Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Morning Devotional...

Jesus and His Message
John 12:37-50 NLT

But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him.  This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted:

"Lord, who has believed our message?
To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?"

But the people couldn't believe, for as Isaiah also said,

"The Lord has blinded their eyes
      and hardened their hearts—
so that their eyes cannot see,
      and their hearts cannot understand,
and they cannot turn to me
      and have me heal them."

Isaiah was referring to Jesus when he said this, because he saw the future and spoke of the Messiah's glory.  Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn't admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.  For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.

Jesus shouted to the crowds, "If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me.  For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me.  I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.  I will not judge those who hear me but don't obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it.  But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken.  I don't speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.  And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say."

What kinds of pressures make you hesitant to tell others about your belief in Christ?

Jesus had performed many miracles, but most people still didn't believe in him.

Likewise, many today won't believe despite all God does.  Don't be discouraged if your witness for Christ doesn't turn as many to him as you'd like.  Your job is to continue as a faithful witness.

You are responsible, not for the decisions of others, but simply to reach out to them.

A three-way call would have been awesome at 1 in the morning!!  Gosh, Pat, it has been a long time since we talked...long over due.  And JudyB, I have never talked to you on the phone!  Must remedy that sometime.

I took a nap this afternoon but I still feel a lack of sleep.  So it is off to bed for me!

ONE MAN ONE JOB

If you can remember back many years particularly around the 1950s and 60s union rules stipulated that one man did only one job, and to pick up another workers tools could bring the whole factory out on strike until the issue was resolved. You know God's rulebook is a bit like that, one man one job, and evangelism is essentially like a production line. Paul in his first Epistle to the Corinthians 3:1-9 tells them that they having so many divisions on spiritual matters among them that they were not even taking of the milk of God's word, and in this portion of his letter Paul deals with sectarianism in the congregation, some people were saying they were of Apollos's persuasion, whilst others were saying they were of Paul's persuasion.
Paul goes on to remind them that both he and Apollos are both co-workers in Christ, and that they were both ministers by whom the Corinthian Christians had come to faith in Christ. Lets look at verses five to nine. Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building.
A minister once went into a hospital ward, saying, "I haven't come to convert you if that's what you're thinking," little did he realise the truth of that statement. Die-hard unbelievers sometimes tell you you'll never convince me there is a God, or that I need God, the only reply to that is, "You're right, nothing I can say can ever convince you there is a God, and that you have a need of Him, in fact it's not my job, I'm only doing my job of telling you the good news of the Gospel, someone else may come along and add to what I've already said, and neither is it his job to convince you concerning the things of God." The man on the end of the production line is the one who puts it altogether, he is the one who is the author and finisher of a man's faith, and that person alone is God Himself.
The glory belongs to Him, and Him alone. So if you are getting disheartened at the lack of response in telling others of their Need of Christ, you may be trying to do God's job for him. The Bible tells us we must die to self, and if we do that we fall into the ground and bring up seed ten fold, a hundred fold, maybe a thousand fold.
This is part of a tract I wrote a couple of years back but the result of a computer crash, lost the document, which meant retyping it all, but like you say,
"Make sure that when you leave a person,
he is closer to Jesus
than when you first met him."
If scripture is right, we can only be a part of that means to an end. God must ultimately be the Author and finisher ofn any persons faith, Michael.

Michael, that is truly an excellent message to all of us.  We are but to testify, but God alone brings the fruit.  Oh how we need to learn that, and then to learn it again!  Why is it so deep in our natures that we alone can accomplish anything - with no thought of God?  Oh may we learn well that only God can accomplish anything and that we are but His servants.

Marilyn

Great word this morning from Michael and Etta Sue's book.
Michael That was an awesome tract.

I started writing this before I went to Curves I ddn't realize how close it was to the time I usually leave to pick up Willa.

Wonderful service last night and yesterday morning.

Nothing else is new here.  I am going to  sit in the corner with Jane, Colin, and Jeannine.

Good word here this morning!

The wind is blowing, so I will go walk on the treadmill rather than outdoors.  I do not like the wind.  :(

I'm happy to say there isn't much on my calendar today.  That's always nice.  :)

Liz, I really enjoyed the poem you posted.  Don't work so hard, Grammies are supposed to get to take it easier, you know.   ;)  (Advice I should heed myself.)

Hi all,

Church was GREAT! last night.  Oh what a mighty God we serve!  I feel so much better about things than I have in 7 months.  God is working on restoring everything that Satan has taken away from us.  Praise His wonderful name!

I'm sorry to all if it seems I've been more of a drag, but it was hard to be in my shoes, until now.

Larry, is the drought affecting your family like what they show in the news?  I think about you when hearing about it.

My camera "died" a few weeks back, so now I need to get a new one.  Any suggestions?  I liked it being digital.  Nothing really fancy, but sturdy.  Like taking pictures of the kids and such.

