Morning Devotional

John 16:27. "For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God."

The word "if" is only a two-letter word, but a more important word doesn't exist in the English language.  The grammarians tell us that it expresses condition - if this, then that.  In our Lord's words before us, if you love Him and if you believe He came forth from God, then  God Himself loves you.  Jesus our Lord, the Man Christ Jesus, is telling us that the almighty Lord God of the universe, in a very particular way, LOVES YOU if you love the Son!  Can it truly be?  Does the holy Creator of all take a special interest in ME?  If the conditional statement is satisfied, then it is indeed true - that unimagineable, wonderful, incomparable possibility is actually TRUE for me!

Oh dear one!  Oh you who read and understand these words - be SURE you satisfy the conditions!!!

And Can it Be That I Should Gain[/u]
(Click to hear music]

Suddenly there was a great earthquake,
so that the foundations of the prison were shaken;
and immediately all the doors were opened
and everyone's chains were loosed.
Acts 19:26

Words: Charles Wesley, Psalms and Hymns, 1738.
Music: "Sagina," Thomas Campbell, 1835

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior's blood!
Died He for me who caused His pain!
For me who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

'Tis mystery all: th' Immortal dies!
Who can explore His strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father's throne above
(so free, so infinite His grace!),
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race.
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

I will post this in our prayer folder, but - please remember to pray for all our brothers/sisters, others in New Orleans, which is being devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Nita

Al, I'm praying.  I've been watching the news all day.  It doesn't look good at all.   There will be lots of devastation, as you said.

Marilyn

I too have been praying for those in our southern states. Not just Louisana but also in Mississippi and Alabama and the Florida panhandle.

Be back in a few.

Gotta go.  Taking the kids to storytime, then to work for me. :(  Maybe just for a few more months -- I hope.

I hope each of you haas a remarkable, tremendously, awesome, God-filled, Jesus-blessed day. :)

Hi everyone.  This is indeed a bleak day for America as this terrible storm comes on land.  I think some of these reporters are out of their mind to be out in the elements.

I have to have a test done back at the hospital in downtown Atlanta this afternoon.  It is a non-invasive test but needed before I have the Implantable device put in.  This evening Pat and I have been invited to go with our friends to the First Baptist church for an indoor picnic with bluegrass music that is being sponsored for their senior ministry.  We are looking forward to it.

Liz, glad to hear your efforts were successful and also that your granddaughter will be able to take a couple of classes.  It looks like she has a major talent.

Thanks for the morning devotional.
I am hanging on to
"and immediately all the doors were opened
and everyone's chains were loosed."
I have been struggling with a health condition
for some time.
Just yesterday my boyfriends mom said she has been
prying for me and that she is going to believe with me that
God will set me free. This was very humbling.
So I need to believe as well. This verse this morning is giving me another
promise to take hold of.
Thanks a ton!

Papa John

Good Monday morning.

I never got in here yesterday.  It seems like it was never convenient.  We did have a wonderful day of worship though.

We moved into our new Bible School addition.  New Bible classes were started and it was an exciting day.  Our Sunday School attendance was over 900 and we had over 1,200 in attendance for worship.  Last night we had a report on our Summer camps.  We had two weeks of camp, one for the younger ones and another for the older group.

Yes, we are praying for the people in New Orleans and that coastal area being hit by Katrina as I am writing.  It looks like New Orleans may not have been hit as directly as they feared it would.  It is a very dangerous hurricane though and we don't know yet how bad it will be.

Just as God was often a shelter from the storm for Israel in Old Testament times so he is for us today.

Isaiah  4:5-6
5   Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy.
6   It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.  (NIV)

Papa John          <;D)))><<

Eph 2:8-9  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.(NIV)

Good Morning Everyone!

I've been rivited to my TV watching the hurricane news and praying for these folks.    I have some errands to run today and a meeting to attend tonight so I'll be scarce on here.

Have fun with the Shoutbox, folks!  It's seen at the top of every page and that's neat!  Just don't post while you're in the middle of posting a message in here or you'll lose it!  >:(

Great to see you Papa John!  Sounds like a new addition in your church building.  Lovely!  I appreciate your scripture verses today too.

Glad the sun is shining for you, Marilyn.  Have fun with the grandkids!  I love it when mine are here.

Geri-Jean, thanks for sharing about your health problem.  We'll pray along with your boyfriend's mother too!  God bless you.

Larry,
I'll be thinking of you this afternoon as you drive to Atlanta.  Glad it's not invasive.  Sounds like a nice evening you'll be having tonight too.   I agree about the reporters.  I sure wouldn't be in their place in that horrendous weather.

Thanks so much, Al for the devotional today.  It's meant a lot to my heart.

Yes, continuing to pray for our friends in the southern states.  What a time they are having!

Well, I must go and do my errands.

I'll be back though.

Give of Your Best to the Master
(Click to hear music)

Author:  Howard B. Grose, 1851-1939
Musician:  Charlotte A. Barnard, 1830-1869

Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every
heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof,
even the hallowed part thereof out of it.
Numbers 18:29

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth.
Throw your soul's fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example,
Dauntless was He, young and brave.
Give Him your loyal devotion;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain

Give of your best to the Master;
Give of the strength of your youth.
Clad in salvation's full armor,
Join in the battle for truth.

