Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Personal Life:
To Think God's Thoughts

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. --Psalm 1:2

To think God's thoughts requires much prayer. If you do not pray much, you are not thinking God's thoughts. If you do not read your Bible much and often and reverently, you are not thinking God's thoughts....

There also has to be a lot of meditation. We ought to learn to live in our Bibles. Get one with print big enough to read so it does not punish your eyes. Look around until you find a good one, and then learn to love it. Begin with the Gospel of John, then read the Psalms. Isaiah is another great book to help you and lift you.

When you feel you want to do it, go on to Romans and Hebrews and some of the deeper theological books. But get into the Bible. Do not just read the little passages you like, but in the course of a year or two see that you read it through. Your thoughts will one day come up before God's judgment.

We are responsible for our premeditative thoughts. They make our mind a temple where God can dwell with pleasure, or they make our mind a stable where Christ is angry, ties a rope and drives out the cattle. It is all up to us.
Dr. Tozer in Rut, Rot or Revival: The Condition of the Church, 42.

"My thoughts aren't adequate, Lord, to enable me to lead Your people through the quagmire of today's society. Nor are the thoughts of the writers, the teachers, the preachers, and the psychologists that bombard me from the pages and the airways. I'm only going to be effective as a spiritual leader as I learn to 'think God's thoughts.' Amen."

Good advice and a timely reminder Pat!  :)
"The law cannot condemn a believer, for Christ hath fulfilled it for him; divine justice cannot condemn him, for that Christ hath satisfied; his sins cannot condemn him, for they in the blood of Christ are pardoned." - Thomas Brooks

Yes, thank you, Pat, for passing along Mr. Tozer's thoughts to us.  And thank YOU, Lord, for moving in the hearts and minds of Your people.  Oh draw us to Yourself today!

karmat

Good morning all!  Today, Bernard goes back to the eye doctor.  He is doing a field of vision test, and if Bernard has lost peripherial vision at all, it could indicate if/where he had a mini-stroke some time back.  At the end of March, he as a TEE -- an echocardiogram where he swallows a video camera and it gets pictures of his heart from the esophogus (however you spell that!).  Then, in April he has a heart catherization to see if/how  much damage has been done to the heart.  If the hole that he has is small enough, they can repair it during a heart cath.  If not, he will have to have open heart surgery. :(

Also, Friday night, one of the older men of our church went to work (he hauls gas from Spartanburg/Greenville, SC to different stations here in WNC) about midnight.  At some point, he managed to get a terrible head injury to the back of the head.  They said it looked like someone had hit him with a board or something, but nothing was stolen from the truck or anything, so they said perhaps he raised up and hit it.  He couldn't remember anything for a while.  He was doing better yesterday, but then took a turn for the worse this morning and passed away from an aneuryisym (spellng?).  :(

Wow, I'm just a beacon of sunshine today aren't I?  Sorry about that.  I'll try to be a bit more cheerful next time I come in. ;)

Take care, all and have a wonderful Monday.

Etta Sue

Larry ~ The concert was great for me.  The seating has it good and bad points.  Conseco is a fairly new field house...first time I had been there.  There are three tiers of seats and we were in the middle tier.  Thank God for escalators!  But when you first walk out to where you can see the whole stadium, it is very overwhelming!  The rows are very steep.  And you have a feeling that the open space is pulling you toward it...like when on a mountain and looking out over the edge of a cliff!!  That's the bad point.  The good point is no matter who is sitting in front of you, they aren't in your way of seeing anything on the floor!  If you can't walk very good, this isn't a place to go either.  But I do know they have wheelchairs available for a price!

Pat ~ Thank you for the devotion.  I need to read all the Bible again.  I have my daily devotion that is using the book where I get the devotions that I post but that isn't reading the whole Bible.

Karma ~ So sorry that Nards and all of you have to go through all the tests that Nards is having.  Nards!  Do what the doctors say, ya here?  Take it easy until you find out what is going on and only then, increase your activity IF the doctor tells you to do so.  Sorry about the death of a man in your church.  To go so fast....that is hard on the family!