I gotta run, "trying" to clean house today, but can't stay off the computer.  8)

Later,
Samantha

Sure sad to read about your camera, Samantha.  I'm surprised at how the prices of cameras has really gone down.  Our first in 2000 cost over 1200. and now you can get better ones for around the 200 to 300 dollar mark.

Janet

I received a call about my niece who was born with a heart defect.  Her dad died suddenly of the same defect when he was only about 20 or 21; then later his brother died as well.  They said that particular thing was only passed to the males in the family.  Audra was born 7 months after her father's death.  Anyway, about two years ago they found that Audra also has the defect.  They put in a pacemaker and defribillator, and she seemed to be doing well, was exercising and doing daycare, taking care of her husband and two little kids.  Anyway, it seems the defibrillator failed, she had a heart attack, blacked out, was blind and could not talk.  She could hear.  They took her to Mayo Clinic; where they said they will watch her for three days, then go in for open heart surgery.  Said her heart is so enlarged on one side they may "slice off" part of it.  :'(

Would you please pray for Audra?  She's a lovely young woman, such a wonderful and loving mother, and has so much to live for.  My sister is frantic--this is her eldest grandchild and she has always been so close to her.  Thanks.

Also----after hearing about this, I was looking in our little small town newspaper and there were two ads about the lead wires on defibrillators failing---causing five deaths and many surgeries to swap them out.  Of course I thought about YOU, Larry.  The brand is Meditronic Sprint Fidelis.  Please tell me that is not the brand you have!  And if it is, get it checked now!  We do not want anything bad to happen to you.  <3

Oh, Janet, I most certainly will be in prayer for Audra ... and all who are close to her and those working toward her recovery and care.

My son-in-law has a pacemaker but it doesn't include a defibrillator.  What a scary thing to have to think about!
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass .... it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Larry Hanna

Janet, do not fret for me as I don't have that kind.  I have a St. Jude's (not associated with the hospital).  I recently saw an article about this problem with the other brand and they had problems a year or so ago.  Glad they didn't use that kind on me.

Janet

Thank God for that, Larry!  But if they had problems a year ago and did not inform all patients who had them, that is.....unforgivable!  I'm so relieved to know yours is another brand, and thanks for your quick response.

Thanks, Jane.  I just keep picturing Audra at our family reunion last June, how kind and loving she is with her kids, how she adores them.  Please, God, protect Audra and spare her life.

I am going to call my sister and ask if there is anything new about Audra.

It has been a busy day and we are getting ready to leave to have dinner with friends and then play some cards or games.

We are going to Augusta, GA on Saturday to see our granddaughter and great grandchildren.  We have never seen the youngest and he is 2 years old.  We did get to see the great granddaughter when she was 4 months old and now she is 4 years old.  It should be a wonderful day.

Our daughter is coming out tomorrow evening and will spend the night and then go back on the bus on Wednesday morning.  The chiropractor is offering free treatments for his regular patients and both she and my wife have appointments at 6:30 tomorrow evening.

Time to leave.

Because He Lives
(Click to hear music)

Words and music by William J. Gaither
copyright 1971

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.
Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
Matthew 28:6

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus;
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!

Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

Jeannine

Morning all,

Guess I'll come out of the corner for a moment and catch you all up on the latest. My dad is doing very well since his heartattack about a month ago. Pretty much back to his old self. My mom's dimentia is slowly worsening.

Michael is doing well. My husband has decided he cant handle things anymore and so has taken off in a motor home, might be back in a year or whenever. He has in effect left me a single mom with a special needs child because he is thinking only of himself and not caring much about anything else.

The doctors finally let me not have to do physical therapy anymore with my shoulder, its as good as it's gonna get. Too much arthritis. Now the knee doctor gets a crack at me, my knee is bone on bone and nothing left of much else in there. Will know more friday.

I do read and pray for all here, I just would rather do it from the quiet corner. May you all have a God filled and blessed day! Ok, nuff said, back to the corner with Colin, Marilyn and Jane.

Still trusting,
><>Jeannine
Psa 18:2  Jehovah is my strength, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock; I will trust in Him; He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

If'n ya'll want my opinion, (here it 'tis, even if'n ya don't want it) I think ya'll should come outta that corner!!!  Ya'll have much to offer to others in need!!

I didn't come in here yesterday after I posted after the devotion.  Busy day....uh, doing nothing!!  But I certainly want to thank all of you for your kind words about the devotion and especially to Michael for his words.  Tell me if I am wrong but we can coax, prod, fish, command, etc. all we want for someone to except Christ.  But God first has to choose us to be one of His children and then we have the choice to accept or not accept Christ as our Lord and Savior.  Thank God, I am one of his children and therefore I chose to accept Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Well, in an hour or so, I have someone coming to talk to me about Medicare, Medigap and Medicare Drug program.  I have a feeling that I may be spending money monthly instead of some here, a lot there and so forth!

I have a pot of chili on the burner.  MMMMMmmmm, it smells so good!  It is only 35° here on a bright and sunny day.  A great day for chili!!

