I do not know what kind of bird this is. I hate that the fence is between this bird and my camera. The bird was very beautiful. I took this at Skylan Heights in Scotland Neck, NC (the same place I took the picture of the peacock).

This is the whole bird.

He is a beautiful bird. There are some who can erase the fence....I am not one of those. Still we get a clear picture of the bird. Well done.
Nice pics! And look at that bird's hair! ha ha!
but still, he is beautiful. :)

Cool bird! Next time, try using a very large aperture getting really close to the fence when you take the photo (as close as you can). This should throw the fence out of focus enough to see the bird much better so your picture becomes much more about the bird than the enclosure. Depending on the size of the fence, it can sometimes almost eliminate it.
:)
I never knew how that was done! Thank you
I was sure I had the identity of that bird but I can't find it. :( I know I've seen pictures of it somewhere, but this old brain's forgetter seems to be working overtime.
I hope you don't mind me posting a couple of examples. I took these through the fence at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in the spring of 2007. If I remember correctly, the eagle was in more of a mesh enclosure. The other, as you can tell, was a chain link. I also don't remember exactly how close up I was able to get, I seem to remember a railing between me and the fence, but it was as close as I possibly could get and then focusing on the animal's eyes.

That makes sence with how you showed the difference. I will remember that when I go to the zoo!
Thanks so much for sharing that info with me. I will have to try this. I do see what you mean, the fence is almost unseen. Thanks.
I'm glad I could help you all with this issue! I was once as frustrated as you with the problem of fencing and enclosures at zoo-type places. I mean, fences are lovely and all when you want the fence to be the subject, but when it's the bird you want...
(fence/horseshoe as subject) ;)

now that IS one I would take if I saw it. Yes that is a good one much better than any I would take....
Yes, I love fences! I took that shot on my recent anniversary trip.
You're very kind, Judy. Thank you.

I look forward to seeing your new, improved bird-through-fence images!
Yes me too!!!
Great examples, Kathleen. Makes me wonder how I would manage that with my camera. :(
Thanks guys. Ya'll are the best. :excited:
I just posted a How-To Tutorial on my blog about his topic of minimizing fencing in photos. Click on the link to read it. http://shotsnthoughts.blogspot.com/
Special thanks to Christa for allowing me to use her bird photo as one of my examples.
Happy shooting!

Yeah! Much better! I like it!
Excellent job of "removing" the fence. He's a real doll, too. ;)