I plan on cleaning the house today.  It is either that or throw some grass seed in the carpet and later I can mow the grass inside AND outside!

Rain today in Indiana.  As I was reading my devotions, a lightening strike sounded like it hit my roof and then the sound came.  My lights didn't even flicker.  I called Ivalou...woke her up...to ask her to look out her windows to see if my roof was smoking or on fire.  It isn't/wasn't but it sure sounded like it struck the roof.  It isn't raining right now but so cloudy!  And the grass is greening up!  Spring is on its way!!

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

The housekeeper is here and the landscape folks to tend the yard so by noon everything will be ship-shape around our house except that we have to have the plumber tomorrow as yesterday afternoon as the washer discharged water it backed up some into the tub and gurgled in the commodes.  It was not a pleasant sound.  Fortunately it is not totally clogged so the facilities can be used today but no use of the washing machine until the problem is fixed.

Etta Sue, that certainly is frightening when the lightning strikes so near.  Perhaps it hit a tree close by.  We had a tree struck in our yard several years ago.  Glad it was just a scare.  It sounds like you really enjoyed the concert.

Karmat, sorry to read that Bernard is having so much difficulty.  He is much too young for so many problems.  Hope they can find and fix the problem and that you have some good health care facilities in your area.  It was certainly sad about the truck driver.

Pat, a very fine devotional.

When our daughter was here this weekend she used my desktop computer and downloaded some games.  Apparently there was a virus so something that changed some settings for now I can't get the cookie functionality to work or get my Google Gmail to load on it.  I have spent quite a bit of time trying to fix the problem this morning without success so far.

It is another beautiful day here in Georgia.  I don't have to go anywhere today but they are bringing me more entries for the Senior Golden Olympics so will have a lot of work to do later today in putting the entries in the database, printing out participation certificates and doing some other related tasks.

Janet

Good morning!

Karma, so sorry to hear (read) of Bernard's problems, and will be p;raying for him.  As Larry said, he's too young to have those problems.

I must go to the care home today to talk to the Director of Nursing.  She called me on my cell, just as I was about to enter the CCU in Amarillo to see Darrel for the first time after his Cath procedure.  They were having a crisis with Beth.  I told her I could only handle one crisis at a time and it was Darrel's turn.  :-\  I did go by to see Beth on Friday and she was fine, so I postponed this until I could get some rest and be better able to deal with it.

Etta Sue, when I was a kid, lightning struck a huge cottonwood tree just outside our house and split it to the bottom!  VERY loud!! :o  Glad it didn't hit your roof.  And the concert sounds really nice.

Larry, sorry your computer got messed up again.  Sometimes my grandson Mark downloads a bunch of music on mine---then when he leaves, I delete all of it!

Hello, Pat.  Good thoughts for today.  Thanks.

Pat:  Many thanks for your devotions from Tozer.  I noticed (with a smile) he suggests a Bible with larger print...good idea and I should buy one.  We tend to stick with what we have had for years and it does get difficult to read the tiny print.

Karmat:  My prayers and good wishes to you and Nards as you go through the tests and results.  May the doctors be guided.

Larry:  Leave it to the "Kids" to gum up the computer - just kidding.  Good luck with the plumber.

I too had a computer issue this weekend.  I moved mine and when I set it up again everything worked fine for a bit then suddenly....nothing and only got "beep beep beeps" when trying to turn on the computer.  I called my mother for a phone number and called my computer guy to see if he would be in today so I could drop off my tower for him to fix, and he told me to take the cover off my tower and check my cards inside that most likely one had come loose.  Sure enough, that was the problem and when I put it back solidly in its spot, all worked fine.

I am sore today, I'm sure because I moved my computer and desk and filing cabinet upstairs and out of the main stream of site in my house.  I still have much work to do to put everything to rights again but the hard lugging is done.

Judy McKenna, it is nice to see that you are back in your home town.

Pat, hope you are feeling better.

Nards, take care of yourself and follow Dr's orders.  You have far too much going for you to not do so!