Etta Sue, Darrel made chili a couple days ago, and it was SO good! (Slurp!)  ;)

It is not God's will for any to perish, but for all to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus..  But we do have the free will to choose to accept Him, or to go to hell.

I think that corner is getting too crowded, and I know they are not being quiet over there----so you might as well come on out and talk with the rest of us!  We are all family here, aren't we?

Jeannine, I'm so sorry to hear that your husband has taken off.  You really need his support for you and Michael---on the other hand, if he was crabby and irascible, it may be more peaceful without him.  Prayers for your shoulder, knee, and of course for Michael.

I got hold of my sister early this morning and learned a bit more about Audra's condition.  The defect she inherited causes the walls of the heart to thicken.  She also has a defective valve in her heart.  And the defibrillator she has IS one of those recalled!  She will undergo open heart surgery probably on Thursday.  She says Audra describes her episodes as "white-outs" and says she is looking at the hem of Jesus' garment.  She is momentarily unable to stand, see or talk, but can hear.  She has been having these spells about once a day!  Scary!  They told her that her heart only beats on its own about 1% of the time.  Please pray for Audra.  She's about 30 years old, has a 6 year old boy and a 3 year old girl.  Thanks.

I'd better stop before your eyes get tired!

Jeannine, I'm so sorry to read your post.  I'm happy that Michael is doing a little better but so unhappy about the actions of your husband and I will be remembering your situation in my time of prayer each day.  I had no idea.  So please don't stay in that corner!

OK All y-all I'll come out for just a bit.  Jeannie I am so sorry to hear that your husband has left you a single mom with a special needs child. That is so hurtful my heart goes out to you and I will be praying for you sister.

Not much on my  short list for today. The car is getting a new muffler and I  will have lunch at the Arcata Senior Center if the car is done in time. Then I will come home and walk the dogs. I wish I could say I am going to work.

Right now I am waiting on the phone with AARP to cancel my health insurance  so I can go back on Medicaid. I just can't afford the premiums at this time. I have to cut back wherever I can.

Back to the corner now.

HI all.  I agree with Etta Sue about not staying in the corner but an occasional posting is better than no posting and we each have to make that decision for ourselves.

Jeannine, what a burden you have to carry.  My heart goes out to you.  Glad your son and father are doing better and hope the knee doctor will be able to help you.  I just can't understand a father leaving his family but each person must make his/her own decisions.

Etta Sue, hope you get a lot of good info on your health insurance situation.  One reason I really like Kaiser is that I don't have to deal with all of that.  Of course, I know that Kaiser isn't available in many locations.  I was happy this year to see our monthly premiums are being reduced about $20 a month but haven't seen if any of the deductibles or co-pays are being increased.

Pat had gone to a quilt shop with her good friend this morning and I am sure they will have lunch, which is nice.

Carol

I am listening to radio Pandora via the computer.  Larry - thanks ever so much, we really enjoy this set-up.  Today, I made a radio station on old church songs.  I was just listening to "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling" and now is "Why me Lord".  Randy Travis sings the first one.  It is like going down memory lane.  Can you hear me singing along?

Jeannine:  Peace be with you - may you be surrounded with help and compassion.

Etta Sue:  I am still coughing but will come out of the corner.

Spent my morning finally in the basement cutting fabic for a special pillowcase with trim of musical instruments.  - Plan to make at least 3 different pillow cases.  Then, also quilted stiff bowls for each family - prepared the fabric and now to cut before sewing.

Larry:  My very best wishes for a warm and wonderful Saturday for you and Pat.
Pandora is playing "nearer my God to thee" - love this Pandora.  The last time I heard this song was on a car radio as we were going over a pass  between Aspen and Leadville - it was snowing hard & the highway closed right behind us - treacherous.  We didn't speak and I suddenly realized that the band on the Titanic had played this when going down - not a good sign.  But - we made it.

Janet:  It sounds like this operation will be of help to your niece.  Our SonIL used to work for the M compay and is now with a German company & they have never had any recalls.  Praying for your niece and sister.

JudyB

I have been sitting in the corner listening to all the chatter.

We have had snow most of today.  The ground is too warm for it to stay, but enough to make the day miserable.

I have come up with an idea for my grands.  They love cookies, especially Johnny.  So for Christmas I am going to fill a shoe box with all different kinds of cookies for him as well as the others.  Also Heather is coming over to help make candy and toffee's.  I will fill a small (she says very small) box with candies we have made as well.  They very rarely get candy from grandma, so when they do it is a real treat.

I am closing off, I will continue to listen to the conversation and pray for the needs.  Till later

I just got home from the Thanksgiving dinner at the care home.  I was the only "family" at our table, so I had my hands full!  Mom, Beth, and Janet C. all have very limited use of their hands; so I filled their plates, cut their meat, buttered their bread, filled their glasses, etc.  But it was a good meal, and pleasant company.  My sister had to work tonight, so she wasn't there.  And Janet C. has no family here.

Put the lid back on Pandora's Box---quick!!
