JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

"The Old Pastor"

Render therefore...honour to whom honour."  Romans 13:7

The old pastor was tired, and it seemed that the weight
of the world was on his shoulder.
Seems the battles grew harder as he became older.
Although he had fought many battles over the years,
His strength was now ebbing, replaced by fears.
Seemed some of the young ones wanted a preacher with more personality.
They were tired of that old preacher and his originality.
Oh, they talked around and let it be known,
That they wanted to change the old church home.
Let's get another preacher; Old pastor has been here too long.
He just needs to pack up his books and shuffle on home.
But you know that pastor was tough and not a quitter,
In God's big ballpark he was a home run hitter!
So the old preacher took heart and tightened up his grip,
Cut loose the holding back straps and said, "Let'er rip!"
You know, I saw that old preacher again with his head held high,
With determination on his face and a tear in his eye.
It seemed that I could sense from the look on his face,
That he had made up his mind to finish the race.
Oh, yes, he'll fall in the battle from some deadly archer,
But he left his instructions for his flock to follow,
"Just cover my face and keep on marching."

"If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sancitified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work".  (II Tim. 2:21)

Morning Devotional...

Lip Surgery

"'Woe to me!' I cried. 'I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips' Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, 'See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.'"  - Isaiah 6:5-7

And I know of no greater sin of mine than my lips. My unholy thoughts, though many, are my private sins that affect only me. My unholy deeds, though heinous, are few and far between.

But my words are many and their damage is public. In a few short sentences, I can cut a baggage handler at the airport down to size for dropping my wheelchair. In a string of vexings and hammerings, I can skewer my husband's plans for the weekend. In a twisted maze of flatterings, I can manipulate any unsuspecting soul.

Oh, what a burden. To possess such an instrument is more than I can bear at times. But while the reality of my sinful lips depresses me, God corrects me with one important observation: "See, this has touched your lips."

For Isaiah, it was the burning coal used by God to drive home His point that outside intervention is needed. Through painful imagery of cauterized lips, Isaiah learned an important lesson. His lips were impure, but God touched them and declared them clean.

But that is not the end of it. God desired to use those lips. When asked, "Whom shall I send?" Isaiah had the righteous audacity to say, "Here am I. Send me."

Lord, purify my words by Your presence in my life. Remove the dross of selfishness and pride from these lips. Make them sing and speak of You all my days.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:1,2

I went for a little visit of five days (to Areley House). There were ten persons in the house, some unconverted and long prayed for, some converted, but not rejoicing Christians. He gave me the prayer, "Lord, give me all in this house!" And He just did.

Before I left the house every one had got a blessing.

The last night of my visit after I had retired, the governess asked me to go to the two daughters. They were crying.  Then and there both of them trusted and rejoiced; it was nearly midnight. I was too happy to sleep, and passed most of the night in praise and renewal of my own consecration; and these little couplets formed themselves, and chimed in my heart one after another till they finished with "Ever, Only, ALL for Thee!"

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

Just a little bit of fun this week...

Take part in our poll that is above the devotional!  If you make a mistake, you can change your vote.  We'll tally the votes next Saturday!

Larry ~  I have never seen my files on my external.  It shows they are there but not in folders like I had on the C drive.  That's why I am wondering how to move them to my C drive.  And I wish I had my laptop so I could start renewing it.  Do you realize I am impatient?  It will okay but just wish I could fast-forward a week or two and it would all be done.

Never found the poll....

Today is the DDS and I am taking my swim bag.  Would like to go swimming and get it over with for the week.  Kitty is in Ohio baby-sitting her g-daughter so I am alone this week.

Thank you, Pat, for that beautiful old hymn - it's high on my list of favorites, and I pray it may become high on my list of prayers as well.  I pray that our Lord will soon make you hale and hearty - through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We do have fun around here, don't we?  I voted for my favorite cookie, although I wish I could vote for more than one.

And there's more voting to be done!  We have a week to get our votes in for our 10 favorite entries in the Mini Challenge #50, "Fall Is In The Air"  HERE.

I voted for Snickerdoodles, but I also like sugar and chocolate chip---all warm from the oven!  I dare not bake any of them often because neither of us need to eat them!  It will be fun to see which wins.

Pat, I do hope you are feeling good and strong again, and that you stay well.  You have certainly had far more than your share of problems in the past few years!  Love you.

