Very nice shot!
Beautiful! I have never seen one of these birds, Thank you !
I'm sure there's nothing like that in my area. Isn't it wonderful we can enjoy species from all over the world?
The Yellow-crowned Night Heron is mostly found in the Southern U.S., although they occasionally are seen in Canada.
The Black-Crowned Nigh Heron does summer in Canada and the Northern U.S.
Thank you for the info! I will be looking out for one of those!
I know we have herons but I don't know the "long name". I appreciate your telling us. That's an amazing photo! What size are they? Are they as large as the ones that walk along the edge of the ponds? I've never seen one in a tree.
They are rather small birds as herons go, a bit smaller than a duck in body. Nothing like a great blue or a white egret. A family of these birds has moved into the woods by the pond across the street, and I've been getting some great shots in the early morning.
Not all of them appreciate my interest, however. This juvenile doesn't seem to like having his picture taken:

You have been getting some excellent shots. That juvenile looks angry at having his privacy invaded! ;D
Beautiful shots there!
Great captures!
Great shot Barbarian.