I know I am missing more but did not take notes so will just say hello everyone and take care of yourselves!

I received this in my email today and thought I'd share it here

Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad.

Always remember to forget
The friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.

Always remember to forget
The troubles that passed away.
But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day.

JudyB

I am just listen to Toby Mack's new song "I was made to Love and be Loved By You"  It is an amazing song upbeat but the words are wonderful.

Narda take care of yourself.  You are giving everyone cause for concern.  Do what the Doctor says ok?

Janet good for you.  You can only do one thing at a time.  To do anything you need to be rested.  I continue to pray.

Etta Sue I can relate to the grass seed.  We live on a gravel road and in the summer dump trucks run up and down.  I don't get on top of dusting till it is too cold to get the gravel out of the pit and by then the fire is going.

Larry I understand computer problems.  I am absolutely no good but leave it to the kids they understand the bits and bites, I get frustrated just watching.  I usually leave the room and let them at it.

Tonight is small group.  I would really like to stay home, it is cold out, and the temp is to drop some more.  The girls have cadets so staying home is a no go.  Aparently they have a test of some kind tonight.  I never knew kids to want to go for tests before.

Keep me in your prayers over the next couple of days.  There is a lot of stress to deal with.

Bye for now,
JudyB

Marilyn

Hello all.  Nards get well quickly. It is sad to hear that you are not well and having the troubles of an old man when you are so young. God Bless you Brother. I didn't have to swallow a camera when I had the ECG. They used something similar to an ultra sound device.

Janet the caregiver always has to take time to rest, you need a day off too from the  stress of being the caregiver. Believe me I do know what I am talking about. I am so glad I am no longer working on Saturdays and I can do whatever I want to do that is not taking care of someone else. So dear sister do take time for yourself. Relax and give all your cares to the one who cares for us.

Sue and Larry computer problems are such a pain. I am always worried  that  I am going to get a virus or something that is going to crash my computer and make me lose everything. I still have not backed up all my files, photos etc on CD's , It isn't that I don't have the Cd's I have plenty of them. I need to get the cases to put them in.

Etta Sue I think I would be in my closet (if I could fit in there) if lightening stuck so close to my house. and Happy would be under the bed quivering. The thunder must have been horrendous.

Father, I pray You'll give the doctors great wisdom for Nards, and I pray You'll enable both he and Karma to be aware of Your love and Presence there with them.  Oh lay Your healing hand on Nards just now, Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Janet

I have felt really lethargic today, so didn't do too much.  I did go see Beth and have her sign some tax papers, and went for an interview as I am signing up to be a Youth Friend Mentor.  Our school system has lots of volunteers who meet with a child once a week, either to be a mentor or a reading buddy.  My friend Pat is a Youth Friend and really enjoys doing it.  She eats lunch with her student once a week and spends an hour with her.  I will enjoy doing that---but I think Abby may be envious.  ;)

Darrel went out and about a little today, and is feeling a lot better. And my wonderful friend Pat made us a nice kettle of stew for our supper tonight.  :)

I do hope I can get rested up a bit this week.  I dislike feeling so tired and listless. :-\

Hello everyone...

I'm so tired tonight.  I didn't sleep at all well last night so I think I'll go to my bed early.  I may even go and lie down now.

I've read all the posts and I will pray for you all.

Love

Hello all!  Bernard "passed" his field of vision test. ;)  He did get a referral to a neurologist if it doesn't clear up, but apparently, the eye dr. is crossing his fingers and hoping it goes away.  :)

Marilyn, sorry I didn't make it more clear.  He has already had the ECG with a doppler/ultrasound advice.  The next one will give a clearer picture of the actual hole.

As far as medical care, we have, in my opinion, quite possible the best cardiology department in the state.  The Memorial Mission/St. Joseph Hospital system was rated in the top 100 hospitals in the country not too long back, as well, so between that and God, Bernard is in good hands.

Hope everyone has a good night.

Laters

Nita

Karmat, good news!  When you said Bernard "passed", I about swallowed my tongue, but then I kept reading and found it was a vision test.  Way to go, Nards.  Keep passing the tests.

