Earlier in the summer, I spotted several totally bald Northern cardinals. Was told this is a normal occurence. Well, I think his feathers are growing back. I shot these through a smudged window so, forgive the softness.
Take a CLOSE look at the hummingbird drinking. If you look real
closely, you can see the tip of his tongue breaking the surface of the
sweet water. In fact, you can see his tongue. It's that real thin
black vertical line that looks like a continuance of the black
shepherd's hook. See it?

Excellent shots. I have never seen a bald cardinal! I suppose a moult is normal! Yes I see the tongue.......I think. There does seem to be a "bump" in the water. Now what is the last bird?
Wow! I've never seen a bald cardinal before, either.
I don't know very much about photography, but even shooting through the window it's a clear picture.
Love, Courtney :rose:
I do see it, and I think these are great pix. You really had to be ready and have all your sneaking up done already to get them. Great work!
Thanks, everyone! Sorry for the delayed reply. Life has been getting in the way lately. Now that the dust has settled somewhat, I'll be a little more active.
That last bird is a hummingbird.
Products of a great, l'il P&S camera!
