JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Morning Devotional...

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised.
Psalm 113:3

As the sun, from our perspective, dips below the horizon, we lay our praise aside and go to sleep.

But our sunset is other Christians' sunrise and they take up the praising of the Lord's name. In fact the sun never sets, and God's people form an endless overlapping chorus to our Saviour.

If you want to sing your part today, the Psalms provide wonderful lyrics for your songs of praise.
                                                                    --J. B. N., Jr.

When earth has reached its final groan,
The sea its last, long sigh,
Then everything as one shall sing
His praise eternally.

Thank-you Pat.  That is again an apt devotional. Yes the sun is shining here and hopefully you are still asleep in your bed.....Hopefully!  Miracles do happen. Yes even our Pat can sleep, sometimes!

I have much to do this day but I shall come in and see you all later.

Bless you all.
Jenny.

My Dear Meika,

You now have a story to tell. Go tell it lass and take these words with you:-

Joshua Chapter 1 Verse 9

LOL

Iain

'And Moses said unto the people, fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today, ye shall see them again no more for ever.'

Exodus Chapter 14 Verse 13

Severe gales have battered our shores in the last couple of days. Everything in our garden is colourless and flat, drafts appear from all corners and outside even the seagulls are grounded.

Today it has eased slightly but yesterday it was very difficult standing outside. The stormy winds forcing movement in order to stay balanced.

The Christian is no stranger to storms whether within our without. In this chapter the children of Israel, having followed Moses out of the depression of Egypt now find themselves in real trouble.

The swollen Red Sea is before them and their greatest enemy is closing in from the rear with chariots.

What has God done? We followed His commands to the letter, we followed His cloud and now we are going to be slaughtered by the hand of our enemy in the middle of nowhere!

It is easy for us to view the 'big picture' as we know the outcome and we know that this situation was ordained by God as a platform for His glory and a display of such power that it would be talked about for the generations to come.

It is easy to imagine the screams and cries of panic. Easy to see why they turned on Moses and blamed him for the mess in which they found themselves. Easy to think of them taking the easy option and heading back to bondage in Egypt. Fear had them all in its grasp.

If only we could run away from our troubles. If only their was a safe haven for us to go to. Are the thoughts of today much different from the time of Moses? Have certain providences led us into a corner. Hemmed in with no way of escape?

It may be debt, it may be a loss of confidence, it may be sickness, it may be wayward children, it may be a change of home and location, it may be a fork in the road with two ways and we know not which we to take, it may be a touch of depression, it may be the loss of a loved one or even an unfaithful partner.

For one reason or another our peace has been taken from us and fear has replaced it. We find ourselves at wit's end corner not knowing which way to turn. It has all happened so quickly, almost without us knowing about it.

The way ahead does not bear thinking about. In fact we dare not face it. We would rather crawl back under our covers than think about what tomorrow might bring.

In our panic we try and work out a way of escape. What little strength we have left if soon lost in nervous energy. Exhaustion is now our companion along with doubt, unbelief and the vision comprising of different shades of grey.

What does God want us to do? His message is simple – 'Stand still!'

Mr Spurgeon writes the following:-

'Despair whispers, 'Lie down and die, give it all up.' But God would have us put on a cheerful courage, and even in our worst times, rejoice in His love and faithfulness.'

'Cowardice says, 'Retreat; go back to the worldling's way of action; you cannot play the Christian's part; it is too difficult. Relinquish your principles.'

'But, however much Satan may urge this course upon you, you cannot follow it, if you are a child of God. His divine fiat has bid you go from strength to strength, and so thou shalt, and neither death nor hell shall turn thee from thy course.

What if for a while you are called to stand still. Yet this is but to renew your strength for greater advance in due time.'

'Precipitancy cries, 'Do something; stir yourself; to stand still and wait is sheer idleness.' 'We must be doing something at once – we must do it, so we think – instead of looking to the Lord, who will not only do something, but will do everything.'

Presumption boasts, 'If the sea be before you, march into it, and expect a miracle.' Bur faith listens neither to presumption, nor to despair, nor to cowardice, nor to precipitancy, but hears God say, 'Stand still,' and immovable as a rock it stands.