I am ready to go out and walk, and need to do it right away, as the wind is starting to come up, and high winds are predicted for later today.  Ugh.

I don't yet know what today holds...but do we ever, really?

Hi everyone.  It has been a rainy morning but seems to have stopped for now and suppose to be over by 1 pm.  We sure needed the rain.

After coffee we went to the gym to walk.  I walked a few laps.  Then stopped by the bank and went to Kaiser for a couple of prescriptions.  I will have lunch with my Monday men's group at 1 pm.  We are going to a place that I really like.  Today is our son's 47th birthday.  My, how fast these years pass.  Thought I had lost most of this posting when I voted for the poll but was able to use the back button on this tab and recover what I had written and then go forward and paste into the message box.

Al, thanks for the info on how you keep the coffee.

Ruth,  glad you were able to talk with your pastor and hope you will feel comfortable with what you post here.  Sometimes in writing it is difficult to convey the exact thought and our words can be misunderstood.  I try very hard not to see negatives in what others say and if I do to limit to a very short time letting the words affect how I feel.  My days are too important to let someone else take the joy out of them.

Janet, thanks for the explanation of the wood harp.  I had to chuckle when I realized we have one of those hanging in our front hallway.  I just didn't know what it was called.  I sure agree about the need for prayer regarding the election and the importance of voting.

Pat, thanks for the prayer.  If you see me in person most days it looks like I am at the peak of health and sometimes I want to deny the reality of the situation.  I expect to be around for a long time.  Hope you are feeling better.  Thanks for the devotional thoughts for this week.

Marilyn, I am glad you realize that criticism of someone because they do something in a different way can be very hurtful.  I am sure Keith is doing what he thinks will please you and generally there are no "right" and "wrong" ways in doing many things, just preferred or learned ways. I always try to keep in mind "how important is it".   I am sure the cast is slowing you down.

Carol, I saw that the Broncos had a tough day yesterday.  The Atlanta Falcons had a very exciting game and for awhile I was concerned that they were going to lose after giving up a nice lead.  However, they ended up successful.  I think we have a good team this year that should make the playoffs.  Glad you are home from the mountains and not risking getting snowed in.

Jeanne, I wanted to vote for them all.  I don't know that I have ever had a cookie I didn't like.  :)

Etta Sue, it sounds like you are using a backup command to get your files to your external hard drive.  The same program that does that should have a restore function and that is what you will have to use to get your files back to what you expect.  I don't use that method of backup and didn't think about that being the case.

Ruth

Hello to all:

Yesterday I was going to have a lovely roast of beef for dinner but instead we got a call asking if we would like to join our cousin for a small birthday dinner he was 81 yrs young. The roast was put in the frig. until today. Roast beef dinner anyone going to join us?
Because this is a local restaurant and is very well known one never knows who will be coming in and yes another set cousins came in on their way home from a quilting show in Orangeville.  We had not seem them in a long time.

I feel very comfortable here, but the issue with facebook I will not put on paper but the couple doing the accusing is plenty scared that the results of the tests will be cancerous. There was a serious family issue in the past leaving them very touchy and not willing to deal with it and move on.  We live in a very small world and not everything can be kept secret.

About the cookies I have several that I like very much  1.peanut butter and 2. oatmeal but I would like to know what are Snickerdoodles ??     Will I find them in the recipe section.

This was election day for Mayors, councillors and school trustee's, for the most part many folk will be glued to the T.V. for the results.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Proverbs 3:6

Carol

homemade Snickerdoodles are great with coffee or milk.  Love all the cookies if they are homemade.

We have a tire losing air & think that the Firestone place forgot to mend the tire although they did rotate.  Not a problem, we will get the car in there tomorrow.  Boy, is it windy and cold here but now sun is shining.  Two passes in the mountains are closed & chain laws are in effect for many - am sure we will see pictures on the news tonight of people just stranded.  Sometimes the younger ones are stuck with wearing shorts & flip flops with no clue as to what to stash for emergency in their vehicles.  Worse is when they have children and have no food or formula for the babies - it is unfortunately true that there are many who do not think of anything going wrong.  I guess I was brought up to always think of the worst happening so that isn't too good either.   ::)

Janet:  We voted early by mail but so concerned about fraud in the system.

