Oldiesmann: I'm not aware of any Jenny. Not sure why activity has died down on this site so much though 2023-06-12, 00:06:36

JennyW: Also, does anyone know other photo sharing sites that are Christian? 2023-05-16, 08:47:03

JennyW: Hello Everyone! I really miss activity on this site. I've been discouraged by photography sites where you have to sort through so much explicit content in order to see photos that truly glorify God. I'd love to see this site pick up again. 2023-05-16, 08:46:36

Janet: Carol, I am just reading this.  So sorry for your loss, glad your beloved Don knew the Lord and you have the assurance of his eternity  and that you WILL see him again.  Much love to you.  Janet 2022-06-18, 08:49:36

Lee,
Margit and I both suffered aching necks, until we tried buckwheat pillows, now we wouldn't be without them,,, oh boy  this sounds just like an oldtime advert!
But seriously they are great. :)

BTW, in the church fraternity at large, Fundamentalists feel that the Evangelicals are selling out  their beliefs for the sake of "Ecumenicalism," a very bad word! lol. ;)

Eddie, always remember that when Moses killed the Egyptian he was 40 yrs old, he did very little for the next 40 yrs, then came the burning bush, God called him to work, so his ministery didn't actually begin at all until he was 80 yrs young, the rest of the time was just preparation for the great task, " let My people go." ;)

NARDS:  Very interesting definitions.....I'm gonna have to change what I call myself.

Since I became a christian, I have referred myself as being a fundamentalist...because BC (before Christ) I belonged to a very liberal church.

When I reversed my direction, I thought that now instead of being a liberal, I was a fundamentalist.

I realize now that I am really an evangelistism (or whatever the correct word is)

I believe in becoming involved w/other evangelistic churches.  I don't believe that my denomination is the only true church.

My feeling is that Heaven contains a lot of people that others (myself included) twas thought would not qualify for entrance.

And I am sure that there are souls in Heaven that will be surprised to see me and others who do not fit "their profile of a Christian."

But, then if those in heaven know everything (and they do)...they will know that we are coming.

Chris, I've never heard that hymn before!  It's lovely too and what great words!

Thanks!  I think I might have it in one of Jack's old hymn books though.  I think he has an old Alexander's Hymn somewhere and it seems that this fellow wrote several hymns for that book.

Thanks again.

I don't know where I would fit, either, Karma.  The important thing, so far as I'm concerned, is not denomination or title - it's the fact that Jesus died for me and rose again to open the portals of Heaven so that I can someday join Him.  And the fact that all my sins are covered by His blood and are known no more.

Pat, there is one thing I like about hymns,
there are usually plenty of verses, so that you don't need to sing them over and over!
Hahaaaaaaaa :)
ps, We've just listened to Pastor Adrian Rogers preach on Matthew 24, the end times, what a great preacher he is!
I always make copious notes while listening, and I dont do that with many, lol.

That's a great point, Jeanne.  One thing to keep in mind is that these are typically "ecclesiastical" titles, meaning that they apply to the church, rather than the individual.  If you find yourself in disagreement with the direction and teaching of your church, it is normally likely that you will move on to one more in line with your beliefs.  Normally, Evangelicals wouldn't frequent Fundamentalist churches, even if they didn't understand the difference.  And vice versa.

Denomination is indeed not important, but sometimes being challenged to define what we believe can make us "dig a little deeper" and wind up in better fellowship with God as a result.

It can also leave us less confused when the media (religious OR secular) talk about the "Fundamentalists" versus the "Evangelicals" at the Southern Baptist Convention, or wherever the battleground may be on a given day.

It really is all about Jesus and telling your neighbor about Him...  (Just saying that is mildly Evangelical in nature, though.  Most true Evangelicals don't dwell on the difference in the two, while Fundamentalists are usually fairly quick to bring it up.)

We must remember that the word "Evangel" means "good news," in other words,, the Gospel, hence evangelists, those who bring the  good news,  the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I just want to clear up what some may have misunderstood - I am NOT talking about evangelists or evangelism.  I am talking about Evangelicals.  It's a completely different issue.  Evangelism is a calling, a ministry.  Evangelicalism is a church type - not a denomination, and most churches don't put it on their sign.  Evangelists may be Fundamentalists, or they may be Evangelicals.  Please don't confuse the two, and please don't accuse me of attacking evangelists.

I definitely don't want anyone to think that Fundamentalists are not in favor of evangelism.  Quite the opposite.  Many are huge supporters of missions and other evangelistic efforts.  They simply do not join with other denominations in doing so, most of the time.

The primary difference is Fundamentalists and Evangelicals is their approach to doctrinal differences.  Fundamentalists will say "This is what's right, and to be right, we need to agree with it.  We can't work together until we do."  Evangelicals will say "I believe this, you believe that.  OK, now how can we work together without stepping on each other's toes?"