'Stand still' – 'Keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action, expecting further orders, cheerfully and patiently awaiting the directing voice; and it will not be long before God shall say to you, as distinctly as Moses said to the people of Israel, 'Go forward.'

Faith no matter how weak will eagerly take God at His Word. It will hear the voice of God speaking to my fearful soul these strengthening words, 'Fear ye not.' Hope will also be encouraged through the Lord uttering the following :- 'Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.' Let us take God at His Word now and let Him display His glory in our lives.

LOL

The sun rises!

THE Son has risen indeed!  Thanks be to God our Father for His Son, Jesus Christ. and for His sacrifice so that we sinners may live with Him eternally.

Sometimes I just forget to thank Him over and over for all His great mercies.

What a friend I have in Jesus.   :) and I thank Him for my sisters and brothers here on CP!

Ria, what is greengrocer?  Is it where you buy fresh veggies and fruits?  We have something here called the Farmer's Market where we can buy these things.  Ours is rather big (for this area), has a nursery for plants, trees, etc., lots of vendors with the fresh vegetables and fruits,  and is open 6 days a week.

May each of you have a blessed day!

Papa John

Good morning.  I hope you will all have a good day.  We will miss Mieka here and hope she will be able to return soon.

A passage which caught my attention this morning is:

Matt 5:43-48
43   "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44   But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45   that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
46   If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47   And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
48   Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
(NIV)

When I read this it gives me something to think about

--- Papa John    ;D          <:))))><<

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Good Morning Everyone!

It's a drizzly day here in Guelph.  And I haven't got my daffodils planted.  Anyone want to come and help?  HAHAHA!

I must deliver some Avon brochures today as well as I paid for them and mustn't let the $$$ go down the drain.

I hope that Mieka has a moment to come in and read all of the nice messages to her.  I hope that on the top of all of your little Prayer Lists that we can add Mieka's name so that she will be conscious of the Lord's lovely hands of love guiding her as she travels to Tibet.

I hope that Vivian had a wonderful Birthday supper last night, Lee.  What a lovely few days she had.  Hey, Lee!  Want a piece of cake?  HAHAHA!

Well, I'm off to figure out what I'm going to do about these Avon books...

I'll be back later.

Love ya'll!

I really slept well last night and just a bit longer than usual.  It is cool and dark now and we do keep the  window open for fresh air - but not enough for it to snow inside!

I didn't know Mieka was going to Tibet.  Someone wrote China in a previous post.

Hi everyone.  I stayed at coffee an extra 20 minutes this morning as didn't have anything pressing here at home and we were having a nice time chatting.  I have choir practice this evening but nothing else on my schedule today.  Sure I will think of something to keep busy as can always do that on the computer.

Marilyn, I saw your note about the screen settings resulting in font that is too small.  Just click on the "Start" button, then "My Computer" and over on the left side, click on "Change a Setting", then click on "Display" and then click on "Settings".  There you will see a slider bar and you can experiment by reducing the resolution until the print is larger.  The higher the resolution the smaller the print will be.  Of course, on a browser page you can also increase the size of the font usually in the "view" menu.  Hope this helps.  One other thing to know on Windows XP is that when you click on "My Computer" you see a list of actions on the left, if you click on the "folder" icon on the Menu line it will give you a file mangement view of your computer like you are used to seeing in Windows 98.

Pat, I am sure that temporary bridge must feel like a mountain in your mouth.  That sounded like a nightmare trip back home.  Just glad you didn't have snow to contend with as well.

Iain, another fine devotional.  Standing still is so difficult for us, particularly men, as we always want to find a solution to any problem.

This is indeed a sad day for us here on CP knowing that it is Mieka's last day with us for awhile.  I wrote her a message yesterday to assure her we wouldn't forget her and will continue to keep her in our prayers.

Ria, your greengrocer sounds like the small fruit stands we have operate around here during the spring, summer and fall.  Often they are just set up under a tent and they bring fresh vegetables and fruits in to sell everyday.  I also have a friend who loves to garden and always sells his produce at a little place under a big tree in front of the house he used to live in.  Usually he just leaves a bucket out for people to put in their money with a sign posted on the tree as to the cost of the items.  Always a good buy and the produce is exceptional.  Unfortunately we had so much rain this year that he didn't have a very successful garden.