Pat:  Did you recover completely from your ailment?  I hope so because this gets to be such a busy time of the year & you need to have strength.  How about that hubby of yours?  Take care of yourselves.

Larry:  It is nice to have a gym - we either walk outdoors or go down to the basement where the t.v. gets one local channel of silly news people while we do a treadmill and now have bought a used stationary bike.  Boring at times but time does go pretty fast.

Janet

I feel pretty good about my Monday!  :)  I walked this morning, outdoors, then I went to my studio room and finished that pesky door harp.  Had to get Darrel to get me some softer wire to hang the beads from, the other just wouldn't do!  Then I put the finish (protective coat) on four paints that are now done; also I decorated ten Christmas trees!   ;)  Of course, they are very small, actually they are stamped on cardstock.  I was putting tiny dots of glitter glue on them, they will be used in card making.  I also got the base coat on a small tray I will paint for a gift, and chose the design I will paint on it.

And some friends and invited us over for supper, so that's where we are headed now.  All in all, a very satisfying day!

I really LOVE shortbread..... the way my Mum used to make them (LOL)....I do stay away from cookies, as a rule. I don't see shortbread cookies around too much anymore as they are made primarily with butter and sugar and SO rich.

Everyone, please excuse my lack of posting. I come in and regularly to read, laugh and add to my prayer list.  All of you are so special and I am so thankful to JudyB for inviting me.

The Thought for the Week, especially "The Old Pastor" was so appropriate as our Sunday School Class prayer time reminded us, and our Pastor, how special he is to God and to us!!

It has been a very cloudy and rainy day, here in NearNorth Ontario; 15 Celsius (59 F), however, Everett and I did get out to vote...
Now I must go vote in the Mini Challenge.... from my recent visits, it a tough one!!

JudyB

I'M BACK!!!!!

What a day this has been.  We got my new computer and found it wouldn't work with the keyboard that I had...wrong connection.  So a new keyboard was in the works.  Now my washer has bitten the dust...... Repair man coming tomorrow.  He thinks it is just a switch.

But I am back. This keyboard is going to take getting used to ...far more bells and whistles than any other I have ever seen.  It was also the least expensive in Futures!

Pat that "Old Pastor" reminded me of our pastor.  Ruth is so right Pastor Larry is so very special to us.

Cookies.   I love whipped shortbread, but also the Tim Hortons Double Chocolate Macadamia nut are wonderful if you like chocolate!

JudyB

Everyone please look in at Kathleen's prayer request. HERE  This is a really tough time for her, and her community..

I never met a cookie I didn't like....even Mom's Oatmeal Cookies that she sometimes used bacon grease instead of Crisco or lard!!  Mom's have a way of making everything good no matter the ingredients!!

Today is SAM's.  Our seniors at church lunch out.  Senior Adult Ministry.  Then this evening is Beef and Boards and the showing of 'White Christmas'.  Lots of music and dancing according to the website.

And it has been raining cats and dogs with wind gusts up to 52 mph.  Maybe I won't have to mulch my leaves at all.  Maybe they have blown to Lapel by now!  I could actually see the leaves disappearing from my maple tree out front while doing my Bible reading this morning!  Kind of scary a few moments.  My electric went out and right back on...but still have to reset a few clocks.  It has calmed down right now.

Everyone have a God Blessed Day!

It is a cloudy day here along with some rain.

Judy:   It seems that with one expense along comes many more before it all ends.

I got one counted cross stitch project finished and now I am about to start another that has been waiting, it is three tea cups and saucers with the words faith, hope and love on each  when done and framed I think that they will be quite nice.  I am slow at doing these things so it will be a month or two before it is finished.

Hi everyone.  It is a cloudy day here with a chance of rain this afternoon and then rain tomorrow.  It is too warm however, which gives a concern about possible storms.  It sounds like the midwest, especially the area around Chicago is really getting hit hard.  They said this morning that storm was 2000 miles wide.

Ruth, unexpected events like your cousin's invitation are so pleasant.  Glad you had a good time.

Carol, we have a wonderful place to walk as it is climate controlled and nice and flat.  We went and walked again today.  I made it eleven rounds with one rest period.  I then went to two grocery stores for a few items and finally had a meeting to attend.

Janet, it sounds like you were very productive with all your arts and crafts work as well as the walk.  That sure makes for a pleasant day and a feeling of accomplishment.