Often, Fundamentalists and Evangelicals have exactly the same doctrine.  They simply don't agree on how to deal with those who have different doctrine.

And let's be clear - I personally have NO doubt that both Fundamentalists AND Evangelicals are born-again Christians, as long as they are born-again Christians.

See, I told y'all it was a can of worms... :)  I'm not here to argue the points, I'm only trying to explain the differences.  Hope that makes sense.

Ria - We're very glad to take you as you are, sweetie.  We love you dearly, whatever church you call yours.

That goes for everybody else, too.
I survived open heart surgery.... :)

Nards: Thank you very much for your definitions and  what you have written on the differences. I don't know what to call myself. I agree that there are many churchs with different doctrines. These doctrines are interpeted in different ways by each one. The scriptures to back each docrtine and interpeted the way they want to read it.

I believe that if we have confessed Jesus Christ as our Savior, and repented of our sins , accepted Jesus into our hearts, and believe that He is who He says He is, then the denomination make no difference.

I also belive that every church should preach/teach the Word of God, Biblical truths.

I am sure there will be many surprised when we reach heaven to see those that we thought would never make it.

I guess I am naive...I am going to label myself a Christian!!!  Anything else would make me feel above someone else and I certainly am not.

I was thinking EXACT.  Does people know Greek and Hebrew that are Fundamentalists?

This is too deep for me.  I like to simplify things.  I am thankful for the gift God gave me in Christ, the forgiveness of my sins, the promise of everlasting life, the promise He will be with me each day, the assurance that I am His child and He is my Father.  That's enough for me.

I may not be here in the morning.  I am going to Jerry's and then to the southside of Indy to meet a SrNetter from Minnesota that has been visiting her son at Columbus, Indiana.  I have met her before but Jerry hasn't.

Sonifo

hmmm...interesting discussion.

I don't know what I am either.

That is ok.  I am sure what ever I am, God loves me anyway.  ;D

Thanks, Nards for all that info.  I am going to save it.

busy day for us.

Hope you all are having fun today.

Howdy Nards........

May I disagree with you on one particular point (Could be more ;)).

True "Fundamentalism" really started with Genesis and carried through to Revelation.  Belief in ALL of God's Word as 100% truth IS "Fundamentalism (2nd Timothy 3:16).  Man in his attempt to bring confusion has introduced finger pointing and degredation directed at "Fundamentalism."  In fact, the World Council of Churches has made "Fundamentalim" a dirty word.  Yep, I agree with you 100%, "Evangelism" and "Evangelical" are positively not the same.

If we should find a brother in Biblical error we must correct him in love WITH the Word only, and not of man.  Either they accept God's written Word (Fundamentalism), or they reject it.

Nita

Very interesting, Nards.  And what I find delightfully interesting is most saying they don't know what they are. haha   I think that's the best place to be.  I simply belong to Jesus.   I think I'm glad I was saved outside of church,  met Jesus and got to know Him before I was in church.  Like others, I guess I'm a little bit of all....and don't call myself either.

I'm with you, Etta Sue.  Child like faith in a loving Father, who can work out all the details. :)

You've really been studying, huh, Nard?  It's good to find out that you don't know who you are, outside of Christ's. lol

love to all.

Sue

Just popped in to catch up on the reading and now am off and running again.  Will read again tomorrow.

Night all.

Lee Kirkwood

Sonja...........

Sure you do.  If you believe in all of God's Word as (2 Timothy 3:16) has said, then you have a "Fundamental," (and might I add) a sound belief in His truths.  All "Born Again" Christians should have this belief in God's Word.  If you spread the Gospels of God's Word to the lost as one of God's messengers, then you are evangelizing.  The word evangelical has taken on a new meaning within the past 60 years.  If you look-up evangelical in Webster you will find evangelical and evangelism are akin to one another.  This subject is worthy of discussion for discussion sake, but certainly not one to bring concern.

Lee Kirkwood

Etta Sue.........

I love your post.  If we can all agree with you and say (When asked what we are)..."I'm a Christian."  That covers it all.

Mullet

Hello everyone!!!!! How are you all doing today?

Nita did you sign Angel up to CP yet?

I'm a fundagelical.  Or perhaps a Evanmentalist.  Or maybe, maybe, maybe.

Ahh.  This discussion has made me understand some people near and dear to me a lot better.  There are some people who are very clearly one or the other.

Promised Nards I wouldn't be on here long (still have supper dishes to clean and Mary Kay calls to make), so, in the words of the Terminator, "I'll be back."

A very interesting discussion today.  I grew up and was saved by grace in the Baptist Church but since moving to a new location the church has changed its name.

Pat again thanks for all of your hard work and the lovely humns as well.