Larry, have you ever gone to Housecall and ran their online test for viruses on your computer.  I do that about once a month.  I think their name is Micro
Trend, and the scan is called Housecall.  I learned about it in the tech forums at Seniornet.  I also use AVG Antispyware program along with their antivirus program.  Both free programs.  the online scan is too.

I didn't sleep last night either.  I turned on the police scanner at about 7 to find that a 5 year old boy was missing in the woods.  Search and Rescue were everywhere..from up at the end of my street, where they entered the wooded area on 4 wheelers and bikes, men on foot, etc.  There were other search and rescue in other areas and a staging area a few streets down.  Anyway, I listened to that all night long, praying for that little boy, and the dog with him.  Praying for the searchers.  The Coastguard helicopter was flying over but it was too foggy for them to do much good.

I finally went to bed at 3:30 and was up at 7 am.

Today, after daylight  during the search, a man at the end of Minnesota street, a few streets down, decided to take a walk up behind his house in the wooded area.  He hadn't been there long when he heard the dog barking, and went to see the little boy curled up in a fetal position in the bushes, only the bottom of his tennis shoes showing.  He got the boy, called 911, and the word came over the scanner.  You could hear the emotion in the dispatchers and the policemen's voices.  After a firm identification, they brought the parents to the boy.  I broke out in Hallelujahs!!  I couldn't wait for Sue to get out of the shower, so opened the door to tell her the good news!  I've been smiling all day.

Can you imagine what kind of day the child and his mom and dad are having?? :)

The dog wasn't even his.  I heard on the scanner that he was a neighbors dog and had gone to the woods with the kids.  The kids were separated somehow, two other s being rescued before dark yesterday.  The dog, a black lab, chow mix, stayed with the boy and kept him warm.  He is a hero.  A true hero.

Thank you, Father.

Tonight I think I'll sleep much better.   My own dogs, my boys, are already in bed.  I guess they know it'll be an early night.

Nita

JudyB

Wow Nita that is really something.  Imagine that dog staying with the boy!  When Doug was 4 he decided to play a trick on Mom and hid under the headboard of our water bed.  I was frantic, then so relieved when he giggled!

Small group was great today.  Cadets was cancelled, and we didn't get a call out, I am now glad of that as I would have missed the blessing of small group.

The girls have gone to bed, and I am following them very soon.

Night all, and I am praying for the needs mentioned here.

Ruth Ann Bice

Hi, friends,

Today I had a nice meeting with my boss who flew in from Cleveland just to meet with me. We talked over plans and past successes and kinda outline some thing for future emphasis. Then he took me to lunch.

And, then a SeniorNet friend who is in the area and I had met for dinner last week and she dropped something that I found after we parted. So, she was here again, and we got together tonight for me to return it to her.

And, forgetful me, forgot to pick up my medivcation and medical history printouts off the printer that serves about 30 other people. So, had to go back over to work past 10 pm to pick up the printouts. My preop physical is tomorrow morning first thing, and I certainly didn't want to work my way through morning traffic going one way, then fight my way into downtown with the regular commuters, too! Heavens, my blood pressure would most certain rise!  ;)

So, it's very late, I'm plenty tired, and ready to head for the bed.

Nards, both Larry and I can talk with you about the catherization, should you desire. Just instant message me here, and I'll be glad to give you my cell phone number. I'll be praying for you and for your entire family that God's hand of protection will be with you, and that, if it's in the will of God, that you will be spared heart surgery. Karma, thanks for letting us know.

Y'all have a good evening.

Ruth Ann
...his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Al Moak

Yes, Nards, I too had a catheteriztion procedure about 5 years ago.  At the end of it, the doctor at the hosp. where it was done came in and tried to talk me into having a triple baypass.  The cath. was done over in Redding, CA, about 150 miles from here, and my friend had taken me over.  I couldn't keep him there, obviously.  Also, I wanted to get a second opinion, so I told him that.  He argued with me, but I was adamant.  When I got back over here, I went in to the cardiologist here (a very good one), and he said, "Yo don't need THAT!"  The doc that had tried to get me to stay over in Redding to get the bypass done was very shortly disbarred from the profession and hit with heavy lawsuits.  It turned out that he had scammed mny people and done bypasses that weren't at all needed.  Thank the Lord that I didn't give in to THAT!

karmat

Ouch Al.  glad you got the second opinion.

