JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Day of the Cross: God Provides Redemption

In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:14

Some theologians limit the purpose of Christ's death on the cross to being an example of sacrificial love, an illustration of His words in John 15:13: "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." Jesus proved that such costly love was possible when He illustrated it by His own sacrificial action.

Jesus certainly was an example of love and other godly attributes as well--imitated by the apostles (1 Corinthians 11:1). But something more profound than an example happened on the cross: Jesus Christ paid a ransom price to redeem mankind out of the marketplace of slavery to sin (Galatians 3:13; 1 Timothy 2:6). The most important transaction in history took place: Jesus exchanged His innocent life for our sin-stained life, dying the death we deserved that we might, by God's mercy, be spared the judgment we richly deserved. Because God was pleased with Christ in every way, the Cross turned away the wrath of God (Romans 5:9).

Take a moment today to thank God for the Day of the Cross and your redemption from sin.

The heart of the gospel is redemption, and the essence of redemption is the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ.

I found this a very moving hymn to listen to this evening:

That is indeed very beautiful, Pat.  Thank you!  Not only so, but the One Who hears His people's prayers is listening!  He wills to use His people's prayers to accomplish His will.

Prayer is of NO value in itself, but it takes on the value of Christ's Blood when we pray even our simple prayers!

Sometimes we get so "down" and the tears seem to flow for no reason but we can listen to that hymn, especially that version above, and know that somewhere, someone is praying for us.

I so appreciated listening to it this evening.

I've known that song for years, but had not ever heard it online. Thank you so much, Pat, for sharing this blessing with us. Yes, each time I feel I can't go any further, I remember that our Lord Himself sits at the right hand of the Father praying for us. Ohhh, how that helps!

Beautiful, Pat!  And I was really glad they had the words at the bottom!  ;)

How was Paul's birthday celebration?

I posted this morning, jiust before the door slammed shut.  Oh, well, it wasn't important, just chatter.

I finally found my boxes with my glass collection, pretty, bright things I set in the living room window.  I'd been looking for them for over two weeks!  Now they will be there to sparkle in the sun in the morning!

I rested this afternoon, and even watched a good movie on DVD.  That's a big change for me!  :)

Please forgive me for not replying sooner.  Friday, Oct 21st, was my 75th Birthday and I must report that Pat pulled off a total surprise for me. You see, I only thought that my son and his wife and 7 children were coming. However, when nine folks form the church started showing up, I realized what was really happening. Then came a knock on the door, and Don Reid from "Seniors and Friends" showed up all the way from London Ontario Canada. Pat was even more suprised than I was at Don's arrival, and I wish you could have seen her face and reaction of almost total unbelief!!

Pat had arranged for cards to be sent to Peggie's house and she brought a pile of cards about 4 inches high for me to open. When we got settled, the 4 older grand children opened the cards and read them for every one and also read from the Bible the enclosed Bible verses everyone was encouraged to include. After each card was read we sang a favorite Hymn from the dozen or more Hymn books someone had broght along. We had to  end the party around 10:30PM after it took me four breaths to blow out all 75 candles (I guess I lost my wish?). Then after that, all had ice cream and cake!!!

WOW - - -  What a night which I will never forget!    And Thanks Pat and Peggy, and every one else involved!

Also many thanks for all your Birthday greetings and graphics here on Christian Photographers.

Hi everyone.  A very nice Sunday yesterday weather wise and activity wise.  After church we stopped to have a bite of lunch then came home and rested.  At 4 pm we went back to the church for a special meeting that our ministers had called to explain where we are on some contentious church issues.  When we got home we watched a movie, that wasn't very good, and I was so tired I went to bed very early.  Today will be busy also as want to visit a friend who is going into dementia and then have the Monday men's luncheon and then there is a meeting this evening.

Marilyn, your neighbors were fortunate that the fire wasn't worse than just a refrigerator.

Janet, we could loan you some unused seats in our church.  Our church denomination is going through some very tough issues right now and we are losing a lot of members.  Wonderful that your church is growing.

Jeanne, thanks for the devotional for this new week.

Paul, glad you were surprised at the birthday party Pat had planned for you.  Just glad she invited us to be a part of it in a very small way.

Janet

I feel almost as blue as this type today.  And the one and only reason is lack of sleep.  My "J'" night consisted of hours and hours of tossing and turning, getting up twice to read a while in hopes of getting sleepy enough to drop off, then finally a nap of about an hour when it was time to get up this morning.  Oh, my.....Well, I will survive, and hope for a nap this afternoon as I have someplace to go tonight.

