I was trying to capture some images of the swans that live on the Avon River in Stratford, Ontario.  When I got there, the sun was never brighter.  All my images were about blown out with the bright sun.

But this one, I thought  about using.  It wasn't very exciting.

The swan was just in it's normal horizontal position with the edge of the river being in a perfectly straight line so I tilted the image to make things diagonal.

What do you think?

It's a nice swan, but with the head so hidden it won't have broad appeal.

Yes, I see your point.    About the only one worth saving due to the overhead sun.

I'll have to go back again when they are released from their winter home in the spring.

Well I can see where thesaj is coming from, but even so, I like this shot. I think the lighting is nice and I enjoy the diagonal aspect.

I like it when swans do this bit, so the picture stirs me in a cetain way.  I like that!

Oh don't get me wrong, I liked the swan photo .... I just think it won't have broad appeal. But it's a fun enjoyable photo. Nicely taken.

First, the shot is unusual, and engaging, so I think it's successful.   I like it.   

Second, there are ways to handle excessively bright sunlight.   Bracket, then chose the best one from your bracketing.   I use the GIMP (a freeware program) but it works the same in photoshop.   Adjust levels, which fixes blown out images at the cost of contrast.    Then use contrast or curves adjustment to get the contrast back to where you'd like it to be.

Works for me.
