Title: Painted Bunting
Post by: Fotobirder on May 11, 2010, 05:31:36 PM
For a long time, I always wanted a Painted Bunting pictures. So I developed a plan of action: Go to where they breed and sit by the Millet Feeders. Here's one of my latest pictures.

That was my problem. I had only seen others pictures but I wanted one of my own. So, I found out where they breed. They are actually all over Georgia. The closest area is about 150miles away. But I took this picture at Harris Neck NWR at South Newport, Georgia. That's about 30 mile south of Savannah, Georgia. They are in Florida in the Winter but look much better in middle April until late June when they are breeding. They were caught and caged at one time. But through could planning they have fought back and now have two species. One is in the southeast and the other is in the Southwest. I can't tell much difference between them. Thank for the comments and may the Lord bless & keep you.

They are about 5 to 5 1/2 inches. Here's one I took in Florida. They had their tail feathers fanned out.