Carpenter called and says it will be another day before he gets back out here.  I want to do some touch-up painting in the bedroom.  I have decided not to get upset or anxious over the job--it will get done when it gets done, and fretting won't make it happen sooner.  He is working on the cabinets for laundry and bath now, then the kitchen will be last.

I need to attempt to do some things, even though I don't feel like it.  Happy Monday, and see you later./color]

I seldom get down in the dumps but I am there now.  I feel like I need to get away...anywhere!  Just go and not come back for a few days!  But where?  Do you ever wonder if you disappeared a few days that anyone would notice?  That's me right now.  Maybe I should just hibernate a few days!  Not talk to anyone or see anyone.  Just me, myself and I.  I am all alone but I want it that way for a few days.  This sure isn't me.  I will get better.

It is gloomy today.  The sun was shining for a few minutes but it is gone once again.  It rained during the night but not since I got up.

Dear Janet and Etta Sue. It's a very dull and rainy day here, too.

I feel you both need big hugs and be quietly told you are loved!!  It's O.K. to want to be alone. May our Lord comfort you both.

I think everyone could use a group hug - sending a cyber hug to all.

Good aches from yesterday as I was able to work for almost 4 hours on packing boxes for the troops.  We each take a box and walk to tables piled high & stuff everything in that we choose.  Everyone gets one pair of white socks and I looked for crocs or flip flops, lotions, a book to read, foot powder, a game book, food like dried beef, cookies, toothpaste, brushes, and so many little things & finished off with hard candy to fill within a half inch at the top.  Then, they lay a signed camouflage scarf on top with news of the church &  a Christmas card.  First hour, I sorted magazines and books for female or male.  Luckily, I had just finished a book written by a local doctor who volunteered two tours in Iraq & I wish everyone could read about these brave souls who are wounded so severely and the people who care for them.  Am so impressed with our troops.  It helped me think of needful things.

Don drove to the VA (over half hour drive) and found that someone had not scheduled him for his blood draw.  Another mistake for Friday was averted when he went to check - we have to be there at 9:30 instead of 11 AM.  Thankful that we have this corrected.  I am cleaning & getting everything ready for tomorrow night when we hope a dozen show for quilt club.  Snow is coming & they may not want to drive at night.

Marilyn:  I do not care about CU - only root for the Broncos and the newest quarterback - an avowed Christian.  He is exciting & we are hopeful that  a good guy can get this team going.

Homeless sleeping in the Denver area are about 800, so they say.  Beds are for 200 and they have been squeezing in 300 top capacity.  Snowstorm and bitter cold are arriving.  The homeless are mixed in with the protestors - it really got my attention when the students so seriously said that all their loans should be forgiven.

Pat

Snow in Denver, Carol?  Oh, dear!

What wonderful boxes for the troops.  I know that they will be accepted well by the troops.  Great job you all were doing.

Carol, that is work I could join in doing, wholeheartedly!  I am a BIG supporter of our troops.  May God richly bless each of you who had a part in getting those boxes ready; from the planning to the buying, right on down to the mailing of them.  Good work!

I managed to get a nap this afternoon,  really in hopes I will sleep tonight.

It could be that the upcoming cold months are triggering some sad feelings amongst us.

I'll be thinking of, and praying for, y'all. And, now, I'm taking my headache to bed. :)

:)  Hi to all and it has been a very busy past weekend as I was able to help my son with some of his moving to his new house.  He rented a u-haul and the truck was almost brand new which was great.  We loaded it three times and I helped unload two of the three as my back was getting to ache to much.  They are moving from a town house to a much larger place and they have an in ground pool and lots of garden space so they will be kept busy in the spring and summer.  I did not remember how tiring it is to do work like that.

Well it is getting late and I must get to sleep.  Gods richest blessing's upon you all.

:coffee: is brewing.  Come and share.  It is dark outside and I just love the peaceful beginning of a new day.

This church has a lot of activities and quite a few bible studies - my neighbor is in grief class and she says it has helped her a lot.  We were led to this area and led to this church.

Hi Pat!  What fun you must have had planning the surprise for Paul!  This is late for a snowfall - and not a big storm we think.

Hello Gord!  Moving is hard work, I hope you had a good sleep.

Janet:  You certainly have enough to do as it is right now.  When do you go on your trip?

Good Day to Ruth Ann!