RuthV, I have never acquired much of a taste for shortbread.  Of course, I never had the opportunity to taste any of it made by our mother.

Judy, welcome back. Sure glad you got the new computer and the new keyboard.  Keyboards can be very inexpensive or way up there.  I recently got an inexpensive keyboard that rolls up to use when I have to use the Netbook, which I really dislike.

Etta Sue, sure hope you have no damage from the storm and don't lose power for very long.  Hope you can get to your evening activities.

JudyB

My Washer is up and running.  Just a broken switch that enables the washer to spin, it only works when the lid is down.  Thankfully it was reasonable for the cost.

It is cloudy and windy here.  Fire is going, I will have to add wood soon but at least I am warm.

I have 5 sweaters done withonly one left in one family.  Then two for the last family.  John has asked for a sweater as well as Kassie, but theirs will be cardigan style.  I know the yarn for Kass but am unsure of what I will use for John.

Ruth I have a cross stitch to do as well.  It is mainly words, but has a basket of flowers on top.  It is planned for a Christmas present, It may be delayed till after Christmas.

Well I must keep knitting.  God bless you All

Marilyn

Judy it sounds like you are a very fast knitter, or do you have on of those knitting machines. When I was still in the desert one of my clients had one of those machine. They are pretty nifty.

I am doing well and I hope everyone  here is as well. The sun is beautiful right now but it was  hailing and raining earlier.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

The best laid plans of mice and men...........I was just getting going on my day when the phone rang, and--you guessed it!--they wanted me to come in to work, right now!  So I went in and worked for 5 1/2 hours.  They were having their once a month "barbeque" when all the neighborhoods eat in the commons area, and Beth had already called yesterday to ask me to come eat with her.  So I got to do that, as well as working.  Of course, now I'm tired, and my day's work is still waiting.  Guess it can just wait until tomorrow.

It was quite brisk outside this morning, and the wind is blowing, but not too bad.  It has really been a remarkably beautiful October!

Two of the men in the neighborhood where I have been working are so fragile, will barely eat.  Now one of them has the shingles and they took him to the hospital today.  Those are the parts of the job I don't like, as I get attached to the residents quickly.  One of the ladies from the Unit passed away last week.  Sigh.....  And now my Mom is barely eating, so I am concerned about her, as well.  Enough of that!!!

I have some tomatoes I want to make into salsa, and they won't do themselves, so.....up and at 'em!

Hi everyone.  Just back from coffee at McDonald's.  We had a new record number of men there this morning with 10.  It was a fun time.

Today is Bible study with the pastor and then this evening choir.

So far we have escaped any of the bad weather that has been in the area although Georgia has had quite a bit of bad weather in the Northern part.  Still more possibilities for today as this is a part of that huge storm hitting a big part of the mid-west and east.

Janet, sure hope your mother will regain her appetite. It is nice of you to be willing to come and work at a moments notice.

Etta Sue

Well, I got my laptop back last evening but haven't opened it yet here at home.  Now I discovered a Toshiba Recovery and Application DVD for my laptop.  I don't know if I can use it or not.  Need to call PC Help.  Just know that my laptop is bare now...not anything with Toshiba on it that I can see.  So perhaps I need to use this DVD so that Toshiba functions will work!  Sounds like my fun has begun!  Set up email.  Set up wireless.  I lost all my email addresses.  Glad I have some on Droid and my External drive.  And yes, get my external files back on the C drive.  LARRY....wish you were here!!

'White Christmas' at Beef and Boards was wonderful.  Loved the music.  Loved the dancing.  Loved the costumes.  Loved the story.  Loved the food....it even seemed outstanding last night.  And since this was our 8th show this season, we got complimentary desserts!

Well, if I am not here for the next few days, you will know that I am playing laptop restore!

Dark and dreary with showers off and on today.  I have a dinner-meeting tonight about 40 miles away and fortunately another lady will pick me up.  I try not to drive out of town at night any more if I can help it.

Etta Sue, I don't envy you the job you'll have with your laptop.  But maybe it won't be anywhere near as tough as you think.

Good Morning from the sunny southwest coast, at 39°, of Oregon. The sun will not last long it is supposed to be cloudy and sunny off an on today then rain starts again tonight.
I've been to the gym, did a little of my normal workout but not as much as I did on Monday. I didn't go yesterday, had an appt with the ENT at 9:15 and didn't get back home until 11:00 I only live about 3 minutes from the Doctor's office. I should have just canceled the appointment all he did was ask how I was, looked at my throat and ran the scope up my nostril to look at my throat for himself after I told him it was fine.

