with a 300 mm telephoto lens without a tripod (was being lazy, and it was COLD that day!), and I was just having fun getting pictures of them, and enjoying watching them, so wasn't expecting real clear shots.  This one, however was amazingly sharp and clear for a hand held shot with a telephoto lens.  Although I was "snapshooting", I was careful to meter so that the snow wasn't blown out.  I think this deer was more amused than I was LOL.  I just loved the pose and the expression.  Don't know if you can see the expression at the size limitation, and the compression might be killing the detail.  It looks like he is smiling.  My friend has yet to see this picture.  I told her she is going to love it.  Sorry this commentary was so long...just wanted to share the story behind the photo.  :)
It makes me smile and hope it does you, too.
Blessings,
Kelly