Karmat, tell TAS that I liked his message.  :D :D

Pat

Greengrocers...

When I lived in Ireland, there was only one supermarket in the whole of the country and that was Supermac on the other side of Belfast!  It was opened while we were living there.  Now, remember that this was back in the early 1960's so it was similar in most areas of the U.K.

People just loved to go to the Butcher Shop for their meat, to the Greengrocer for their veggies, etc.  We had the Co-op in Belfast and some little mini supermarket where other household items could be purchased.

Well, the day I got off the boat from Canada, I was at my sister-in-law's home and she made the comment, "Oh, I have to go out and get some potatoes!"  I thought to myself that this would be a good first lesson in buying in Ireland for me so I volunteered as the little shop was just down the road.

She gave me the money and off I went to the Greengrocer's shop.

There was a lineup at the door as this was Saturday morning and everyone was out getting their weekend supplies so I joined the lineup.  By the time I reached the corner and was being served, I just said, "I'd like some potatoes please".  The friendly fellow behind the counter said, "Yes, love and how many stones would you like?"

I quickly replied, "Oh, my sister-in-law didn't mention any stones so I'll just get potatoes!"

With that, some lady way back in the lineup shoulted, "You American??" and I said, "No, Canadian" and they all agreed...  "Just get half a stone, love!"

Well, I'll never forget my first trip to the Greengrocer's.

(Of course, I quickly learned that "stones" was their method of weighing and a stone was 14 pounds so I went home with 7 lb. of spuds)

Amazing Love
(Click to hear music)

My Lord what love is this?
That paid so dearly
That I, the guilty one, may go free.

Chorus:
Amazing love, oh what sacrifice
The Son of God, given for me
My debt He paid, and my death He died
That I, might live.
That I, might live.

And so, they watched Him die
Despised and rejected
But oh, the blood He shed, flowed for me.

And now, this love of Christ
Will flow, like rivers
Come wash, your guilt away,
And live again.

I am going to try to download my camera after I get home from work today. Forgot to tell you that.

By the way Larry my sound isn't working. And I have emailed Dell support to find out why. I have connected the speakers according to the directions but they aren't producing any sound.

I apologize to everyone hre for not writing more to y-all, I hope you understand my excitement over the computer and trying to get it all working. I am truly sorry.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

I have had my swim and my breakfast, read today's posts, and now I need to get busy.  I have some loose ends that need tying up here.

I just want to  :'( when I think of dear Mieka leaving us, but I know God loves her even more than we do or can, and that He will keep her safe in His arms of love.

Marilyn, I would be lost, trying to set up a new computer on my own!  My grandson set mine up for me, and helps me with it on those too rare occasions when he gets to come for a visit.  Good luck getting everything figured out, and I'm sure you appreciate Larry's help.

Papa John, Iain, and Pat, thanks for the words of wisdom from the Book today.  We all need those.

I am off to get some stuff done, be back later!

4 p.m. England.

Pat It is not correct here to use "stones" or pounds, ounces etc., Now we are in Europe it is against the law and everything is in grammes or kilos.  If a trader uses the old weights he can be take to court.  This has happened a few times recently.  Stupid!

I love greengrocers shops., especially at Christmas time with all the tangerines, dates, apples, and oranges and sprouts all laid out with other goodies including poinsettas and fir trees also on sale.
My local greengrocer is delivering to me at the moment.  I just phone him and he takes my order and it is delivered the same day.  He employs a full time driver now.

Etta Sue             I have been out there again this afternoon. sweeping away more leaves from the entry and front path.  Is it worth it?  Oh well it is good exercise for me. I do wrap up warm Pat, before you tell me.

I am going to do some more sewing tonight.  I might just see if there is anything good on television, that silver grey box in the corner.  We cancelled Sky because I spend so much time on here that it was a waste of money.

I listened to a good play on the radio with my lunch.  It was about Sir Walter Raleigh's Trial.  Very, very sad.  He brought us tea and potatoes didn't he?....Who said "tea".  Yes time for a cuppa.....
.
That was a nice chat Marilyn....I am Windows XP too.

Bye for now