Unfortunately, all that is happening now is "second" opinion for nards (and third and fourth).  Every cardiologist he has been too has given the same spiel -- you need to have surgery to have this corrected.  The only difference was the "urgency" the surgery had to be scheduled with.  One cardiologist said "immediately" with "me" NOW.  He's not practicing now for other health reasons, but the others have said, "you need surgery, sooner is better."   Bernard seems to be having a lot more chest pains, now, so we have decided to face this giant and get it over with. :)

Up until 5 years ago, this procedure could only be done open heart, so maybe waiting was good.  I hope.

Nita, I am so glad they found the little boy.  Yesterday, there was a little guy missing in the central part of the state.  As of last night, they had not found him, and I haven't heard an update today.  I cannot imagine what the parents are going through.  Fortunately, he was a boy scout, and the weather is mild right now, so hopefully he will be found soon.

Take care!!

Etta Sue

Tears of joy for the little boy, the dog and his parents.  What a praise for God.

Nards ~ Do what you have to do.  Pick one of those doctors and do what he says.  Too many doctors may cause confusion.  God will be with you so all will be fine but sometimes we have to have help from doctors.

Janet ~ Did I read right?  Is Darrel still in Amarillo?  You sure do have a lot on your plate.  As was said, the caregiver needs rest.

Marilyn ~ Hoosiers hide in closets when they see a funnel cloud.  Lightening doesn't strike twice in the same spot...at least, not in the same lightening storm.  Within a few minutes you could tell by the lightening and the thunder that it was past us.  I think if you see or hear lightening in the sky, then count one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand etc.  And the number that you hear the thunder, that is how many miles away the lightening is!

The other day when I mentioned that I thought refund checks were sent out only on one day of the week and I said if they are sent out on Wednesday, I should get mine that day...Friday.  Well, I did!!  My Federal refund is in the bank waiting to be spent for my medical deductible or my Florida vacation or pay my State taxes quarterly!

Bright and sunny today.  Really nice.  My thermometer at my front door says it is 52°.  I like that.  I have the front door open so the girls can watch big screen kitty TV!!

Have you ever been so tired you couldn't get to sleep?  I was last night.  I did get my house dusted, all the glass surfaces cleaned...except windows and all the floors swept.  And I moved my furniture around in the living room.  I like it this way but I like it better the way it was.

PRAISE THE LORD!!  The missing Boy Scout in NC has been found alive and in good shape!  Is the area where he was in your vicinity, Karma?

I pray for Nards---wisdom for him, you, and the whole medical team who will be in charge of his treatment.  You're all in good hands; those hands that created all of us.   <3  Love you.

Darrel has really bad bruising in his groin, probably about the size of a football.  But he says it doesn't hurt, so that's a blessing.

I need to go run a couple of errands.  Be back later.

Etta Sue, we were posting at the same time.  No, Darrel is home; I brought him home on Thursday.  He is doing better each day, even went for therapy on his shoulder yesterday.  Thanks for asking.

Gord Brown

:D Good afternoon to all. I have not been on the sight for a couple of days and I cannot believe how many things happen in such a short time. The time seems to go so fast and there is so much to do.  Next week I am starting to do V.O.L. at a mission in Welland where I live so could you please pray for me on  Tuesday I go from 9-00am till
12-00noon and I am excited about this. There are a lot of neady people in this  city.

We are praying for all of you and for your requests and the Lord will answer in his time.  God bless you all  talk to you later.

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone.

It is a beautiful 70's degree day here in Georgia.  I think spring is certainly here.