Happy did not scratch at all yesterday, I put the flea med on in the afternoon and only gave him 1 allergy pill in the morning and 1 at night instead of 4 each time. He shook a little bit like he was cold so I warmed a towel in the microwave and spread that over him. When he went to bed I  covered him up  there too as it gets pretty cold in the bedroom at night, I did turn the heat on a little bit to take the chill out of the room.

ps.   the sun has disappeared again.and the temp has risen since I first typed this a couple of hours ago but didn't post  until now.

Went to the bible study this morning & our regular speaker will be back next week - yea -

Afterward, on to the Sprouts store where the sales were good & I am fixing a chicken and brown rice bake along with a spinach salad for neighbors tonight.  Well, they are coming over to talk about their trip to the NE to see the colors.  They are birders too so I hope they had time for their hobby.

It doesn't make me angry but it does make me sad when someone denounces another religion and a gal sitting right next to me at church talked about everything she disliked of a Lutheran funeral service.  My goodness, I didn't want to even say anything but there are pastors who do things a little different and that is who the family wanted, including the woman who died.

Time to dust & set the table & think about a dessert because we don't have desserts usually.  I just don't bake like I used to years ago.

Larry:  I just saw you on Facebook & it was nice that Gladys sent you a note.

Janet

Goodness, it is already 3 P.M.!  This day has flown by!

Darrel and I got 9 pints of salsa made today, still have some tomatoes left, so need to make another batch tomorrow.  These were given to us; we didn't get enough tomatoes off our vines to make it worth the trouble!  I didnt make it last night because I didn't have any peppers and didn't want to drive back to town to the store.

We did get frost, and today the trees are raining down leaves.  October has been so lovely, though, I am not complaining.

It is almost time to go for Wednesday Whimseys, which is what the lady calls our little scrapbooking class.  We sure enjoy it.  I made several cards last night, here at home.

Carol, I agree, people shouldn't complain about the way others' pastors handle things, if they want them, that is what counts.

Marilyn I am hand knitting these sweaters.  A fairly simple pattern, and all the same pattern just different sizes.  I have started on the 6th tonight and hope to have it done by the weekend.  That leaves only 2 of the original plan that I need to work on.  I am fighting time as Christmas is coming so fast.  To top it all off, John and Kassie would like a sweater as well, only Kassie would like a cardigan style.  That is easy enough to do, just more time consuming.

Janet it is tough seeing folks we care about fail.  Praying for you sis.

Larry walking is the best exercise going.  John and I are constantly being told to walk.  Take it easy and just don't over do it.

Ruth ....expences.  Do they ever end?  We are saving toward a new vehicle as the life on ours is short.  We will do well to have it last the winter.  I am hoping to have the new one before that.

Ruth V  Looking forward to tomorrow.  Will be fun.

It's late. I need to get some sleep.

Etta Sue

Well, I am using the laptop.  I have given up with the external drive.  Going to try it one more time.  I remember when I got it that it took me all day to get it installed and showing windows that were on the User Manual on the web.  Instructions with the box was only one paragraph and that included telling you to plug the enclosed cord into the My Passport Essential and the other end into a USB port on you computer!!  Duh!  From there you are on your own.

I called a man from church and asked him to help me but his mother-in-law was without electric and the electric company was at her house at the time getting her back in business.  David is a handyman for just about everything!  I may have to call him back.

So I really don't want to install my PSP's and some other things until I have the items off my External back onto the C drive.

Other than the External, everything is going great with this laptop.  I can't remember how to change the size of the fonts on Firefox other than Ctrl +.  Any ideas?

And I lost all of my email addresses.  Glad that I have some on the Droid.  So send me an email so I can put you back into my contact list.

Today the furnace man is to come and finish up the job that they had ordered a wrong part for last week.  I haven't heard anything yet.

Janet

A stupid old cold is trying to get me, but I'm fighting it off wit Vitamin C, Zinc, and hot tea with honey.  I plan to take it easy today and give my body a chance to fight with all it has.

Darrel just left to go to the chiropractor.  Not much on our agenda today, and that's good once in a while!