Jeanne Lee

What busy, busy people!  Carol filling boxes for the troops, Janet bringing her house back to normal and editing her book, Gord helping his son move...  You all make me feel almost lazy!!! :D

Looks like we can safely say that summer is over.   :(  We'll have day time temps only near 40 and we'll probably be down into the 20's several nights this week.  Rain expected Thursday and Friday with  possible "mixed precipitation" in the "higher elevations".

:)   Good morning to all and its a good day it is cold but the sun is shining and that is good.  Again it will be a very busy day.  We have to go back up to my sons to sign some papers and stay overnight as my daughter-in-law has to work tonight and it makes it much easier for my son.  :coffee:

I am about to take my wife to Christian  Woman's meeting and she is on the board so she enjoys this very much.  Will drop by later hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless to all.   Gordon and Noreen. :cp:

Larry Hanna

Hi everyone,

Just back from coffee on a beautiful fall morning.  They say we will see it get to 75 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday turned out to be sort of a down day.  I did manage to go to my men's Monday luncheon but was terrible exhausted and missed an evening event I normally attend.  I went to bed about 8 last night after resting most of the afternoon and got up late this morning.  I fear today may be more of the same as am feeling weary.  I may go to a meeting at 11 this morning and that will be it for the day.  Our son had the tube removed from his back yesterday from his surgery and wasn't feeling very good yesterday afternoon.

I have read all of the postings but just don't have the energy to make individual comments this morning.

Etta Sue

I am much better today.  Kitty called me and asked me to meet her at Subway.  I did.  She is such a great listener and really doesn't give advice...just says things that make you think different.

Then I was telling her that our church is stuffing shoe boxes for kids overseas.  And since it has been over 50 years since I have had a kid to buy for, would she go with me.  She did better than that.  We went next door to Dollar General.  She took one shoe box and stuffed it and I stuffed one.  We both chose little girls ages 6-9.  What fun picking out everything from hair brushes to a pink purse and socks to glitter makeup.  There were some things we could not put in...liquids, foods, even chocolate, medicines, etc.  It was fun.

Today is bright and sunny and suppose to get warmer today like Larry said in Georgia.  Today is SAMS so if it stays nice, I may mow when I get home since it is to rain again tomorrow!  The yard doesn't need mowed as much as the leaves need mulched!!

Good morning everyone!

It's so nice to be able to read all your posts here in the Winchester house without going out to McDonald's or the Handy Mart!!!

Jeanne, you sure aren't lazy.  Not sure what I'd do without you on these sites getting rid of spammers and doing all the other things you do daily on both Seniors and Friends and here.  Thanks so much

Hi to Gord, Carol, Larry and Etta Sue too today.

We're just waiting for a phone call to see if we're going to visit Paul's brother and his wife.  She's under the weather and not feeling well.

Janet

Good morning!  The sun is shining brightly and temp supposed to get to high 70s today, so we are getting a reprieve from the cold.  The guys are back working on the house YES!!  and things are looking up!  I wasn't really having the blues the other day, just exhaused from lack of sleep.  I slept last night, so am up and at 'em this morning.  And that's a good thing because now they are tearing out the laundry room and adjoining bathroom.  We had unloaded all those cabinets earlier--but now he says he will be getting to the kitchen in about a week, so lots more stuff to move, for sure!

Gord, moving is about the hardest work one can do.  One thing worse is plumbing on an older house!  ;)  I LOVE Christian Women's club; but unfortunately, ours here no longer meets, guess you could say it folded up, and I miss it so much.  What a great time to get to know our sisters in Christ from other churches than the one we attend.

Etta Sue, Samaritan's Purse does such wonderful work.  My friend over at Dodge works with a group in Fowler all year long collecting stuff, and last year they packed over 5000 boxes, put them in a truck and drove them to the collection site in Denver!  Made lots of kids happy!  :)

Larry, prayers go up for you today.  I appreciate that you know your limits and take care of yourself.  We need you around here.

Hello, Jeanne!  About the time I hit post yesterday, I realized I had spelled your name Jeanie, which is how my sister's name is spelled.  Sorry.  And you do a lot around here, even if you didn't, we need your encouragement!  Bless you!

Carol, how I would love to drop by and have a cup of whatever and a little visit with you. You're always doing interesting stuff.

Hi, Judy!  Hi, Ruth Ann!  Hi, Pat!

My goodness, but you folks sure know how to perk someone up!  Thanks, Pat and Janet, for your kind comments.

Janet, I didn't even notice how you spelled my name.  It's usually pronounced Jeannie, so it makes sense to spell it that way.   ;)

Larry, I'm glad you recognize when you need to cut back on some of your activities.  Like Janet said, we need you around here.   ;)