Give of your best to the Master;
Give Him first place in your heart.
Give Him first place in your service;
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you will be given;
God His beloved Son gave.
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain

Naught else is worthy His love.
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur,
You from sin's ruin to save.
Give Him your heart's adoration;
Give Him the best that you have.

Refrain

An enjoyable but wet weekend at the trailer.  Had a branch from a dead tree fall on the roof of the car and luckily no damage was done.  Now must get busy and do some housework and bill-paying.

Etta Sue

It looks like I am the only one that hasn't been watching the hurricane in New Orleans.  Remember I have TiVo so I didn't watch it last evening.  I very seldom turn on the TV in the morning.  But I have CNN on right now.  Terrible.  Looking at the windows blown out of the high rise.

Today I go to the dentist to get my permanent crown.  Ivalou is going with me and we will do some shopping.

Pat -- I wish.  Maybe in a few months, when I get my Mary Kay business up and running stronger. :)

Pat

Hi Sue...   That was a close call with the tree!  Glad there was no damage.

Well, Karma, guess you just have to do what you have to do!  Quit work or do Mary Kay!  I'm about to maybe give up Avon.

Love your little graphics, Etta Sue!  Keep them up!  Yes it's been pretty bad for the folks in those states affected by this hurricane.  Wow!  What a lot of water.

Here in SA me and Mari are also praying for the folks in New Orleans.

Is there anyone of our members living in that area?

Thanks for the devotional.

Good Afternoon from Southern Ontario.  We have sun and cloud but it is very still and just a few minutes ago we had a small shower now the sun is back out.

It has been a very lazy day so far but I have not been sleeping well so that will explain it all.
Now I will go and finish a sewing project along with the other daily jobs that have not been done.

Pat:  How long have you been selling Avon?

Karma:  How long have you been selling Mary Kay?  It is my preferred line of skin care

Sarah:  With all the studying it is a wonder you have time to check in. Keep up the good work.

Papa John:  I look forward to your daily entries.

Hello Franz in SA!!  And welcome to Christian Photographers!  I don't know if we have other members in your area or not, perhaps Pat can answer that for you.

I was away all day yesterday, well, away from the house, not away very far---first Sunday school and church, then the art show all afternoon, then church again, and I was really tired when I got home.

Our art show was well attended, and some had good sales.  I won "People's Choice" on my painting of the Nativity!   ;D ;D  So that pleased me.  (There is a photo of it in Creations with a Brush, if you haven't seen it.)

By popular demand, the show is being left up until Sept. 16.  A couple of the artists had other shows coming up soon, so they took their things out, which left more space for the rest of us to fill.  This morning was spent moving and re-hanging my paintings.  I had already gone and had a workout, and I think that qualified as another one!  But it looks much nicer, and my paintings can be seen to much better advantage in the new arrangement.

Beth, sorry I wasn't in yesterday to wish you a Happy Birthday, but you know I was thinking of you.  John, thanks for coming in and giving us updates! :)

JudyMc, I think only Beth or John can answer your question about wedding bells!

Hi Sarah!  Good to see you popping in and posting!

Oh, how I hope to have my own computer again soon! :-\

I think that's about all I have to say today.  I'm also praying for our Southern neighbors in Katrina's way.
My book Rising Above available at JanetDamon.com

Janet:   About your computer being down, we have a couple of family members who seem to have computer problems from time to time and when that happens they will phone us just because they miss the contact. Another will call myself or Sue looking for phone instructions. Sue is a wonderful help in that area.

Nice devotional, Pastor Al.  I am listening to Pat's hymn at the moment...

I guess we are all praying for people who are in the path of Katrina.  It is interesting to note how many of the officials are asking for prayer.  Possibly God will be using this to reach  people in this terrible time.  My prayer is that both souls and lives will be saved and that people's hearts will be changed.

We had a nice downpour a few minutes ago.  I had just returned from a lovely walk and was spared getting soaked.  Weather is much cooler today and no complaints as we need the rain.

Nice to see you Sarah and also Franz.  Would love to hear more about your part of the world, Franz.  Do come and post often.  Hope all goes well in school, Sarah.  What a busy Gal!

Etta Sue, whatever is TiVo????  Is that some sort of satellite TV?

Larry, something went wrong with the course and Amanda has to be on the waiting list again.  Not quite sure what the problem was.....what a complex world we have today.  Lucky you & Pat, getting to hear Bluegrass Music.  I love the way they play religious music and it is such a wonderful sound.

Have to go and do laundry now.  Here is a little smile....maybe ???

An Australian ministry, announces, "Now available! Revised Gospel Hymns for today's generation of modern churchgoers. Sing old favorites without guilt, conviction or discomfort. Hundreds of your old favorites made comfortable." Some of the titles include: "Amazing Grace, How Interesting the Sound," "Praise God from Whom All Affirmations Flow" and "I Surrender Some."

Hmmm!   :-\

Pleasant Day and God Bless.