The plumber came this morning and cleared the blockage in the line to the sceptic tank.  He was here less than an hour and the bill was almost $200 but the problem had to be fixed.  Then this morning the heat pump compressor outside was running and making a squealing sound and it was turned off.  So pulled the breaker and called the get the repair man here.  If any parts are needed they are under warranty still but the labor isn't and while he is here I will have the other air conditioner checked out for the season as we didn't have it checked last summer and it will soon be needed.  Just glad we will have our tax refund shortly.

Gord, what is v.o.l.?  Is that some type of volunteering?

Janet, I also was relieved to hear that the boy scout had been found and Nita that was good news of the little boy lost in your area.  There is so much meanness now, or at least we hear about more of it, that it is such a relief to hear a pleasnt outcome of these situations.  Glad Darrel is doing better and the bruise will disappear over time.  The blood thinners we take leave us prone to this type of thing when they have to enter the artery.

Karmat, the sooner Nards has the surgery to repair his heart the sooner he will be feeling better and resuming a full life.  They have made great strides in dealing with heart problems.  If they don't have to open the chest he will likely have a very quick recovery.

Al, I fear that the doctor you encountered is far from alone in pushing heart surgery.  It is what they call as "cash cow" in terms of income for both the doctors and hospitals.  However, there are certainly times when such procedures are vital and give the doctors the information they need.

Ruth Ann, it sounds like you have been keeping very busy.  Hope your medical appointment went well today.

JudyB, hope your girls were not too disappointed when their cadets was cancelled.

Nita, thanks for the reminder about the Trend Micro online scan,  I will definitely run it.  I do run AdAware and Spybot periodically.

Pat, sure wish you could get well and get rested up.  Is your granddaughter still living with you?

Janet, Pat and I did the youth mentoring one year and really enjoyed it.

Marilyn, I would certainly advise you to go ahead and copy off on CD all of the files you want to save.  You can put plain paper between the discs until you get sleeves.  I actually prefer the paper or plastic sleeves over the cases as they take up less room.  Just before I started to write this my wife asked me to help her download a quilting demo and then burn a couple of copies on to CD, something she had never done before.

Sue, your computer person gave you good advice and saved you some money.  Glad your computer is fine.

Carol, I am sure my daughter had no idea that she was causing any problem and she may not have been the reason for the problem.  I think I may have to reload Windows to see if that will correct the problem with the cookies.  I have never experienced anything like this before.

I have an evenings work in entered about 70 new entries for the Golden Olympics database.  We are coming down to the end of the process as the cutoff is the end of the month and they will not accept anymore applications.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

No rain today.....I had forgotten what the sun looked like!

My daughter & SIL have gone across the water to attend a Hockey Game.  It is hard for Wendy to travel and sit thro' a game, but he is a sports fan.  So hope that all goes well.  They are away for a couple of days and I get to look after the six rabbits and two cats.  Hope the rain holds off for a time as it is hard to care for the rabbits when getting soaked!!!

Lots of folks to pray for right now.  I was pleasantly amazed to see an article on the front page of Victoria's paper with the title, "It pays to pray for patients, study finds."

A researcher at Arizona State U. analyzed 17 major studies on the effects of intercessory prayer on people with medical problems.  Positive effects for those being prayed for were noted in 12 of the 17 research cases.  Most notable, he found that six of seven studies in which patients were unaware that someone was praying for them produced positive health results.  Stated that one possible explanation of these results is that God does exist and answers prayers. Marilyn, I couldn't get that link to work?

Small Smile:

A Matter of Perspective

Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby. "Kneeling is definitely best," claimed one.

"No," another contended. "I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven."

"You're both wrong," the third insisted. "The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor."

The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Hey, fellas, " he interrupted, "the best prayin' I ever did was hangin' upside down from a telephone pole."

                                                 ;)
Time to go and feed the bunnies and think about getting something for Amanda's dinner.  They are easier to feed.

Pleasant Day/Evening and God Bless.

Read all the posts and praying for the needful.

Almost everyone in my family is flying this week - to Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, Orlando, & Honolulu.  I am driving to Cheyenne, Wyoming - whoopee!!!  Talk about praying with never ceasing prayers.

Take care,
Carol
